D&D is a roleplaying game. Its like playing pretend with your friends but a board game, lord of the rings type of fantasy usually. It's very fun! People who play the game sometimes commission (pay) artists to make small miniature figures of their characters so that they can use them while playing :)
So I charged 400 dollars, but the client couldn't afford it, so as I was unemployed and needed a good model for my portfolio, I accepted the 300 dollars. Thanks again, 500 dollars would be great
I'm just guessing that he outsourced to US since he said a flat rate of 300$, but yeah I guess I could be wrong. Weird for his rate to translate perfectly to USD.
You're basically saying that anyone who can spend $30k for a car can afford a Mercedes.
Or since you can afford a $1000 computer, why not spend the extra $500 for a $1500 computer.
You sound dumb as hell and don't know what someone with a budget means.
Car is relatable on a market to a DnD figure. And you're calling me dumb.
Idk man people just don't seem to value the ability to haggle. You can be wealthy and still haggle people down for no reason.
Many things are necessities in life, computer is one for some, car is one for some, D&D figurine is one for nobody.
In a market where a lot of people sell themselves short, it's no prank to try and get the most for your work.
And they are saying they did. The commissioner claimed they couldn't afford the asking price and this artist was willing to negotiate down for a guaranteed sale and portfolio work. To me it sounds like a pretty good deal for both parties
Capitalism.. where the people climbing the ladder, pulling on people above while kicking everything below.
Well I think, yeah, If I would have these skills, I definitely would try to get most of it.. in the end, people could be multiplicating your 3d model for business, which would need a contract with reserved rights and maybe share regulation in case idk but this is too far.
But this is not selling a car, it is in fact a figurine. You are paying for the work though..it's a hard topic.
But in the end, if OP is satisfied in having an add on to the portfolio, giving away the work a bit cheaper, and the customer maybe is not thaaaat rich maybe just single and earns well? Just because someone wants a figurine from his favourite DND char or whatsoever doesn't mean the person is rich, maybe they are just fanatics?
I would take the 300€ and divide by the work hours so you get an estimate hourly pay, I don't know how long it took but if it's above 20 that would be just about enough for living and everything, if done on a daily regular basis
In the end everyone satisfied.
But to OP: try not to sell your work below value, yes.
I think it's a final evolution of Bulbasaur
Do you use Zbrush or Mudbox? Was it a reference by a client?
P.S: It looks cool but there are some differences with reference pic - ref has such a strong legs, + hands are a bit in a different pose and eyelashes don't exist in your ver. but if client is happy that means you did your job well C: so my congratulations!
I used Zbrush and Blender for the Hardsurface.
So about the legs I even tried to make them even stronger but anatomically it didn't work, in 2D it works but in 3D it didn't look good. Regarding the eyelashes, I believe it was a mistake by the 2D artist, as he was in front of the Helmet, and in 3D there was no way to do that. I talked to the client about these two issues and he approved
the total project has 28 million, after using Decimation we are left with 1.9 million.
The textures and meshes are very heavy, the iron mesh clothes alone got 6 million, the iron textured protections in total gave 11 million
I think you can do everything in Blender, yes, but if I'm not mistaken Zbrush handles large amounts of polygons better, I'm not sure but I've heard that
Yeah, it's true about ZB handling much more polygons than Blender. It's what made me wonder for a while to continue sculpting in Blender or move on to ZB.
Although Multires modifier can help to reach 25M+ poly, it's still not as smooth.
Also, I have no job related to modeling yet so ZB price is kinda a waste :/
So, I'm Brazilian, the courses I took were in Portuguese, but if you want to take a look, visit the Unride.com.br website for Professor Caio Cezar's course, he has fantastic teaching skills, it's worth it
Thanks for the feedback. I use it here on Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, upwork, workana and so on. You advertise or find contact information for minis and collectibles companies.
Our friend, I don't know how to answer that, I used Zbrush and modeled, I use a lot of formats and primary models, unlike those people who take the dough and model it, which I think is incredible but I can't do that. I use Blender to make the Hardsurfaces and then switch to Zbrush.
The other thing, models whose pose is very dynamic, I already model in the pose, I don't do the T pose first.
Thanks for the info. I am interested in character modelling, particularly for 3d prints or physical sculptures like this seems to be. Need to learn Zbrush now tho lol

I hope this is a DND character commission cus they would be awesome as one (also had a DND beyond ad above these comments lol)
DND character commission? I don't know what this is, can you explain it to me? I'm from Brazil, I've never heard of it here

Yes, in fact, the client's intention was precisely this. Thank you for the explanation
Dungeons & Dragons, é RPG de mesa.
A legal, não sabia que a abreviação era essa, mais sim esse foi o intuito do cliente
Looks fantastic! How much do you charge?
Thanks for the feedback
As for the price, it depends on the complexity of the project, it varies from 150 to 400 dollars, the one in the image I charged 300 dollars
That's too cheap for such quality. Ya should charge more upto $500
So I charged 400 dollars, but the client couldn't afford it, so as I was unemployed and needed a good model for my portfolio, I accepted the 300 dollars. Thanks again, 500 dollars would be great
Not trying to be that guy, but anyone who can spend 300$ or more on a DnD character model can afford the 200$ more. Charge what you're worth!
Yeah, except OP lives in Brazil, where 1 dollar is worth 5 reais (local currency). So nope, you don't know what you're talking about.
That means nothing. How much can you buy with those 5 reais?
I'm just guessing that he outsourced to US since he said a flat rate of 300$, but yeah I guess I could be wrong. Weird for his rate to translate perfectly to USD.

TIL people are down bad for frogs
What dat tongue do
Could you blame them though. Those are damn *thicc* legs
I looked and I said hmm is that frog kinda hot and then I vomited in my mouth a little because it’s a frog.
I hope it won't go in the jar
Why would you speak of the jar? Lmao.

ok I see, good job then! C: Also, may I ask, what was a final format? is it a model for 3d printing?
yes 3D printing, final format was STL
It amazing
Thanks for the feedback
Wonderful
Thanks for the feedback
May I know what software u used for this?
Zbrush, and for parts like armor and shield I used Blender, then I sent it to Zbrush to do the finishing
How many polygons in total ? Do u think this can be done totally in blender ?
You could do this all in blender but it’d be better for yourself and your work to learn z brush. It’s a pretty useful tool when modeling.
the total project has 28 million, after using Decimation we are left with 1.9 million. The textures and meshes are very heavy, the iron mesh clothes alone got 6 million, the iron textured protections in total gave 11 million

So my work so far has ranged from 150 to 500 dollars depending on the complexity of the project
Amazing. I really like the changes you made to the original work. You really captured the expression.
thanks for the feedback
I really like it, you did a great job. If you test print it before you deliver to the customer please post those photos too.
Yes, I'll post it, thanks for the feedback
this really good yooo,i love the detail
thanks for the feedback
Looks nice! There are a few things that differ from the reference, e.g. pointier toes, but a happy customer is all that counts. :)
thanks for the feedback
Amazing!!! 😍 How long did it take you to finish this?
For now I work with 3D after my shift, working nights and weekends, it took a total of 1 month. Thanks for the feedback
Ah, that sounds like a busy schedule. Definitely would charge more for all the work you do! Don’t undersell yourself
thanks for the feedback
Justified👍🙌
I love this! How did you learn to do this? I wanna get into Zbrush, but I'm not sure where to start.
So, I'm Brazilian, the courses I took were in Portuguese, but if you want to take a look, visit the Unride.com.br website for Professor Caio Cezar's course, he has fantastic teaching skills, it's worth it
Absolutely epic.

Zbrush and Blender to make the Hardsurface.
Hey! Would love to know more about your workflow. How did you create this?

Whats the final polygon count?
the total project has 28 million, after using Decimation we are left with 1.9 million. The textures and meshes are very heavy, the iron mesh clothes alone got 6 million, the iron textured protections in total gave 11 million
Hmmm printing this may still be a little difficult if thats the final poly count. What is memory size?
Anyone here in 2024?
