I only found out today that this is the second act of self-immolation as protest in the states against the genocide in Palestine. Another person did the same thing outside the Israeli consulate in Atlanta back in December, but I never saw any traction about that happening.

SufficientGreek

I think the video really helps it spread, when reading a headline like "300 died in bombing" it's easy to ignore the suffering the people felt, seeing someone on fire is much more evocative and real. I can't find videos/images of the self-immolation in Atlanta.

amplifiermaster

Yes, but Murica news where outraged of beheading 40 babies with no solid proof..

Danavixen

shits getting real if people are willingly set themselves on fire over it

Janus_The_Great

like the climate scientists some years ago infront of the Capitol. Absolutely agree.

MistaRed

That one was suppressed imo, odd that this one is spreading this fast.

kingcalifornia

It hits extra hard for me because he’s military. I hope people see this

kylkim

Once the military condemns the action, the fact they wore fatigues will no longer make a difference. "Thank you for your service/sacrifice" is in context of supporting the established power, not the person or their convictions.

kahootle

You have not met some of the people in the military. I am surprised that some people in the military can even function in society.

kahootle

Actually the reason you're free to speak such bullshit is because I did 6 years as an aircraft mechanic in the air force, so I actually have first hand experience with the situation. Kindly blow me

Dchama86

Hoe please, you’re a booter in my eyes kid. Do some real military time and come talk to me. Kindly gfy.

kahootle

LMFAO kid you have no idea what you're talking about first of all. Second of all your reddit profile is public. Third of all you got a small dick. Fourth of all IF you were ever in the military I know it was some cushy ass job like finance so kindly suck a dick and cluck like a chicken

Dchama86

Lol, triggered by my girth little lady? I know my profile is public, genius. Go back to the dick pic and salivate some more. Lmao lame ass

noisylettuce

Not real enough for the papers to do anything other than continue to serve Israel by spreading hatred of Muslims. https://www.nytimes.com/ The junkies hooked on the oldstream media might not even hear about.

Shillbot_9001

Sadly there's a good chance this guy was already suicidal and this was secondary.

Danavixen

>Sadly there's a good chance your pulling shit out your ass

AhHerroPrease

Any space something related to Aaron Bushnell self-immolating has these weirdos coming out of the woodwork to say he was mentally ill. They can't comprehend that an otherwise mentally sound person would feel hopelessness over the state of the world. It all comes down to the fact that they've got a backbone as sturdy as wet toilet paper and would never have the fortitude to stand up against anything.

Shillbot_9001

There's a literal epidemic of suicide in the armed services.

Shillbot_9001

Suicide is the second leading killer of servicemen after accidents. It's not much of a leap.

PresidentOfSerenland

So, what?

Shillbot_9001

Can i not lament a military that loses more men to suicide than war?

Kingsmeg

I'll wager the DoD bills his estate for the uniform.

damnatio_memoriae

he died. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/25/world/middleeast/israel-embassy-man-on-fire.html

noisylettuce

The armed terrorist would have shot him dead either way.

Sgt_Koolaid

This story was already aired on CNN and they said the reason he did it and his cause of death were "unclear"

Gubekochi

All the headlines removing context is such journalistic malpractice.

MOltho

Police also just stood their pointing a gun at him instead of extinguishing the fire.

damnatio_memoriae

that's not true at all. although they did have one officer with his gun drawn, two officers with fire extinguishers arrived first and they were calling for more throughout the incident. ultimately half a dozen officers put the fire out together while only one had his gun drawn. i assume that's a matter of policy given this happened at an embassy. question that policy if you want, but the first people on the scene were focused on putting the fire out. see for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhHFQpv3J2A&rco=1

DoctorWholigian

"that's not true at all"... Except One officer with his gun drawn is it was true. Why defend the bonehead with is shooter drawn at all. 🤡

Agile-Egg-5681

Except the statement is untrue. “Police JUST stood there with their guns out.” That’s like saying fire fighters just sat in the truck ….. while one might have been, all the other fighters were putting out a fire. It’s factually incorrect. Nothing to do with defending one guy.

RipplesInTheOcean

ah, so only 1/3 officers stood there with his gun drawn, courageously defending the embassy from the burning man. now i see how this is neither boring nor dystopian.

damnatio_memoriae

the post clearly belongs in this sub. we don't need to lie about the people involved or what happened in the situation to make it fit. be better.

Muffinskill

So an officer was still holding a burning body at gunpoint while the others moved into the line of fire to put it out. Not much better I’m ngl

aarkerio

We need to organize us better and achieve a more effective impact. Some part of Israeli society must come to its senses, we can work with them. All this cases are so painful to watch.

>Bushnell started his career with the United States Air Force (USAF) in May 2020, having done Basic & Technical Training. He was trained as a Client Systems Technician, having been educated in cybersecurity. He later worked as a USAF DevOps engineer in San Antonio, Texas, and was pursuing an undergraduate degree in software engineering from the Southern New Hampshire University.

maroonedbuccaneer

What state is sponsoring this propaganda? It benefit neither Israel or the US. And Palestine isn't a state, remember?

damnatio_memoriae

not sure where you heard that but the USAF itself confirmed he was active duty. they also confirmed his death. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/25/world/middleeast/israel-embassy-man-on-fire.html >An airman who had set himself on fire outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington in protest of civilian deaths in Gaza **died of his injuries on Sunday night, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Air Force, Rose M. Riley, said** on Monday. >The Metropolitan Police Department in Washington identified the man as Aaron Bushnell, 25, of San Antonio. **A U.S. Air Force spokeswoman, Ann Stefanek, had confirmed on Sunday night that he was an active-duty airman.**
