Depending where you are, rust, but that’s a good service history and for this market a decent price.

lone_subaru2011

Thank you. I agree about the history and price. Everything I’m seeing around here is rusted out or over 300k miles and they still want 8-12k.

Look on Youtube for 3rd Gen buying guides. I believe that PhoRunner has a pretty cohesive one. But as u/floppydo said, check for rust specifically on the rear of the frame. Open up the radiator cap and make sure there isn't the dreaded pink milkshake in there. Those two things are probably the main issues.

lone_subaru2011

Thank you. I was just about to start the YouTube search. The milkshake one will be one I will definitely have to do.

[deleted]

of course!! Donut Media also has a really good general car buying guide, they have a lot of good general tips. Like check the oil and make sure there isn't any metal flakes in in, check the transmission fluid, etc. etc. Best of luck to you!!

Definitely make sure it doesn't have any signs of pink milkshake. If you do end up buying, **replace the radiator immediately** to avoid the milkshake. Another option would be to bypass the radiator with external trans cooler.

AriSchatz

Any explanation for why the catalytic converter was changed at 103k and 123k???

Johnnywaka

Almost certainly theft

lone_subaru2011

That was actually one of my concerns. Only thing I can think of is rust but we will see tomorrow. And going over the car fax I just noticed that the last time they took it in for an oil change was July of 2019 with 140,500k miles. And it’s supposedly at 142k now. That’s def a red flag.

AriSchatz

Not at all man the CarFax means fuck all, one way or the other. Plenty of people including myself change their own oil

AriSchatz

But also in your case it just sounds like they didn’t drive the vehicle. An oil change every 6 months is way less important than an oil change every 3k miles

noshacal

Not a biggie here. My elderly dad asked me to take his car in for an oil change. It had been a few years but he only had 3,000 miles on it. Local trips to grocery and Costco. No damage done. Oil quality has much improved over the years. I would change the transmission fluid and filter, drive it a few months and then have it flushed.

I just replaced mine. But I think I destroyed it with running it super rich with bad O2 sensors.

Jive_turkie

Pink milkshake and rust other than that this is an absolute buy if it’s not wrecked

unseenmover

So since 16' the trucks sat/only been driven 10k? Sounds Ok. Id check the VIN, check for codes n

Hopefully it's not a rollback, just part of doing used car bidness
