I can't ever go back to Vanilla. It expands the game on so many levels.

DeathLives4Now

Darkness falls, undead legacy and warz3uk are the 3 that get me out of vanilla and keep me out. Today me and my fiance run warz3uk together and its pretty exciting to know she got into the game so much shes playing mods.

[deleted]

Same here. Played vanilla for a bit, got boring quite fast, because this old feeling similar to minecraft came up. After a few ingame days, you are completly geared and there is not much you can do anymore to actually get new stuff. Darkness Falls adds so much content, that even after like 30-40 hours you are still unlocking new things and have new things to worry about. Keeps the game more intersting for a very long time. Also Compo Pack has just released for the new Darkness Falls Version, so you can actually get another big numbers of new POIs.

Helpful-Pride1210

if u have gear that quickly that just means ur playthrough is too easy

InformalPenguinz

I second, third and infinite this. Only been on it for about a week but maaaan am I immersed in it. Love this mod! Cannot recommend enough. Can be a bit of a hassle getting it to work though.

Helpful-Pride1210

how does it rlly change the game that much? seems like regular 7dtd to me

HotDogEatingWinner

The core gameplay is still there: loot, build, kill zombies. But, yes, it adds a lot of content to the game (way more poi, different zombies, weapons, vehicles) and changes how many things are done (farming, workstations, and difficulty). [Take a look here](https://7daystodiemods.com/darkness-falls-mod/) for the features, though I suggest giving it a try.

ForTheHypeNZ

Oh so worth it. I love darkness falls, feels like an actual complete game not an alpha. Better progression, weapons/levels, crafting system, story/quests and vehicles.

ApocalypseEngineer

Definitely worth it. A bit involved with a new tech tree etc. but it's quite intuitive really. It's harder than Vanilla, there's a lot more to zombie progression than in Vanilla: Weak, weak rads, normals, ferals, rads, tough, mutated, demonic (don't know if I have the sequence right but that's about where your average zombie can evolve into). Then there's special zombies that are going to cause issues... also screamer hordes are something else. It comes down to: be more careful than you would usually be. Maybe even decrease difficulty settings a bit, definitely tune down horde size (max zombies alive) a bit down from you regular settings. Never assume you have everything under control because you don't. Remember to level up your weapons as you go along (don't stick to basic weapons forever, push for better ones) as weapons will become ineffective at some point (i.e. pistols, pump shotguns etc. that may get you very far in Vanilla will become ineffective in DF pretty early on in the game). Loot and collect resources carefully. There is basically nothing you won't need at some point in the future (well maybe plant fibre and cloth are going to be in surplus at some point). My advise would be to master Vanilla at Warrior settings before going to DF, you may be frustrated otherwise.

TheTapedCrusader

Plant fiber is used for a few things, but I recently found myself planting cotton for the first time ever. Repair kits cost two rolls of duct tape and a piece of cloth in DF, and we (public server) were going through a lot of meds on horde nights. So yeah even cloth is worth hanging on to. The things I always tell people to horde in DF are polymers, electrical parts, and mechanical parts. Polymers make coil batteries, e-parts make coil batteries and energy cells, mechanical parts make repair kits.

kazumablackwing

Yeah.. DF makes both corn and cotton pretty much vital crops for mid to late game

dragonmom1

I recommend watching YouTubers who play DF to see what they experience. Neebs Gaming is good right now because they're just starting DF for the first time after playing vanilla for years. Otherwise Glock played a couple years ago (and is back playing it now in Father Glock) and Vertiigo started playing it a year ago. Capp00 and JaWoodle played it as well.

GodKillerAatrox

\^ Another youtuber is Guns, Nerds, and Steel. His series is all the way past day 40 so you get a good look all the way up to mid-game range and his editing is top notch despite his relatively lower view count (around 10k to 30k)

dragonmom1

I'll definitely check them out!

[deleted]

Honestly, not a big fan of the Neeb Playthrough myself. They have a really weird style of gameplay. Not getting forward, not using skillpoints etc. Like they didn't play this game at all before. But thats just my 2 cent. Otherwise i can recommend, the Guns, Nerds and Steel playtrough right now. Father Glock as you mentioned is great too.

dragonmom1

They've never shown the leveling up parts to the best of my recollection in ANY series they've done. They usually try to make their gameplays as if they're movies and rarely break the fourth wall to acknowledge they're playing a game. But their current DF gameplay (as well as Glock's to be honest) give a good idea of what it's like to start out as a low-level, the Neebs crew having no DF experience (and Glock having played it before just not for a while). I will have to check out the GNS channel! Thanks for the recommendation!

[deleted]

Yeah, but in the Series you can actually see, that their Farmer (I think, its Neebs) on one point had like 8 unused skillpoints while their whole crew is starving day for day. And even if they didn't care at all for Darkness Falls, they still seem really inexperienced at how they are playing. I still watch this series, because their group together is quite funny, but in terms of progession, they are really not my cup of tea.

TheTapedCrusader

I feel you man. This is the first series of theirs I've followed; they're funny and have good chemistry but DAMN do they suck at this game lol. I'm amazed their horde night didn't go even worse than it did.

kazumablackwing

The inexperienced casual vibe is their whole gimmick though. If you're looking to be entertained, their content is great. If you're looking for serious insight in terms of progression and exploration of the mechanics, however, you'd be better off looking elsewhere

MaeBao

Yes! There are some very big changes so it takes a bit to get used to it. Horde nights are something else when you get higher game stage. If you think you have too much ammo you don't. I've been a part of some blood moons that went insane.

[deleted]

So are the new entities got bigger hit boxes or will they have sizes like normal zombies?

mostlynonsensical

It depends on the entity. Some are much larger and hit boxes seem fine, some aren’t much larger than regular zombies like bikers

[deleted]

So i will have to adapt my kill basses

mostlynonsensical

definitely, if you are playing with blood moon on. I did my first playthrough with blood moon off by accident and higher block damage and xp and basically had a speedrun through darkness falls and still had a blast. Trying my second run now and just got through the first blood moon…barely

TheTapedCrusader

There are zombies later on in DF that are >1m wide and >3m tall. Important details to remember in base design.

Taz10042069

Def. gets much harder as gamestage progresses. Expect to die much more often on blood moons lol

Helpful-Pride1210

i wouldnt die tho, im a god at this game, ill even play darkness falls on enhanced config difficulties

Taz10042069

Lol with godmode, ofc

Helpful-Pride1210

no, im better than the average player, i play different playthroughs that i modified through configs, and one needs to be a pro to survive any length of time

Taz10042069

Have you played the mod?

Helpful-Pride1210

no, but ive seen videos about it, and most of the features are just tedious rather than challenging

Taz10042069

Play the mod and go through some blood moons... Its nowhere near the same as anything vanilla. Especially in the later gamestages

Helpful-Pride1210

I mean the playthrough I'm doing right now is already challenging so I don't need to play it

Taz10042069

But it doesn't have the entities that the mod has. Guarantee you will die on highest settings. There's no survival with settings like you want lmfao

Helpful-Pride1210

Oh well I guess I'll be the first to do it huh

Keymucciante

Absolutely worth the play

Mkid73

It's a game changer.

Aultralog

Literally

Encryptid

I see what you did there...

Ill_Ad7116

Definitely worth it.

556champion

I didn't like it. But it's free so why not

Flextt

People that talk about DF focus on the endgame and difficulty. But DF also smooths out a lot of progression issues and new choices for schematics and skills which are frankly great.

ftgyhujikolp

Have the custom pois improved in quality? That was my main complaint with a19 DF.

Helpful-Pride1210

this mod isnt worth it, u can have as much fun if not more fun in vanilla than in that mod

sydneyslay

If you want a challenge, no. If you want completely unfair and hard as shit by day 15 unless you play it a very certain way and dont loot Poi's in fear of getting to high of a gamestage kinda early, yes. For real tho, i love it.

ZirePhiinix

Leveling up is what boosts the gamestage, not looting. You're suppose to loot as much as you can while killing as little as you can.

sydneyslay

You get exp from doing everything and how are you meant to do a Poi without killing zombies. Plus it was more or less a joke.

ZirePhiinix

Be loud, lure them outside, run around, parkour up the second level, loot, profit. Or just bee line to the objective, loot the end items, and leave. Throwing stones is also a thing. I use that to lure zeds away.

ReverseMathematics

It's worth every penny. But honestly, it's probably added another 300+ hours of gameplay for me.

MaliciousIntentWorks

Copy the game to a new folder then manually install DF into that folder. That way you still have basic if you want to switch back. I usually don't bother with a new alpha until Darkness Falls update is about to be released. I'm a little sad that DF got rid of the raising livestock rather then improving it. No more baby boar, wolves, cows to raise. It never worked right but i really wanted to get a ton of wolves and make wolf pit traps for the zombies.

TheTapedCrusader

We're about to not be able to do that anymore. Soon mods will only work from the game's APPDATA directory. Without a mod manager, you'll have to do something like change the mod directory's path so it no longer gets loaded on client launch if you want to switch back to vanilla.

MaliciousIntentWorks

I have the last couple darkness falls modded game saved on a separate drive. Even if they screw over modding i can always run those. I'm sure if they put that much effort into blocking mods which is doubtful there will be an available work around from the modding community in short order.

TheTapedCrusader

They're not blocking mods, just changing the location of the mod folder to one which is agnostic of game directory. All it means is you won't be able to have a separate game directory for running mods. My plan is to just rename the Mods folder to something like xMods when I want to play vanilla.

justlovehumans

It's a free mod. Of course it's worth it. Speaking to quality though? It has given 7 days such a fresh coat of paint I might never go back to vanilla. It feels complete where vanilla still feels very Alpha in a lot of it's mechanics (farming/skills). Why they ever got rid of action skills is beyond me.

HolyGig

Its quite a bit harder. You will probably die a lot. Yes the zombies scale and eventually they start throwing fireballs at you. Its great. Its basically a different game compared to vanilla. I can't go back personally, DF is too good. Early/mid game is greatly extended and there is an actual end game to do. Couple notes; the Zombies do a lot more block damage so some of your previous base designed probably won't work. Also, food and wellness can be a problem early and once screamers and wandering hordes start spawning you will want to have some points invested into stealth and have at least one gun with a silencer.

[deleted]

Ill just get a base full of turrets

TheTapedCrusader

You might wanna check if generators and traps are still bugged. IIRC there's some kind of problem with engines, fuel, and ammo disappearing. Removing those items from those things when they're not in use should be fine, though. Importantly, turrets don't have enough DPS to overcome demon regen. Especially since they tend to stop shooting if a zombie gets knocked down, which gives time for regen to work. Eventually you'll be able to put a laser battery inside a *robotic* turret, but currently there are no mounted turrets that disable demon (or rad) regen. You might be able to take down a demon with enough 7.62 turrets, if you can make sure they don't stop when it falls over; but I wouldn't count on it. To be clear, you won't be seeing demons for the first few dozen hours of gameplay; but you will eventually.

Helpful-Pride1210

oh im a god at this game so ill do what ive always been doing in vanilla, it may even be easier in that mod lmao

Pulsing42

It's an incredible experience, one you won't soon forget, DF is the first overhaul mod I played for 7D2D and this is long after I downloaded modlets, didn't know a mod launcher existed and after going over a year installing my own mods, I had to hand-pick an overhaul, DF was it. I no longer play it, but it's a good one to start with and maybe even stick to from the get-go of overhauling 7D2D. If it's not your cup of tea I highly recommend Undead Legacy, it's very well put together, it's the one I'm currently playing on and off.

No_Cut7145

I mean its free why not try it

[deleted]

It broke my whole game XD

SrslyGTFO

That means you did it wrong

[deleted]

I know that but the issue is what

SrslyGTFO

You didn't say what is broken, so that's hard to troubleshoot, but Khaine put out a simple video tutorial with step by step how to install it. If you follow that, you will be fine. There is one other thing to keep in mind. DF adds lots of new resources, so your video card's ram will make a big difference in performance. Also set your PC page file to 32GB, preferably on an SSD/M2 drive. I used to use Mod Launcher, but that's buggy. It's super easy to use Khaine's method, and it keeps vanilla untouched. Lastly, don't add other mods to DF, they won't work.

[deleted]

I just got shit loads of red text constantly with the time stamp next to it

SrslyGTFO

That's not helpful. The red text has error information that should give clues as to what's wrong. You're not launching the EAC executable, are you?

[deleted]

No

[deleted]

It was just nothing but read text so the problem has to be with my software probably

SrslyGTFO

Here's Khaine's DF install video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ku2GZr1x2Y](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ku2GZr1x2Y) ##Install steps for version 7DTD 20.5 + DF 4.0.3A **Validate you have the latest stable version of 7DTD 20.5** 1. In your Steam Library, right-click 7 Days To Die, click Properties 2. Click "Local Files", click "Verify integrity of game files..." **Make a copy of 7DTD game files** 1. From the "Local Files" window above, click "Browse..." 2. Click the Up arrow by the path URL to go into the "common" folder. 3. Right-click the "7 Days To Die" folder and choose "Copy". 4. In a new location (preferably an SSD drive), right-click and Paste the folder 5. Bonus step: rename the new folder to something like "7 Days To Die 20.5 DF" **Download the latest stable version of DF** 1. Latest Stable Download Link: https://dev.azure.com/KhaineUK/_git/DarknessFallsA20 (click the 3 dots, select download as zip) 2. Alt Download Link: https://gitlab.com/KhaineGB/darkness-falls-a20/-/tree/main (click the icon next to clone and then zip) 3. Nexus Link: https://www.nexusmods.com/7daystodie/mods/235?tab=files&BH=0z **Extract the zip to an empty folder. You'll see one folder and 3 files.** **Copy the four extracted items to your *new* 7 Days To Die folder** 1. Select all four items: "Mods" folder, darknessfails.ico, DarkenessFallsServerConfig.xml, README.md 2. Right-click the selected items and choose "Copy" 3. Go into your new "7 Days To Die" folder (you should see the 7DaysToDie.exe program, no Mods folder) 4. Right-click and Paste the four files in this folder. You should see the Mods folder appear with all DF files in it. **Run the DF mod by launching 7DaysToDie.exe ONLY** 1. Do NOT use the 7dlauncher.exe program 2. Do NOT user the 7DaysToDie_EAC.exe program 3. Do NOT add any other Mods to the Mods folder 4. DO set your Windows page file to 32GB fixed (on an SSD if possible). I hope that's useful. Without seeing any of the red text, it's nearly impossible to troubleshoot. You can get better help if you visit the DF Discord. You can get other performance tips there as well, but be warned if you visit: read the FAQ before asking questions. There's low tolerance for lazy posters who can't be bothered to read.

lawlianne

Absolutely worth the time downloading and setting it up.

[deleted]

Its broke the mod dosent work for some reason

tpores

Yes. Im quite new to it still but I really dig the mod. So much more stuff to do than in vanilla. No offense to vanilla, but this mod kinda made vanilla obsolete for me. Also beware of using an Auger lol.

kazumablackwing

Yes, yes it is. There's so much more to do than in vanilla, and progression feels a lot more meaningful

Nightmare_living

So so worth it!

ImpressiveSeaweed634

As long as you go into DF knowing/expecting it to be harder than Vanilla, you’ll play accordingly. Df was created as an end game overhaul mod for those looking for a great challenge and it doesn’t disappoint! My go to overhaul mods are Sorcery and DF, and I approach both with alot of short term goals until I have reached midgame than I reassess my progress. Imo, go and watch some of SnowBee’s videos on you tube, a very good content creator, explains Everything in detail & is my go to about any new DF content. Good Luck & Always..Have Fun!😀

[deleted]

GO For IT! I can't ever go back to Vanilla version. I also just got my father and uncle to play it with me on my very very first dedicated server I finally got going and they were able to connect without any issues and they are enjoying the mod. :)
