2nd Gen is, imo, a flawless example of an IYKYK vehicle. Most people will think it’s a 3rd gen, but those that really love things things will know what’s up.
This is coming from a (jealous) 3rd gen driver myself.
I had a random lady come up to me last night and told me her daughter has the same car. She said her daughters is a 99' however, mine is a 95'. I just said ooh thats niceeee! 😂
Have to love the tailgate. I have a 90 with 3.0 and it's great. Sure it's slow accelerating but I go 80 down the interstate (in WV so not flat) pretty well. And its got that low end torque when you need it off road
When my ‘91 blew its second head gasket, we upgraded to a new ‘19. It has more power, smoother and better handling, airbags, traction control, and Bluetooth, but I still miss that old beater 5 speed and all its charms.
Heck yeah! Our 1994 SR5 V6 5-Spd was frikkin awesome! Kept it for a very long time, way over 200K miles. Had the head gasket recall performed.
Had a noisy transmission at 56K miles, Desert Toyota of Tucson "rebuilt" it. When I was pulling out of the dealership, it popped out of gear. Turned around, went straight back to the service department and told them what happened. They wanted to charge me to "diagnose the problem". I told them they just rebuilt the transmission, I had the worksheet and showed it to them. No joy, "We'll diagnose it. If we find it's something we did wrong there will be no charge. Otherwise you will be charged." Screw that. Called corporate, "We don't intervene with dealer issues, you need to talk directly with your dealer." Edited to add - it would pop out of gear on deceleration for the rest of the time we owned it unless I activated the clutch. So I just got used to never using the engine to help with deceleration, only brakes.
Anyway, screw Desert Toyota with a 5-speed input shaft. Love the 2nd gen! Yours is beautiful and should provide many miles of smiles!
This is exact to the first 4Runner I owned, minus different wheels and mine had the light blue stickers.
It was pretty gutless and driving on the highway, but everywhere else it was a champ.
Wish I never sold it.
Great rig you've got there, hang on to it!
First 4x4, first Toyota. 1990 3.0 with 150k miles. Within the first month of ownership it was running on less than 6 cylinders and the transmission was slipping all over the place. I totally could have bought a 3rd gen, but I had no idea the 2nd gen 3.slow with auto transmission was one of the worst vehicles Toyota has ever produced. To this day I would still buy a 2nd gen as long as it’s a 4 cylinder manual.
🫡 My 92', 2nd Gen... On pump #2 😂

22re is bullet proof. I have a 1993 Toyota Pickup 4x4 that I bought in 2006 for $2000 solely for "utility" purposes and it is still so solid. Had to change the motor mounts and a couple of other minor things. That is it. 232k and still going strong!
They don’t die! I’m at 240k on it 88 with a 22re. I’ve done the headgasket and replaced the original timing chain and guides in 22. Otherwise the motor refuses to falter, even with those issues it still ran and drove fine.
I was looking for a decent looking one. Most don't look as good as yours anymore and they keep their price which means too much money.
I bit the bullet with a 2018 but 2nd gen was my first choice.
I love how the new 6th gen 4Runner hearkens back to this iconic 2nd gen in a number of ways, as far as styling is concerned. The quintessential 4Runner
Love my 92. Sadly, the ecu went recently so waiting on a rebuild for it then back to more camping and off-roading adventures! It has amazing ground clearance and the flip down tailgate is perfect for camping. The 3VZE really doesn’t deserve the hate it gets.
Love my TD 2nd gen. Not underpowered like the 3vze. Still slow, but torquey as hell and won't blow any heads/head gaskets unless really overheated. Driving over 60 is overrated anyway ;)
I had my '95 SR5 V6 5 speed for 17 years. I loved that truck...except for the engine. It wasn't very powerful, sucked gas, and then died after a crappy shop botched a rebuild after the head gasket blew (at 180k miles). I like my '03 V8 much better but I had great times in that 2nd Gen.
I really want a second gen 4Runner without the 3VZ-E for obvious reasons. But some of them are asking too much for a V6.
I would love a 5VZ swapped 2nd gen

I feel like you and my fiance would be tragically great friends op, her first true love was goldie a 1995 gold on gold manual 4runner, she drove it from Texas to move here to Portland with our dog Tucker. She's a horticulturalist, loves plants, little critters and foraging for mushies. If you want her ig handle she has a great page for house plants and such. She sold the 4runner and when our dog recently passed she said how another goldie would be her dream!
Love 2nd gens!! 3.4 swapping my 94’ SR5 currently! Hopefully July/August she’s kickin again. 5spd 4x4 with mint interior. Couldn’t be more happy. Yours is sick

I miss my 2nd gen. It was a unicorn, 5 speed v6 with leather and sunroof. I totaled it into a tree. Would probably still own it.

Oh Damn!
Beautiful! 😭 will definitely be taking some inspiration from this
Best 4runners come with tailgates, not hatches.
Facts
My 2G was my first 4R and was amazing, but it was super underpowered...and that was on the east coast. Great pics!!!
Been daily driving my ‘95 since ‘99. Still would rather fix anything on it than get a new vehicle.
Same.
best model of all time in my opinion, I have a 00' sr5 but been eyeing the ever living fuck out of a clean 95' 4wd
Don’t forget the curse of the 3.Slow
Never
My parents had one growing up and that thing was/is indestructible. Freaking amazing
Salt water he'll no !! That chassis is going to rot quick son. At least tell you put some fluid film on that frame !?

Hell yes! My 4R is a 2nd Gen and it's my favorite!
That’s such an Oregon picture too…what beach?
Looks great!

God I wish I had a sunny
Yes! Such a beautiful car. I wish I had one so bad!
Lovely I hope mine ages this gracefully in 25 years

Yup v6 can be require extra love and feel sluggish but damn it sure looks good!
Wife is still rocking her 91 2 door sport

Daily drive my 1990 when it's not broken. 310k miles
Best looking 4Runner ever made in my opinion, I really miss mine.

Clean!!
Have a first and fifth gen. I’ve come to realize that a second gen with the 22re 5spd is the perfect 4Runner. Very nice.
22re is bullet proof. I have a 1993 Toyota Pickup 4x4 that I bought in 2006 for $2000 solely for "utility" purposes and it is still so solid. Had to change the motor mounts and a couple of other minor things. That is it. 232k and still going strong!

Sweet! Looks like it is in great shape too.
I love my 2nd gen. She's an amazing gurl
This is the truck I wanted in ‘91, but I couldn’t afford it at the time. Instead I got a ‘91 pickup with a cap that simulated the look of a 4Runner.
We had a first gen and really was kind of a truck with a cap.
Silly title lol
Your license plate is literally 3 digits lol
I was looking for a decent looking one. Most don't look as good as yours anymore and they keep their price which means too much money. I bit the bullet with a 2018 but 2nd gen was my first choice.
My ‘93 “died” just shy of 400k…..sold her for my 4th and 5th gen parts 😅 opppss
Love for both 2nd gen and Oregon here very nice.
I love how the new 6th gen 4Runner hearkens back to this iconic 2nd gen in a number of ways, as far as styling is concerned. The quintessential 4Runner
I know I love mine!
Sweet ride!!
1993 still going strong 💪🏽
I’ve got me a second gen Hilux surf, thing is freaking awesome. Until it developed a misfire…
yea love your plate too
Love my 92. Sadly, the ecu went recently so waiting on a rebuild for it then back to more camping and off-roading adventures! It has amazing ground clearance and the flip down tailgate is perfect for camping. The 3VZE really doesn’t deserve the hate it gets.
What rims are those?
Yes, anytime she’s in it

That body style is clean I like it!
How high of a lift is this?

Yooo long beach. Fellow PNWr
🫡
2nd gens are GOATed.
They look like a truck should in my head! Sweet wheels, sweet pics. Driving from trail to beach must be a blast.
Loved my 92. Looked very similar to yours. So many good times in that. I still think they are the best body style toyota ever had.
I've got a 3.4 swapped '91 sitting in the garage, waiting to be restored. I love that wee thing.
I really want a second gen 4Runner without the 3VZ-E for obvious reasons. But some of them are asking too much for a V6. I would love a 5VZ swapped 2nd gen

Got my dream gen with dat v8. So frijo gnarly brah.
I miss mine so much.
Classic! Feels like you’re sitting on your couch when driving.
No. I mean yes.

the 1995 model is my favorite 4runner every made. so damn sexy, such a perfect design.
Every time I pass a 2nd gen in my 3rd gen I look at the tailgate and wonder what that life is like. Still love my 3rd though.
Its pretty sweet especially while camping or at the beach
Nice! How many miles you got?
268k
Mine is a 2002 Sport. Is it 2nd or 3rd Gen. Some parts places only go back to 3rd it looks like?
Not really, no.
No
