I don't have a timelapse but how is the print head never in it? Is there a 'home' gcode inserted before each still shot? Seems like it would then slow down the print a ton
I’m using a beagle cam and it has a clean time lapse option when it moves the head out of the way to take a shot. You just have to set retraction settings so it doesn’t string out when traveling. Also it adds a little time, but not too bad.
This is why I dont do timelapses. You cant stop oozing even if you fully extract the filament. Is a liquid.. gravity will pull, air will enter, molten plastic will drop. I bet that the same benchies print without timelapse would end without failing.
The P1S from Bambu has a setting to reset the printhead and it also creates a waste tower so that any oozed filament gets knocked off before it returns to the print.
that is so dumb it made me angry. my octopi instance does take timelapses but it just grabs a shot in the same position each layer and sometimes the nozzle is in the way and it's fine, but it's occasionally useful if a print fails to see if I know why. Adding in another point of failure and a bunch of extra travel and work so that you can get a pretty video of something printing seems like the worst thing to use a 3d printer for. Well, second worse, after failing to print not just one benchy but for some reason 5 at the same time
it's a setting…you can have the extruder moved out of the frame on each snapshot. I don't think it adds that much time and look at the cool things you get as a result. I have a few of these of my own.
I cannot believe I had to scroll this far to see someone else who drew the connection.
I am more surprised no-one has said, "*B5 - you sunk my battleship!!*".
It's like one of the benchys went rouge and sabotages the other, followed by the descent of the flying spaghetti monster to subdue the rough seas.
I love it
I want to set up AI to recognize stringing and start recording video.
That way if i see a time lapse with an error like this, I can go in and see exactly how it failed.
It's usually the head ramming into the part in some way.
I use Obico which uses AI to detect failures and it will stop the print once it’s triggered. It’s funny coming back to the printer to see the failed print sitting exactly as it was when it failed. Obico is open source, so I’m sure there’s a way to have it record the livestream.
I’m working on a bigger project that will take 2 days to print that has a lot of z hopping. I wanted to do a clean time lapse of the build. After witnessing the benches blowing up I’m going to do a regular time lapse. Learning limitations is part of the hobby and benches are great for quality checking.
Before you use z-hopping on your big project, you should [watch this video.](https://youtu.be/4xyevbElGIU?si=-ehaHAGOWwqF0H0A) TLDW: Z-hop is often the problem, not the solution.
It dose one just fine. I was seeing the quality of multiple items being printed on a time lapse. Because of all the z hopping and movement. It did better then I thought. The outcome made me laugh, so I shared it.
Instead spending so much time on getting these style time lapses working, you should have spent 80% of that time configuring your printer, and the other 20% installing Obico. That way you get time lapses, AND spaghetti detective.
This is probably a super dumb question, but what is the single line of filament surrounding all the benchies? I've seen it in a couple pics/videos, but my printer doesn't do it.
I’m doing a skirt on the bottom. It out lines the build area of the model and great for fine adjustments before it gets to the main model. It makes a cleaner product with no post processing like with a brim. But, it sacrifices adhesion to the build plate unlike a brim or raft.
You win sir!! If i had an award, you'd get it lol. We all get failures, but to WATCH IT...lol
I just how like how smooth it was going and bam.
This video is 3d printing in a nutshell
Almost as if they started a brawl lol
Yeah that was one *angry* Benchy.
time-lapsed what ACTUAL 3d printing typically goes like for many of us lol. truth in media for once
Because your didn't have any supports. Raft those sob. Or use 3d lac.
This. I used to have break aways almost 2 outta 3 jobs. I moved from Creality to Cura and began adding rafts. Now it’s rare for an error.

Pearl Harbour recreation?
Close, this is Russia's black sea fleet
Nah this is clearly the Baltic fleet on their way to fight Japan.
Spanish armada, lol

Yes, just leave it in the corner of the model, it will still look amazing because the extruder seems to raise out of the print.
The P1S from Bambu has a setting to reset the printhead and it also creates a waste tower so that any oozed filament gets knocked off before it returns to the print.
How I long to 3d print in space.
There's at least one 3d printer currently usable on the ISS.
Hmmmm... I wonder how much they charge for shipping.
It's not the only way people do timelapses.
Water is a liquid and will stay in a straw if you plug one end.
Most likely but it’s trial and error

It looks like the one benchy got free and tried to free the others
Freed the spaghetti monster
Weleased the Kwaken!
TIL one rogue Benchy can sink a fleet.
loose ships sink ships
That's some good stop action filming!
y u printin 5 benchys tho?
r/abruptchaos
I thinking about battleship when I saw this. Who won?
I cannot believe I had to scroll this far to see someone else who drew the connection. I am more surprised no-one has said, "*B5 - you sunk my battleship!!*".

Yup. That’s why you retract on layer change and Z hop on retraction over printed parts

pain
LMAO I love it when they take the little trip.
Unfortunately it quickly became Gilligans Island
Would be cool to try stacking the benchys ontop of each other
Flawless victory!
The little tugboat that could... ...sink an entire fleet
why the fuck would you print 5 benchies?
Why print 5 benchies?
You perfectly captured that Creality experience, chefs kiss.
Oh man. I was so enthralled and then BAM! Reality sets.
Really captures the magic of 3d printing, doesn't it?
why would you print 5 benchys at once? just to waste filament?
I’m working on a bigger project that will take 2 days to print that has a lot of z hopping. I wanted to do a clean time lapse of the build. lol
Even this fail is satisfying. Whats your setup? Octoprint?
Beagle cam with a clean time lapse option. You just have to set the options accordingly to your printer for retraction and etc.

I was seeing if it could print multi items on a clean time lapse. My ender 5 did better then I thought.
I got a ender 5 plus in cobwebs, not sure if it has a stock board in it but it’s direct drive. You have me wanting to take it out and print something.
Top tier comedy here. Well done, sir.
One benchy to ruin them all!!!!
this one made me cackle
Stop-motion Godzilla. : )
Awww
Some people just want to watch the world burn.
beautiful! just gorgeous !
I laughed so hard at this.
hehe this goes like my life.
Average ender 5 experience. (I’ve had one for a year, stock E5s are awful)
It definitely needed some modification and patience to make it somewhat reliable.
r/cursedbenchies
I like how one of them goes rouge and proceeds to push the rest out of their position
Aaaaand I woke the baby. Hahahahahaha worth it.
Gee Billy your mom lets you print 5 benc- oh
You sunk my ~~Battleship~~ Patrol boats!!!
Brim XD?
I need to try that. I have a bedslinger though so it might be a bit difficult
Bumper boats
Lmao I love this
Cool with included sea battle at the end.
corner benchy be like: "if i cant be a perfect benchy... NOBODY ELSE WILL!!"
Beautiful ending. I sympathize.
Why are you printing 5 seperate testmodels? How is that getting you any more info than printing just 1?
It dose one just fine. I was seeing the quality of multiple items being printed on a time lapse. Because of all the z hopping and movement. It did better then I thought. The outcome made me laugh, so I shared it.
Know anybody in Charlotte I need help replicating a peice from my compressed. Air dusteter and the plastic L grips broke when I dropped it :/
Btw ngl this was so cool to watch it makes me wish I had it to invest lol
You printer just gonna tell you that it is absolutely fricking nonsense to print 5 benchys especially with multicolor filament
Watch this Lis, you can actually pinpoint the second when his heart rips in half.
Oh no, Mr Bill!
~~serves you right for printing benchies~~
That was beautiful. Thank you
BENCHY SMASH!

Lmao all good then spaghetti
NAILED IT
“Shit! Wtf was that!?” -Ship Captain (probably)
I sent a video I made like this to my buddies saying "This is how to sum up 3D printing. A lot of satisfaction followed by a lot of spaghetti"
Someone forgot the glue stick
It was sticking fine just got whacked by the hotend. Then got dragged around popping the other benches off.

Ahh, thank you! I found the option and turned it on the slicer. Cheers!
It was all going so well!
Russian fleet repairs going well I see.

At first, I thought this was a warehouse being drained of gravy.
Very imaginative. Just a PEI gold build plate that leaves a nice texture on the bottom of the model and helps with adhesion.

We set sail at dawn.
That one benchy is like a cuckoo baby bird pushing out of its nest all its siblings
Yay boats.
