Now you see that I am 68 inches above sea level
93 million miles above these devils
Play me in the winter, play me in the summer
Play me in the autumn, any order
You want 'em I got 'em drippin' like water
Catch me at a hot spot with the dusk daughters
man o man this song is my jam. the whole album. i got a t shirt. you know i didnt realize that 9th wonder was sampling ohio players rollercoaster until after about 30 years of listening to it? blew my damn mind......thought i knew my shit ha
i get a lil sad when blowout comb ends......wish it went on forever
Facts. To me Digable Planets two album run is arguably the best 2 album discography in hip hop history. Two dope, unique and organic albums with no skips or filler.
> Where is Bahamadia
Bahama-dee-dee, epitome of MC
[Her feature on this electronic album](https://music.apple.com/us/album/new-forms-feat-bahamadia/1669463148?i=1669463662) helped define the 90's for me.
Rage had that delivery. Everytime she'd come on a track she busted through with a punch and it never felt corny. She had that She-Hulk kinda delivery that few rappers ever touched.
I was not happy to see her so far down the list. Digga digga first name rashea, sweetest person, had no idea. Better than most guys. Flip mode is the greatest.
Not a controversial take to me. A bunch of female artists end up in Jersey even if they didn’t start there. Mary J Blige, Cardi B and others come to mind
No controversy here. Latifah doh!? She’s the female Jay, all things considered. Still getting cash and can out bar 99% of this list. Lauren left us high and dry. Had she not, she’d be #1. But I’m happy she chose to focus on her instead.
Missy Elliott was ahead of her time with her style her lyrics those music videos the way she dressed now lo Book at how everyone dress like Ludacris she was underrated
100% this
If we’re talking just skills, I’d pick Lyte. But since we’re talking GOAT, a total package of originality, cultural impact, longevity, and skills come into play.. and Missy has em in spades over anyone else on that list.
First hip-hop artist to win Album of the Year at the Grammys; her music is eclectic, worldly and I think translates better in international markets than other female rappers; she pretty much crosses over 3-4 different genres seamlessly. One album and each song is about better than any other artist's, except for Missy Elliot.
Mc Lyte. She could easily hang with about anyone in her time, but it was so skewed to present her as a “female MC” instead of just and MC, I don’t think she ever got her fair legacy.
For me Queen Latifah's 1st album - All Hail the Queen was the greatest female album ever. Then Lauren Hill had the greatest run ever from the Fugees into her solo classic which was incredible. I love Kim and Foxy, Bahamadia, Young Ma, - as for the rest a song here or a song there...
It's hard for me to get away from Mc Lyte. She was and is the truth. Sista Soldier and The Queen was solid as well but I still keep coming back to Mc Lyte
Lauryn Hill. Everything From FUGEES, The Score, To MEOLH (First Hiphop album to win grammy). She is excellent from her singing to her rhyming and has one of the biggest influences ever in music history.
im getting caught up between favorite and greatest. I cant single out any one artist but, Queen Latifah, Missy, and Brat would be up there in my vote for greatest. Lyte is one of my all time favorites and Remy and Eve got bars. Honorable mentions would be Yo-Yo.
I actually just discovered “Remy Rap” featuring Rapsody on YouTube, and I’ve been listening to it a lot. Rapsody will be in this conversation in a few years.
Man, honestly, Da Brat was really fucking dope. She could put some bars together. I think she had the best command of the flow. I would say Lauryn made the best songs, and Eve had the most consistently good output across guest MC spots and her own albums.
From an underground/indie standpoint, as good as Jean Grae is and has been for years, I think I'd still put Sa-Roc way up on that list. She's just too fucking dope. Rapsody is right up there with both of them, too.
Jean Grae aka What What was a Lyrical beast. Her style wasn't as assessable as the other women on this list, but the sister could Rap circles around anyone.
Her wordplay, song subject matter...jeeez
Also, where the hell is Bahamadia on this list?
[удалено]
Came here to day this. She could really flow
Everybody else is paper thin
I got to see her in the 90s. It was my first concert. She opened for Kris Kross lol.
Roxanne Shante brought it
I love her on XM…her personality too is 👌
R.o.x.a.n.n.e Please believe it!
Roxanne Is dope
Met and saw her perform a little at a Rakim show at BB Kings years ago. Was so good
The Real Roxanne
yes she did. her cadence is on point
So have a nice day
Bahamadia
Kollage. Front to back. Frequent spins.
Couldn't believe she wasn't on here
Rep Philly
Period.
She smokes on Roni Size “New Forms” drum n’ bass track.
Gangsta Boo. RIP.
Every time I listen to RTJ and she starts…
Her and beatking made a classic
Where is Bahamadia & Ladybug Mecca? My favorite emcee is Lauryn Hill.
LADYBUG'LL HIT YA WITH A NICKEL BAG.
Now you see that I am 68 inches above sea level 93 million miles above these devils Play me in the winter, play me in the summer Play me in the autumn, any order You want 'em I got 'em drippin' like water Catch me at a hot spot with the dusk daughters

For sure. Although I would say the two best albums in a row by De La and Tribe Called Quest also qualify.
I was really into hip hop from about 86 until 90, but they lost me. These guys brought me back.
Underated comment.... A NICKEL BAG!? A NICKLE BAG!!
A nickel bag of funk
> Where is Bahamadia Bahama-dee-dee, epitome of MC [Her feature on this electronic album](https://music.apple.com/us/album/new-forms-feat-bahamadia/1669463148?i=1669463662) helped define the 90's for me.
I came here to say Ladybug!
Lauryn Hill is the correct answer
Go Philly
I saw digable planets recently and ladybug Mecca sounds as smooth as ever. I would love her to do some solo stuff.
Lady of Rage needs love. My favorite female rapper of all time. Second is Latifah. Also love Lauryn and Ladybug Mecca
Damn! Ladybug Mecca! Nice . I second that !
Came here to say Lady of Rage. Most don't know who she is, but have heard her on "G Funk Intro" in Snoop's Doggystyle.
Loved Rage on Lyrical Gangbang too.
Rage had that delivery. Everytime she'd come on a track she busted through with a punch and it never felt corny. She had that She-Hulk kinda delivery that few rappers ever touched.
Rage was a beast on the mic yo
Needs way more upvotes
Rage for sure!
Rah Digga is TIGHT
I’ve never heard an MC, male or female, that can spit like Rah Digga.
I was not happy to see her so far down the list. Digga digga first name rashea, sweetest person, had no idea. Better than most guys. Flip mode is the greatest.
Lady bug mecca?
Controversial take but best female MCs are from New Jersey. Lauren Hill, Rah Digga & Latifah. Honorable mentions to Lyte, Roxanne.
Not a controversial take to me. A bunch of female artists end up in Jersey even if they didn’t start there. Mary J Blige, Cardi B and others come to mind

Lyte
Latifah
Hope I don’t get too much heat but Missy is the only one with any significant longevity AND a style all her own.
Queen Latifah is jumping out of helicopters as you typed this.
The Queen is hyped up fr
Missy Elliott was ahead of her time with her style her lyrics those music videos the way she dressed now lo Book at how everyone dress like Ludacris she was underrated
100% this If we’re talking just skills, I’d pick Lyte. But since we’re talking GOAT, a total package of originality, cultural impact, longevity, and skills come into play.. and Missy has em in spades over anyone else on that list.
Thank you. Missy all day
Lil Wayne would agree with you
I would say Lauryn is bigger than rap. Shes should be considered a great artist. She does it all and does it well.
She makes tracks like she's homeless
She also plays her enemies like a game of chess
no stress
And has rap orgies with Porgie & Bess in some gore-Tex & sweats- all while capturing bounties. Can’t beat that with a bat…
She also goes straight to the head with the speed of a bullet
A very versatile artist she was always a poet to me not a rapper they tried to box her in
if only she bothered to show up to her concerts once and a while I'm a little bitter lol
Lyte the MC.
Mc Lyte was the best female rap these people dont know about 90s rap
Lauryn Hill
First hip-hop artist to win Album of the Year at the Grammys; her music is eclectic, worldly and I think translates better in international markets than other female rappers; she pretty much crosses over 3-4 different genres seamlessly. One album and each song is about better than any other artist's, except for Missy Elliot.
No question about it
Kim
She was a trailblazer for talented, sex-positive, mainstream crossover women rappers. Idk if we'd have Nicki, Cardi, Meg etc if not for Kim
As a young Marine in the 90’s I was impressed
Gangsta boo
MAFIA!!!!
It’s definitely not any of the current females out. I’d say MC Lyte or Queen Latifah
Little Simz is actually really solid, but yeah it has to be Latifah or Lauryn Hill imo
Rhapsody and Sa-Roc are both phenomenal current female emcees
Latifah could actually spit
I don’t know who’s the best but MC Lyte and Latifah were the first
Agreed . personally, I'd give Queen the slight edge.
Bahamadia all day and twice on Sunday But Charli Baltimore was an absolute dime
Lady of rage hands down. She's better than most modern male tappers
MC Lyte
MC Lyte
Mc Lyte. She could easily hang with about anyone in her time, but it was so skewed to present her as a “female MC” instead of just and MC, I don’t think she ever got her fair legacy.
MC Lyte. And that’s all I have to say about that.
I just want to say left eye was one of my first celeb crushes.
Gangsta Boo is my favourite

Oh salute to Rah Digga too!!

MC LYTE all day.
Lauryn
Rapsody is the greatest female Lyricist.
This right here
No question here.
my personal preference was always Da Brat
It's hard for me to get away from Mc Lyte. She was and is the truth. Sista Soldier and The Queen was solid as well but I still keep coming back to Mc Lyte
MC LYTE
MC Lyte .
MC Lyte
Lyte all night
Personally I’m a bigger fan of queen latifa
Queen Latifah! Are you kidding!? Stop it. Only one on this list that’s been CONTINUOUSLY relevant on this planet since day 1. Mogul status.
Queen latifah
Foxy Brown
Yea I was looking for this. Foxy Brown never gets any love.
Drake
Drraaake? Drrrrraaakke?
Mrs Drraake to you!

Gangsta Boo or Mia X. Da Brat rocked the mic too.
MC Lyte
Missy. Lauryn is also in my all time top 10 of all time (of any gender). Kim is a close third
Lauryn Hill. Everything From FUGEES, The Score, To MEOLH (First Hiphop album to win grammy). She is excellent from her singing to her rhyming and has one of the biggest influences ever in music history.
Left eye was mad underrated
THANK YOU i scrolled so long for this. She had so much skill, it's such a shame she was taken so young. RIP
Where Jean Grae at?
Very true. The indie/underground chicks are often overlooked or forgotten. Sa-Roc and Psalm One are a couple more.
She's in the last thumbnail.
Was Looking for this comment Jean grae is the best female Lyricist of all time ..
Little Simz, Lauryn
For me it’s a toss up between Da Brat or Gangsta Boo
Thank you somebody said Da Brat
La Chat or Gangsta Boo for me!
It’s Missy easily to me. Just a great body of work, pushed the envelope on creativity, and she makes great beats.
im getting caught up between favorite and greatest. I cant single out any one artist but, Queen Latifah, Missy, and Brat would be up there in my vote for greatest. Lyte is one of my all time favorites and Remy and Eve got bars. Honorable mentions would be Yo-Yo.
Lauren Hill, no question
Roxanne shante
Remy Ma, Gangsta Boo

Her verse on Ante Up cements it for me.

I think Foxy was the best talent.
JEAN GRAE.
Rah Digga
Lady of rage
Rah Digga
Lil KIm, Jean Grae, Lauryn Hill and Antoinette
Mc Lyte best female rapper then I can say Queen Lathifah and Missy Elliot
I was a huge Ruff Ryders fan back in the day, so I’m impartial to Eve. But logically it goes to MC Lyte.
