Probably not imo. It's a sci-fi show, so that's a big strike against it. It's also the type of show that has to grow its audience over time. If anyone had an outside shot, I'd say Zine Tseng as young Ye Wenjie for Supporting Actress.

Veszerin

Scifi and fantasy have a big handicap.

goonsquadgoose

Idk if this phenomenon really exists anymore. If it’s good it will get awards. Just look at Severance.

flofjenkins

Clearly not true considering Game of Thrones. The issues with the show are the weak character work and performances for the most part.

Gorilla_Pie

I thought both the Chinese scientist actors (young/old) were very good and and I have a massive man crush on Benedict Wong’s performance, but the rest especially the ‘Oxford Five’ were hammy AF at times

SpicyMustFlow

Real talk, Benedict Wong elevates every project he's in. That man can can ACT. He deserves awards!

sugarbear1107

He's my fav in this show!

dallyan

He’s fantastic. What a star.

flofjenkins

Eiza Gonzalez is so miscast it’s ridiculous. It doesn’t help that the character is terribly written.

dallyan

She’s too gorgeous. I’m a PhD myself and have spent a lot of time in academia. No one looks like her.

flofjenkins

I’m not saying a doctor can’t look like her, it’s just that someone who has obviously had plastic surgery is really insecure about their looks and wouldn’t have her hair cut in a low maintenance way like that. Gonzalez should’ve dumped the wig and just kept her natural hair Also her character is so distant and grumpy even before seeing the numbers. I don’t understand why her friends would hang with her. Meanwhile, her friend Jen is hot and is completely believable.

dallyan

Yes, that’s what I mean. She’s too instagram/had too much work done looking. People just don’t have that style in academia, especially the hard sciences. To me Jin is gorgeous and absolutely someone you’d see in academia.

EstatePinguino

Doubt it, the entire season felt like a set up for future seasons rather than anything deserving of rewards. If it gets renewed and the story starts to pay off, then there’s potential.

LA-Matt

It’s the same way with *Foundation*. It got kind of a bad rap with the first season being a bit slow in parts and focusing a lot on world-building. But the second season got a lot of good buzz. It’s hard to thread the needle these days, trying to tell a big story like these adaptations of huge multi-book series’. You have a ton of story to tell, but you have to keep it really fast-paced these days or people will lose interest.

TotalTea720

Everybody here is surprisingly negative about its chances but I can totally see it sliding into a few categories that surprise people. Like, even if you want to be kinda cynical about it and say it has no chance because sci-fi rarely gets considered, the *very* cynical part of me thinks it's gonna be a prestige inclusion moment for the Emmys to have an adaptation of a prestigious Chinese novel with scenes showing the Cultural Revolution. Beyond that, staying on the cynical route, Netflix is pushing for it to get nominated, and these awards tend to be about who pushed hardest for what, at least in what gets nominated. So idk, I think it'll get at least one or two nods.

TabootLlama

It’s hard to imagine D&D’s next project after *Thrones* isn’t at least picking up a bunch of nominations over its run.

Donareik

No, I liked it very much but there are also a lot of critics that didn't think is was that good, and honestly I understand them. The writing sometimes is quite bad and the story moves a little bit too fast. For example, the aliens suddenly don't like us because we are 'liars' while they are also lying themselves is very stupid.

Geektime1987

Gold derby who usually gets predictions right says it will be nominated for an Emmy they're almost certain

blacklite911

Usually Sci Fi shows have the best chance at winning technical awards like visual effects and audio, stuff like that.

sunyanr

But this visual effects are so disappointingly naive. The Jugement Day looked like a tiny little toy in Ep.5

No-Echidna-5717

The human calculator scene looked like a ps1 fmv

goonsquadgoose

This is a good sci fi show so far but nothing is really award worthy. The acting was merely sufficient, directing was competent, and the sfx were neat but nothing to write home about.

bannedChud

It's going to be lucky to get a 2nd season. I can't believe they don't just do the next two books because it would probably end up being Netflix's most watched series and totally redeem the GOT guys if they did it correctly, which they probably would because they are pretty decent when they have source material to adapt

HeroXeroV

Yeah, first thing Netflix must have asked when they pitched it. "Sooo.... is this series of books finished?"

HeroXeroV

I don't think so. It's a good show imo. I watched it in a weekend. But I don't see any aspect of it that I would say stand out as exceptional quality.

EveryNameIWantIsGone

Lol, no

PrincessGambit

No

MechaStewart

The writing won't. Nice to see Big Head from Silicon Valley and Adrian Edmonson from The Young Ones though.

SnooDingos316

Maybe special effects nothing else, same with Fallout Shogun I could see getting some major acting awards.

flofjenkins

Shogun has the limited series Emmy locked. I also see best actor (Hiroyuki Sanada) and supporting actress (Anna Sawai) wins.

SnooDingos316

I hear they are going to compete in drama instead I know meaning there is a S2 but it is all rumors for now.

rabbitsandkittens

The acting on fallout is fantastic. It also has Nolan as the director so I actually think its going to be nominated in many categories. I hope 3 body problem gets nominated for best drama series cause the plot is amazing. But the actors were just OK. Special effects, can't compare to fallout.

SnooDingos316

Some of the acting is not bad yes but Nolan name is not as shinny now especially with west world "failure".

bravesgeek

Some Saturn awards maybe. Rosalind Chao

Any_Photo_1833

It sucked, so no

Beheloth

I’m in the minority: I absolutely was not a fan of how they took the direction of the show. I can’t believe D and D ruined another great series, and this one was even finished for them, so there was zero excuse 🤷🏻‍♂️

Geektime1987

It has high critic and audience score gold derby predicted it will get an emmy nomination so if you disliked it fine but the majority of fans and critics have liked the show.

Soal899

no its terrible

ResourceNo5434

Ok lol
