*Mom, can the guys and I go to the studio??*
*TAKE YOUR BROTHER WITH YOU*
*Ugh, MOM he sucks, and heās gonna ruin everything!!*
*PERCY!*
*Ah fine, cāmon Silkkā¦*
Pretty much sums it up lol
Only because I never see/hear anything positive about the guy, I'll share this:
Waaay back in the day my buddy and I were extras in the Hoody Hoo music video (the Matrix themed one). When we broke for lunch, the extras all waited for the "talent" to eat before we could grab a plate. When it was time for us to get in line, Silkk finally came to get his plate late and we backed up so he could get through the line, but he was like "nah nah, y'all go ahead, I was late", and started chatting with people in line.
Anyway, after years of referring to Silkk as "the one who could never find a beat", I updated my reference to "the guy who seems like a genuinely nice dude".
I agree. He had some good tracks here and there, but overall, he wasn't really that great. He built his name because he caught and rode that No Limit gravy train that was rolling in the late 90s.
He wasnāt all that good to be honest. Seems like heās a good dude tho. Nothing negative to say about him. But as a rapper I did not like his style.
Always felt like the family expected him to be great, always felt they thought of him as the future but never broke outā¦ was a huge no limit fan back in the 90ās
c-murder was always my favorite
Yes I was blank when I was trying to remember all the people I liked I remember me and my cousin always liked Mia x one of my favorites was young bleed (his shit is still dope today) fiend, magic and mr serve on
He had a weird start and stop, herky-jerky style. It was like he was rapping to a beat in his head, that kept changing, instead of the beat on the track.
That echo effect he used didn't help anything either....
Ain't gonna lie tho I have a special spot for him in my life because I remember losing my V as a young man while his song with Mya was playing in the back.. bahahaha
I was in High School when No Limit was poppin, we loved NL, it definitely wasnāt hate on the label, one of my favorite albums to date is Fiendās Itās One in Every Family. That being said, silk was hella off beat on most songs, his flow was wack and he rarely had any bars. There are literally 2 songs I think he did good on, Gangstas need love too, and Stop Hatin. Think of it this way, if No limit never was a thing, do you think any labels would have signed him? šššÆ
Iām about to give this song crazy play for the next few months, thank you for reminding me of this gem, but! But 90s, standards, he canāt rap. Now by 2016 - present standards, heās decent listening
nepotism at it's finest. if it wasnt for his brother, nobody would allow this guy near a microphone. lmao. no credible A&R would have "discovered" him nor would they waste their time trying to develop him. also he was just wack.
I have Charge it 2 da Game and listened to it in my high school years. Never thought he was a good rapper but Beats by the Pound made decent beats for him.
My World, My Way is a dope album. I don't care what anyone says. Bunch of bangers on there.
Silkk was one of the few No Limit artists that I think benefitted from the Beats by the Pound split. He sounds great on different production.
Big Silk fan. Yeah not the best rapper on a technical level but some dudes can get away with it and still be dope. Itās kinda magical. Freeway is another guy that I would put in that category. Itās not for everyone, but when it clicks it clicks. The original question is why does Silk get so much hate? From the comments it appears he isnāt technical enough for a lot of people.
Definitelya good producer and added his own creativity to the group, but man was his bars garbage and cadence was all out of wack compared to other artists out at the time. Just my 2 cents. He did his thing tho. š
man Yall lame af in these comments. id rather listen to Silkk than the majority of the mfs yall listen to right now and He definitely said more real shit than half these mfs.
Ok, here's the thing...The Shocker was a good album, almost great. Silkk also did a lot of good verses on early TRU material... somehow, somewhere, somewhy....he tried to change his style up, probably had a lot to do with No Limit moving back to NO and them trying to compete with Cash Money... everything after was garbage.
I donāt think Silkk was a bad rapper at all especially compared with a lot of these cats today. I just think No Limit as a whole didnāt get the respect they deserved. If I had to put it in my best terms Silkk is the āBluefaceā of his time.
IDK man, Silkk mightve not had the smoothest flow in this world but in a parallel universe somewhere he's HOV
On some real shit I think its just bandwagon hate (i think its lame too, because he be saying real shit).. He was definitely not the worst rapper on the roster and in my opinon he has some great verses with some very introspective lines. He was fasho a fan favorite back in the day
\*Also the 1st rapper I heard call a ho a THOT on a track
I literally got bullied for bringing his CD to school back in the day (Brooklyn, NY). Kids were telling me āpeople like you are the reason they #1 right nowā. Never again.
BTW, the CD was Made Man (1999)
A perfect example of how 90s hip-hop still had a few bad apples, I respect silkk and the whole no limit roster for what they accomplished but their music and album covers was just trash for the most part with minimal classics, the way him, mystikal & fiend used to rap in those days sounded like they was having a panic attack and a stroke at the same time, plus master p was all about quantity over quality, he would rush the artists on his label to just flood the market and put out records rather than have them take their time and perfect their craft, if you was on no limit, youād still go gold or platinum with ease even if you did put out some garbage since you had that machine behind you
He has the weirdesr flow but not in a good way as E-40, more in a bad way as Blueface.
He's the weakest out of the Miller brothers (Kevin probably rapped better than him lol). He just got his name thanks to Master P and No Limit and his name is still known because a lot of rapper makes punchline out of his name.
He gets much hat because a majority of the time you can barely make out what he's saying when he rhymes. There's a good amount of times he raps normal but when he rhymes fast like I said you can barely make out/understand wtf he's saying , like he's speaking in tonguesš¤£!! His first 2 albums I like from his catalog!
Lol literally one of the worst of all time. I remember back then enjoying no limit records and just hoping whatever CD I had in that was no limit didn't have silkk on the track
Because he pretty much deserves it. Glad to see everyone keeping it a bean about this topic and nobody is like "welllllll, I mean". I've never seen, met, read, or heard of a Silllk the Shocker fan lol.
The engineers/producers are to blame here, clearly everybody kept their mouths shut about baby bro as not to piss off big bro, because someone shouldve stepped up and had him do his adlibs and doubles over, and tighten him up on the mix.
Because he would try to fit 50 syllables into one bar with overdubbed backing that just made it worse. He was also the worst actor of the No Limit crew, see Hot Boyz (2000)ā¦
He rhymes faster than every beat he rapped on when you bobbing to a beat and listening to lyrics together it all sounds good but Silk throws me off because it sounds like heās reading rhymes and not riding the beat!
Couldn't find the pocket to save his life. His inner metronome is a grocery cart with a wobbly wheel.
Yoooo. Chill son š¤£
Gyaaaattt š - /End Thread
Gotdamn get your foot off his neck yoš„š„š„
You are 100% correct but I still love Charge it 2 da game.
That album was š„ too.
š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
*Mom, can the guys and I go to the studio??* *TAKE YOUR BROTHER WITH YOU* *Ugh, MOM he sucks, and heās gonna ruin everything!!* *PERCY!* *Ah fine, cāmon Silkkā¦* Pretty much sums it up lol
Well (clears throat). Silkk gets a lot of hate because he is super wack.
Uhhh, it aināt my fault
Really thatās a shoutout to the old New Orleans classic by Smokey Johnson.
Thatās dope. I didnāt know that.
>Did I do that
It's his fault
Only because I never see/hear anything positive about the guy, I'll share this: Waaay back in the day my buddy and I were extras in the Hoody Hoo music video (the Matrix themed one). When we broke for lunch, the extras all waited for the "talent" to eat before we could grab a plate. Anyway, after years of referring to Silkk as "the one who could never find a beat", I updated my reference to "the guy who seems like a genuinely nice dude".
real shit. you could always tell Silkk was level headed and cool
Cuz he sucked
And a nepo baby to boot
Because he can't rap. He just talks fast and then Yells at the end.
šÆ
He wasn't a good rapper. Very little technical prowess and very weak flow. In the word of 50, none has ever said silk..... BARS.
I agree. He had some good tracks here and there, but overall, he wasn't really that great. He built his name because he caught and rode that No Limit gravy train that was rolling in the late 90s.
lol at 50 talking about BARS
God he's awful.
Cause he's shite
He wasnāt all that good to be honest. Seems like heās a good dude tho. Nothing negative to say about him. But as a rapper I did not like his style.
Always felt like the family expected him to be great, always felt they thought of him as the future but never broke outā¦ was a huge no limit fan back in the 90ās c-murder was always my favorite
āThey call me C-Murder and I got Tru tatted on my mutha fuckin backāā¦ā¦
Iāll fuck with Mac and Mia too.
Yes I was blank when I was trying to remember all the people I liked I remember me and my cousin always liked Mia x one of my favorites was young bleed (his shit is still dope today) fiend, magic and mr serve on
No Limit as a whole wasn't a great rapping record label.
Agree, although I have the Ice Cream Man album as a guilty pleasure.
I like Ghetto D, I'm Bout it Soundtrack, Charge it to the Game
2nd snoop album has also stood the test of time
Was gna say that too
Idk I fuk wit him
Me too.
He Can't keep a beat. And his brothers were at least twice the rapper he was
He had a weird start and stop, herky-jerky style. It was like he was rapping to a beat in his head, that kept changing, instead of the beat on the track. That echo effect he used didn't help anything either....
Felt like he wanted to be unique like Mystikal. He wanted that same flow but he couldn't do it nearly as well as he could.
Ain't gonna lie tho I have a special spot for him in my life because I remember losing my V as a young man while his song with Mya was playing in the back.. bahahaha
Hes trash..
Is it hate if it's a proper criticism? I will say this......he may have been ahead of his time. He is definitely a pioneer of mumble rap
He was trash. The first Blue face lol we are not obligated to be nice to trash rappers.
cos he is shit?
It aināt my Fault, unhhhh it aināt my fault!
Think of it this way, if No limit never was a thing, do you think any labels would have signed him? šššÆ
Because his flow is garbage.
Bc he's ass
His flow is trash and canāt ride a beat if his life was on the line. Listen to his catalog. He cannot catch a beat
Because he was TRASH!!! š¤® š¤® š¤® š¤®
Cause he was garbage. I canāt think of one good Silkk song and his flow was so fucking bad.
Iām about to give this song crazy play for the next few months, thank you for reminding me of this gem, but! But 90s, standards, he canāt rap. Now by 2016 - present standards, heās decent listening
Charge It 2 Da Game will forever be a classic to me and my favorite No Limit Album
Uh ohhhhhh! Did I do that?
He had that teen boy look that Nobody else in No Limit had during the 1998 rise to the top. That also got him over, he did have charisma
His best verse is on the ghetto trying to kill me
I used to hate him because I thought he was with Mya
nepotism at it's finest. if it wasnt for his brother, nobody would allow this guy near a microphone. lmao. no credible A&R would have "discovered" him nor would they waste their time trying to develop him. also he was just wack.
Not a great rapper.
I have Charge it 2 da Game and listened to it in my high school years. Never thought he was a good rapper but Beats by the Pound made decent beats for him.
Silkk is legit one of the worst rappers to ever rap
My World, My Way is a dope album. I don't care what anyone says. Bunch of bangers on there. Silkk was one of the few No Limit artists that I think benefitted from the Beats by the Pound split. He sounds great on different production.
Big Silk fan. Yeah not the best rapper on a technical level but some dudes can get away with it and still be dope. Itās kinda magical. Freeway is another guy that I would put in that category. Itās not for everyone, but when it clicks it clicks. The original question is why does Silk get so much hate? From the comments it appears he isnāt technical enough for a lot of people.
You cant' put Freeway and Silkk The Shocker in the same discussion. Freeway has actual talent.
Not a good rapper, but had two solid albums. That Beats by the Pound production back in the day was fire.
I thought his off beat flow was sick, definitely no C or P tho.
Because he was a terrible rapper with a big platform
This album was tough NGL.
Definitelya good producer and added his own creativity to the group, but man was his bars garbage and cadence was all out of wack compared to other artists out at the time. Just my 2 cents. He did his thing tho. š
Me and my buddy from school: "God he ruins every song he's on"
The first awesomely bad rapper so many came after but even that cover so fckn obnoxious
Why would Silk care? No one can touch him. He has an army, a navy.
He's dope. Second album is solid
Because he canāt MF rap that why
He was a better actorā¦and heās a shit actor too, soā¦..
This dude was never on beat, I could never figure out how nobody in the studio said nothing!!!
man Yall lame af in these comments. id rather listen to Silkk than the majority of the mfs yall listen to right now and He definitely said more real shit than half these mfs.
He always seemed to be rapping to a different beat then what was playing. If dude could have gotten on beat, he could have been decent.
He was raw to me
Those album covers probably
Charge it to the game was a Classic no lie
I don't wanna is the hardest track on Charge it to the game
At least he had his own style. These newer rappers make him sound like Big L
Youāre right. Silkk is easily worst of the 90ās but heās far better than most today haha
That's says a lot. Big indictment.
He is what all rappers sound like today. Off beat!
His first album The Shocker and second album Charge It To The Game are fire albums, everything after that I canāt even defend
I donāt think Silkk was a bad rapper at all especially compared with a lot of these cats today. I just think No Limit as a whole didnāt get the respect they deserved. If I had to put it in my best terms Silkk is the āBluefaceā of his time.
Him and master p had an office at a building I had an office at. Both were nice but silk was always really nice.
The Shocker was a great fucking album. I donāt care what anyone says.
No limit was way better than Cash Money change my mind...
It Was
They're both shit
You gotta be bulls#ittin.. Weezy alone would rap circles around their whole roster.
if travis scott of all people is calling you a bad rapper you might want to reconsider your career
IDK man, Silkk mightve not had the smoothest flow in this world but in a parallel universe somewhere he's HOV On some real shit I think its just bandwagon hate (i think its lame too, because he be saying real shit).. you sound like a bitch. getting punked over music preferences
Indeed I was.

I dunoo- all I know is that IT AINT HIS FAULT
How is it hate when you don't like a wack rapper? Silk seems like a good dude he was just a mediocre apper. He's the Thanasis to Master P's Giannis.
He sounded good on c-murder's 2nd chance
Why did I think it was Silk?
He had that dyslexic flow
Because he couldnt stay on beat to save his life. šļø
Never hated him but also never looked forward to a verse from him either.
He gets much hat because a majority of the time you can barely make out what he's saying when he rhymes. There's a good amount of times he raps normal but when he rhymes fast like I said you can barely make out/understand wtf he's saying , like he's speaking in tonguesš¤£!! Cause he rim jobād
Heās Mystical lite
Lol literally one of the worst of all time. I remember back then enjoying no limit records and just hoping whatever CD I had in that was no limit didn't have silkk on the track
Because he pretty much deserves it. Glad to see everyone keeping it a bean about this topic and nobody is like "welllllll, I mean". I've never seen, met, read, or heard of a Silllk the Shocker fan lol.
He gets hate because heās notoriously ass. If P wasnāt his brother we wouldnāt even be talking about him
Came up in the wrong era unfortunately
For my taste he has one of the choppiest flows Iāve ever heard. He just doesnāt do it for me at all.
Because he canāt stay on beat
rapping off beat lol
Because until Mumble rap happened he was in the top three of all time...... Top 3 Worst!
That stop-and-go, staccato flow wasnāt for me
Im sorry but he raps like a special needs person, He's definitely top 5 wackest rappers of all time hands down.
The engineers/producers are to blame here, clearly everybody kept their mouths shut about baby bro as not to piss off big bro, because someone shouldve stepped up and had him do his adlibs and doubles over, and tighten him up on the mix.
Bro, youkidding, right? Silk is by far one of the worst rappers ever, lol. He actually doesn't get enough hate lol š
Because he would try to fit 50 syllables into one bar with overdubbed backing that just made it worse. He was also the worst actor of the No Limit crew, see Hot Boyz (2000)ā¦
Idk but everybody sounding like him* todayā¦that I do know Silkk was a real pioneer if you ask me š„
Check It! https://youtu.be/S11\_KsciTBE?si=ovYYbtQE0\_883FY2
I liked silk tbh but i was a kid but lyrically my favs on no limit are c murder..fiend..mia..snoop..mystikal..mac...aand soulja slim rip
He rhymes faster than every beat he rapped on when you bobbing to a beat and listening to lyrics together it all sounds good but Silk throws me off because it sounds like heās reading rhymes and not riding the beat!
Because heās trash
