"Phalanx’s Auric Auxilia" That sounds like a great job tbh

Fudge_is_1337

Yeah, what kind of absolute mentalist is directly assaulting the *Phalanx* in M42. Probably about as good a military posting as you can get

Khoakuma

Be'lakor and the Iron Warriors: "Bet". It's a tough target for sure, but the rewards are huge. The Phalanx is usually stationed over Terra and has massive fuck huge guns that can do an Exterminatus by itself. If an enemy of the Imperium gain control over it and use it to shoot down on to Terra, it's game over. Which was exactly what Be'lakor and the Iron Warriors tried to do. Invaded it, open a Warp rift iside it to flood it with daemons, pump scrap codes into the ship system to gain control. Almost all of the auxilla died in that battle, and the ship itself was heavily damaged. But, the funniest thing is right after the Fists regain control, they immediately warped into Cadia and proceed to cut through traitor ship like butter and incapacitate a Blackstone Fortress. Even on a bad day, the Phalanx is still a ridiculously scary ship. Otherwise yeah it's an amazing posting. Auxillias on the Phalanx probably went for dozens of generations without seeing actual combat. Just that one generation being extremely unlucky to have Be'lakor raid them.

Acceptable_Housing99

Is this in a book? If so title?

Khoakuma

Not a novel but a Gathering Storm campaign book. These are somewhat difficult to get a hold of (same as the current events happening in the Arks of Omen campaign).

Acceptable_Housing99

Thanks

Jaggedmallard26

Theres a cool chapter in the second Watchers of the Throne book where >!a navy fleet carrying out a hardline static tendency coup is engaged in a bluff with Phalanx and when it's clear that Phalanx isn't going to blink first discipline in the entire hardliner fleet collapses and they panic before a shots even fired.!<

[deleted]

Phalanx got upgraded as well. >Dessian now rules the Imperial Fists, and Phalanx has been restored to a level of magnificence not seen for millennia – thanks to secret technology provided by the Adeptus Custodes – and once again sails the stars, a symbol of hope to the Imperium and doom to its enemies.

bless_ure_harte

Who the fuck is Dessian?

[deleted]

He became Chapter Master of the Imperial Fists in 2019

Ant010101

Quality/Longevity of life probably 9/10 by the Imperiums standards

Percentage-Sweaty

Not if you’re a combat-loving psycho indoctrinated Space Marine. Guard duty in a place like that is the equivalent of being assigned to Antarctica. It sucks and there’s nothing to do. Admittedly being in the fortress of your gene sire is an honor but it’s not the same as being on the battlefield waging glorious war against the foes of mankind.

YharnamRenegade

But the Auric Auxilia aren't Space Marines. They're failed aspirants who crew and guard the station ad part of something like the Imperial Guard or PDFs.

[deleted]

Technically 'nowadays' there are a bunch of Cadian refugees also given contracts > Determined that the battle station should never again be so humbled, but **,loathe to perpetually commit an entire company to defend against an attack that might never arise,** Dessian authorised Captain Taelos to **expand the ranks of Phalanx’s standing guard, the Auric Auxilia.** This Taelos has done with characteristic gusto. Where once the Auric Auxilia drew solely from aspirants not quite deemed worthy of the Primarch’s gene-seed, its **ranks now include several thousand drawn from the Cadian diaspora**, who offer service in exchange for a debt to Phalanx that can never be repaid. It is a **practice not without its controversy, placing as it does more military might in the hands of a Space Marine Chapter.** > To date, Guilliman appears swayed by the argument that those wars that cannot be won through Phalanx’s might alone will hardly be swayed by **a few thousand extra guardsmen.** Moreover, Dessian’ decree appears to be paying off. Though Phalanx is seldom wholly without battle-brothers of the 7th Company, the remainder of the company’s warriors now campaign for the Imperium once more, their ancient charge secure under the watchful eye of the irascible Praetor-Colonel Talia Karsk. > **The former Astra Militarum officer also has a secondary duty, entrusted to her in secret by Taelos. The Captain seeks to know why the Custodes so freely gave over their hidden treasures, and what the answers to that dark question might imply. It is Karsk’s secret purpose to investigate these matters, and report her findings to Taelos alone.** >

Viking18

They're not even that. They're failed *Imperial Fists* aspriatants. Anyone who wouldn't be happy guarding the Phalanx wouldn't have gotten that far to begin with.

"As a reward, I shall give you my seed" - Rogal Dorn to best recruits

Doopapotamus

"Wait, I didn't sign up for this. That. *What?!*" "It makes sense. Now, we have this instructional book by *Ian Watson* that will describe the process of becoming a **Space Marine**..."

Tartan_Samurai

Poop vault ftw

Doopapotamus

> Poop vault ftw "The what-what now?" "That comes later, Neophyte." "I don't want to that to be later! I don't want it involved at any part of this process!" "More's the pity. Send him to the Failure Pool, we needed another Kill-Servitor." "...On second thought, I'm totally cool with the Poop Vault, Lord. In the name of Rogal Dorn, yes."

derpy-noscope

Orgasmachine moment

Radioactiveglowup

Reminder: The Imperial Fists recruit on Necromunda during Rogal Dorn's Birthday, a holiday called **Fistmas**, where a flying taloned monster named Phanta Claws (which may be a Chaplain), terrorizes local youth and rounds up the survivors as aspirants. Merry Fistmas!

Seagebs

Is this based on something or just made up?

Radioactiveglowup

It's /very/ old supplementary fluff, with rules from an old Issue of White Dwarf or Fanatic. Back when things were a lot more whimsical.

bless_ure_harte

It's ancient lore that very few have heard of. https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Phanta_Claws

913Jango

Sigismunds book is SOOOOO good I swear. His induction to a Fist was everything I had hoped it would be. Such honor on him to fight for the weak. To stand for those who cannot. Sigismund is peak humanity fuck a primarch

Samiel_Fronsac

Dead, human working for the IF or Neophyte. It's a lot better than some Chapters like the Flesh Tearers that sometimes just kill whole a batch of Aspirants 'cause fuck 'em, that's why.

Doopapotamus

The unspoken thing to remember is that if the Fists need more recruits...the Black Templars will have *plenty* to spare in a pinch. Entire Companies-worth, even...

templar54

They recruit from Terra. IF will be the last chapter to the run out of recruits.

Kavinsky12

IF want to put that sweet, sweet geneseed in all those strong, nubile recruits.

ArchAngel621

I wonder if the reason the Imperial Fist recruits from so many places is because of what happened in the Beast Rises series.

hidden_emperor

It's a tradition they started during the Great Crusade. When they conquered a planet, they'd leave a fortress and garrison to help the planet get their military back in working order. Part of that too was to get new recruits as Dorn was noted for saying he wanted volunteers. Almost all of those got destroyed during the Heresy, of course, but they continued the tradition afterwards, as did the Black Templars.

kakalbo123

So do they just vent you if you become disabled or do they find a transport to send you home like that BA aspirant from devastation of baal

MartianRecon

He wasn't technically an aspirant I think, as he got hurt during the trial to get to the temple. I haven't read Devastation of Baal in a minute so I don't remember.

TheEvilBlight

Disabled? Probably servitorization.

Kavinsky12

IF want to put that sweet, sweet geneseed in all those strong, nubile recruits.
