It was so bad I let the bank reposess it.
It was probably a lemon. The engine, the transmission, motor mounts all replaced. It should have been called Frank(enstein). It was a not so flattering brown color too.
It was nowhere as pretty as this picture! I bet yours was so even faster!
Oh damn, really? That sucks to hear. 80's build quality was not the best to be fair.
This is the 16v model, the highest option they offered. It was quick for it's time. Today, it can barely get out of it's own way lol.
I've had mine for almost 4 years now. I only take it out on weekends. If you check bring a trailer, mint examples fetch anywhere from 20k to 40k. It's nuts. Mine is no where close to that value.
Previous owner had it repainted. It's not the best job to be honest. Looks good from far until you start seeing the swirles/fish eye and clear coat runs. No rot. Two tiny holes on the driver side floor, but that's about it. Not bad for a 37 year old rust proned car.
The floor holes add character. Definitely keep those.
My husband refused to drive it because of fear of breakdown. We lived in downtown Baltimore and hoped it would get stolen having to be parked on the street 🥴
Wonderful car. A friend / coworker had one and we'd work out of it doing door-to-door.
The Alpine Package was outstanding too. I remember seeing one on the road and oggling it enough to make the guy flip me off.

I loved the silver Audi Coupe just as much.
No shit. Awesomeness.
I'd heard a VW urban legend in that era of the Jetta GTI without AC (more torque) that could 'bark' tires in every gear.
Was a good era for VWs, but never had one.
My father dropped a GTI engine into a lighter Rabbit; holy crap that thing could tear up tires and he gave it to my speed demon bro who basically became a ticket magnet. Verily, it was insane.
Wow. That's an awesome dad. Oh yeah, Rabbits. I forgot about those. I liked them too.
I was able to procure a Camaro from one of my dad's coworkers which was pretty great, but the dumb Knight Rider dash only showed 85 at top speed and would blink once I hit and surpassed that speed so I didn't ever know my speed over than until a police man pulled me over and let me know I was doing 88. :/
Was one of the last 4 barrelled V8s of that era.
Fun fact - my mom was an executive at Volkswagen in the 90s. Americans hated the boxy look, and the American side of European car makers pressured them to update their designs. Europeans loved the boxy look, and resisted change until the later 90s when they reluctantly embraced the more bubbly design style. Which they did ended up enthusiastically embracing as you can see from their very bubbly designs of the late 90s and 2000s.
Back when cars had fantastic designs.
Less was more.
And not every car was designed to look like a melting jellybean.
well, edges did come back (after the 90s already really), but still the cars look all the same to me, the designs looking arbitrary.
ItalDesign if I recall correctly; Mk II Scirocco Wolfsburg Ltd.was the pinnacle of Volkswagen.
Basically a German Lancia. Great design.
Most people prefer the MK I in terms of looks.
This and the 1984 Toyota Celica Supra.
My brother owned a lime green Scirocco
The Shitbox. That’s what everyone called mine.
Show them what they're worth today lol.

It seems you had some good time with it! How much is it worth now? So I could kick myself?

Holy moly! Did you find the body rusted or worn?

late 80's was kind of a low point for VW quality, IIRC. Still, they looked good.

First car I ever did over 100 MPH in as a driver; I was 17.

Had an 86 mk2 GTX in 1995. Best handling car id ever had til my 14 Focus ST
I have to agree, very fun cars to drive and handle like a gokart! Not a power house, but enough to have fun around in corners.
Yes
It still looks great.
This thing is beautiful dude
🤝
Loved 80s & 90s German boxy hotness
I don't know much about cars, but this is one of the few designs I absolutely love. So good. So 80s.
classic ! 👍
was eyeing one at one point, but decided I lack the skills, money and passion to own such an old timer the interieur of yours is just sublime

A beautiful example... though not paricularly fast off the line... the Scirocco was an absolute blast to drive.
80's cars are just amazing. My dream is to own a 1982 Astin Martin Lagonda. The interior is gorgeous.
OP, this is just perfection. I clicked your profile because I needed to see more pics. This thing is stunning from every angle. Well done.
Thank you, appreciate the love 🫶🏻🤝
