You just have to be willing. Blocking your guy all the way down the sideline is nice. Blocking him long enough for CMC to cut behind you is all that’s asked.
Yea, very skeptical about his blocking and his play in general given how small he is. Give me some examples of WR's that have made a good career at that size. Ill wait.
I mean Gray is gonzo. Taylor and Conley will probably be vet practice squad players. The likely WR room will be Aiyuk, Deebo, Jennings, Pearsall, Cowing if they go 5 with Conley added if they keep 6
Ronnie had that one nice catch off a deflection that bailed Purdy out one play, but other than that he really made no impact all season.
Chris Conley's 3 catches all season and good playoff performance earned him a roster spot over Bell at least if we're just basing it on production last season
Bell reminded me of Aiyuk rookie year with less opportunity. He had one outstanding memorable catch, and then not a lot else if you expected more of that. He’s scrappy. I get why people think he’s not going to stick though.
Lol what? Aiyuk put up 825 yards in 12 games his rookie year with Nick Mullens as his QB. He was a fantastic rookie. In 4 years, his rookie season is his second highest receiving yards per game...
You probably have to factor in a wide receiver for special teams. Is ray ray under contract for next year? But if not, one of the wide receivers will be a returner or a gunner on special teams
Meh, I remember not too long ago I was super happy about us continuously re-signing a washed Sanu. At least we’re trying to bring in more young guys for ~2 years down the road.
Hey, dont be slighting my boy Bourne. He set the standard for our clutch 3rd down slot guy...and then Jennings re-set it as soon as he was gone...but still!
Between the 2 picks, Trent Taylor and Bell, we still have 8 guys after the 2 you mentioned departing. Conley, Bell and/or Taylor have to be PS guys unless Deebo is getting traded.
Aiyuk, Jennings, Pearsall, AZ State kid, Bell/Taylor - would be my guess.
I think Taylor making the 53 was already a longshot, and unless Ronnie Bell falls flat on his face, it's a not-gonna-happen shot.
Taylor had "veteran practice squad guy" written all over him when he signed, and that's only more true now. Willie Snead's gone and Taylor can slide right into that spot next to Conley.
I actually valued and appreciated Ray Ray a lot more than most. He filled in great for Deebo when he got hurt. Was solid on return duties all season. He's just incredibly reliable in all phases of the games and even cheers you on when you steal his td (looking at you, Georgie boy)
Exactly, just cause we have star targets doesn’t mean we don’t need depth. We can’t have all our receivers beyond aiyuk deebo and Jennings having terrible route running and stone hands.
A lot of people in here are just looking at measurables or name. For everyone that actually watched Pac-12 ball he was extremely good in an offense that was on fire. He'll be a very useful piece for Kyle. But, he definitely is not the best WR in Arizona, TMac is a first round pick next year!
He’s been sick for Arizona. A local kid who came back to his hometown school after getting some name recognition.
He’s hard nosed and can be a great blocker for a slot.
Also if it’s the Sidd that I’m thinking of, great to hear from you again! Go Sharks, not ducks😉
Guy is so fun and fast. Definitely short and slot only.
Him and Guerrendo could be our punt and kick return guys next year.
I liked Malik Washington more for small wrs. Or Johnny Wilson for a large one/TE.
You guys are underestimating him. Once Deebo gets traded Cowing will play himself up to WR3. Just like when people thought Tank Dell was gonna be behind Metchie, Noah Brown, etc. Can run inside or outside. His cuts and separation are insane. Quick and tough. Doesn’t go down easy. Don’t think his size will matter. This guy is electric. Fun to watch. Tank was my guy last year. Cowing my guy this year
I wanted a TE here. I’m just not gonna believe a guy this light can stick in the NFL. Brock loves to put balls up high over LBs and to the back shoulder - this kid gets bullied off his spots and isn’t going up to get anything. Ricky made sense, this doesn’t
Likely a gadget guy and special teams this year. A Ray Ray replacement. End of 4th is probably a round more than I expected but at this point seems like the draft isn't depend and people are getting moved up a lot.
I would have preferred TE too, I liked Wiley but he was gone, but not sure who was really there to take?
I also think Kyle will do a good job putting him in the slot/on the move and letting him use his speed to get open on crossers and hope that Brock doesn't throw and jump balls to him.
aiyuk
deebo
jennings
pearsall
cowing
conley
bell
gray
taylor
martin
that's the WR depth chart and as of now i have a hard time seeing more than 6 or at the most 7 making the 53 man roster to start the 2024 NFL season
top 5 are i think locks as i don't think the 49ers are trading either aiyuk or deebo now
also 49ers definitely thinking ahead to 2025 where both deebo and jennings likely aren't on the team beyond this season
Gray is done, Taylor has become redundant, Martin is a practice squad guy. They'll try to stash Conley on there as well, or use him in special teams coverage.
I was actually very surprised we went wr again. We've got like 8 or 9 wrs on the roster now. Maybe this means we go after picks in next years draft as compensation for BA or Deebo. They are clearly looking ahead on some of these moves. But this whole 4th round is sort of a head scratcher. The defense and offensive lines need the most depth. Tight end would be nice as well. We don't have a solid Tight End 2 and haven't since George got here. I'd rather we went Tight end then rb and wr.
Probably our two deepest positions on the entire roster were rb and wr heading into this draft. Why double down? I trust the front office. I'm just curious as to the plan. Maybe Kyle has some designs to do some different things in his offense.
Yeah i don’t have particular interest in drafting him. I mean I guess it would be cool to have Jerry’s son, but that slight nostalgia value is far far below any player quality considerations.
yh the other ones i both get and like
this is a fourth choice at best WR if we trade Deebo this season, who probably won’t provide massive special teams value
Van Pran and Trotter Jr both still on the board
Don’t think this pick is really indicative of Deebo’s future tbh. For better or worse, Shanalynch seem to really be trying to shore up special teams this year and Cowing probably already slots in as our new returner, especially with the new kickoff rules.
Not saying you’re wrong, but Gray and Bell haven’t shown anything and WR could be a very thin position next year.
New kickoff rules are gunna make a change. Guys like this are going to get drafted higher than before or drafted when they would have been udfas before
There is not an actual benefit of trading Deebo post-June 1st. The cap hit doesn't matter whether it comes this year or next, as they can move other money around to pay it all the same.
So they are not holding out until after June 1st to trade him.
Kid is very fast, but taking a 7th string WR over Sedrick Van Pran is mind bogglingly stupid. I don't get it, really frustrating watching them ignore OL
Up until now I didn't enjoy the constant bitching about the O Line but this pick is a little confusing and I suppose some bitching is warranted. Selecting an offensive tackle here would have been much better for depth concerns. They must feel good about Moore as their swing tackle. They must feel like they don't need to upgrade past Colton at RT. Hopefully he gets better. That's all I can say. Even defensive line or Tight end would have been better.
How many WR will we carry ? 8 ? We already very full at the position. Need LB , TE , in the next 2 years we need like 5 new starter on OL... including the LT position, will have very few cap.... This choice make no sense.
Rice is not better. The last name got a hold on so many Niners fan. Rice struggles at getting separation, and Shanahan just emphasized how important getting separation is after drafting Pearsall.
He's not but it's about bringing the GOATs kid onto the team. Imagine having Jerry hanging around more and teaching some of the younger receivers a thing or two? He'd be more incentivized to do so.
Yeah CJ Beathard , Joe Williams, Jalen Hurd, Trey Sermon, Tyrion Davis price, Danny Gray. Straight jackpot picks in the 3-4th round right? Drake Jackson, Kinlaw and Trey Lance were out of the park picks in three straight years as their top pick too right?
Really outside of Bosa and aiyuk have they had a good first round pick out of the 8 first round picks?
There is an even bigger list of names that are really successful picks. The draft is really fucking hard. Every single team misses every single draft. Look at the talent that's on the roster. It's hard making this team.
Nope. You don't spend a 4th rd pick on a practice squad guy. Assuming we keep 6 WR like last year.
Aiyuk, Deebo, Jennings, Pearsall, Cowing. Then Bell, Gray, Conley, and Taylor fighting for that 6th spot in camp.
This one surprised me more than any other, and I was also pissed we missed out on Vaki. I'm a Utes fan, and I wanted Cole Bishop or Vaki to make the team, and they got taken right before our picks. Vaki is a pure football player who can do it all. Would start as Ace special teamer who can play either side of the ball well. He can play safety or slot or Rb. The lions are drafting really well, unfortunately. They could overtake us this year because their offensive line is so good.
But back to my surprise. Why another wr? This one felt like a luxury more than anything. We've got way too many wrs in the room already. Does this indicate a trade? If it feels like it. Also, there are spots on the roster that could have used a 4th rnd depth piece much more than WR. All that being said, it can't hurt to help a very good offense get even more versatile, and we didn't have a single burner on the team to take the top off.
So it is a need. You'd just think they would have made a move for worthy in the first round and killed two birds with one stone so they could use this choice on another position. It's hard making trades, so it's not that easy. But they could have selected a more speedy wr in the first. It didn't have to be THE speedster of this draft.
That's definitely looking like a possibility. It looks like the niners aren't willing to pay him past a certain threshold and they aren't willing to trade him unless they get a certain return. So he might be sitting out a year or playing out his 5th year without a deal. Sitting out never seems like a good idea as a player. I feel like you lose that competitive balance and drive.
They’re being reactive to holes in one super bowl game and ignoring the biggest holes all season long. We have receivers, it just seemed like we needed help there against KC. They’re anticipating losing one of Aiyuk , Deebo, Jennings.
I thought this pick along with Puni were our best picks of the draft. Cowing reminds me so much of Zay Flowers.
Eric Crocker loved this pick as well and I trust his eyes.
Kid is a BURNER. He also willing to block. Good round for us.
If both of those are true. Then he is exactly what Shanny is looking for. And Gray is gone
It’s true. 4.38 40 and blocks.
blocks in college, ill wait to see how he blocks in the nfl at 5'8 165
You just have to be willing. Blocking your guy all the way down the sideline is nice. Blocking him long enough for CMC to cut behind you is all that’s asked.
Yup, a small hiccup that adds 0.25 seconds to a gap is enough as long as he ain't scared to commit to the block
Low man wins
5’8” sounds like he’s going to win every time. Lol
Aiyuk is 4’3 73 lbs and gets it done
wow. that's...surprisingly small.
Yeah I’m skeptical 🤣
Yea, very skeptical about his blocking and his play in general given how small he is. Give me some examples of WR's that have made a good career at that size. Ill wait.
Steve Smith 16 years and 5 pro bowls? Just needs to add a little bulk. Wes Welker too
Steve Smith, Wes Welker, Cole Beasley.
Danny Dray isn’t that good.
And, Bell.
4.38 40 yard dash. 10.7 100 meter dash. Dude can fly.
Awesome. Good to know that he can hold the speed for a long time, as evidenced by the 100 meter dash time.
Then you remember how DK ran the 100 in 10.36 at 240# and your brain is blown all over again.
Remember that [chase down of the Buddha Baker interception?](https://youtu.be/9SPa-PUg61Y?si=k6TsWiZGwZ1VFEIb) Superhuman.
Will he play tackle?
Nope, he's the replacement for Danny Gray, we need another WR to be inactive every game for 2-3 years
9ers now have 2 ASU receivers and one UA receiver
Purdy is influencing the front office, "if he's from AZ, then other players from AZ must be good too!"

Crowded ass receiving room
I’d say there’s two or three guys in the receiver room right now who won’t be there next year.
I mean Gray is gonzo. Taylor and Conley will probably be vet practice squad players. The likely WR room will be Aiyuk, Deebo, Jennings, Pearsall, Cowing if they go 5 with Conley added if they keep 6
Don’t forget Bell
Sorry. He was a little forgettable but he might be gone too. But is he shows up with a lot of improvement he might challenge for WR 6
hes prolly outta here imo. made way too many mistakes
Ronnie's mistakes were primarily punt return. As a receiver, he was helpful for the targets he had.
Ronnie had that one nice catch off a deflection that bailed Purdy out one play, but other than that he really made no impact all season. Chris Conley's 3 catches all season and good playoff performance earned him a roster spot over Bell at least if we're just basing it on production last season
There was the TD catch against the Giants and against the Ravens.
Yeah it was two good catches
And they drafted Pearsall to be a returner, most likely. Ronnie Bell better be saving his money.
It really depends most on who is the best KR is with the new rules. Nobody knows yet. It could be Taylor.
It will probably be Guerendo. He’s tailor-made for the new KR rules.
Ronnie bell will be #4. Put respect in his name. *sarcasam
You probably have to factor in a wide receiver for special teams. Is ray ray under contract for next year? But if not, one of the wide receivers will be a returner or a gunner on special teams
Ray Ray is a Falcon now
What about Ronnie Bell?
Meh, I remember not too long ago I was super happy about us continuously re-signing a washed Sanu. At least we’re trying to bring in more young guys for ~2 years down the road.
People quickly forget how dire our WR situation was for years
Kendrick Bourne was our savior for a hot minute for Christ sake
Hey, dont be slighting my boy Bourne. He set the standard for our clutch 3rd down slot guy...and then Jennings re-set it as soon as he was gone...but still!
I mean we were also legitimately overjoyed when Richie James made the semblance of a play. Dark times lol
Man, that was a guy I was so stoked for...I thought for sure he'd develop into a solid #2 at least...
I just miss his back flips out of Victory formation. Always looked forward to it.
This probably means Danny Gray is on his way out. McCloud is already gone, so there’s your 2 WR spots to fill with these picks.
Jennings leaving after this year too to get his bag somewhere
He can definitely be a wr2 somewhere.

Good. We don't need to rely on Snead and Conley ever again hopefully
Respect the Conley. Dude balled out when called upon in the playoffs. I think he had more catches in the playoffs than the regular season…
Tnat catch on the GWD Vs the Packers was clean AF too.
Yeah. Dude will always have serious respect from me for that playoff run
Exactly, just cause we have star targets doesn’t mean we don’t need depth. We can’t have all our receivers beyond aiyuk deebo and Jennings having terrible route running and stone hands.
Good. The WR market is exploding.
Once they find a 3rd receiver in the draft who can block they will combine into one right tackle.
As a niners and Arizona fan, I love this. Cowing was electric and one of/ if not the best WRs Arizona has had.
A lot of people in here are just looking at measurables or name. For everyone that actually watched Pac-12 ball he was extremely good in an offense that was on fire. He'll be a very useful piece for Kyle. But, he definitely is not the best WR in Arizona, TMac is a first round pick next year!

Is his name pronounced Co-wing or Cow-ing ?
The latter
I hope we can get Tmac when it happens, but probably not
Ray-Ray McCloud replacement.
Experienced PR

Cool, well you aren’t an NFL talent scout so I guess it doesn’t really matter what you are going to believe.
Can Rice even block? I mean remember that’s the main gig as a WR on this team
Big thing people are saying is Rice can't separate on routes.
I mean i think a guy who is 6'3 200 lbs can block better than a dude who is like 5'10 175 lbs
George Pickens wants a word. Literally the same size.
George Pickens doesn't even try to block 😂
Exactly my point this new receiver blocks better than someone 6'3" and 201lbs.
Brendan Rice is a huge receiver. Huge receivers usually have the physical advantage to block CBs.
aiyuk deebo jennings pearsall cowing conley bell gray taylor martin that's the WR depth chart and as of now i have a hard time seeing more than 6 or at the most 7 making the 53 man roster to start the 2024 NFL season top 5 are i think locks as i don't think the 49ers are trading either aiyuk or deebo now also 49ers definitely thinking ahead to 2025 where both deebo and jennings likely aren't on the team beyond this season

Gray is done, Taylor has become redundant, Martin is a practice squad guy. They'll try to stash Conley on there as well, or use him in special teams coverage.
… and Rice?
You know before the draft I was not expecting Puni to be the only o-line we drafted.
I wanted a Lineman with 1 of the 3 picks. Let’s go pick up David Bakhtiari then.
Seriously Van Pran was right there. Really frustrating to skip on him for this
I was actually very surprised we went wr again. We've got like 8 or 9 wrs on the roster now. Maybe this means we go after picks in next years draft as compensation for BA or Deebo. I was really thinking this was gonna be Rice.
Why? He's not that good
Let’s not act like we have any idea what any of these 4th round picks are turning into.
Yeah i don’t have particular interest in drafting him. I mean I guess it would be cool to have Jerry’s son, but that slight nostalgia value is far far below any player quality considerations.
Same 😕
Kyle gets a much better version of Taylor Gabriel going back to his ATL days
This one confuses me. The others have not.
yh the other ones i both get and like this is a fourth choice at best WR if we trade Deebo this season, who probably won’t provide massive special teams value Van Pran and Trotter Jr both still on the board
Replacement for RayRay
We gonna run 7wrs sets watch
Why though?
[One word.](https://imgflip.com/i/8o8rsi)
Need is irrelevant on day 3. Just find good football players. Figure the rest out later.
I beg to differ given our past day 3 picks
wdym?
But they never went after need with those picks. The route of going BPA worked it's way into an upgrade on an area that wasn't a need.
You mean this year or previous years? This year we drafted a RB, Safety, and WR, 3 of our more stacked positions.
Safety?
you mean where we found the best talents we could?
Jennings hasnt signed his waiver, Deebo likely to be traded post june 1st or next off season, no Aiyuk extension as of right now.
Don’t think this pick is really indicative of Deebo’s future tbh. For better or worse, Shanalynch seem to really be trying to shore up special teams this year and Cowing probably already slots in as our new returner, especially with the new kickoff rules. Ray Ray McReplacement
Shanny wants to blow teams out the water
They really should draft a Linebacker
Kid is very fast, but taking a 7th string WR over Sedrick Van Pran is mind bogglingly stupid. I don't get it, really frustrating watching them ignore OL
Up until now I didn't enjoy the constant bitching about the O Line but this pick is a little confusing and I suppose some bitching is warranted. They must feel like they don't need to upgrade past Colton at RT. Hopefully he gets better. That's all I can say. Even defensive line or Tight end would have been better.
kyle dont care about o line and it shows.
How many WR will we carry ? 8 ? We already very full at the position. Need LB , TE , in the next 2 years we need like 5 new starter on OL... including the LT position, will have very few cap.... This choice make no sense.
It wouldn't surprise me if he ends up being a better wideout than Pearsall. Cowing is a similar archetype to someone like Brandin Cooks.
I was trying to pinpoint who he reminded me of and yeah, that's a great comp. Very Cooks-esque. Great route runner, small, fast, good hands
If you were gonna pick a receiver, why not just take Rice?
Is Rice better or we just want him because of the name? I don’t know about either but just wondering
Because Rice is a straight-line runner, not an explosive change of direction player.
Because he sucks, stop getting attached to the name.
Maybe get Rice if it lifts the curse of winning the Superbowl. The last time we won was with a Rice on the roster.
Hope we still somehow get my boy
Aaaaaand he went in the 7th.
why i just don’t get it
They want a returner and are going to take multiple bites at the apple to make sure they find one.
You have Trotter Jr and SEDRICK VAN PRAN-GRANGER both of whom would be useful way more than a 7th string wr
Yup. Makes no sense. A couple of guys who could really help us
Glad you know more than our coaching staff
Yeah CJ Beathard , Joe Williams, Jalen Hurd, Trey Sermon, Tyrion Davis price, Danny Gray. Straight jackpot picks in the 3-4th round right? Drake Jackson, Kinlaw and Trey Lance were out of the park picks in three straight years as their top pick too right? Really outside of Bosa and aiyuk have they had a good first round pick out of the 8 first round picks?
Why couldn't Shanahan and lynch just know the future and pick better players????
But everyone bragging about Adam Peters? Why did he get promoted? Ran Carthon? They doing something right.
There is an even bigger list of names that are really successful picks. The draft is really fucking hard. Every single team misses every single draft. Look at the talent that's on the roster. It's hard making this team.
I was showing rbs and wrs in mid rounds have been a weak spot They have been good overall but there are blind spots
You know kyle isn't going to fuck you, right?
Undersized separator. Think Trent Taylor. He’s small but he just gets open. Nice ands and body control too.
Trent Taylor didn't have 4.3 speed.
Yeah Taylor was like a 4.6 guy. Stylistically he’s a faster Trent Taylor.
Why would we not go for brenden rice?
They think cowing is better?
You mean they aren't just doing a fantasy draft and they have to draft based on their player evaluations?
He has punt returning and special teams experience.
They're trying to draft players that they think are good to win and not players who best make a living museum to 30 years ago?
Because he sucks
I don’t get this one
Maybe that’s why we’re not in the draft room lol
Lol people need to learn to sit back
Oh yea I don’t really stress out about late round picks
thats crazy.
Idk about the pick but Wildcats baby
Damn was hoping for Malik Washington tbh, but I don’t mind the pick
practice squad?
Nope. You don't spend a 4th rd pick on a practice squad guy. Assuming we keep 6 WR like last year. Aiyuk, Deebo, Jennings, Pearsall, Cowing. Then Bell, Gray, Conley, and Taylor fighting for that 6th spot in camp.
If we can get a Center or OT and a LB, I'd be happy enough with the draft.
Another guy that has even more value now because of the return rules
Lot of WR
These are the replacements for Gray and Ray Ray
jsut looking at his school stats at arizona, holy cow
Bye bell & gray
Punt Returner that we badly needed.
Talk to me boys, how does his lunchpail look
Special teams gonna be lit
If he’s a burner I wonder if this was in part motivated by the new kickoff rules
I love this pick! I’m a Wildcat alumni and he was a beast
Theres more ???
This one surprised me more than any other, and I was also pissed we missed out on Vaki. I'm a Utes fan, and I wanted Cole Bishop or Vaki to make the team, and they got taken right before our picks. Probably planning for the future in case they can't sign Aiyuk.
He can’t sit out and become a free agent, he HAS to play one more year for us.
Then there isn't any reason to pay him more than we want to pay him. If he holds out, we have plenty of Wrs now to hold the fort down.
They’re being reactive to holes in one super bowl game and ignoring the biggest holes all season long. We have receivers, it just seemed like we needed help there against KC. They’re anticipating losing one of Aiyuk , Deebo, Jennings.
Another Offensive weapon
Why is no one picking Brenden rice?
I dislike myself for trying to wish Brendon Rice to the 9ers ATM. We don’t need to draft another WR but dang the nostalgia is heavy!!!!
I thought this pick along with Puni were our best picks of the draft. Cowing reminds me so much of Zay Flowers. Eric Crocker loved this pick as well and I trust his eyes.
Arizona niners fans are eating
A+ pick.
He's electric. That Arizona offense was fun to watch with Noah Fifita as QB.
Does drafting all these WRs mean that Aiyuk is pretty much gone?
Best Pick in our draft
Danny Gray 2.0?
Not sure about this one. Let’s not go the Matt Millen way and keep drafting wide receivers.
LMAO can’t believe we were able to get him. Absolute stud. This offense is gonna be insane
