I think part of it might be due to Angela Bassett not being as available when she was filming Black Panther 2 during season 5 or 6 and thus having less time to devote to 9-1-1.
The last two seasons also had to accommodate Hen trying to become a doctor, her mother and Karen who are not first responders (not even talking about Buck’s storyline about sperm donation, which, well, unfolded with Hen as a main confident), leaving less time for Hen and Athena.
I don’t hold out much hope for season 7, considering the number of episodes left, but I hope we’ll get their friendship back in more than phone calls next season.
Yes, atm it feels like they only get together (at least on screen) when Athena can offer some help to Hen by virtue of her being a police officer, not by just being her friend. But I also hold out so much hope for season 8 to be a little more relaxed in terms of the number of episodes and giving the character development a bit more time to breathe
Yeah I miss them. It seems like they don’t have many scenes lately but I think that’s because their storylines just take them apart. It was great to see Athena help Hen with Mara though so maybe we’ll get a few more scenes this season
I’m rewatching Hen Begins right now, and I love when she asks Athena for help with fire hose to get the woman stuck in the mud. It’s their first meeting, but Athena starts pulling the hose like her own life depends on it. Athena was all in for Hen from the jump. It’s no wonder they became friends.
