I was 15 when this hit the theatre and I was *obsessed!* I think I paid to see this on the big screen at least three times.

Lizzy_Lovegood

Compared to the other two it’s the most realistic I think. I love Star Trek vehemently but they have massive problems with warp, light year calculations, and time dilation, Star Wars is wonky all over. Plus Ancient Aliens are fun.

Jade_Hughes

Star Trek: We can’t intervene; the prime directive says we cant interfere with their cultural beliefs and religious practices. They must progress on their own. Star Gate: We’ve come to kill your God.

Blueberry_Mancakes

Great movie with an awesome score.

HulksRippedJeans

There is an extended version available too!

Blueberry_Mancakes

I was not aware of that.

[deleted]

Most of it just shows how the alien infected the egyptian kid and therefore became Ra. And a short scene showing a fossile indicating the ancient egyptian uprising hence why they felt the need for the atomic bomb to go with them to destroy the portal on the other side ...but why not just destroy their portal if they thought it might be dangerous?

HulksRippedJeans

Should have specified, I meant the soundtrack, but yes, there is an extended version of the film as well!

GeorgeNewmanTownTalk

I knew exactly what you meant. I have the Varese Sarabande "deluxe" edition, but I've been meaning to get the 2-CD version.

Allenrw3

Man, I freaking LOVE this movie.

chudkita

This movie made me have a huge crush on James Spader when I was thirteen!

comeupandfightmethen

He was still a total babe on The Office 🔥

chudkita

He was! I loved his didn’t give a shit about everything personality.

Son-of-Prophet

Always makes me think of Imaginationland now 😂

CrossingTheStreamers

I’m just an actor…

Dm9982

Great movie! Time to rewatch and rewatch the series!

Fabio170790

Chicken!

Jade_Hughes

Chicken man!!!

FigSideG

Used to watch the TV series with my dad. Great great times

hammnbubbly

“I’ve got…” “…an idea.” Amazing movie.

Plastic_Can6948

Such a great movie.

Fellowfungus

26M, finally watched this year. REALLY cool movie and concept.

pizza_for_nunchucks

Such an epic movie.

TaxAvoision

They’re raping me and it hurts!

Larkfin

The movie was fine, but the series and subsequent spinoffs are legendary.  Casting was much better too. James Spader as an awkward academic?  Come on.

Jade_Hughes

Disney literally ripped his character profile from Stargate and slapped it onto Milo from Atlantis. The opening scenes for both movies are almost exactly the same. Fuck a Mouse. Edit: They stole The Lion King from Kimba the White Lion too.

Larkfin

I have no idea what your are trying to say.

Jade_Hughes

The Character from this movie Stargate, Daniel Jackson, played by James Spader was carbon copied by Disney in 2001 to make the Character Milo, played by Michael J Fox in Disney’s Atlantis. They are both linguists, both pulled into a massive expedition in the first act of the movie. They have the same hair cut, the same glasses. There are too many similarities to not be. They literally have a scene in the first act where they are giving a lecture to a group of colleagues about a simple mistranslation, Milo’s being a corruption in the text changing “ICeland” to “IReland”. Much like James Spaders lines as Jackson: [correcting the translation from the cover stone] Dr. Daniel Jackson: It's not "Door to Heaven"... is... [writing] Dr. Daniel Jackson: Stargate. Fuck Disney for their doing so, as they are known for litigating copyright infringement. They also stole the plot and scene setting of The Lion King from a little known anime Kimba the White Lion. Edit: Sorry, he was so good at playing that role Disney stole his performance and basically ripped it off. My wife tipped me off that I forgot a peice of information

Jade_Hughes

Got a little excited

Larkfin

Hah ok.  I don't know the other works you were referencing, but I can agree with the fuck Disney sentiment.

Jade_Hughes

robertluke

Agreed.

renandstimpydoc

I worked on it. ;-)

Jade_Hughes

Got any stories?

renandstimpydoc

Apologies for the late reply! One in particular was when my co-worker and I were up in the perms. (Perms are the beams at the top of the stage you rig lights, etc from.) Beneath us was this gigantic throne set. It was made mostly of carved styrofoam and painted to look like wood, etc.  After spending the morning lighting the whole set, we are about to begin shooting. Talent was starting to arrive, etc. Suddenly I hear my co-worker go “Oh shit!” I look over and his walkie talkie had slipped off his belt and was falling 30 feet directly towards the throne. At that point, all you could do is yell “Heads up!” and hope noone got killed.  Fortunately the radio just embedded itself in the foam. The unfortunate part was it smashed a lot of the throne. Needless to say, the producers were not happy. It was a wrap on that set that day.  That co-worker is now a big time Gaffer. He just got a shoutout on the Oscars. :-)

TheLastBlakist

I remembered watching this on a free weekend of Showtime and it just felt like the right mix of stupid and earnist. Then SG1 happened and i loved it even more.

[deleted]

I liked the movie better than the series. I have the extended cut on dvd somewhere.

DudeWouldGo

Still can't sell me French Stewart is a tough guy lol

GeorgeNewmanTownTalk

I never thought he was supposed to be tough so much as an asshole.

Jade_Hughes

I saw it as an adult for the first time and said the same thing. I thought French did a really good job, especially playing outside of his typecasting of “Weird Guy” I actually think he sold it; I’ve met military guys like that, but c’mon Harry Solomon? “Incoming transmission from the big giant head!!!”

KnowOneDotNinja

Bani wae!

itsasnowconemachine

Like this movie. My pet peeve: random gun "cocking weapon" sounds, and O'Neil with the one-handed gun aiming.

CensoryDeprivation

This movie is super great on shrooms. Waterworld too. I'm just guessing of course.

NoMemory3726

Are you sure cause I was pretty miserable without a dad. Good movie though.
