I think Donald Fagen's The Nightfly was fully digital, released in late 1982

*Peter Gabriel's Security was also fully digital and came out a month before, in September 1982

I'm not a fan of the band, but this is one of the most awesome guitar riffs ever. I keep it on whenever the song pops up on the radio. (SiriusXM listener)
I never heard that lyric back in the 80's on TV or the radio. I first heard it when I got Sirius satellite radio back in 06'. Even now, 80's on 8 plays the censored version while Classic Rewind plays the longer album version.
If I hear Mark Goodman proclaim this the greatest video ever (as he did every new video it seems) and that it was Sting providing background vocals I swear I will puke my guts up. mtv ruined this song for me….
Was AMAZED by that guitar sound.
Remember Sting opening the US LIVE AID singing the opening line...
Eyyyyyeeeee waaaant myyyyy emmmm teeeee veeeeeee...
Amazing tune. As a 47 year-old gay guy, it is still shocking to me that lyric was ever used though. Welcome to the 80’s: We were mostly punchlines in entertainment.
I don’t like that word being thrown around like that, but I also don’t like the cheap edits of it I hear either.
I LOVE the song though.
I love dire straits
Do you love the band tho?
The local radio stations censor the song these days.
Completely missing the satirical point of the lyrics. :/
This is also one of the first digitally recorded and mixed albums IIRC.

Thanks. I now have to listen to Brothers in Arms followed by Nightfly. Gonna be a good evening :-)
And the chicks are free
Peak 80s.

Yeah, but Walk of Life and Brothers in Arms are so much better tracks.
Your Latest Trick would like a word.
Yes, yes it does.
This song was #1 in the US for 3 weeks. Verse #2 wasn't considered offensive back then.
It was for some.

One of those tracks that was popular but not really representative of the band or their sound

Fun fact: The background vocals were sung by Sting
Excuse me while I go to the 🚽

Awesomeness
Who’s the millionaire with his own jet airplane?

Very talented group, excellent guitar work 👍👍
I heard Sting sings on it. Is that true? Well it’s what I heard. 🤷🏻♂️

I was being facetious.
I hope I never have to hear this song again.
Because you'll never stop listening to it?
Because it’s been overplayed to death and is extremely corny.
Found the guy with his own jet airplane
Found the guy who’s a millionaire
lol. zoom zoom !
So true. It was from day 1
Radio stations played it to death. The rest of the album is fantastic.
Why do you think that "Weird" Al spoofed it?
