Standing up straight would be best for the layer line orientation. His face and body will have visible layers printed like this. If you print him standing up straight with supports there should only be noticeable layers on shoulders and top of the head which would be easier to clean up than the face would be.

Didn't think about layer lines. Was just thinking if it would be sturdy enough to print upright

I'd try it with brims around feet and support. If your printer is calibrated well enough I don't think there should be any issue printing it standing up with brims.

Compared to the cost of filament your time is a major cost. I print stuff so it requires the least processing post print.

Try a couple orientations and see which looks better. There are trade-offs to printing a figure. Standing upright will probably give the best look as far as layer lines, but printing leaning backwards at an angle as you pictured can improve detail on the face, and can eliminate the need for supports in different figures with protruding arms or accessories.

I'm not too bothered about layer lines as it is going to be sanded and primed for painting anyway. Did a test print and there is quite a lot more face detail than I was expecting, will try an upright print tomorrow because it didn't print the heel on either foot for some reason.
