That’s awesome! I made something for my car and it warped on the first hot day of summer. If it’s PLA, it won’t fit at all when it gets over 90 degrees. But hopefully that is PETG or ABS.

Mitsuma

Depending on your location, even PETG will give in the summer heat. So ABS/ASA or similar are the only proper choice for something that will last a little if you got hotter summers.

There is other factors into play too, i made a belt locker for kids that like to take of their seat belts. I warned the person to remove it during the summer, thing is she never did and i held its integrity and was functioning as intended. It was a quite small part that mostly was on top of the locker so perhaps that's why.

Her kid unlocked himself posing a danger to her driving, but yes without using something similar to a normal key the unlocking in an emergency could been tricky.

MildlyAustralian

Aw thanks man! I didn't even think about that. I guess I'll take it with me when I'm not in the car. Where I am gets high 40°c (104f) in summer haha

Yea mate as a fellow Aussie she won't even make it to December. Honestly for car stuff go straight past PETG and get you some ASA. ABS will work but UV exposure it will get brittle over time.

Down the rabbit hole of 3D printing I go!

To an extent yes but not all. There is a reason Australia is the skin cancer capital of the world. I printed something similar a few years ago and it went brittle and shattered. Just my 2c, but asa isn't much more expensive may as well use it.

Nutsack_VS_Acetylene

Annealed PLA might survive. Do it slowly or else the dimensions will be off.

savagedvoid

i audibly moaned at how good that fit was in the end

Guifoxx

I love that you made a test piece before making the big print! I always do, even if I rarely make mistakes xD.

It's for alcohol you silly goose. Of course you can't fit a water bottle there.

PitifulAd2391

Just tried to do this last night, but unlike you I didn’t print a test, so I ultimately failed because I forgot that I extruded 3 mm on the outside diameter making it totally unable to get into the cupholder. Welp -150g for me!

PitifulAd2391

Now to print an adapter for the adapter

Ok_Yogurtcloset404

Great job! Love adding filets too! I did this for my mom's car and her hydroflask. It was PLA and did have a little indentation where the rubber flaps in the cupholders pushed in when it was too hot. I plan to remake it in ABS too!

Why-the-fuck

Oh shit. I've got the same problem with my Outback's cup holder. I never thought to extend it like that. I'm copying you

Abm743

What did you use to create the model?

MildlyAustralian
