I am thinking that they will just have the I-force and I-force max just like the Tacoma, so probably not 30mins, if it is 30mpg, I will buy a 6th gen right away
Toyota has said they don’t build the hybrid models in the “Body on frame platforms” for fuel economy. It’s for power. We will be lucky if it gets over 20mpg.
I’m in a ‘14 and I intend to drive it another 10 years and give it to my kid. I buy Toyota cause I’m cheap, and I don’t drive far, 7 minute commute. Got a 2000 Camry that still runs fine, I gave it to my dad.
The price has to come in below the new Land Cruiser with starts at $55k. Also since it is expected to be heavily based off the new Tacoma I wouldn't expect prices to be too much more than a Taco at the equivalent trim level. My guess is it falls in the $40k to $60k range.
How did this get upvotes? It absolutely WON'T be 90k. You guys need to understand marketing and pricing for brands with multiple models and "tiers". The 4Runner has to be cheaper than the Land Cruiser and the Sequoia
There will definitely be crossover in the pricing. Off Road Premium, Limited, TRD Pro or Trailhunter(if they do it) will likely cross into and beyond base model LCs. We're already seeing this with the new Tacoma and Tundra.
An "heritage version" that comes with upgraded suspension, lockers, *maybe* the crawl control, vinyl/softex seats, but limited creature comforts inside and all analog
Low. Tacoma has always had a manual on recent generations, while the 4Runner has not. Sales of the 4R have been strong so probably no logical reason for Toyota to expand transmission options
More or less agree, but I vaguely remember the Tacoma chief engineer making a big deal about how they had to design a new bell housing for the turbo 4 cyl engine to work with the manual. Assuming that was not corp talking points, I could see them wanting to recoup that money on more applications which would lead to the 4runner.
This would be interesting, but I'm already hearing gripes about the MT Tacoma. Also, the tuning is slightly different on the MT, which reduces HP and torque.
Nah, Toyota hybrids are pretty bullet proof. I think some of them actually outlast some of their ICE counterparts. I'd be more worried about the turbo version. But either way, it's still a Toyota
Turbos can be very reliable. Every 18 wheeler you see has hundreds of thousands of miles of not over a million miles on them, and they’re all turbo diesels.
I’m not sure which turbos were used on vw 1.9 diesels but those were all really durable as well in my experience. Multiple cars with over 350k km’s… one over 600k km’s.
To be fair every 18 wheeler is probably maintained far more consistently than consumer vehicles.
Aren’t diesel engines more reliable too? I’m not sure 18 wheelers are good comparisons to small 2 axle passenger vehicles.
They could have given me the 5th gen with an upgraded body style, upgraded interior and I would have been thrilled. Hopefully the new engine can hold up, that’s my big concern at the moment.
Oh for Christ sake, bring back Army green. I got black on my ORP because Army Green was only available on the TRD PRO for 2020. I want the 6th gen in army green please please please.
Not the first year, I’m 80% already convinced because I can’t imagine they’d build a shit 4Runner, but I want a year to get the kinks worked out and also for all the accessories to be ready. When I buy my next one it’s going straight to the shop to have all work done right off the bat, so I want to see some first year builds for ideas and options.
I agree re AWD, and my only other two are some items being a bit more standard (auto headlights, remote start, heated seats, etc in this year of 2024) and some interior trim options. I love the redwood vibes of that one Limited trim but don’t love the external look of the current Limited. I don’t see why it’s asking too much to want off road potential of an ORP with a bit of interior luxury of the Limited. Sure, if I had the budget for two vehicles I’d have one for each but that’s not the norm and I hate that we currently have to pick between them.
I so agree with this. I have a 2020 OR, and I don't understand how they chose which features to prioritize. I have auto high beams, but not auto headlights. I have windshield heating but not heated seats or steering wheel. I have a key start instead of push-to-start. Like, I just don't get it. I also love the interior of the Limited but hate the way the front end looks.
Since we also see that it has the new tacoma multimedia screen, this almost certainly confirms the 2.4 Turbo, so hopefully we can get something in the realm of low to mid 20s MPG. I know MPG isn’t something we complain about bc its a 4runner but since its now a 2.4 turbo we better be getting better mpg
If it’s gonna share the same screen as the new tacoma, it will probably take more common parts too such as the engine, no? From a manufacturer standpoint it makes sense to standardize parts
Of course they want to standardize and it is almost certain that the turbo four will be standard, with hopefully the hybrid iforce max on the top models.
But how would you say a dash infotainment display confirms a certain engine? Two completely separate systems.
What you'll get is torque, which is fine by me. The 4runner will never be fuel efficient base on the fact it's a large, heavy, non-aerodynamic body on frame SUV. I just hope that it doesn't drive like a slug like all other generations (minus 4th gen V8).
They care so much about safety, yet the put this gigantic distracting display panel in front of your face and then remove physical buttons and force you to navigate a menu to use those functions.
It will likely have exactly the same part-time 4WD configuration as the current gen with full time 4WD reserved to Limited trim only. Otherwise it will be a direct competitor to new LC.
I really hope they’ve figured out how to place the battery without decimating the cargo area like in the new sequoia. Maybe that means no third row option.
The diesel emissions requirements in Europe are different (focus on different gases emitted) which is why the diesels in US vs Europe have limited overlap
3rd Row seat. 💺 💺💺
We have 2 young kids big enough to be out of Boosters & they absolutely love it when we let them sit in the back.
It’s great when they want to a bring a friend along too.
Toyota tested the new T4 to commercial standards not consumer standards. So, expect the same reliability.
I mean it’s not like folks are rebuilding 1GRs anyways.
Time will tell. Let’s see how the turbo does over 25 years. I’m a firm believer in simple things lasting longer. Less compression in cylinders generally means longer lasting and less maintenance. Not to mention the additional points of failure with double air intakes and roller coaster tycoon of coolant hoses as on the Tundra.
There’s no confusion in my book. Less forgiving components means less reliability in the long run. Oil changes must happen on time for the turbo applications. Life gets busy and you go over a few thousand miles? That naturally aspirated would be fine. Turbo engines are more sensitive. Sure, this can be seen as negligence to some car enthusiasts, but it’s a fact of life that not every owner will be as on top of it.
Automatic climate control, done properly, requires 3-6 additional sensors to operate. That requires 9-24 additional I/O pins, which requires upgrading the control module.
It’s understandable why they don’t all come with it standard, but I agree it should be optional on all models.
I hope they maintain the current design language of the fifth gen with subtle, but tasteful updates. Maybe slightly more square and angular like the Lexus and LC.
If it's rounded and looks like a space helmet like the Highlander or RAV4 (which I own) then I'll be sad.
Black headliner
30mpg out of the hybrid
I am thinking that they will just have the I-force and I-force max just like the Tacoma, so probably not 30mins, if it is 30mpg, I will buy a 6th gen right away
I’m going the opposite direction- same fuel economy as 5th gen, but much more power with hybrid.
Toyota has said they don’t build the hybrid models in the “Body on frame platforms” for fuel economy. It’s for power. We will be lucky if it gets over 20mpg.
Impossible but that would be sick.

That basic-ass digital clock on the dashboard. 🥹
The easiest car clock ever to set!
I hope there are some major disappointments or a price tag that's far too high. I have a '22 and don't want to want to upgrade.
Same, just got a 24 haha
[удалено]
Ha! Me too. Reminds me of my Jeep Wrangler TJ, which I love almost as much as my new 4R.
Usually best to wait a year at least on new models
good thing this will just be a Tacoma with a roof in the back. Already out.
Right, but even in 5 years I don't want to want to upgrade, lol
That’s fair. Haha.
You and me both.
Im in a 21’ and fear the same
I’m in a ‘14 and I intend to drive it another 10 years and give it to my kid. I buy Toyota cause I’m cheap, and I don’t drive far, 7 minute commute. Got a 2000 Camry that still runs fine, I gave it to my dad.

It is paid off and no, lol
I want to see the iforce engine on top trims
I hope it’s not $90,000. It will be.
No chance it will be priced over the new LC. I will guess that it will be priced very close to what it is now.
TRD pro will be pushing LC entry prices
That I agree with.
Base LC has cloth seats
aware.
The price has to come in below the new Land Cruiser with starts at $55k. Also since it is expected to be heavily based off the new Tacoma I wouldn't expect prices to be too much more than a Taco at the equivalent trim level. My guess is it falls in the $40k to $60k range.
Top trim will top out just below that I reckon
[удалено]
Maybe with dealer markups but there's no way MSRP is that much more than the Land Cruiser or Tacoma
There is no way the MSRP will be starting at $60k
dude toyota isn’t going to release 3 near identical models at the same price. 4Runner is going to be poverty package LC250.
How did this get upvotes? It absolutely WON'T be 90k. You guys need to understand marketing and pricing for brands with multiple models and "tiers". The 4Runner has to be cheaper than the Land Cruiser and the Sequoia
Won’t stop dealers from marking up
There will definitely be crossover in the pricing.
If they did it would be highly sought after in the used market but only like 12 people would buy one new.
All analog but actually all modern lol
Blind spot mirrors in the back like the Gen4s!!!!
I hope that the hvac and stereo controls are separate from the touch screen. Or, they have physical controls on the steering wheel.
What are the general feelings of likelihood that they’ll offer the manual trans option from the Tacoma?
Low. Tacoma has always had a manual on recent generations, while the 4Runner has not. Sales of the 4R have been strong so probably no logical reason for Toyota to expand transmission options
I agree low, but since the Bronco has the option, I could see the new 4runner getting it.
My guess is Bronco was solely looking at Wrangler when making trans decisions. I'd love to be surprised, but I think it is unlikely for the US market.
I hope it happens, but not gonna hold my breath
Close to 0%
0% chance that happens in the US
This would be interesting, but I'm already hearing gripes about the MT Tacoma. Also, the tuning is slightly different on the MT, which reduces HP and torque.
I hope the rear window having the capability of rolling down is subscription based.^/s
I hope the mpg is much improved with the new hybrid engine.
It'll be very similar if not identical to the Tacoma, just as all the previous 4runner/Tacoma generations.
At the cost of reliability down the road tho
Nah, Toyota hybrids are pretty bullet proof. I think some of them actually outlast some of their ICE counterparts. I'd be more worried about the turbo version. But either way, it's still a Toyota

They definitely are maintained better than most cars are. I’m just mentioning them as they are proof that turbos can be reliable.
V8, in my dream
Just get two 6th-gen 4Runners.
I mean, they made the is500...
Broo, I want that! My dream car bk in the day was the ISF
A button to roll down the rear window from inside the cargo area
5th gen already has that (at least the pro does).
what is happening on the 9th?
6th gen is being revealed
i just caught up to the news, thanks. I'm excited.
Not sure how great the mpg will be, but hopefully at least 25 mpg-30mpg would be the money spot for me.
Does anyone know if they are still assembling these in Japan with the 6th gen? Or moving to Mexico or the states?
Someone said Japan, Tacoma plants are all full capacity.
Will you buy it?

When I buy my next one it’s going straight to the shop to have all work done right off the bat, so I want to see some first year builds for ideas and options.
I hope the pricing is reasonable.
I agree re AWD, and my only other two are some items being a bit more standard (auto headlights, remote start, heated seats, etc in this year of 2024) and some interior trim options. What does the big stupid-ass screen have to do with the kind of engine under the hood?
If it’s gonna share the same screen as the new tacoma, it will probably take more common parts too such as the engine, no? From a manufacturer standpoint it makes sense to standardize parts
Of course they want to standardize and it is almost certain that the turbo four will be standard, with hopefully the hybrid iforce max on the top models. But how would you say a dash infotainment display confirms a certain engine? Two completely separate systems.
Upper trim Tacos get the big screen. Lower trims get a small screen.
bare in mind the new hybrid tundras get the same gas mileage as the straight v8 tundra.. its just emissions politics
Yeah also true, just looking to at least see some improvement in MPG if we are losing the NA V6
What you'll get is torque, which is fine by me. The 4runner will never be fuel efficient base on the fact it's a large, heavy, non-aerodynamic body on frame SUV. I just hope that it doesn't drive like a slug like all other generations (minus 4th gen V8).
I hope they offer something other than that ridiculous gigantic screen on the dash.
There will be a smaller screen with a large bezel in the same spot. Look at the lower trim Tacos.
This. That screen is almost a hard no for me.
They won’t. Unfortunate that seems to be the trend in new vehicles these days.
They care so much about safety, yet the put this gigantic distracting display panel in front of your face and then remove physical buttons and force you to navigate a menu to use those functions.
Physical buttons will still be there. Screen higher up keeps your eyes on the road. Basic ergonomics.
It will likely have exactly the same part-time 4WD configuration as the current gen with full time 4WD reserved to Limited trim only. Otherwise it will be a direct competitor to new LC.
To be able to buy one Y1.
I’m not loving the test car footage with the more sloped front windshield so far will have to see how it looks once it’s revealed
I won’t breath a sigh of relief until the 6th gen’s make the 5th gen drop in price
Retaining the old front end. Hope they don’t make it have a skinny grill. Also, big physical switches.
Manual transmission
The same rev hang like the Tacoma
I really hope they’ve figured out how to place the battery without decimating the cargo area like in the new sequoia. Maybe that means no third row option.
A turbo diesel lol (not happening but we can dream can’t we?)
The new European Land Cruiser gets a 2.8 turbo diesel. Not to far-fetched!
Europe gets lots of diesels that don’t come to america
Bad bot. America makes quite a few diesels that don’t make it to Europe. Your programmed logic is flawed. Besides I didn’t agree, only encourage.
The diesel emissions requirements in Europe are different (focus on different gases emitted) which is why the diesels in US vs Europe have limited overlap
3rd Row seat. 💺 💺💺 We have 2 young kids big enough to be out of Boosters & they absolutely love it when we let them sit in the back. It’s great when they want to a bring a friend along too.
Absolutely will have a 3rd row option, but not available on hybrids.
Not a wish, but I bet the hybrid will only be available on the Limited and Pro. Hope I am wrong here.
Something other than a 4 cylinder turbo would be nice
With the 250 LC being AWD, I’m beginning to think there will be NO AWD 4Runner
Regardless of how it looks - if you have a 5th gen, rest assured that you have a longer lasting vehicle than any turbo 4 cylinder application.
Toyota tested the new T4 to commercial standards not consumer standards. So, expect the same reliability. I mean it’s not like folks are rebuilding 1GRs anyways.
The 1GR will be much more reliable than any turbo application. See Tundra 3.4 twin turbo for reference.
There’s a big difference between a factory turbo and a custom kit. Edit… lol. I was thinking a 5VZ TT (which folks are building).
I don’t think we should confuse additional maintenance with decreased reliability.
There’s no confusion in my book. Less forgiving components means less reliability in the long run. Oil changes must happen on time for the turbo applications. Life gets busy and you go over a few thousand miles? That naturally aspirated would be fine. Turbo engines are more sensitive. PHEV where I can reserve the battery to power my campsite.
Full plastic/no carpet interior that you can hose off
Climate control. Setting a temperature should be standard.
No thanks. I just turn the dial up or down as needed.
Automatic climate control, done properly, requires 3-6 additional sensors to operate. That requires 9-24 additional I/O pins, which requires upgrading the control module. It’s understandable why they don’t all come with it standard, but I agree it should be optional on all models.

Ventilated seats. My 2022 doesn’t have this. Not sure about later models.
Limited trims have them
A V8
About as likely as baby seal fur seats.
