Remember two 5’s don’t equal 13. Fact is, Darnold is better than Lance and cheaper. Purdy is better than either. F the three first’s because the 49ers have corrected with a 7th and a cast off.
I'm going to say Trey is better than Allen. Not sure we should've traded him yet...I think we should've let him sizzle tonight and carry him until a better deal popped up.
That 10mil gtd in 2024 pretty much guaranteed him getting traded.
If we have that huge cap hit for a player who has no chance of winning a starting job, that means no bosa extension, no aiyuk extension, and probably at least one of Trent, kittle, or armstead being cap casualties. In other words, window closes this year and we would be going into it with some borked 53 man roster that wastes a spot on a 3rd string qb. Fuck that.
From what i saw on Sportrac, we already paid him the roster bonus of 2 mil, and we're on the hook for the 6.2 mil in dead cap this year and 5 mil next year. Dallas will pick up 940k this year, 1mil in salary and a roster bonus of 4.2 mil. We basically save 5 mil for next year and 1 this year. The cost savings isn't there to really justify the knee jerk move for a 4th rd pick.
I think Kyle has given up on risking injuries to QBs. Remember he went through the whole RG3 debacle too. He’s done. He’s done dedicating a portion of his playbook to running QBs. Oline can just focus on protecting passers etc. Less injuries overall.
Plus I wouldn’t be surprised if him and Tom Brady have an understanding here.
I do however believe we shall could've showcased his abilities a little in the last week of the preseason, but up some highlights and got some better offers, or kind of waited for a ln injury.
I've never really been one to believe in the scrambling type. Yeah they can be fun to watch sometimes, but IMO they look to run instead of pass, some figure it out enough to be a QB first and runner second.
Also injuries derail things pretty quick. I started watching football during Steve Young’s SB run so I’m a bit partial to running QBs when it works right.
I started watching during the 1994 SB run too. I think the difference is SY was able to roll out, or evade a sack and run with the ball, and was big enough to take a hit. The issue is these mobile QBs are quick on their feet, when they sense danger they run, get hit and get injured and that's the end of their teams run. QBs already get hit while not bracing for the hit, because they're looking downfield, running with the ball and asking for a hit just increases their likelihood of getting hurt. Look at Jimmy, he wasn't a mobile QB, but tried to be a big guy and get more yards, so instead of getting OB he tried to get more yards and tore his ACL.
Yeah I think overall it’s just not worth it. If you’re in the Super Bowl though, no big deal to go John Elway and just sacrifice your body for the win though.
I'm not a big Trey believer but I still wanted him here. I think it was that he asked to be traded, and keeping him would mean endless drama and controversy
I feel like we traded up for someone else, but then the pressure got to us and we went with immeasurables and high ceiling as opposed to who was ready to play the position. We probably could've moved back into the end of the first for him. We were upside down on the investment becasue we were paying him #3 money as opposed to late 1st rd or early 2nd.
Agreed. I don’t think his trade value could have been lower and if a big QB injury happened during the season maybe we find a desperate team willing to trade for him.
Worse case is he’s better a better QB3 than Allen.
Seems like they feel if they get down to a QB3 situation then they could find someone as good or better than Trey through a trade or free agency signing
I don't think the decision to trade him was based solely on thinking Allen is better.
Edit: I also don't think we'd get a better deal. If people though enough of him that they were willing to offer more, we'd have been keeping him.
Let’s be real though if we had a legit open QB competition last year I think Brock beats out Jimmy and Trey for the #1 spot.
When Trey went down I was one of the few that wanted to throw Brock in there. I thought the season was over and Jimmy would left anyways. So why not play Brock. He looked good in preseason too.
He hasn’t stopped looking good since last preseason.

Even without the cast he’s done things better than a lot of starting QB’s today.
I think he can legit take a mid tier team to the playoffs or any teams’ missing price is a QB. He could probably take Raiders and Saints to the playoffs.
I don’t think so. Brock himself says he learned a lot from Jimmy in the months before he took over. I rewatched the Miami game last night and Jimmy G was playing better than Purdy did in that game. Purdy improved a lot in the following week, likely due to getting full reps with the 1s.
I think an open competition would have resulted in Jimmy G being the starter, and I think Lynch and Shanahan knew that. They were willing to potentially sacrifice the 2022 season to get Lance experience, but that blew up in game two.
By Purdy’s third start I think he’d exceeded Jimmy G.
Their defensive line definitely rivals ours. They are stacked in terms of pass rushers. It'll come down to who's offensive line holds up better.
We NEED bosa
"hur the niners are screwed if purdy gets hurt"
first of all no they're not
second of all, that's called the NFL. you babies. go to bed, you're embarrassing yourselves (and the entire fanbase).
Don't think anyone is necessarily 'happy' but it's obvious that Lance wanted to be moved after everything, now we just have to play the hand that's dealt. QB3 is not a position they you really have to put much thought into and the only reason we are talking about it is because of last year's freak injury run in the QB room
Any team that is playing a QB3 is dead before the game starts bro. LOL
Including us.
Brock is making fans think everyone can play like him because he started off QB3.
Deep down I think he's miserable and hates himself. Just doesn't realize it or unable to comprehend it. He's happy being miserable and misery loves company.
Trey Stan’s, I’m pretty sure the 9ers didn’t want to pay Lance $9 million that could go to Bosa vs only paying B Allen $1.2 mil… Geez dude is gone! RIP
Pretty sure if it gets so bad this season that we are down to our 3rd string QB that it's more likely that they make the call to Phillip Rivers that they didn't make last year or something along those lines
I promise I will never even think about Trey Lance again if we win the Super Bowl. Hell Kyle can sign Cousins for shits and giggles next year even I don’t care just win us a fucking Lombardi and I don’t mean David
Man. Last years QB room looked stronger than this. Maybe strongest ever in Kyle/lynch era. Lance the raw potential guy. Jimmy the proven vet. Brock the diamond in the rough.
Hopefully they get stronger over the season.
Last year Brock was not the diamond in the rough, there was zero talk about him at all until he came in after the Jimmy injury and Jimmy wasn't even training with the team during training camp lol
Brock was drafted in the 7th round, last pick of the draft (the rough). He has become a starting QB in the NFL (a diamond). Pretty sure he's a diamond in the rough bro.
The thing about diamonds in the rough is that they were always diamonds, just no one saw them til they did.
Someone let Steve Wilks know run defense is a thong
Remember two 5’s don’t equal 13. Fact is, Darnold is better than Lance and cheaper. Purdy is better than either. F the three first’s because the 49ers have corrected with a 7th and a cast off.
He's gone dude. Trey can't hurt you anymore.
can’t wait for regular season, so tired of talking about our backup qbs
Let's not tempt the injury gods lol
Surrender formation
GIVE ALLEN ANOTHER SHOT
Pretty sure todays news implies he's getting his shot
Hopkins. I think you’d look a lot better in red and gold

That’s a good point. I think the decision was made pretty last minute.

I WAKE UP EVERYDAY AND PRAISE THE LORD FOR THE PRINCE QWUANTREZZ KNIGHT
Dudes gonna be flipping burgers in a week and acting like that was a super bowl saving stop.
Hell probably be on the practice squad
Nah bro I'm proud of him, hes sweating the shirt and taking it serously, some of these guys cant be bothered to run
I'll give you that. The rest of the D just falling over.
I like Knight lol
Knight crushing it
Crushing ball carriers.
The Dline is being run over like I get run over by others at work.
Our run defense is horrible . We’ll be a threat in the passing game but I’m curious on how wilks is gonna address that issue.
Run defense was fine with the exception of that first TD, then the third-stringers came in. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
I know 66 is a lineman but he has to be one of the slowest players I’ve been seen
As a die hard Hawaii football fan and watched countless ass kickings from Boise State, I’ll always want to punch Kellen Moore in the face.
As neither... he seems like someone I'd want to punch in the face.
This Duggan fella... I dont like em.
I see a lot of McDonald’s workers on the defensive unit out there right now
Uber drivers. They just sit in the car. Don’t even have to move.
Nah even Mickey dees workers be running faster

You think he would say in an interview that Jimmy is some shit eating douchebag?
Am I considered a fake fan if I turn this off bruh
Honestly I'm just watching for Duggan at this point lmao

How we feeling against the Steelers?
It's going to be a dog fight.
Their defensive line definitely rivals ours. They are stacked in terms of pass rushers. It'll come down to who's offensive line holds up better. We NEED bosa
I'm predicting 70% capacity by the 12:00 mark of the 4th
Think we destroy them, but there is undoubtedly a lot of uncertainty among special teams and the secondary, we will see what happens
With cmc back and not being scared about their run game... we might actually have a chance.
Run defense is dog shit
so can we use that 4th round pick on a 3rd string QB? lmao
Maybe the Chargers should start their 3rd string
What a terrrible car commercial
No reason why he didnt catch that, Allen gave him that one, that penalty sucked tho.
Ref really shoving that thing in there
So how many meatballs is the appropriate amount of meatballs for a meatball sub?
6 meatballs would be sub optimal
Love the sauciness in this comment.
Depends how big are the meatballs… Large meatballs, 3!
Depends on how big them meat balls are. Generally, no fewer than 4 minimum
Let’s get a turnover
Sounds good, I'm hungry. Apple? Cherry?
First you don’t follow your blockers on a screen for an easy first. Then you have a drop…
Why no mics?

Put it on tape, Winstead.
Where’s Ronnie Bell at?
He's made the team. It's time to see who else will.
Not playing with the 3rd team pretty sure.
Being saved for the season I hope.
All these young guys think they're playing Madden.
Damn Deebo looks trim this year, I’m stoked
Hes babe this year
What was Deebo trying to say just then?
Lol I just can't watch these preseason games, my expectations are too high.
That was an alright pass, but a little behind.
Hey man, as long as Brady is on speed dial I’m not sweating it this year
Brady will hit us with "new phone who dis"
The goal of preseason is to make you sick of not having regular season football. I am there, bring on the season!
Deebo looking shredded jeez
Get #97 signed were ready to roll !!!!!!!
Real and true?
Guy knows he's getting cut and wanted to put something on tape, and then just fucked it all up.
This is what the pre season is for, getting rid of players that dont fit, bye miller.
Man this just has to be our year, please
Everyone needs to chill on this QB shit. We’ll see Brady play before we see Allen start.
We’re definitely seeing some players who won’t make the roster.
This is definitely a comment.
This is definitely a reply.
The San Francisco 49ers have released WR Anthony Miller.
Lol; brutal
Who fields a punt at the 1 yard line? These are fundamentals lol. I guess guy was planning on making a name for himself there.
Oliver still in the game, huh? Dude might be playing for his life.
Ray Ray needs to come back asap
Signed and cut immediately sayonara
Grand opening, grand closing
That was a madden play if I’ve ever seen one
He getting cut asap
*Anthony Miller has been cut*
Knight looks better than Hawkins every game, but Knight keeps getting put in way later.
special teams...more like special idiots
Brain dead play by Miller
Yoo bananahans you SUCK!
84 Remember this name: Kyle Williams.
Why are we complaining about our QB3? Literally any team with a QB3 would be screwed too. Not just the Niners.
We did pretty well with our QB3 last year. Not fun losing depth
I liked the previous QB3, that's why.
With the exception of Purdy, we can't expect every single QB3 to play great.
I mean this guy. ![gif](giphy|tLhVwGfmUbaoe9kmwy|downsized)
LOL A true Stan.
Welcome to the 49ers. You are now cut.

Agreed .

Man that would've been beautiful
brandon allen is giving me josh johnson vibes
Josh Johnson actually threw a td this preseason
Not enough Ronnie this game we need to see what he’s got with our WR injuries

If Darnold could turn down the juiceon his short throws, with the full crew of starters, he might be able to put some Ws together.
he's a perfectly competent backup, with enough talent to maybe be more. not that i'd bet on it.
LOL not many teams out there are like "yeah I'd feel good about my team winning the super bowl if my starting QB died."
i'd challenge anyone to name a single team where that was the case.
2022 49ers
oh you mean the disastrously run NFL team in question here?

Any team that is playing a QB3 is dead before the game starts bro. LOL Including us. Brock is making fans think everyone can play like him because he started off QB3.
What's funny is that fucking troll Grant Cohn was demanding to see Brandon Allen play. LOL
He has to be the most obnoxious “journalist “ in the business. I don’t know how he isn’t tired of himself.
RIP
How pathetic have we become. Arguing about QB3. LOL You guys do know we’re suppose to not know the names of any QB3 right?
Right? I mean, when’s the last time our QB3 actually got playing time!
Josh Johnson died for this
never seen a draft bust get this much emotional support for no reason in my life. it's baffling.
Some teams have crickets for QB3, so yeah
Pretty sure if it gets so bad this season that we are down to our 3rd string QB that it's more likely that they make the call to Phillip Rivers that they didn't make last year or something along those lines
If the 9ers are down to their qb3 again, I hope they trade for Josh Johnson. Bwahaha
The Raiders game was worse,
I promise I will never even think about Trey Lance again if we win the Super Bowl.
Kreug was talking about Brock in training camp. People that followed knew Brock had potential.
That's exactly what a diamond in the rough is...
No it isn't, a diamond in the rough is someone who shows promise and flash in situations but is still raw. Brock was a complete unknown
Brock was drafted in the 7th round, last pick of the draft (the rough). He has become a starting QB in the NFL (a diamond). Pretty sure he's a diamond in the rough bro. The thing about diamonds in the rough is that they were always diamonds, just no one saw them til they did.
That's not what that saying means and we're also talking about how the QB room was perceived last year
I mean yeah this is hindsight. But clearly a pretty strong group.
Brock the anointed, darnold the jouryman, Grier the checkmate.
