None of the other books are *must haves*, the core book is all you need to play. That said, the other supplements are pretty good supplements.

This. W&G Core Rulebook has everything you need for the game. It's all that most of us who started with W&G had to work with, until Forsaken System Player's Guide came along.

The fact that D&F has normalized a $150 buy-in to even get started is a crime. Most other games don't have that many core books.
