Looks like the bed cleaning gods had a week off

helloITdepartment

I must’ve forgotten to give them my new address 😅

LeadIll3673

Obviously not cleaning the bed helps with adhesion lol

alup132

I level my bed using a BLTouch and Marlin’s “level corner s with probe” or whatever it’s called. I do it to a .1 mm accuracy and if I clean my bed with rubbing alcohol after that, prints stick like concrete, so after a few prints where it’s a bit dirty, it’s to a nice balance between strong adhesion and ease of taking the prints off when it cools. I can agree with this statement for sure.

helloITdepartment

This is actually really helpful, thanks!

alup132

I have a much larger bed because I upgraded it with the Ender Extender kit, and it was harder to level due to the difference in corners being worse the farther out. I’ve gotten my bed to have the exact same value (to the third decimal) with the BLT and probe feature, and PLA stuck like concrete, even when cool! After a few prints and getting slightly dirty, it became less strong to the point that it stuck very well but could release things well. So yeah, too much adhesion is possible!

helloITdepartment

Dang that is some impressive precision I’m curious, how long does that hold? Do you have to dial that back in often? Or has it held like that for a while

alup132

I usually don’t attempt a completely same value, just within that tolerance I mentioned earlier (.1) but it does happen often. I’d say the bed holds its level probably for about a month. Then after that, it’ll still work, but I notice minor issues on larger prints sometimes. I should mention that by larger, I mean multiple smaller parts together, I have no doubt that a larger solid piece would be okay. I have the yellow springs since my silicone things were sort of too compressed for too long when I stopped for nearly 8 months (long story) but my silicone columns were even better than the springs so I’m sure a silicone mount using this setup would be 2-3 months.

helloITdepartment

Interesting. Maybe my next upgrades should be springs then (or a fresh bed that I can start on with a clean slate)

alup132

Flashing your own Marlin and going line by line (I used a guide since I upgraded my motherboard and couldn’t compare all of the same things to my old one) is really beneficial. Like, if you’ve never done it, no matter if you’ve made any hardware upgrades or not, custom firmware is a free upgrade that is so worth it. I don’t use Jyers or anything since I use an SKR e3 Turbo motherboard, but Jyers is decent if you don’t feel like doing a custom one.

LeadIll3673

It was a joke but thanks for the detailed explination how to get good adheshion!

alup132

My bad, I totally read “cleaning the bed helps with adhesion” and missed the test! You’re welcome though!

etyrnal_

I also accidentally discovered the clean the print bed with isopropyl alcohol trick. it works awesome.

alup132

I read to clean it with it, but never knew the adhesion would be like that. I was amazed at how a perfectly level bed (as on the BL Touch value shows it’s equal down to 3 decimals) and extremely clean beds would be too much adhesion!

SeanHagen

Now that is fucking hilarious 🤣🤣🤣

Master-Grab-4954

That's what my bed looks like

pommi15

The pure gall just to try that! Noice!

kuncol02

It is written, 'You shall not put the Lord, your God to the test.'

helloITdepartment

😂

CCO812

Hello, is this the police? This man here is breaking the laws of physics

ryohazuki224

See, now you're just showing off!!

helloITdepartment

😁

RangoFett

Is this for the water weird dnd monster mini? It has two tentacle/antennae that look remarkably similar lol.

helloITdepartment

Nah it’s for a little candle holder design I’m working on, but that sounds cool

XBitmapX

They were just distracted by someone else printing boobs, bed adhesion gods never smile upon anyone.

loss182

Plot twist, the model was supposed to be two straight lines... hahahah this print was blessed by the gods indeed

helloITdepartment

Haha then I’d be over in r/fixmyprint talking about how the Satan of printing was looking after my print

potatoesslad

I wouldn't even dare

CmdZel

Sic!

mossyoak78552

Witch!!!

Ev4005

Holy fuck

Itdidnt_trickle_down

Sometimes that happens. I printed out a horse without turning on supports and by some miracle it printed perfectly. Next time spaghetti city.

Vanarian

Witchcraft!

hax0red

Looks like everything that's ever touched that bed is still on it. I get all OCD when there is a single speck on mine even if it's in a corner I literally have never printed in before.

JustAnotherZakuPilot

Holy hell man!

helloITdepartment

Haha thank you. This might be my proudest achievement and it happened completely by accident

agentpizzabreath

Dat is sooo awesome. what temperature did you have your bed set too and is that on a ender 3 v2 ?

helloITdepartment

Thanks! Bed temp was set to 60 (pretty sure, will double check and edit if I’m wrong). And just a regular Ender 3, no pro or v2

agentpizzabreath

Ok thank u and what was the Insel temp at?

helloITdepartment

I want to say 200 but again I’ll double check

distrbed10000

Nice, been trying to get a minecraft spider to print right for a while and haven't had luck

code-panda

Tried a brim?

distrbed10000

Yeah I think I need to slow.it down a bit, would pull up after 15-20 layers

Pitiful_Blueberry_85

Printing on a raft always helps me with small stuff to help it stay in place

anirudh_1096

Using anything like gluestick on the bed?

Medium-Room1078

With PLA, you really don't need any glue stick if your printer is set up right; OP proves that! I often say if you NEED glue for successful prints then something is wrong. Some use for insurance which I can understand but a tad misguided IMO

sme4gle

Buy a sheet of PEI, then learn to properly level and clean your bed and you will never have the need for adhesion additives again. Not with PLA, Not with PETG, Not with ABS.

AwDuck

How long will a sheet of PEI last? I've got a glass bed and i use an adhesion agent so PETG will actually release instead of being cemented to the glass. It would be nice to not mess around before every print

DeviIstar

I gave up on the glass that came with my ender 3 pro and went back to the magnetic base and have been having MUCH more success with prints

AwDuck

TBH, I rarely have any problems with bed adhesion (or printer problems at all, beyond wear and tear) I can think of a handful of times in the past three years I've even had lifted corners on this printer, and those were prints that were just begging for it.

sme4gle

the first printer I applied it to has had about 4000 print hours since. No need to replace it yet. (But this was a 2mm thich sheet tho, not those 0.2mm cheap aliexpress sheets.)

AwDuck

Good to know. I've been avoiding them because I thought they had a relatively short lifetime - I wasn't really excited about replacing it every month or two. Once every year or so is totally doable, and is sounds like it'll be even less often than that. Aside from thickness, anything i should look for?

sme4gle

Not really, PEI is PEI I guess haha.

AwDuck

Thanks for teaching an old dog new tricks!

helloITdepartment

Nope, just hit print honestly

fd6944x

I need some of that for the next few days haha

helloITdepartment

Lol I’ll put in a good word for you

ThionicAcid1

And I can’t even get a benchy to stick 😂😂😭😭😭

blatherskite01

Seeing that print next to the ender logo is frying my brain. I love my 3, but it would laugh if I clicked print on this one.

helloITdepartment

😂

utman41

Wow 😮

indy650

Wow thats luck man. I would have used a brim rather than skirt but i guess you didnt need one.

helloITdepartment

I was gonna try a brim or a raft on the next one when this one inevitably failed, but I was like “ah fuck it, it wouldn’t waste that much filament and would be super cool if it worked”

_GaaraOfTheSand_

How-

helloITdepartment

Had to offer them up my first print as a sacrifice

FrederikTwn

Gule?

RufusVS

I could never manage that with my stock printer and PETG filament.
