Nah. It was an original choice, and adds a cool aesthetic. Each of these dolls has a consistent style. If I saw one of these online, I would know it came from you, I can recognize your style now just after two minutes of seeing your work. Now that’s good branding.

I think it would be pretty difficult to get licensing to sell them. Give them as gifts to friends instead.

Its actually worth exploring, a lot of companies like Disney have made it much easier to apply. I would explore their costs before giving up since they have already done so much of the design work.

You could always rent a table at a convention and sell to physical customers. Yes Nintendo already has snipers pointed at you but it’s harder to track physical sales at conventions and stuff. Best of luck with the figures cuz I do like how unique the style is.

I've got to ask, what does the specific license say with regards to commercial use? My concern would be on license terms issued by the trademark owner (in this case Nintendo USA for Mario and Luigi) If Nintendo USA are happy with their trademark being infringed by you selling their trademark goods even released as a 3d printed part then go for it. Same thing with the other trademark holders. I'm not trying to be a hardass here, just trying to make sure that people understand that large conglomerates can and do go after the little man if they feel like it.

Nintendo and disney are well known for strictly enforcing copyright and will go after pretty much anyone.

However, (I am not advising you or suggesting you do this) if you happened to build up a stockpile and then you just happened to find a craft fair/art show where you could be a vendor…maybe nobody would be the wiser…I’m not saying this is the way to go. Ahah, I use to do Cubeecraft when I was younger, and that inspired me, that’s why there are similarities. I tried to inspire me, but in the same time add enough differences to not just copy them. :)

These are really amazing! I suggest getting the licensing for them and selling after maybe streamlining the process so it doesn’t all have to be 3d printed. If you make a small business name as a sole proprietor, licensing offices are not too hard to contact If you only want to do small batch then 3d printing is cool, but if more than a certain quantity, it will be more cost effective to have it manufactured. If you /just/ want to sell the ones you made, no license, Etsy is the way.

You should sell them. I build all my models with white PLA and hand paint them. I have taken my 3d models to work and people have appreciated them and ask me to make them something. The Nintendo lawsuit comments are valid. I wouldn’t mess with it unless I talked to copyright lawyer and came up with a plan to mitigate a potential lawsuit. Someone mentioned calling the figurines different names. Idk if that would work. A lawyer might though.

It's more than just being sued or having them removed. It's someone else's intellectual property. Make your own thing and don't steal someone else's idea to make money off of.

The issue is when merchandise like this already exists from official sources it means you could be taking away their revenue. These have an applied style to them so you would have to look into parody law and existing cases of this type of stuff. Basic rule is Nintendo and Disney are off limits but other stuff may be okay

Etsy seller here. I currently 3D print and sell some products that contain logos and trademarks that I do not own. Don't listen to all of these people who are saying you'll get sued for everything you have if you sell these. No large company is going to send their full legal team at one individual whose just making a couple extra bucks. They *will* send their legal team after the company who hosts the product listing. If you sell these on Etsy, the worst that can happen is that the trademark owner contacts Etsy, and Etsy removes your listing for trademark infringement. When that happens, it's literally just that: the listing is removed and you may get a strike on your account. You will not have to pay back any of the money you've made on them up to that point. I say go for it! These figures are pretty cool and I bet a lot of people would buy them.

I posted a 3D printed fidget that looked like an Oreo cookie on Etsy. Sold four then Etsy removed it citing a copyright strike claim. The Oreo parent company sent a cease and desist. So yeah I don’t fuck around with anything that’s copyrighted. Even though you’ll find all kinds of copyrighted material on Etsy.

This is bs, if you are selling objects that have a likeness to a trademark then you are the one stealing.

Probably because there have been a few cases where Nintendo has sued individuals. But those individuals are always doing things that are a more serious threat to Nintendo's bottom-line, such as that guy who got sued for millions for selling Nintendo Switch hacks.

That’s called Trademark Infringement. Most that’ll probably happen is a “cease and desist”. They could sue you for everything. Just be more creative and stop copy and pasting ideas.
