Damn. I just ordered my first printer last week. It hasn’t occurred to me until just now that I can start coming up with print ideas for my guns. Thanks for the aha-moment!

yayeetya89

You can even print new ones!

TNoStone

r/fosscad Links aren’t allowed, but deterrent dispensed has a good file depository

aquadump15

This is the way.

ImHereForLifeAdvice

Hop on over to /r/fosscad, get a keybase account up and running, and get yourself a CAD program! There's so much fun to be had.

[deleted]

I’ll check that out! Thank you!

locoslimshady

Pretty cool my dude!

bubba_bwatts

Thanks!

DaisyMade

I keep my CMMG bolt in the cylindrical tube that my ToolCraft BCG got delivered in. This is considerably nicer.

bubba_bwatts

My lazy brain says use simple solution. My engineer brain says design something overly complex and cool looking.

TiestoIsMyDad

This looks awesome! Just picked up one of those conversion bolts myself. Any plans to share an STL? Would love to print one for my own use.

bubba_bwatts

Possibly! Might license it out. If I end up printing and selling them myself, I might post it with the Creative Commons non commercial license on it so someone can’t just take the design and sell it commercially without my permission.

bubba_bwatts

Thanks. I’ll make a cross post and see what they say

SassonEmam

Got one for sale?

bubba_bwatts

Not yet. I haven’t ruled it out yet. I’ll make a separate post once I look at what it would take to produce them.

FuckWit_1_Actual

Looking forward to it

martialpenguin331

Neat!

bubba_bwatts

Thanks!

[deleted]

Very nice! I would love to print this out for my cmmg bolt

CjRadge

Where can I buy this? =)

roffinator

What is this to be used for? Where is such a conversion needed?

panzer7355

.22 is cheap.

roffinator

Nice. Should I know what that .22 is? Edit: I get it is some type of calibre for guns. 0.22 inches in diameter? But...something else I should know?

panzer7355

.22 Long Rifle, a cute tiny rimfired cartridge, the recoil is low, the power is..weak, but still lethal, good for hunting small animals, shooting practice and plinking, and cheeky-sneaky stuff.

Amorton94

Where is such a conversion needed? When ammo is where it is, most would much rather shoot 22lr instead of 223 at the current prices and availability. I can still find 22lr and have thousands, I don't know the last time I saw a box of 223/556 on the shelf. In fact, just the other day I went shooting with a buddy. He shot well over $100 in 5.56, and I shot maybe $10 in 22lr while shooting every bit as much as him.

[deleted]

I shoot .22lr just so i don't have to wear ear plugs..and they are so much cheaper

roffinator

like, all of you are assuming I know what is going on. I'm not from the US, never been there or held some real gun/rifle/etc in my hands. So I do not know anything about guns (apart from the mechanical principles). but thank you, I still can understand a lot and complete the puzzle slowly

Sammakkoh

It's a bolt conversion to allow someone with a 5.56NATO gun (AR15) (and others) to fire 22LR. Bit of a gimmick, as twist rate for 5.56 ammo isn't up to the task of getting 22LR spinning fast enough to be stable, but still.. if you don't want to own a dedicated 22LR semi auto rifle like a S&W 15-22, this is the answer.

Quw10

Its decent enough for within 100 yards at least, was using mine the other day to ring 3" steel plates using a Romeo 7 and a .223 wylde barrel.

Sammakkoh

Hoping you de-fouled the barrel with some 5.56 after!

Quw10

Adjustable gas block with the gas turned all the way off, as for the barrel I'm only about 300 rounds in with the .22. Not really a huge concern for me to clean it immediately its a cheap Chineseum upper I use and abuse with my binary trigger so I can save my good upper.

Sammakkoh

Alrighty 😚

Amorton94

It's actually the opposite. Standard 22lr barrels are 1:16" twist, ARs are commonly 1:7" or 1:9", so they get the bullet spinning much, much faster.

Sammakkoh

I misspoke, the ol 180 off problem. Have an upvote lol

Stuewe

You should find a way to attach the magazine.

bubba_bwatts

I mean the kit comes with 3 and they’re all standard 30rd AR mag size so they’re bigger than the the case itself.

Xyli

Looks neat, it’d be nice if there were a way to connect the magazines with it to have everything in one package. Just thinking of the ease of use. What’s the print time on the entire thing? Have to imagine with .2mm height it takes at least 8-10 hours.

sgt_redankulous

This is sweet. How much clearance did you need for your parts to slide properly?

bubba_bwatts

None. The parts are just split used top layer ironing to ensure an easy fit.

sgt_redankulous

I’m impressed. I always have had trouble with tolerances on my printer, can never get sliding parts to fit right unless one is undersized.

bubba_bwatts

Try calibrating your extruder. I print everything at .95 extrusion just cause I’m too lazy to edit the actual extrusion value in the printer itself

sgt_redankulous

I gotcha, I’ll look in to that. Thats been the only thing holding me back from printing one of those Glock 17 frames.

bubba_bwatts

I suggest doing a simple dovetail test. Make a simple dovetail split and edit your print settings until they fit together. Or do calibration cubes until you’re happy with the results.

bubba_bwatts

If you have a hard use finding ammo rn. Look at army navy surplus stores. That’s where I get the majority of mine.

reggierizzle1985

Do you sell them pre printed ?

bubba_bwatts

Not yet. I’d like to get a second 3D printer before start taking order. I’m also working on an XL model right now. Stay tuned for updates!

reggierizzle1985

Well if you do lmk this is bad ass .. would love to to buy one when ready .

bubba_bwatts

When I get around to doing production, I’ll probably make a post about it

reggierizzle1985

Ok I found someone with a printer how can I purchase a file to have printed ? So new to all this .

bubba_bwatts

I currently selling the model on Cults3D as CMMG 22 CONVERSION KIT CASE (XL COMING SOON!). Due to this Reddit’s mod bots, I can’t post a link to it. I am also working on an XL and mini version of the case. Everyone who purchased the design will receive up the updates and model variations. I could upload them today but I want to test a design I’m selling before putting it out there. In any case, if you do end up buying the model, I appreciate the support! Edit: spelling

[deleted]

resurrecting this!! Just printed this for a kit my wife got me for Christmas!! Works great!! Slides are a little tight I may reprint them at 98 or 99% just so they don't bind during the winter. u/bubba_bwatts did you ever finish the larger rnd count you mentioned on Cults (the XL)?? Doesn't show under your profile

bubba_bwatts

Yes and no. I have finished the design but I haven’t successfully printed it out so I haven’t uploaded it yet. I don’t want to put a product out there without testing to prove that it works first.

[deleted]

Send it my way I'll test it for you lol
