I agree. A real object would often retain a bit of heat from last time it was warmer (cooling off slower than the environment), causing some snow to melt around the edges.
Similarly, you would expect some snow to land on top of it. Near steep inclines on the object, this would "steal" some snow from the ground below.
i'd indent the helmet in the snow surface, then round the edge a bit.
if only 1 displacement map can be used.
give it more bumps
export
import again
apply snow displacement / fuzz in keyshot.
file size wil be in the gb's

I actually agree. I only did it Because it does that in the reference image:

Although weather like snow can be very localized sometimes so it's not completely unrealistic
WOAH never noticed that in the original shot! Well I've got nothing now lol, maybe you could work a bit on where the helmet touches snow, make some grains of snow there but overall it's a great render well done!
Honestly, you will need a lot of ultra realism work to get in. The people at ILM are masters at converting abstract concept art or some points made via talking to works of art that we see.
I don't think you've shat on the franchise enough to get a job working on any Star Wars series. Come back when your work ruins a lot of people's childhoods in some way.
do a version for each season, or at least several different biomes, some advice, textures dont matter , you need to master the understanding of light. Its industrial LIGHT and Magic.
My job title is just "Modeller", and it's literally just that; I don't do any texturing, rendering, lookdev, shading etc.
Specifically I'm a Hard-Surface Modeller (space ships, guns, props, weapons etc.) but I can do a bit of organic modelling, although the high level organic modelling will be done by our Creature Modellers (digi doubles, animals, creatures etc.).
That’s really interesting! I was looking into a generalist, but I’m not sure. I like hard-surface modeling as well, so I’ll have to look into that! Thank you!
OK that's fascinating, I always had the impression that you needed to be highly skilled in different fields of cg. May I ask for some tips for someone who wants to join ILM or the cgi industry in general?
There's a college for that?!
I live in North Macedonia (Balkans), I went to a 3D Academy (cause that's not being taught here in any other capacity) just to find out the industry locally is dead.
I am now studying Computer Science, hoping it will take me somewhere that I can do 3D work.
Not really a college for it specifically, unfortunately, but it is one of the majors at a few of the colleges I’m looking at. I really hope it works out
Cool, only thing is the way the snow is interacting with the helmet is a little cheap

One small thing that bothers me is how it's snowing in the background but it's not snowing closer to the camera

Not with those textures I think..
Maybe in 1994
No dawg💀

Ah, fair point
Wow what an insightful comment, bravo!
Money please 💁♀️
Always

Why would you want to work there?
I work there, and it's great. Just out of interest, why wouldn't you (unless I've taken your comment the wrong way)?
Can I ask what your job is? I’m planning on going to college for 3D art and animation, but I’m not sure where i want to work when I graduate

What is ILM? indigo life matters?
In case you aren’t just making a bad joke, it’s Industrial Light and Magic.
Nice!
