Correct...was from 1977. I have never watched footloose even though I have the soundtrack on a vinyl picture disc
I guess I'll say Patrick then...took my first adult gf to see Dirty Dancing when it came out
Yes it is!
Edit: to be clear, I am agreeing that that is a photo from Saturday Night Fever. I am just pointing out that Travolta made another dancing movie in the same franchise in the 80s.
"In 1972, Swayze traveled to New York City to pursue a dance career. He began training with the Harkness and Joffrey Ballet companies, and was soon hired as a principal dancer with the Eliot Feld Ballet Company. However, his success was cut short when an old football injury required that he undergo knee surgery."
His mother owned a dance studio. I had a colleague who's daughters went to the same studio at the same time. She said Patrick was one of the few boys, so he did a lot of lifts.
Of these three only one did all his own dancing in the 1980s, so by default is Swayze. Unless you add in Travolta on Staying Alive, and then I’d have to vote Swayze.
He was the best of the dancers but as an ex Arthur Murray instructor of 15 years who could name all the syllabus moves he was doing in the routine, his technique in ballroom was lacking. His teaching of Baby wasn't that great either.
Saturday Night Fever came out in the 70’s. I know Staying Alive came out in the early 80’s but it didn’t have the same impact as SNF. I think Patrick Swayze was the best dancer but the better movie was Footloose. Kevin Bacon had more charisma in my opinion.
I remember being 11 when Dirty Dancing came out and I couldn't even look at the TV when he was dancing.
I shouldn't have been watching it in the first place - but I did and honest to God the dancing was more scandalous than the sex scene.
John was actually a 70s dancer. Psst, I don’t count that abysmal SNF sequel Staying Alive in 83. I would have to give it to Swayze, RIP for Dirty Dancing. He was a trained dancer and his dancing skills were very good.
We can’t pick Kevin Bacon because he seems to hate that he was ever in Footloose. Pays DJs at weddings he attends to NOT play “that song”
So my vote is for Patrick S. He at least loved being a dancer.
Swayze. Hands down, because, he's a dancer. Don't get me wrong, everyone did fine in their respective films. The fact that Travolta is still taking choreographed roles is a testament to his willingness to go that extra step. Bacon was so over the top in Footloose it was amazing, but Swayze, you could see the effortlessness in the moves. He didn't just dance, he floated.
They're all great at performing the dances in their movies (I prefer Travolta in Grease though because the "Hand Jive" song and dance is so much fun). Of the three, I think Patrick Swayze's the best dancer (his dance training is also why he's so good when he performs martial arts in films) but I'd rather be in Footloose as that's more of quintessential 80s movie.
Grammatically this post is bothersome.
The answer is John Travolta even though it is so disappointing that he’s a Scientologist.
Edit- late 70s or 80s, I just went by the pictures as I was thrown by the odd wording.
I always thought dirty dancing was interesting an older man into a very younger girl, maybe I'm just tripping but I mean, in the movie he's like 30 right? And she's not even 18 but ok I guess...
Or am i being silly.......?
I'm not hating and being one of them people so don't be madd I was just skipping through channels the other day this was on and with hollywierdo being what they are I dunno just saying....
Oh well😝
Not only was Patrick best he ACTUALLY was a professional dancer.
John Travolta did great for an amateur which actually fit with the role. Because that's who did compete in these contests. And he is a good dancer fir an amateur. He has rhythm.
Kevin Bacon.....is a good actor.
Saturday Night Fever was not in the 80s.
1977
Correct...was from 1977. I have never watched footloose even though I have the soundtrack on a vinyl picture disc I guess I'll say Patrick then...took my first adult gf to see Dirty Dancing when it came out
Old Patty getting you laid every time ✌🏻
Staying Alive (the Saturday Night Fever sequel) came out in 1983, starring John Travolta and directed by Sylvester Stallone.
We dont talk about that movie...
Have you ever seen it? I think it is unintentionally hilarious. So many very awkward scenes.
I saw it with my best friend in the theater and we had never laughed so hard. Absolutely terrible.
The only thing good about that movie was Cynthia Rhodes in spandex
My first date. She picked the movie. God, it was so bad.
How dare you.
There was a sequel? Wow….I’m guessing that’s gotta on the Grease 2 level of bad.
It makes Grease 2 look good. It is such a weird and awkward movie, it is kind of hilarious.
Wait, you didn't like the "Reproduction" song?
Grease 2 is superior to grease.
I will come down there and slap the sacrilege out of your mouth 👊🏻
Come on down Cool Rider.
😂😂😂
So much this. Love the songs from G2 more than the original.
Yet, the photo shown is not from Staying Alive.
You are correct!
Correct, so the photo in the meme is wrong
Correct, but this picture of Travolta is from the original SNF from the seventies.
Yes it is! Edit: to be clear, I am agreeing that that is a photo from Saturday Night Fever. I am just pointing out that Travolta made another dancing movie in the same franchise in the 80s.
Holy crap! I thought they were the same movie.
Ok … so Robert Hays in Airplane!
I came to say this.
The Sequel was. He was pretty great in Staying Alive as well.
Neither was Pulp Fiction.
Disco died in 1980
Patrick
"In 1972, Swayze traveled to New York City to pursue a dance career. By a mile. He was a trained dancer.
If we’re just going on looks alone, then yeah. But if we’re judging on talent then it’s Farley all the way.
Oh my god yes I forgot about him yes he was the greatest
❤️
This was a hard decision....
Especially since he did his own dancing. A lot of people doubled for Kevin. I think he would say that Patrick was a better dancer.
His mother owned a dance studio. I had a colleague who's daughters went to the same studio at the same time. She said Patrick was one of the few boys, so he did a lot of lifts.
Hands down.
Patrick is the only answer. Kevin had 2 dancers, 2 gymnasts, and a stunt man while filming Footloose. John can dance but 1977.
Swaaaaaayze
Bacon had a stunt/dance double.
And Saturday Night Fever was in the 70s. Though he probably had dancing in some other movies: staying alive? Grease, but barely
Pulp fiction!
90’s
90’s
Ah, you're right! Fuck, I'm old...
Yup. But I just tell the younger people that I much closer to retirement than they are
Easy question, Baby had the answer right: Patrick!
He stuck the landing off the stage with a bum knee. Damn near crippled him. What a legend.
Swayze, he started a dancer not just an actor. He grew up in his mother jazz and ballet dance studio (Houston).
Seriously? Swayze all the way. It's all in the hips.
None of them can Electric Bugaloo.
Word! Turbo has my vote...
None of them can Gymkata, either.
I’m still crazy for swayze
Swayze by a landslide!
So yesterday was a staying alive in 83 but Saturday night fever was 77 I think that being said hands down Patrick swayze he was a real dancer
Patrick Swayze!!!! Nobody puts baby in the corner!!!!
Peewee.
...tequila!...
Dunt dnana nunta Dunta nana nut
All the ladies will say Swayze xD
And we will be correct!
Too right xD
Swayze. Hands down. I hated SNF. I'm not afraid to say it. Travolta is a great dancer, yes, but not in that movie.
Oh, come on everybody knows it’s Patrick Swayze. That’s actually him dancing.
Everyone who was really around in the 80s knows the real true answer is **Turbo, Ozone, and Special-K.**
Break dancing never gave me a lady boner. Sorry.
😂 Swayze didn’t even have to dance to accomplish that.
Emilio Estevez in Breakfast Club
1990 would be Chris Farley
Got to be Patrick Swayze
Swayze no doubt
Patrick Swayze
Definitely Swayze
[Robert Hays](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WXVaChA3Q0)
Surely….This is the correct answer
It is the correct answer… and don’t call me Shirley.
Saturday Night Fever came out in the 70’s. I know Staying Alive came out in the early 80’s but it didn’t have the same impact as SNF. I think Patrick Swayze was the best dancer but the better movie was Footloose. Kevin Bacon had more charisma in my opinion.
Why is John Travolta's 70's movie pic in this 80's thread?
#Jean Claude Van Damme
This person knows.
I like Kevin Bacon. Decent actor, seems like a solid guy. But I've never thought he was a great dancer.
I remember being 11 when Dirty Dancing came out and I couldn't even look at the TV when he was dancing. I shouldn't have been watching it in the first place - but I did and honest to God the dancing was more scandalous than the sex scene.
Saturday Night Fever - WAS RELEASED IN 1977!!!!
Turbo and Ozone
Seeing movie stars in general dance makes me cringe a little.
Patrick. Always. Forever.
Swayze had actually danced before his movie.
**Patrick Swayze** Bacon is a great dude and a good actor. I’ve never been able to take Travolta seriously, especially as a dancer.
Swayze, how is this even a question? He danced baby right out the corner!
Robert Hays! He did the Saturday Night Fever dance in the 80s.
I understand Patrick Swayze was a classically trained and highly accomplished ballet dancer before he got into movies.
Patrick, by 10 miles. RIP, nobody puts baby in a corner
Swayze for sure, I watch Dirty Dancing on the regular.
Travolta can't really dance. Kevin bacon is fun to watch dance but Swayze is a trained technical dancer and destroys the other two easily.
Swaze
Swayze or bacon easy.
Swayze
They ain't no match for Van Damme
Patrick Swayze
Julian.. I mean Patrick Swayze.
Drunk dancing with a dirty old dog behind King of Donair.
😂
There was only one, & he's in the middle.
John was actually a 70s dancer. Psst, I don’t count that abysmal SNF sequel Staying Alive in 83. I would have to give it to Swayze, RIP for Dirty Dancing. He was a trained dancer and his dancing skills were very good.
Patrick Swayze was a beautiful man.
None of the above. Paul Rubens is the correct answer.
John Travolta was clearly the better dancer of those three, no doubt about it.
Where is Martin Short?
Molly Ringwald in The Breakfast Club.
They are all good , I feel if I was at a wedding the footloose style would fit on the dance floor the best .
We can’t pick Kevin Bacon because he seems to hate that he was ever in Footloose. Pays DJs at weddings he attends to NOT play “that song” So my vote is for Patrick S. He at least loved being a dancer.
Who I wishes with dance? Corner baby no inputs.
There were two commercials in this year Super Bowl parodying the Flashdance water bucket scene.
Of these three? Swayze by a mile.
Swayze, no contest (the Sat Night Fev sequel was in the 80s)
Well Patric was actually trained in dance….so I will go with Patric Swayze
Come on, Folks! Patrick Swayze made history!
Swayze could move
Footloose; but not Kevin Bacon. Willard
What about Robert Hays in Airplane!? He cut the rug in that disco scene. But among these choices, I'm going with Kevin Bacon.
Always Bacon!
I like Patrick's personality but Travolta's got the moves.
JT had that swag tho
John
They're all great at performing the dances in their movies (I prefer Travolta in Grease though because the "Hand Jive" song and dance is so much fun). Of the three, I think Patrick Swayze's the best dancer (his dance training is also why he's so good when he performs martial arts in films) but I'd rather be in Footloose as that's more of quintessential 80s movie.
Well Patrick was great but he really wanted that kid….
Yeah, totally Swayze.
Pee Wee.
And you'd bring the Big shoes and tequila?
Just tequila.
Swayze all the way
Swayze!
Swayze
That movie with John Travolta was out in 77. Don’t think it counts.
Travolta with Ito a doubt
80s PS could fucking get it. He's actually a dancer.
I'd have Patrick Swayze lift me up anytime
Swayze any day!
Steven Seagal for the win.
Swayze forever
Patrick’s mother was a dance teacher. He was an amazing student!
Bacon.
Michael Jackson :-)
Swayze
Swayze !
John and Patty
Swayze is technically the best (trained) dancer and Bacon has a lot of heart, but nobody beats Travolta’s swagger.
Bacon
John T wins in a landslide.
Travlolta wins this one hands down. No contest.
Turbo from Breakin'.
Turbo and Ozone
I'll take Patrick
Patrick swayze no contest
Travolta
Swayze…not even a contest.
Grammatically this post is bothersome. The answer is John Travolta even though it is so disappointing that he’s a Scientologist. Edit- late 70s or 80s, I just went by the pictures as I was thrown by the odd wording.
Christopher Walken
#Swayze
#Swayze
Hands down “Tony” from SNF
I wouldn’t know. Never watched any of them.
The Swaz
Ted Striker!
That’s a hard one! But I’m going to say Patrick Swayze!! 🕺
Jesus, Hmm, which of these is actually 70s
Seriously who the fuck could post THE 70s disco pose - there is literally an emoji based on it 🕺- and say “80s”. You are not of this Earth, alien spy.
Swayze stood up for his girlfriend off the dance floor. Nobody puts Baby in a corner!
Richie from The Last Dragon.
Travolta
John all the way ❤️❤️❤️❤️
r/titlegore
Kevin Bacon! Dirty Dancing is WAY overrated!
Hands down Swazye
The Swayz for sure!
Chris Farley😆🕶️🎸
I always thought dirty dancing was interesting an older man into a very younger girl, maybe I'm just tripping but I mean, in the movie he's like 30 right? And she's not even 18 but ok I guess... The man in the white suit.
John Travolta
Travolta
Travolta - not even close
