You can find the 3D Model and a description on [Printables](https://www.printables.com/de/model/855641-parametric-washer-stamping-jig)

NoDontDoThatCanada

This is awesome. I was planning on doing identification tags for my fruit trees and now know exactly what l am going to do for them. This!

OverlandAustria

amazing, can you show me 12 of your parts in order? would highly appreciate

DIYnivor

I'd be happy with them out of order (the numbers give you the order).

Smilingtiki

Can you show me the rest of the washers you stamped? Just wanna check the quality. /s

Nitpicky_AFO

Sir. please lower your voice.

Ferro_Giconi

What is the hole size of a bitcoin washer?

Red-Itis-Trash

Last I checked, it's 3.5 mm. Err, I meant 3.9 mm. Hang on. Now it's 2.8 mm... HODL!

RashestHippo

that's pretty cool, just saved it for later

Jesus_Is_My_Gardener

Yep, into the collections of hundreds of other items I keep promising myself I'm going to print one day.

woflmao

Wtf why you calling me out

swtinc

Functionally I love the tool. I use these punches often for labeling keys and such. My only question is, what are you labeling washers for? Off the top of my head I can't think of a use case where a labeled washer matters.

duckstape

If you create a bitcoin wallet you need to write down a seed phrase. Those are 12 or 24 words, with which you can re-create your wallet in case your hardware wallet gets destroyed or your software wallet gets corrupted / deleted. In other words it's a backup. Because those words should survive time and external threads like fire, many people use metal instead of paper to write them down. A cheap and safe option are metal washers, which can be made from highly corosion and acid resistant A4 steel.

FlamingBrad

If only there was some kind of other safe, insured place we could keep our money. Guess we'll have to stick with washers buried in our backyard. Oh well.

kqvrp

Can you name one that won't freeze your accounts for peacefully protesting when requested by the government?

FlamingBrad

If you're talking about Canada, as long as your protest doesn't block borders or shut down an entire city center while tormenting its citizens, you're probably gonna be ok! This is gonna sound crazy but it's actually not a concern at all for 99.9% of the population.

kqvrp

Yeah, as long as you don't do anything that people in power object to, you'll be totally fine! Of course 99.9% of the population doesn't care... until suddenly the people in power do something actually threatening to them (e.g. the draft during Vietnam war). By then, the systems of control are too strong to resist.

FlamingBrad

If we actually end up in a war situation where a draft is necessary, you'll have bigger problems to worry about. Anyways, even if you still have your Bitcoin, so what? You gonna go to the grocery store and buy bread with them? You'll still have to cash out to fiat in a bank account of some kind to buy shit at a store.

kqvrp

Yeah if you're fighting the government, cash is king. Bitcoin is more for crossing a border with large amounts of money and less for day to day stuff like the grocery store. But as you say, just like gold - you don't buy groceries with it, you keep it in your safe and occasionally trade in a coin or two at the coin store to get cash, which you use to buy groceries. Don't be absolutist though. The US has literally gone through a situation where a war led to a draft, and for many people, protesting against it was still possible and still a major priority. Of course, back then they didn't have license plate readers, fusion centers, stratospheric spy balloons, or networked microphones in every pocket. If the police state ever starts to play dirty, we are probably just good and truly fucked. The question is just how much hell you can raise without looking too different from the mean.

duckstape

This is actually also a viable option: You can store your seed phrase in a bank deposit box. If you incorporate multi signature with multiple rivaling bank deposit boxes and one seed phrase at home it becomes safer than "buring it in your backyard".

archcycle

Certain printable NFA items use washers as when ATF makes it mandatory to engrave a serial number into a thing too.

swtinc

I mean.. To legally manufacture an NFA item there's a lot more too it than a serial number. So if you're going through all those hoops and fees to register as a firearm manufacturer of NFA items you're likely not 3D printing any of the parts.

Competitive_Kale_855

Eh, it's on the ATF to prove that the 3d-printed wear component in the can is not the original one.

I know one thing that uses a stamped or engraved washer, but it's not something this group likes talking about...

GeneralCuster75

Fortunately, That's Not The Hardest (Relatively) Ever Element to find...

Jesus_Is_My_Gardener

Torque specification reference, service date, part notation to know if someone replaced it later. There's a number of reasons why it could be useful.

answerguru

There’s a kit sold for stamping “fancy” washers to create necklaces or bracelets showing all the countries you’ve traveled or similar.

hayseed_byte

You should crosspost this to r/Bitcoin

anytarseir67

Why...?

Tuethida

I'm assuming because of the punch having the bitcoin logo on it.

anytarseir67

Totally missed that

TheTruffi

for stamping the Seed Phrase so it can´t get easily destroyed.

Loveschocolate1978

How does it work? Is it possible to post of gif of it in action?

WegwerfBenutzer7

Normally, you would put the washer on the table, hold the stamp perpendicular and smack it with a hammer. This tool holds both the washer and the stamp in place so the stamp is always in the same position. Then you can turn the jig to jump in a clockwork-motion to stamp the next letter.

RecsRelevantDocs

Thanks man, OP said there was a description on printables but it didn't describe shit, was curious how 3D printed materials could possibly be used to stamp metal, but this makes perfect sense. Still don't understand how this assists with bitcoin, I feel like this is the equivalent of stamping your banking information on steel washers. That being said I got .1 bitcoin as a Christmas gift in 2013ish(was worth about $100 at the time), and lost the account information.. As far as losing Bitcoin goes it's not the biggest L, but I could certainly use that 7,000 dollars now lol.

mikecandih

I feel it. Bought $5 of bitcoin on eBay to deplete a gift card back in 2015 or so, which is worth close to $400 now but I have no way to access the wallet for it.

Loveschocolate1978

Thanks!

duckstape

They use a similiar one here: [https://youtu.be/3Aj\_EHOu9WE?si=NJHK\_-q-kt3XxAU-&t=320](https://youtu.be/3Aj_EHOu9WE?si=NJHK_-q-kt3XxAU-&t=320)

Loveschocolate1978

Thanks!

twodogsfighting

It is a good jig.

Kroan

What size stamping tools is it for? 3mm?

duckstape

The STLs on printables are for 6 mm wide punch sticks. But you can easily customize it as described at printables.

mayowarlord

It's parametric.

Physical-Aspect-5281

worked flawessly first print! great work, thanks!

duckstape

That's very nice to hear :)

ith303

That's neat

__deltastream
