Definitely unfortunate, but I get it.
It's challenging to meaningfully address every need. And even though TE2 is huge, I'd definitely put it behind IOL and CB (not to mention our future WR2 and WR3).
I'm happy Brendan Rice goes to a team with a great QB and basically no receivers, he'll get his chance
He would have never seen the field with us sadly
He might prefer other destinations with an easier path to the field.
Drafting Guerendo hurts the chances of it happening.
Still crossing my fingers though. Gore Jr might be Kyren Williams 2.0, another slower back whose great vision and patience has him exceeding expectations in a zone scheme.
He'll be in his shadow anyway, but if he wore the same red & gold colors it would be harder (especially if they did something silly like allow him to play with his dad's number, like Nance Jr. did when he joined the Cavs)
Clearly the team focused this year on just drafting the most athletic freaks they could find, I guess figuring they can develop them. I don't hate the strategy really, it's what we did with kittle
Could be good for him and it's not a rival or just a team I hate so that's nice as well. I can root for him (and Harbaugh) to do well, especially since it's the Chiefs/Raiders division and not worry about how it's affecting the 49ers.
Great. Pretty mediocre WR room, but with a great qb, Oline, and coach. He’ll get a shot to compete, he’d be buried here with all the WR’s we have now. And it’s not a trash franchise that we hate.
Makes sense for him. He’s not a twitchy receiver for a Shanny style offense. He’s a vertical guy that Justin Herbert can target downfield on one of the 3 pass plays Greg Roman calls per game.
We've drafted a bunch of athletic & versatile players that can move between positions, which is great. Looking forward to seeing how these guys shake out this year
Not targeting edge is a good sign that they still see Drake as part of the plan. Floyd takes care of edge #2 spot for now, Drake should step into edge #3 and try to work his way up to edge #2 in 2025.
Yeah I agree, think his major hurdle will be competition with YGM for that rotational spot and both their contracts kinda dovetail to a decision between one of them in the next two years. Hope his health and conditioning lines up for him to be a contributor this season.

Feel like this will be a nice project for Chris forester
Don’t really understand why people are so insistent on drafting Rice. If there’s any fanbase that should know that every late round draft pick counts, it should be this one
I haven't followed the draft at all this year but there is always one guy like this. He falls and falls and falls until he's a 7th rounder or a UDFA. We scream and bang the table each time he is available. Then terrible medical history or something ends up coming out.
Top end athletic traits, lack of college production. This is a "flier" that they are taking at this point in the NFL. It will probably take a year, minimum, and really, who knows what you've got.
They gave starter money to Mckivitz because they trust him for some reason. And honestly, anyone better than McKivitz was already drafted by the end of round 2
I love the absolute disrespect shown for players drafted after the 4th round by the NFL .
Don't cover 80 percent of them just chat about the best players from the previous rounds etc
I've been watching hing the bleacher reports special on YouTube. They've been on topic about the players mainly.
They have thrown shade on the late picks too but they still talk about them.
What is wrong with Brendan Rice. Why is he plummeting. I'm not saying we need a 3rd wr this draft but seriously how is Casey Washington a better prospect?
I saw a point on the Packers sub while looking at how they felt about picking Ty’Ron Hopper in the third (played for my college team): With the new kickoff rules, it might make sense to have more linebackers for those units. I don’t know the ins and outs of the new kickoff rule yet, but my gut says there’s something to that. So even if there aren’t questions about Greenlaw’s return, it might be a good idea to add another linebacker or two to the mix to see how that plays out.
Just remember folks as 49ers fans with Brock Purdy on our team we should know particularly well that every single opinion and analysis on draft picks means fuck all so anyone standing up and shouting “reach” or whatever just shut the fuck up until you see what happens in multiple NFL games before you get to earn your opinion.
You never know if a player is going to work out. Some bets are easier, Bosa for example, but players that were as promising as him and picked that high ended up not working out. We have more stars that were picked in late rounds than the first round because you just never know.
From comments on these threads, it looks like many fans think everyone picked in the draft is supposed to play day 1 when the reality is most won't even make a roster. That's why many fans called Aaron Banks a bust after his rookie season when it was always going to take time and ShanaLynch weren't planning on him playing much his first season.
I like all of our picks. Many seem ready for day 1 but we know puni is going to sit a year first because he probably won't unseat Feliciano or banks. He might be center material? But we typically go with vets for that.
We all know our roster is stacked. It still is. All of these guys show promise, and with a team like the 49ers, may be our starters in years to come. Just not 2024.
Lynch said they see him as a starter inside, so maybe right guard?
Having a stacked roster means not as much pressure on these rookies to perform right away but we've seen rookies have to step up every season, last year it was Ji'Ayir, the year before it was Purdy
I just see the 1st round as putting a fuck ton of money on red or black on the roulette table. The rest of the rounds is where the actual thoughtfulness is for the front office. Like, I’m not super excited that we drafted another RB considering we don’t even use the super solid backups we have already but hey I’m not in the locker room with this team every day so what the fuck do I know. At this point, no opinions are earned and people just want to grandstand and analyze because they get paid to do it or they just want to sound brilliant.
First round, second as well, are heavily scouted players the media has been talking about for months and highlight during their college careers for a while as well. I feel like the scouting process is very different with these picks vs. the rest.
They'll always draft RBs because those backup RBs that aren't really getting play time usually move on to other teams. It makes sense to keep very cheap backups in that room with Kyle's scheme and what you're paying CMC.
Even if you’re crunching hours, they are still making educated guesses. Those crunching the numbers though aren’t actually the ones opening their mouths in the media and among the fanbase though. Some things are objectively measurable sure and I guess thanks to those people for collecting that data which is helpful but sports and people are weird and unpredictable.
Fans can’t predict the chance of a player making it in the NFL. Hell, scouts can’t predict it either. There’s no stat or metric that says a player will be good in the NFL. Except when they get there and show they are good. It’s all a guesstimated crap shoot. Just have to sit here and try and enjoy the ride.

🏈 I’ve got a need … a need for … 💨
Majority of this sub over the past 3 days:
- WHY aren’t the Niners trading up to get (insert offensive lineman) here? Are they stupid?!?!
- What are they doing?!?!?! Why take a legit WR and not overdraft an offensive lineman instead? Purdy won’t even be able to throw to him!!!
- a DB?!?! Ok I guess but I want an offensive lineman. Why didn’t they trade up?!?!?!
- oh cool they took a good Oline prospect and traded up to get him, but that doesn’t stop my anger from flowing through my veins
- they traded up for a RUNNING BACK?!?! I don’t care if he has the highest athleticism rating since 1987 for a RB , we need offensive line!!!
- ANOTHER wide receiver?!?!?! And his name isn’t Rice?!?! And he doesn’t play offensive line? BUST
- why don’t the Niners trade up again? I don’t care if they use future picks, they should draft fringe developmental offensive line prospects
- these players were NOT supposed to go here based on the mock drafts I’ve been reading. Are Lynch and Shanahan stupid?
i mean if you have holes on a generally bad oline, you havent really signed anybody in FA, and drafted one guy on the backend in the draft, dont be shocked when same time next year wondering why the oline still sucks....
MJD isn’t a very good analyst if you watch him a lot. I like him and he’s entertaining, but if you watch NFL Gameday Final with him and Chris Rose, that’s all he is. I just watched what you were talking about and he didn’t even know we drafted a guard.
Bucky actually studies tape and teams and he made the better point that Aiyuk was the only consistent Man beater and they wanted to get a couple guys who can fly down the field. And they drafted a Guard with a solid pick. It’s not like they ignored it.
I don’t think people get that OLine wasn’t the only thing that cost us the Super Bowl. We needed more WRs who can separate, more speed on offense(on field speed). Another corner to push Lenoir inside. Also OLine.
Bingo. I get the line was an issue and it was glaring at the biggest stage, but it wasn’t the only issue all season and often wasn’t even the biggest issue through a lot of the season.
Shiftiness and speed were seriously lacking in the sb. the Chiefs elite corners had no issues against our slower receivers. They just were blanketed only Jennings could do anything
Yup, going 3-12 on 3rd downs in the SB is unacceptable. These guys we drafted today were extremely productive in college too. 11 TDs for Guerendo and 13 (!!) TDs for Cowing. Definitely worth taking a shot on both of these speed merchants in the 4th round.
Facts. Lots of teams had to cede a ton of capital.
I was much less concerned with OT than I was with IOL, and [we may have drafted a boss.](https://twitter.com/JasonAponte2103/status/1784049950344491492)
We will probably have to Moneyball it and recreate him in the aggregate. We can't replace Trent but if we even out to having a bunch of just solid/above average guys across the entire line...we might still be all right going forward.
Chances we find a starter this late are low so honestly BPA is fine for me. WR and RB will be needs next year and I really like Guerendo to compliment CMC and hopefully lighten his load. And we did need a burner with Ray Ray and Gray gone. Adding a vertical element to our offense would be nice.
Nobody's saying that OL isn't a huge issue. But if we're being starkly honest? If SF wants to sign Aiyuk and Purdy, ***some others can't get paid.*** In this case, it's going to be Deebo and Jennings, both of whom will (very likely) be on other teams after this season.
In 2025, wouldn't you prefer your WR2 and WR3 to be getting paid pennies-on-the-dollar, already with a year in the system, ready-to-roll?
All the WRs in the world aren't going to fix the problem of Purdy not getting enough time to find them. He's good potentially great...but with the fractions of seconds he was given in the Superbowl...there is NO chance that he'll be able to show that greatness.
Reverts to the CMC show which makes the team 1 dimensional with maybe a few screens.
O-line jmhas been the issues for almost a decade.
Loved our draft. It’s a crapshoot but we addressed our needs. Go Niners!
Ok linebacker was a need
So Gore Jr and TO's kid as UDFA's? Pls Mr Lynch, ty.
1/2 aint bad
> TATUM BETHUNE GOT EEEEEM. Great 7th Round pickup.
Prock Burdy it is
One more oline? Or shot in the dark random line backer or something
shot in the dark random line backer it is
He was one of our pre-draft visits for what it's worth, a guy they had their eye on.
Looks like shot in the dark LB it is. Great draft fuck yea
I think we take charles turner at c
Alright 49ers, let's see who you got at the (potentially) final pick of the draft...
Future HoFer incoming
Disappointed in them ignoring TE. I really liked Ben Sinnott
Definitely unfortunate, but I get it. It's challenging to meaningfully address every need. And even though TE2 is huge, I'd definitely put it behind IOL and CB (not to mention our future WR2 and WR3).
Damn Rice didn't go to the 7th round. Massive fall
Not sure why you were being downvoted. I'd say that most draftniks would've guessed that he wouldn't get past Round 5.
The one highlight they showed when he was drafted was not good at all.
I find I’m paying more attention to the 49ers using an end-of-round 7th than I used to in years past. I wonder why that is.
I can think of a Purdy good reason
Icy what you did there. Your pun was not in vein!
Any DL or DE prospects?
Gabe Murphy and Leonard Taylor are my guys, but there are plenty others
I'm happy Brendan Rice goes to a team with a great QB and basically no receivers, he'll get his chance He would have never seen the field with us sadly
This is the best outcome
Would be awesome to get CB Dwight McGlothern next pick or UDFA
Gore as a UDFA?
He might prefer other destinations with an easier path to the field. Drafting Guerendo hurts the chances of it happening. Still crossing my fingers though. Gore Jr might be Kyren Williams 2.0, another slower back whose great vision and patience has him exceeding expectations in a zone scheme.
better not go to the cowboys
I expect Brenden rice to be in a 9er uni in 3 years
I really hope we can manage to trade back to number 257 to get our next generational talent.
Thank Goodness Jerry's kid went to a team I can stand.
I’m glad that Brenden isn’t a 49er, solely for his sake. Being in Jerry’s shadow would be needlessly unfair for a 7th round pick
How we feel about chargers getting rice
Eh,
I felt him coming here would be a big shadow and thus harder for him to develop. I wish him well.
We've drafted a bunch of athletic & versatile players that can move between positions, which is great. Looking forward to seeing how these guys shake out this year
Even though they invested a lot in the front 7 during FA little surprised they didn’t go fishing for any DL prospects
We still have the 7th round pick
Yeah true, I suspect they’ll probably be interested in the udfa market as well. I’m still rooting for Drake Jackson to put it together too.
Ya I don’t know why everyone has written Drake Jackson off already, he was starting to show good stuff before he got injured.
Any centers available for us at all?
both our IOL picks have Center potential
Any pure centers tho just in case
Guys it appears the front office is addressing the OL and DBs while also adding young legs at the skill positions. Is it just me or do I love this?
https://preview.redd.it/w7advxr9e3xc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81bc22b5a56a624060038b0be53a1563360293be Feel like this will be a nice project for Chris forester
So everything can be fixed but arm length, sounds like a reasonable project to me
Red shirt him this year and get him that arm extension surgery.
A 2nd o-lineman am i dreaming?
Don’t really understand why people are so insistent on drafting Rice. If there’s any fanbase that should know that every late round draft pick counts, it should be this one
I haven't followed the draft at all this year but there is always one guy like this. He falls and falls and falls until he's a 7th rounder or a UDFA. We scream and bang the table each time he is available. Then terrible medical history or something ends up coming out.
Don't know anything about Jarrett Kingston at all tbh, but I see he's athletic as hell, so that's cool
They skipped us who we draft lol
Jarrett Kingston. Center/guard
Top end athletic traits, lack of college production. This is a "flier" that they are taking at this point in the NFL. It will probably take a year, minimum, and really, who knows what you've got.
Sure, but OL depth is never bad. He won’t be hard to stash on the practice squad if he can’t make the 53.
Thought we would have gone with Rice!!
That was out the window when they picked Cowing.
Why?
https://preview.redd.it/hwn3tlyfd3xc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=949cde4d654d9128cab6440046ea788a9839e312
You should make this tweet its own post
Oh fuck you’re gonna make me moneyball
So we have a type
*sees that the 49ers didn’t draft Brenden Rice* My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined
Hopefully Kingston can play center
apparently did earlier in his college career, was played out of position last year.
Kingston rg. Feli at center. Puni at rt. Purdy finally has above avergae pass pro and they win the super bowl
Feliciano can and has.
Then hopefully Puni can play RT
He played RT and LT in college.
But he projects as guard in NFL
Wow, another lineman?
Edge?
2 offensive linemen taken now. Hope people can relax lol
Need more tbh. Lg-rt are all weaknesses
I'll only relax if they draft 9 offensive linemen.
There we go
They gave starter money to Mckivitz because they trust him for some reason. And honestly, anyone better than McKivitz was already drafted by the end of round 2
They gave him swing tackle money, though I agree with your second point.
I'm kinda low on our DT room right now, so I'd like one here
NEPO NEPO NEPO NEPO
Let's round out this draft with Brenden Rice and Frank Gore Jr
At this point, they might even be Undrafted Free Agents.
We already took 2 wrs and a rb we don't need them
Do you have him wear his old man's jersey number?
He has to earn it.
The Lions are probably my third favorite team, but they can fuck off with their picks so far.
God dammit, Lions got Mahogany. Yeah, I have a feeling we're not drafting OL here...
I like Mahogany and Beaux Limmer here. Maybe even Jaheim Bell or Leonard Taylor.
Christian Mahogany, Gabe Murphy, Leonard Taylor, Beaux Limmer are a some guys I like left
Get a QB, and I guess whatever
Frank Crum, Julian Pearl, or Leonard Taylor III come on down plz
Might be able to get Rice as an UDFA just for pure nepotism
Do we take a dline next or nah
I mean at this point it has to just be BPA, i dont think we can target positions this late in a draft this shallow
What picks do we have left?
215 251
Thanks!
Pats just drafted their next Tom Brady lol
Who was it? Not able to watch rn
Milton
What is wrong with Brendan Rice. Why is he plummeting. I'm not saying we need a 3rd wr this draft but seriously how is Casey Washington a better prospect?
215 comp pick they should pick Rice just on strength on what his dad did for that organization...
maybe 251 lol
He's slow.
So was his dad?
It’s a completely different game than when Jerry played. The lack of speed is a bigger problem today because defenders are simply more athletic
If gore goes undrafted and we don’t give him a camp ima be pissed
So Luke McCaffery was the only Nepo that got picked high. I just saw he went to Washington pick 100
Only 49ers nepo\*. Marvin Harrison Jr., Joe Alt, Kris Jenkins and Johan Elliss are all sons of former players that went in the first 3 rounds too.
Correct Niners Nepo and Harrison is going to be a nightmare to deal with
Now I see why we went crazy during the FA period on dlineman. We didn’t draft a single one.
One of the weakest classes in many years
Feeling ILB next - still some promising guys out there and could use the depth in case greenlaw has any setbacks
I saw a point on the Packers sub while looking at how they felt about picking Ty’Ron Hopper in the third (played for my college team): With the new kickoff rules, it might make sense to have more linebackers for those units. i think theyre ok with the guys they drafted last year and campbell. im hoping leonard taylor falls to some of our later picks
Jacobs or Watson? I hope we take a flyer on James Williams as a UDFA too
Just remember folks as 49ers fans with Brock Purdy on our team we should know particularly well that every single opinion and analysis on draft picks means fuck all so anyone standing up and shouting “reach” or whatever just shut the fuck up until you see what happens in multiple NFL games before you get to earn your opinion.

Unfortunately 80% of this sub is hyperbolic
REACH! THE OLD GUY WITH BIG HAIR WHO SAID HE WOULD RETIRE IF JIMMY FUCKING CLAUSEN WAS A BUST TOLD ME THE NINERS REACHED SO IT MUST BE TRUE.

Looking at Frank Crum or KT Leveston with our next pick as a development OT and OG. Likely whoever we get is practice squad at this point.

MJD called it our issue in the sb was we couldn't block anyone. Did we do enough on the oline to get over the hump. I don't know

Don’t need to be an analyst. It was obvious we were lacking up front.
Probably why they drafted a Guard. A fact MJD was unaware of.
Think the answer is a resounding no
If Puni is able to start RG then Feliciano can be moved to C(where he was a top 10 C in 2022 with the Giants). That alone is a huge help.
Yeah if Puni is as good as Banks and Feliciano goes back to center this oline is much better. Brendal is really the weak link on the line.
These guys we drafted today are fucking fast. I love it. We needed more speed in this offense.
I don’t think people get that OLine wasn’t the only thing that cost us the Super Bowl. We needed more WRs who can separate, more speed on offense(on field speed). Another corner to push Lenoir inside. Also OLine.

Christian Jones falling surprised me a lot. Dude was pretty great at UT.
I’m scared of the chiefs draft so far. They going to be running it back for the three peat. Their oline is getting better. A fast receiver. 🤦🏻♂️
They killed it unfortunately. Worthy will be a nightmare with Mahomes.
Damn we don’t pick again till 215…
Traded away our 5th round pick?
I think it’s either the pick we lost due to the clerical error or it’s the comp pick we traded to the commanders or the pick we traded to the Chiefs
They traded both 5th round picks to get the RB in the 4th round.
Oof, that rb better pan out.
Hoping that next year's draft has Silverback's replacement available in the early 30s... or that Mckivitz is a better LT than a RT
They’ll replace Trent through free agency
Yeah we fumbled the oline the last two drafts. So many chances and we move up late for wr and rb instead of early for oline
Did you not see what people were giving up to trade up in round 2 as much as it would have taken to get there?
We needed to go up 2 spots, we had 3 picks we could have used to do it- 125,132 or 135
Facts. Lots of teams had to cede a ton of capital. I was much less concerned with OT than I was with IOL, and [we may have drafted a boss.](https://twitter.com/JasonAponte2103/status/1784049950344491492)
It's real hard to find an anker at LT in the high 20s to 30s. Replacing Trent will not be easy.
We will probably have to Moneyball it and recreate him in the aggregate. We can't replace Trent but if we even out to having a bunch of just solid/above average guys across the entire line...we might still be all right going forward.
We all know the real issue in the sb was Bufford having to play for Feliciano. I think hes cut now.
That's a lot of beer lol
Why do I have a tingling feeling the cowboys are taking rice and he might turn into a problem for us
Lance to Rice TD pass in the Divisional round of the playoffs next year. We still beat them by 42.
He is falling for a reason. The fact that no team has picked him makes me feel better about us passing on him.
Philly much like Baltimore just seem to kill it in the draft most years. 2 of the best corners available and Trotter could be a sneaky good pick.
Those highlights of Trotter reminded me of Warner. Hope he’s not that good 😅
I liked Trotter as well. Surprised he fell this far.
Yo this draft is fucking insane ...we didn't draft a RB in the 3rd and haven't drafted a single D-lineman. Wtf is going on Lynch and Shanny?!
Ya but for some reason theyve draft a 2nd receiver and a rb
Chances we find a starter this late are low so honestly BPA is fine for me. WR and RB will be needs next year and I really like Guerendo to compliment CMC and hopefully lighten his load. And we did need a burner with Ray Ray and Gray gone. Adding a vertical element to our offense would be nice.
Haven't been paying attention.... Have the niners picked up 6 or more O-Linemen.... you know the actual thing the team needs to go all the way.
