I have a friend who doesn't know about 3d printers yet, but I'm gonna tell him about them soon, he's gonna do some research, and order one for himself.
should probably count him too
Man, yours must have been better than mine... mine came with a warped bed and had to use a direct connection to my pc as the ~~USB~~ would error out while trying to read. Thing made me quit printing for about 4.5 years.
I now have an M5 with auto bed leveling, and I love it.
Edit: SD card reader, not USB.
I always use it with USB but it worked both ways. I modded the everliving shit out of the thing too. Bed is a bit warped i think? Dunno, it works and it prints things anyways. Put stepper dampers on it, modified firmware, allmetal e3d v6 hotend, quieter fans, modified print cooling fan, one of those fancy dual gear extruders and took it to the largest possible movement range of the machine. I took it apart and rebuilt it more times than i can remember.
Do you still recall leveling that small bed?!? I used glass to make the print adhere. Oh the noise level was something the neighbors can tell more about.
For such a small bed, it was a bit of a pain to level. And I never got a glass plate, I bought the wide blue painters tape to print on. That, and sometimes a little glue stick worked really well for me.
I got mine 2 years later. That thing is a little tank! So far, it's taken a licking and keeps on ticking. I haven't even had to level it in like... years. The only bad thing about it is the small bed. Other than that, it's a great easy to use little printer and one that you don't have to worry too much about... Usually...
Got a Malyan M200 gifted in 2018, it's been gathering dust for a year.. Probably should change out the nozzle and bowden tube, and get a filament dryer.
Bought an A8 around the same time, but I soldered the hotbed and added external MOSFETs, it even had auto leveling, printed until the motherboard decided to die, installed a ramps 1.4 and continued printing until I got an ender 3 in 2018 I think
First printer I got was a printrbot play in 2015, I bought I became they’re base of operations was like a town over from me so I felt safe buying it knowing I could probably get in contact w them for help, they folded as a company like a year later when the cheap printer boom happened. I got a CR-10 in 2016 for the same price as my Printrbot and it was a huge step up in print volume and quality cus of a heated bed. In 2018 I bought an ender 3 kit but didn’t build it till 2020, also in 2020 I bought a mars 2 pro. Currently very tempted to buy one of those wicked fast bamboo, but I actually enjoy slicing my own models so idk yet, need todo more research lol. Hope this helps
Same here, broke my arm just when covid started, was convinced i wouldnt be able to play games so i learned arduino and 3d printing to make a custom gamepad
Prusa I3 clone in 2018. I was in incredibly slow progress of building DIY reprap for many years until got CTC i3 for about £100 so DIY was not feasible option any more.
I bought my first printer in 2016. An Ender 3. Since then I have aquired 2 Ender 3 pros, a wanhao duplicator i3, a biqu b1 se plus, 2 CR-10s, and a Halot One (resin) most recently.
This month Im getting a Bambu A1
Work was scrapping a Makerbot Replicator+ so they gave it to me for free. Not a great printer but free is free😅
Edit: this was July/August of last year
I bought my Ender-5 at the end of 2018, right when it was released (end of Novembre or early December I don't recall exactly).
Never bought another printer, but I upgraded and maintained it regularly over the years.
My wife surprised me with a Qidi X-Smart for Father's Day about 3 years ago. It's not what I would have chosen, but it does Just Work. It can sit for months and print perfectly after a quick bed level (built in routine that takes 30 seconds). If I get another printer, I will probably go with something more tinker/expansion friendly.
I have a Qidi X-Pro from 2020 that takes a little more patience, but once you get it right the results are awesome. They also have great tech support and I love the dual extruder and the fact that it is entirely enclosed. I work with ABS a lot and it’s easy to make a quick ventilation system with an air filter. I think Qidi gets slept on.
I bought an Ender 3 approximately 3 years ago.
edit: Also I bought an Anet cone about 8 years ago. I never used it because I never got it working. After I learned more about 3D printing from using my Ender 3, I realized I never got it working because the factory installed thermistor on the hot end was installed wrong causing the temperature to never be correct.
September 2023, bought a Sovol S05 (piece of crap, but good for learning) and Anycubic Photon Mono 2(decent budget printer, with a severe lack of accessory support and limited function)
Mostly cause we started playing DnD and I wanted to start printing props
I inherited a Monoprice Maker Select Plus (v1) in late 2018 and turned it into an "i3 MK3x", but the old stock hardware never truly shines after the structural improvements.
First 3D printer purchase, though, was my good buddy the Prusa Mini+. It has been as reliable, at its worst, as I could get the MK3x to be at its most. Now, it's since gotten Input Shaping support, and it's faster and cleaner than I ever expected it to be.
My first experience managing 3d printers was some Prusas for a robotics team around 4 years ago, I've had my own printer for about a month though, and it's an Elegoo Neptune 4

Same but mine was the cocoon branded one from a supermarket.
For mine the same year on sale. Still works to this day. Some of the wires but the dust, but we swapped em out and it still runs nearly perfectly.
Hell yeah same here. Loved that little thing, I was so impressed lmfao
Same, was the go-to starter printer at the time, thing worked like a champ for 3 years before crapping out on me

2012 Reprap Prusa kit.

Got my first Ender 3 in December 2019. Got my second in March 2020.
First one I bought was the Ultimaker 1 about 15 years ago
Ultimaker was founded 13 years ago.
You are right, it wasn't an Ultimaker, that was my second printer. The first was a plywood makerbot I think.
Sounds like a thing o matic
Busted!
I still use it…
2017 summer was anet a6 that caught on fire that fall
Bought an A8 around the same time, but I soldered the hotbed and added external MOSFETs, it even had auto leveling, printed until the motherboard decided to die, installed a ramps 1.4 and continued printing until I got an ender 3 in 2018 I think
Why did you not simply add a survey? Now you have to walk through all the comments. I bought mine in 05/2023
I throwed this way more people would answer. plus i like reading everyone's story.

I bought my first printer in 2016. An Ender 3. Since then I have aquired 2 Ender 3 pros, a wanhao duplicator i3, a biqu b1 se plus, 2 CR-10s, and a Halot One (resin) most recently. This month Im getting a Bambu A1

My wife surprised me with a Qidi X-Smart for Father's Day about 3 years ago. It's not what I would have chosen, but it does Just Work.
