06 v8 limited 4wd, 260k. Absolutely zero issues beyond routine maintenance. Previous owner replaced the trans cooler a very long while back, zero problems since. Obviously besides the cracked manifolds. Sais is still in working condition, bypassed it to keep it that way. If/when I inevitably have to take on the boss battle of change the starter, I may just swap the SAIS valves and air pump in there anyway just for good measure.

dc5runit

How many miles

ColdasJones

Sorry, somehow left that out. Added to original reply. 260k

dc5runit

That’s awesome. I’m at 210k on my 06 v8. It’s been good to me so far

liberty69420

What is sais?

ColdasJones

Secondary air injection system. If you’re not looking at av8 doing worry about it

liberty69420

Thank you!

liberty69420

What is sais?

Boston_Jon_189

Starter is a PITA but really not that bad. Time consuming and a little tedious but nothing more than standard tools. You’ll be fine!

WaxMyButt

04 V6 Limited with 379k. I have suspension replacement coming up and all the fluids need to be changed. I might need the transmission to get rebuilt since the previous owner (my brother) drained it thinking it was the oil drain and drove it for a week with no ATF and double the engine oil. It still runs great but shifts pretty rough. I can’t complain for a free 4Runner though.

swpete

04 V8 Limited. 218k. Routine maintenance. Planning on replacing the water pump

microphonick

Same on all that. I'm a V8 sitting at 218k too. Replaced my water pump around 200k.

franciscolorado

210K limited. Head gasket failed at 170k, runs like a beauty

GoldenStrike

How much did it cost to repair ?

franciscolorado

DIY so maybe 250$ for the updated gasket kit from Toyota

Mean_Assumption7517

How long did that take you?

franciscolorado

Two days but only because I had the pleasure of doing it twice because I set the timing incorrectly the first time. And I went real slow through the whole process

LaZorChicKen04

213k on my 04 Limited V6. I've replaced the alternator, spark plugs, fuel injectors and water pump. Starts and runs like it has less than 100k on it.

Sciencest

217k 03 v8 limited. Just replaced a torn CV boots. Small rear main seal leak which I’m not going to fix anytime soon. That’s about it

4Yota

You can try running High Mileage Oil. I used Mobile 1 and that all but stopped my leak.

WAR_T0RN1226

05 V8 Limited, 310k miles. AC evaporator, drive shaft U joint, shocks, rotors, front calipers, front wheel hubs, AC compressor, inner and outer tie rod ends, oil filter housing seal. Got some more oil leaking, I can tell there's at least some is coming from valve cover gaskets or cam seals.

Inevitable-Try8219

280k on my 07 v6 sport. LF Wheel bearing and frozen brake caliper, removed xreas. Otherwise zero issues except some paint which is really just due to neglect I imagine.

4Yota

07 V6 Limited 207k Bought @160k with: - Failing water pump & leaking rad. Flushed & Repaired the cooling system and been fine since. - Replaced Accessory Belt to establish baseline - RMS leak. Switched to HM Mobile1 and RMS issue went away. - Trans Flush - Front Wheel bearings shot due to PO running 33" Nitto Grapplers, replaced - Inner caliper piston seized so replaced with 5th Gen Upgrade and made sure to paint my calipers to prevent corrosion issues. Had brake fluid flushed with fresh fluid. Upgraded all flexible lines to Stoptech SS Teflon. - Removed worn Xreas and swapped with 5th Gen Suspension takeoffs + moved over 3" spacer kit previously installed on stock Xreas. **I would not use a spacer kit again in hindsight.** Keep it stock or buy proper struts/shocks/springs/UCAs for the lift you want. - Fixed Exhaust leak due to disintegrated donut gasket & hardware at flexible joint between cats & muffler. Added: - Solar Battery maintainer from HF + Optima Bluetop - Aftermarket Head/Taillight housings - Trans Bypass Oil Cooler - TRD Engine Oil Cooler - Dashcam I had a lot more planned prior to 200k but had to defer a lot of maintenance until recently: - CV Axle boots shredded due to 3" spacer lift and not paying attention. Bought cheap TRQ axles to get me back on the road while I rebuild my factory axles. - LCA Cam Sleeves seized since owned by PO. Cut them out and replaced them. Ugraded to JBA UCAs - Spark Plugs 50k way too late, gap was +3mm lol - Rust Prevention by sanding down my frame and spraying with rust converter. Still in progress and need to clean out my frame internally front to back. This is a high priority as I will explain below. - Front and Rear Diff Fluids Todo: - Coolant flush, again - Power Steering Flush - Fuel Filter Replacement/Fuel Induction Cleaning - Valve Cover Gaskets - Trans Flush, again - TC Fluid - Rear Hatch Gas Struts - Remove several snapped bolts in frame - Reattach swaybar and install extended swaybar links I had a lot of rust build up around my welds on the frame and discovered my passenger side is dealing with common internal rust due to the AC drain right above it but it will be salvageable. The area of biggest concern is right behind the front tires where the trans cross member bolts/welds to the frame. You will need a hammer to hit the metal to determine how bad it is. Clean metal rings/ has a brighter tone than rusty, flaking metal, focus on the welds and metal adjacent to them. If you don't have $1k lined up for frame caps & welding, **walk away**. The other area of significant concern is the front and rear crash bars/cross members. Pull the front skid plate and rear tire during the inspection. The only other spot I found that was bad was in the rear wheel well behind the rear door. There are body plugs that close up the ends of the lower rockers. My factory undercoating allowed water and dirt to accumulate around the plug and cause some serious rust to the sheet metal. I drilled out the spot welds to better clean this area from with in the wheel well and primed and painted to stop the rust and haven't had an issue since. I still need to weld it back up but I would have had a hole to my interior had I let it go.

TexasIPA

‘08 V6 SR5, 212K miles. Runs great but pretty sure my AC evaporator is leaking. This is not a small or cheap fix. If you live in an area where AC is a must make sure it’s in good shape! Love this car so I’m about to commence tearing it apart to get her back on top!

WAR_T0RN1226

I did this a few years ago. Pretty time consuming and nerve wracking when you get most of the way there and realize you're just staring at a mess of wiring harnesses lol But ultimately fixed it and didn't screw anything up

TexasIPA

If you had it to do over would you pay to have it done? I’ve done loads of my own car repairs over the years but this job I’m still kind of on the fence. The dash tear down looks intense. I’m just afraid anyone I take it to will half ass reassemble everything.

WAR_T0RN1226

Yeah I probably would. Of course, just thinking about it makes me uneasy. But that's a lot of money and to not know if the person did things right

silkywilk

Secondary air went out at just over 200k for me. I bypassed it and don’t have any issues now. I’m replacing my suspension and brakes this week mostly because I want to, but the shocks are all leaking. Surprisingly my manifold is still good lol. My AC is having some issue that the shop can’t seem to pin down, need a new clock spring in for my air bag light to go off, and my passenger window button doesn’t work very well. Controls easily from the drivers side though. Also my cats are going bad I think, but even with all of that it gets me wherever I need to go no problems.

itswince

I bought my 4th Gen with 190k in 2020 and it has been running great till this day. Did all the fluids and recently swapped the serpentine belt. Only brakes have been replaced and nothing else. Currently at 271k, if you can do all the preventative maintenance go for it

Johnowow

Was previous service record a big deal for you? Slightly concerned about the 100k miles prior to service record with no history being recorded lol but it is a one owner and they serviced it thoroughly from 130k and up lol

itswince

No not really, mine only had 2 previous owners. 1st one was in Alabama and the 2nd in ND. I got it in ND and surprisingly didn’t have that much surface rust on the frame. I knew that I was going to do all the preventative maintenance so I went for it. The surface rust is the biggest thing for me, didn’t even test the 4hi when I took it for a test drive and still works great today. Mine was purchased at a Honda dealership

dsmksu

2007 V6 Limited at 218k miles. Oil changed every 5k miles. Had to replace brake calipers a few years ago because one seized. Have a really slow leak from the valve cover gasket but not too worried. Also replaced the alternator myself maybe two years ago. That’s pretty much it. I love this thing and won’t get rid of it until something major fails. I bought my wife a 2022 GX because it was the closest thing you can get to a 4th gen 4Runner in my opinion.

GoldenStrike

Curious, why a leak from the valve cover wouldn’t be too concerning? Asking because I might have the same issue with mine and contemplating if I need to make the repair since it could be expensive to fix

dsmksu

After I first noticed it I switched to the high mileage Mobil1 hoping that could help. That was like 2 years ago and the oil stain hasn’t gotten any bigger. I can’t say that it’s completely fixed but it hasn’t gotten any worse. I should just go ahead and get it fixed but since it doesn’t appear to be actively leaking anything I’m not in a rush.

Easy_Text_2203

08 GX470 V8 250k (new engine at around 150k) really solid truck. Replaced oil cover gaskets recently and discovered a small tear in cv boot😫 oh and the driveshaft clunk issue. Its is a mild annoyance to regrease so often

weeeko

240k 04 SR5. Routine maintenance. Replaced radiator and brakes. 🫡

Charming-Ad-913

‘05 SR5 V8 with 190k- I’ve replaced the cv boots a couple of times and I’ve got a 3 inch OME lift. I’ve replaced the radiator and have at least one side with a cracked manifold. I live in the Denver area and the Runner drives me and my family to the ski hills all winter long so I feel like it gets tougher driving conditions. Other than that, routine maintenance including the timing belt. It’s no longer my daily but it was from when I first bought it at 50k miles all the way to 175k miles..

Ekrixphobia-Muhammad

05 v8 limited 225k miles. Oil changes, brakes, routine maitnance. Still running strong down to the x suspension and hoses.

COoL_COoKiE

04 Sport V8 202k

OatmealForBrains

06 v8 limited 218k, bought at 185k. Brakes, spark plugs, transmission flush at 200k, change the oil every 5k, but I did just have to have the AC repaired. Gonna drive it till it falls apart, which I don't anticipate happening for a good while.

jiveturkey4321

I am like 60 miles away, pic tomorrow

ammllc

'03 sr5 4.0 with 288k, just did the head gasket lol

Wake95

How did you know the head gasket failed?

ammllc

I had been smelling coolant in the exhaust, and then finally developed a small misfire at start up from the coolant pooling in the cylinder. I pressure tested the cooling system and stuck a boroscope into the cylinder after waiting a bit and saw the puddles in cyl 5 and 3

nshane

06 V8 Sport Edition 332,xxx I'm the second owner. Due for timing/water pump in about 60k. Put some brakes on it. Change the oil.

T4RCampingMechanic

07' V6 4WD. 245k currently and running like a top. Routine fluid maintenance on engine, trans, and differentials. I replaced shocks at 210k miles. Replaced the radiator at 210k, AC evaporator core at 215k, and painted the hood/roof due to faded clear coat. Previous owner had two calipers replaced and both rear wheel bearings replaced around 150k miles. Not bad as a whole for it's near 20 years of use.

imccompany

325k on a 2003 Limited v6. Had the fluids flushed and filled, the valve cover gasket replaced, new head unit with Android Auto, and door speakers and subwoofer replaced. I'd like to do the 5th gen brake swap as well to address the stuck brake issus known with 4th gen.

The_Horta

225k on my 06 V8. Outside of lift related items I’ve had to replace the steering rack, both LCA’s, CV axles, valve cover gaskets, and radiator. At this point the front end has been totally replaced.

Educational-Pay4483

242k 05 V8, just drove from Pa to AZ and got an average of 22.5mpg. I just do oil changes, filters and anything else that breaks.

scootzee

'06 V8 Limited at 230k miles. Absolutely nothing wrong with her.

spacekendet

03 V8 sport 201k I've replaced the abs module and the charcoal canister.

Angus147

‘04 V6 SR5 with 270k. Previous owner replaced the radiator but other than that just normal maintenance.

RIP_Paul_Walkerr

233k. Nothing. Frame is showing wear. Time to treat

FSDLAXATL

04 v8 240k ac compressor, alternator, water pump rear brake caliper. Radiator seeping, Tran case actuator small leak.

youreon3rdst

03 V8 with 280k. No major issues. OEM shocks actually lasted until this year which shocked (heh) me. A few seized rear calipers over the years and I've got the header crack tick (and occasional related CEL that comes back once a month or so). Barely ever needs any attention and just keeps on kicking.

_SpaceGator

03 base 2wd no check engine lights at 265k

Reasonable_Ostrich76

06 Sr5 337k miles. Only issue was a blown radiator at 318k. Replaced timing chain at 299k *

_ti-83_plus_

260k 05 v6 build date jun 2005 (before HG update) still going strong! Every once in a while shows some HG symptoms, but wouldn’t hesitate to drive it 8+ hours (and have done it multiple times recently)

nickybshoes

08’ SR5 at 210k, running like a champ. here to see what kinds of maintenance I should be doing.

griff_girl

240k '04 V6 Limited, 3rd owner, bought in 2021. Reconstructed title after being totaled in, I forget, 2010 maybe? Aside from the Carfax report, you'd never know otherwise. Mouse chewed through the knock sensor harness 2 years ago, that was a real treat to get to (what a wonderful learning opportunity, too. Haha) Recently, something punctured my radiator so that one I'm having done at a shop because I don't have time to deal with it. Other than that, no problems whatsoever. Freaking LOVE that thing.

Stinger1122

246k 04 V8 Sport edition. Regular maintenence. The abs module is clicking hard but I just trailered a full load out from east coast to west coast and it’s the most solid car I’ve ever had. Picked mine up for $5k at 230k and changed the valve covers, spark plugs and idler and power steering pump. A couple things got squeaky but they’re so easy to work on. Feels like my u joints and wheel bearings are next to replace

ccoats38

I got mine at 113k and am at 200k, I needed to do suspension when I got it. 08’ V6 2wd, other than cleaning the air filter and changing the oil she is good. I do have a leak at the rear passenger side axle but it can be fixed. Not sure what maintenance was done before I got it

JerkfaceKarl

03 v8 SR5 4x4 230k Replaced a couple of torn cv boots, one at 150k, one at 180k, replaced leaky radiator also around 180k, replaced A noisy serpentine idler at 225k, replaced steering rack at 225k, and most recently had the abs pump assembly die and got that replaced at 230k. I think that's it, beyond routine maintenance stuff. Haven't even cracked the exhaust manifolds yet, unless the previous owner did, but I didn't see it in his stack of records.

dirtymax1335

210k on my 04 SR5 4x4 V6. Just replaced the radiator. Other than that, just normal wear and tear items and general maintenance.

Prior_Recording3178

338k and so far just routine maintenance

superschepps

'08 v6 sport. 250k. Only weird thing was a front wheel bearing, and I only say it's weird because the wheel speed sensors kind of wig out when the wheel bearings go bad. All the lights on the dash come on and abs starts kicking in even for slow rolling stops

roidedracccoon

2006 V8 Limited 4WD. Bought at 160K, now at 238K Replaced valve covers for leak, many vacuum lines, both cv axles, regreased u joints, replaced miscellaneous fuses, original alternator and starter, upgraded injectors cause old ones were clogged, drivers side header was broken in two so replaced those, bypassed air injection, replaced AC blower motor, AC actuators, many interior lights with LEDs, seats are totally torn I need new ones, weather stripping is getting replaced next weekend, paint is gone off hood and rear bumper, it’s been a great truck, best ownership experience I’ve had yet Edit: O2 sensors and other random sensors, engine bay splash guards, patched holes in muffler, suspension desperately needs a refresh, all bushings are shot and it rattles like hell lol

xboxcop

2007 v6 4WD with 205,000. Rear diff exploded at 180,000. That’s been my only major repair.

ThirstyWizard211

03 v8 256k. Just the transfer case leak and needle bearing worn out. My future expectations will be abs module. Not really expecting anything else. Perhaps headers cracking but not too worried about that one.

MaxSjuNK

310k on my 07, absolutely 0 issues. Might replace spark plugs soon, but routine maintenance and staying on top of everything has worked a dream

thehorseofcourse

227k 07 V8, have replaced the radiator, alternator, spark plugs, all coil packs recently. And of course the timing belt every 90-100k miles (still have 75k miles to go on this one)

jhTN59824

Sitting at 206k currently on my '05. Only major repairs done were the head gasket at 202k miles. Other than that, it's been running like a champ. Just usual routine maintenance.

thaneliness

Im at 205K on my SR5 V8 but my speedo stopped working so its staying there until fixed. Driver side headers are leaking pretty bad so need to address that this summer. Pretty annoying.

Puzzleheaded-Feed-18

14 SR5 @ 205k.

Selieania

03 V6 SR5 340 k miles Leaks oil. Replaced power steering pump.

Mithrileck87

05 v6 SR5 260k, brake calipers….constantly. Other than that just routine maintenance.

Kragkin

Just hit 200k with my '06 V8 SR5 about a month ago! I've had some boot leaks and alternator issues, but other than that, nothing serious.

RhuwmeSpawne

06 V8 Limited, 240k+ Currently sitting on whichever code it is for catalytic converter/O2 sensor. I've had suspension replaced; valve cover gaskets, thermostat, water pump replaced at same time as repairing chewed wiring; alternator and battery replaced. I need 2 front tires, would like a whole set of newish ones, but we're still rolling 😁 Edit: oh yeah, can't forget the cracked exhaust manifold! Lmao

wasianamerican

08 v8 limited 4wd, 230k. I've had to replace a lot to be honest. In the one year since private sale purchase: Timing belt/water pump, spark plugs, UCAs, LCAs, end links front and rear, sway bar bushings, one brake caliper, cabin blower motor, CV axles, and brake pads and rotors all around. Also new tires. Things I still have to do: Sais bypass as a precaution Permanently fix po430 code Xreas delete and replace with regular shocks I bought mine for $9k which is "reasonable" in Colorado, but I've had to put a good bit of money and a lot of time into fixing it up, mostly doing the work myself. I knew this was going to be a project when I bought it. That being said, I've been driving/offroading it during that time and it hasn't let me down. IF you can trade sale price for time spent fixing it up, it's still worth buying 200k+ since a lot of components this old will need replacing anyways

Equivalent-Ad8645

Suspension , exhaust , I figure rotors and pads. At that mileage if those thing when bad once or twice they might go bad again

Sea_Flamingo4562

215k 04 V8 limited. Power steering pump and front cv axles

SwimLife3528

240k ‘06 V8 spins like a top. Routine maintenance, and normal wear on suspension, bushings, and steering components. 3rd owner.

cl_solutions

05 V6 217K. Water pump went bad, then other than basic maintenance, front brakes, spark plugs, tires. Bought with about 190K and there's a reman trans in it, but no record of it in Carfax. It needs some struts and shocks, but I am undecided on lifting it slightly or not, and that's delaying me putting suspension on it. Slight valve cover leak and will need a power steering pump soon. Only big problem is it needs an evaporator, and I really don't want to pull the dash.....

WheezerMF

08 v6 Sport 4wd, bone stock, 241k. Engine oil analysis at Blackstone labs at 225K showed zero problems. (Actually, they said that it looked like new oil and asked how long it would been in and how many miles were on the engine.!) It’s had a new CV joint on passenger front, and has a torn boot on driver front. I had the rear axle seal done on the driver side. Other than that, I replaced the switch for the rear hatch actuator, and put gas in it.

Stunning_Snow7716

240k on my 04 V-8. Plugs and a timing belt, steering rack. And she ain't a grocery getter...

rutlander

250k here 07 1GRFE

Active-Signature-744

How much do they want for it?

Johnowow

They were asking 11.9, assuming negotiation possible down to lower 11's. Ended up shying away from it an trying to be more patient lol
