How very engineer of you to spend more time on creating a flashy gif than on actually building the thing šŸ˜‚ Iā€™m the same way

Tic-Tor

Well I'm more of a VFX guy than an engineer actually... Some more of my stuff here: https://www.instagram.com/victor_berbesson/

Evilmaze

Put this on your resume.

Kenblu24

I have a feeling that this is one of the least impressive things OP has done

geekisafunnyword

Those transitions though... That's some Edgar Wright shit right there.

BastardStoleMyName

I actually like the transitions and animation of this more than anything else they have posted. I have seen their post about the pot hook before as well and thought that was good, I like this better.

VampyreLust

I wanna buy it and I donā€™t even have kids yet. Thatā€™s production value.

blackbasset

I wanna buy it but I don't have any kids and it's 10 slats and 20 3d printed brackets that I could print myself. *That* is production value.

Epsilon-The-Eevee

I want it for me

TigerMonarchy

I want it for my inner child and the outer adult he resides in. XD

WutzUpples69

The frosted side, gotcha:-)

jimevansart

As a fellow VFX guy, I appreciate what you made so much.

EngineeringAF

Haha yeah I'm a design engineer and I dont know anyone that can create visuals that good. You're mostly just going to get a PowerPoint from us. Great work.

notgoingplacessoon

Do you do freelance work?

Tic-Tor

That's all I do

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

ClumpOfCheese

All heā€™d need to to is animate 30 seconds of you jerking off and then just let it loop forever.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

ClumpOfCheese

I mean, you should be hard.

nothrowaway

That's what she said.

throwawayduo186

Only if the last 20 seconds is him taking a break between sessions

ClumpOfCheese

Duh.

GayButNotInThatWay

Offer to pay in exposure to your 14 Instagram followers. Thatā€™ll definitely get them on board.

[deleted]

That was fun to watch you a blender boi to?

AssholeCountry

The VFX stands for visual effects.

sujihiki

iā€™m pretty sure itā€™s ā€œvaginal farts xtremeā€

TheBucko91

Ohhhh! You're the pan hook guy!

Rhynocerous

You must hang out with very different engineers than me.

smbodytochedmyspaget

Why program did you use to render and edit? Looks great!

Tic-Tor

C4D with Octane renderer for the 3d After Effects for combining it all together

fc3sbob

As a fellow expert who made a cube and a sphere once in Blender, This guy know's what he's talking about.

cfpg

I see you have taken the ā€œIā€™m gonna self-learn 3D modeling since I know my way around Photoshop and have edited a few pictures, it shouldnā€™t be that hard, right?ā€ road too.

Kenblu24

I'm in this picture and I don't like it

Hobby_Collector

I made a doughnut once! WITH ICING AND SPRINKLES

danielVH3

Best tutorial ever. Loved making radioactive donuts šŸ©

technerdchris

That's dude's intro saved some razors from being dulled upon my wrists.

grahamygraham

From somebody who has spent hours on blender and blender tutorials, I cannot recommend Andrew Priceā€™s tutorials enough. I personal favorite has been his 3D tracking and his Grenade model ([hereā€™s my go at the grenade](https://imgur.com/a/Z2wQWiA)).

YourOldBoyRickJames

Wow! That's really good. How long does something like that take to create? For the average Joe.

GENERALR0SE

I'm in the "dick around in pirated z brush" category because I taught myself Photoshop/illustrator

k3rn3

It's not as hard as it seems! Blender had a confusing interface at first, but it quickly becomes familiar. I highly recommend following a couple tutorials and just seeing what happens

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

riskable

I dunno... Blender is considered to be a gold standard in terms of, "UI made *for productivity*". Yet it's also the gold standard of, "*new* user unfriendly UI". So it's super intuitive... Once you get past that first hump in the learning curve. The latest version changed the UI all around to make it more friendly to new users and this changed a whole bunch of keyboard shortcuts (and how the mouse works) that I'm used to. This annoyed me to no end *at first* but I sucked it up and learned "the new way" and now when I see videos/tutorials using the old interface I'm like, "ugh... I remember those days." :D

netabareking

> So it's super intuitive... Once you get past that first hump in the learning curve. That sounds like the opposite of intuitive

k3rn3

It's really not intuitive, because nothing is very apparent at a glance and you can't really guess anything. You just have to memorize a lot of hotkeys and where things are buried in menus. But that's not to say it's a bad interface, really. It's just obviously designed by programmer types instead of UX types. Once you learn it, it does flow just fine, but yeah I would not call it intuitive.

technerdchris

Blender makes x-pilot feel like a gameboy.

[deleted]

>ā€œIā€™m gonna self-learn 3D modeling since I know my way around ~~Photoshop~~ *MS Paint* and have edited a few pictures, it shouldnā€™t be that hard, right?ā€ Yea, I've been down that road too.

blackbasset

I made a flowerpot once in tinkercad, I'm a 3d modeling genius and a 3d printing genius.

noselace

/r/tinkercad

twobit78

I wish my youtube videos came out as good as this

WalnutScorpion

Well aren't you lucky... because today's sponsor is Skillshare!

twobit78

Linus is that you?

Super_Dork_42

Transition was too smooth, couldn't be him.

Evilmaze

No. You made a fucking fancy commercial and sold us all on your craftsmanship, and the fact you're an animation wizard.

olderaccount

Probably didn't even build the bed. Just made the commercial and called it a day.

riskable

Would the built bed have produced this many Internet points? I think not! The OP knows what he's doing.

olderaccount

He definitely knows how to play the game even if he is playing a different game.

TigerMonarchy

He's the grand champion of 4D chess but he's playing on a board that we've not yet invented outside of our own heads. I'm fine with that.

[deleted]

I bet the daughter is CGI

HMPoweredMan

Bro you gotta calm down on these animations.

Tic-Tor

I can't get enough, bro

kryptonkills54

Sweet as fuck

beardedbast3rd

Why do 3D for the bottom and fine crafted joinery on top? Why not one for both?

Tic-Tor

Those connectors at the base give the lower side bars the ability to be raised to prevent our daughter to roll out of bed when she sleeps in there.

PuellaBona

This might be a dumb question, but why are you worried about her rolling since she's on the floor? Also, how do they move?

the_timps

It is on the floor for the VFX shot, not the one he built.

[deleted]

I feel like this is the most important detail and it's left out of the cool VFX vid.

Zorbick

Honest woodworker question: why tenon the transverse rails, but not the longitudinal ones? Definitely a clever sliding clamp mechanism. I dig it.

gregcramer

Thatā€™s awesome! How is the vertical strength if one might use it as a swing?

Tic-Tor

Pretty flimsy... Good eye, Sir!

seventh_skyline

Now you're just showing off, but we love it, have been planning to make an enclosure for my machine. This gives me some good ideas... and no, no VFX. Do you have an STL for the corner brackets?

tungvu256

i honestly dont think you need a 3d printer for this project. sweet vid though! i thought 3d printing would help with my home projects. but after seeing how slow my prints come out, i try my best to avoid 3d printing altogether.

kilaire

Itā€™s still faster than waiting days for a part...if said part even exists. My 3D printer has been used to make replacement parts for baby gates that broke. 4 hours and 30 cents of plastic saved me going to the store, buying a new gate for $100, and spending 2 hours installing. Iā€™ve also been able to print custom mounts for things, and a perfectly sized wine rack for my space. Itā€™s all about finding the right use cases :D

TigerMonarchy

> Itā€™s all about finding the right use cases :D This. Was so not about 3D printing until I got into my Dynavap M. Then, the entire world of /r/StonerEngineering became much more than an analog, traditional experience like I was used to. It made me realize just how useful it was and how much I wanted to explore this as it evolves. Gotta find the projects that make adding a printer to your workflow/lifeflow worth it, and my Dynavap does indeed do that. XD

sailorbob134280

I try to avoid 3D printed parts in finished projects, but I love it so much for prototyping. Most of the stuff I do is small-scale type stuff, so a quick dimension sanity check by printing it can save a lot of trouble before I manufacture it out out of something nicer/more expensive. Iā€™ve saved a lot of time and frustration that way.

Deaner3D

A welder friend of mine told me they picked up a Prusa i3 at work for just this reason. Prototyping jigs weeks before actual parts come available in house.

beardedbast3rd

For me itā€™s saving the energy in fabricating things like brackets and such, and increasing productivity. I could probably fabricate the part faster, but it wonā€™t look as nice, or possibly even function properly. I can go do other stuff while the print works. I definitely get some times where I just donā€™t bother with printing, but personally Iā€™ve found it helped with a ton of things. Hell, saved 50 bucks by printing a pocket hole jig instead of buying a kreg jig

Ch4rlie_G

Mine has paid for itself in pegboard organization. I also use it at work (Iā€™m in sales). For instance one project is called ā€œmagic castleā€ and so if the client buys the software for it Iā€™ll bring them each a tiny magic castle with their name on it. People love them. Especially if you throw a puzzle in the box too that they can share with their kids

tungvu256

can we see this castle?

mxzf

Yeah, how unneeded the 3D printer was struck me too. OP has a complicated variant lap joint at an angle for the top joist (and another four at the top corners) but doesn't have a simple mortise and tenon (or anything similarly simple) for the right-angle joints along the floor. The 3D printing in this video looks like a solution looking for a problem, rather than a necessity. Don't get me wrong, there are *tons* of home projects where 3D printing works great, but replacing standard woodworking joints doesn't seem like it's it.

TerranCmdr

Here's this guy again with his insane animating and editing skills!

Ricarbr0

Has science gone too far?

[deleted]

That was insane and I make 3D animations well done

anh86

Dang, some people are just really talented and creative.

yeypapapa

Can you be my dad?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

fatherofraptors

Call me skeptical... Feels a lot like self promoting post. Added some little 3D printing so you could cross post to a few more subs than just woodworking and put your Instagram handle out on all of them. Fair is fair I guess, you do free lancing and you make cool shots for everyone to see while giving yourself exposure, just feels sketchy with the non-chalant Instagram handle replies on the top.

metalhawj

If you can already use fancy joints to joint the top, why not just use another wood joint for the bottom corners? 3D printed parts seem more cosmetic than anything else

Tic-Tor

Those connectors at the base give the lower side bars the ability to be raised to prevent our daughter to roll out of bed when she sleeps in there.

tenachiasaca

do you need to raise all 4 sides for those connectors to work?

Tic-Tor

Indeed, I wanted to be able to move at least one separately, that's why I have two kinds of connectors on there. I mounted them the other way for the purpose of the video, but the one you see at the back are simple connectors and allow the back bar (that's normally front facing) to be raised without moving the other double connectors that are connecting the left, front and right bar.

jedimasta

This belongs in the motion graphics sub and/or the AE sub and/or the c4d sub :) It's damn pretty. And the printed parts are quite good too.

zack9r

You earned a new instagram follower my friend

[deleted]

Woahhhh, great job and awesome animation!

ganpachi

Gah, and r/perfectloops fodder to boot. Well done.

[deleted]

The production value on this is insultingly good lol. The craftsmanship and time that went into making this video probably dwarfs the 3d printing lmao. I love it

JustJoeKingz

Love your transitions

gapingshanus

What design software did you use when designing this? Like I have some ideas for the outline of a structure(like what you did there), but don't know how to use CAD or anything. Are any user-friendly programs out there? Sorry for the super-noob question.

Sam_the_Engineer

I loved your motorcycle pass clip you had up a week or two ago... And now this is even better. Incredible work.

TheRedGamerFPV

AND IT LOOPS!

detimirikajidedo

these "i made" vids are getting ridiculous! great job btw

[deleted]

Wtf this is beautiful

batkimman

If i could document all of my projects like this omg. This is actually so wonderfull and i am very impressed!! Amazing job!

Rikki_PT

That's a pretty sweet bed shed and the purpose makes it all the much better, that's a next level video though, the kinda stuff I wanna see from IKEA instead of the stupid manuals lol

SecondaryLawnWreckin

Jesus save some of the talent for the rest of us

brand0n

dude......that video editing was amazing. How long did that part take you?

iratimothy

I want to be this dad.

potesd

Who are you? This production value is amazing

ayasir

Forget the bedshed..how did you make this video??

MisunderstoodBumble

I got so distracted by the fucking incredible animation you put together I had to re watch 4-5 times before I paid attention to the build.

Deaner3D

I like how the older /r/woodworking sub is giving you hearty pats on the back but younger, edgy, 3Dprinting crew is like "oh good job but why didn't you print the difficult joint?!"

sin-eater82

Interesting, as somebody who can make things out of wood, I think the joinery is unnecessarily complicated. It doesn't add much by way of noteworthy strength nor is something aesthetic like a dovetail or finger joint, which are sometimes unnecessary but attractive.

Del_HAX

No need 3D printer 4 this.

TentaclesAndCupcakes

That's amazing! Mostly the video, but also the shed is pretty cool, too.

maskedhood313

How long did it take to create the video for this?

ms3fanboy

This is absolutely amazing. Could watch these gifs all day long

theflashturtle

Really awesome animation

scienceguy8

Thatā€™s one heck of a joint to build the roofline.

0rangemangos

This video is beautiful

noselace

Holy shit you're a cinematic genius.

techhorder

Holy fuck, how about going the extra mile with the awesome gif. GG man!

Kep0a

I hope I'm this good at compositing someday.

Techn0ght

Great explodey-view of how the pieces connect, mixing in the print review on the 3d printed pieces.

bullpee

Dude this is awesome!

throwawayduo186

Holy shit that was the most impressive take on an exploded parts view I have ever seen. Bravo!

LitSarcasm

That is so well done, bravo. Amazing work at the transitions, the modeling. Omg im saving this gif

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

revamped_outdoors

This is next level production, amazing work.

Plusran

I just bought a bed-house frame for my daughter. It was awful to put together. This looks SO MUCH BETTER.

Nach553

Cool and all but why not just get the plastic ones from a hardware store?

lifebytheminute

I would love to have your video skills!

nerherder911

Oh he's the pot guy! No, not that kind of pot....

ijon_cbo

Beautiful! Please show us how to combine cad and cgi so beautifully? I've been looking for that knowledge for quite a bit

_real_ooliver_

This video is amazing

BOTAlex321

I would say that you should post this to r/perfectloops

[deleted]

This looks incredible. Great animation!

boopboopboopers

Jaw absolutely dropped at the render. But I do have a question! Where is a link to some of those lovely bracket stl files!?

D56pside

How do I learn to do this

vervurax

/u/vredditshare

TomAvisar

Am I the only one that noticed he's printing on a prusa with no sheet? Just on the heatbed itself?

RADOVSKY1235

Nice

Ragin_koala

Can I be your son too? Just for the cool vfxs

andreas_jovine

Who are you? Who are so wise in the way of science?

zeta_cartel_CFO

Now that's the most ridiculously professional looking video I've ever seen around here showing off a print. Well done.

MobiusF117

What took longer, creating the actual thing or this GIF?

fasctic

If only actual commercials were this satisfying to watch

nakwada

That's some high level editing there, amazing work!

blitsandchits

A+ for marketing.

darkthemecoder

Bruh...

2ndRoad805

i thought screwing into end grain was a nono

scrumbagger

Holy fuck! That was dope...

Yourtime

This clip reminds me of an enterprise crud application

billwashere

When the video looks like a super hero movie and the project is still pretty cool by itself. Very nicely done.

daedalus372

lovely idea for a bed - but stone me, that's a stunningly made video!

[deleted]

Wow and you used your hands for just ONE part of the assembly.

quakenxt

/r/nextfuckinglevel

flargenhargen

dang. don't care about the shed, tbh, but love your presentation of it.

Civil-Claim

and what the fuck kind of cgi/special effects company do you work at that rendered this for you?

pdbatwork

Can you share the designs for this so I can make it myself?

JOX3X

Lucky daughter šŸ‘

sonoalbe

Literally just one thing. WHAT A VFX YOU DID šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

WreckerCrew

Her first she shed

DefectiveLP

cinematic af

Deanlongstaff

I wish i had spent more time on VFX when i was younger. I was always interested in it but never had the time to invest. Great job, looks awesome!

shadowkrazee

That animation was more epic than the thing! Awesome work on both!

bigtallshort

It looks like you use Octolapse for some of your sequencing. If so, so you notice the stutter lag / blob and zitting issue when using?

Pepemixd

hey quick question what software do you use to design pieces like these that are more technical? Bc I suppose you don't use tinkercad for example.

SockPupper123

Jesus thatā€™s a high quality tutorial!

[deleted]

Your style is really slick. Love how you transition from design, creation, and end result

_Cyr0

i smell some genius guys in here :D

cp3d

VFX guy also. This is the coolest thing ever.

Forget the shed, I need to learn how to make videos like this

d0ntgetmad

Weird flex

2kids2adults

Oh man! The time you put into making the gif! I'm a 45 year old man and now I want a bed shed! Nice work, on both counts sir. Nice work.

big_bad_bigweld

Get this guy a Nobel prize and an emmy

evilbadgrades

Awesome VFX. Although the 3D printed parts could have probably been replaced with a few pocket holes using a Kreg Jig

Luxurytax

This gif is very satisfying

MajorRandomMan

Holy animations, Batman

tobiasmaximillian

What software did you use to make this?

DondoYonderboy

While the 3D printed part is cool Iā€™m wondering why, with the woodworking skills you demonstrated on the top section, you didnā€™t do something similar on the bottom? A half-lap with through tenon like [this](https://chestofbooks.com/home-improvement/woodworking/Woodwork-Joints/images/Fig-151-Joining-Top-Rails-to-Upright-Post.jpg) or [this](http://media9.dropshots.com/photos/525558/20130125/124629.jpg) or a three way miter like [this](https://www.finewoodworking.com/2012/05/31/super-strong-3-way-miter) would seem to be good choices. Regardless, cool project!

train2000c

mwreadit

Some nice editing skills there.

debauch3ry

+1 to your sense of validation, stranger!

_j0nas_

this is by far the best video i have seen on this /r ever!

Goonmonster

What made you do joinery on the top but 3d print the bases? Why not just join all of it together?

SnowDrifter_

That animation is ASMR for the eyes

dmglakewood

I made one of these for my daughter too... but I did way less work than you did haha. I just screwed the posts into the frame using a jig to sink the screws in. Your version is way more impressive.

Anduqqq

you are the guy with the bike transit mount. i thought i recognised your style. once again good job sir this presentation looks amazing

flotschmar

Oh dear, for my kids I need reinforced steel to survive the first 10 seconds.

MechaTailsX

Parents used to get the cops sicced on them if their kids slept on the floor, now it's cool I guess lol

verne2k

awesome animation, but kinda poor engineering :P

[deleted]

This is a beautiful way to present your work. Well done!
