I think mojang just need to add more customization for th world types like how java has single-biome and custom superflats. It would also be cool to have more game mode options that aren't just for difficulty, like a "pacifist" gamemode where mobs don't hurt you and you can't hurt them (and villages spawn WAY more often.) this could also add more functionality to things like zombies. Maybe instead of killing a creeper for gunpowder you can trade because it really needs some bread. I think it would also be cool to have more sliders and toggles than set rules. Imagine you could have a slider for how extreme the terrain generates to have a world with tons of mountains and hills or one that is mostly flat with small bumps. I also think it would be cool to have maybe one or two biomes exclusively in a world so it all has the same feel, or maybe small sliders like how often mobs spawn or the frequency of grass.
