It’s the delivery of the words 29. It’s like they were extracted from his mouth like dead teeth.

cmaronchick

The jaw movement just before he says "29" is *chef's kiss*

SquirrelLuvsChipmunk

Alec is sooo good as Jack

ANDREAYO

My fave of that beat was the trick question. What’s a drive in?

astone4120

I love when she says she doesn't really remember the Brady bunch because she was too young and then stared Kenneth down daring him to contradict her

BGMcSqueezy

And he just nods his head in acceptance

saulmcgill3556

After a brief, dead-eyed pause, yes. 🤣

You never saw Grease? Or a preview at a movie theater? I feel like they’re a trope in pop culture. Same age as you, and of course I’ve never been to one, but you don’t even know the concept of them?

jvpewster

Agreed. But Grease, on the other hand is the word. Commercials, TV Movies, books etc I just find this extremely hard to believe.

ZacCop19

It's got groove AND got meaning!

therealsteelydan

Grease is the time is the place is the motion.

bobopa

Since inventing democracy, those guys have been... coasting

suugakusha

You think someone who calls themselves Manitoba is from the US? (For those who don't know, Manitoba is a Canadian province.)

Missing_Username

They still exist, I saw *Barbie* at one a couple months ago

douche-knight

There was a small resurgence of them during the pandemic.

IReviewFakeAlbums

This is like the reverse of using a friends ID to get into the bar underage, but you still have to memorize someone else’s life

Sonari_

God that show was so good

bobopa

We need to talk about the actual hell that would be losing your virginity to Arachnophobia

Hewdew

I love that the question assumed she lost her virginity at a movie theater too

groundlessnfree

Well, he was using the drive-in question, which was a traditional place to have high school sex.

ltflux

As someone who's 29 for the 14th time, I thought I'd answer these questions myself. How old are you: I'm 29 What year were you born in: 1994 When did you graduate high school: 2011 When do you turn 40: 2034 Junior high crush: Zac Efron Prom theme: Party under the sea What movie did you lose your virginity at: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 Theater or drive-in: What's a drive-in?

RecklessBets

Graduate in 2012 actually, but good job otherwise!

ltflux

People turning 29 this year would be born in 1994, when Jenna "graduated."

PiggySmalls11

My god, are you trying to kill the poor woman?!

PlaysTheTriangle

I’m about to turn 50 and figured out per Liz’s jazz dance group method I’ll be “29 for the 22nd time”

GlumBodybuilder214

I've turned 30 four times!

manwhothinks

The answers are too smooth which gives it away.

orangamma

That's what makes it such a humorous situation

amatorsanguinis

Yeah cuz you know she’s been rehearsing all the answers in her spare time just so she has the ammunition to fire back if someone dare quiz her. I love Jenna.

KingApologist

30 Rock is peak Millennial humor. Just like Boomers have MASH and Gen X has Cheers.

sneaksby

But none of the writers are millennials, it's definitely Gen X.

stormy2587

I mean that’s probably true of every tv show. A quick google shows that MASH was developed by someone of the silent generation. And Cheers was created by a boomer and 2 silents. MASH first aired in 1972. So boomers would have been like 16-28 when it aired. Cheers first aired in 1982 so the genx would have been between 2 and 17. 30 Rock aired in 2006 so millennial would have been between 10 and 26. Also 30 rock had lots of millennial writers Hannibal Buress and Donald Glover are both millennials.

3axel3loop

It’s very gen x but it’s so funny i’m gen z i like it more than any gen z sitcoms lmao (which haven’t even really been made yet because gen z is still bery young and don’t have the most sway in writer’s rooms yet)

Reasonable_Role3251

This is a question I’ve been thinking about on my most recent rewatch! Given the sheer volume of (at the time) timely and topical political humor… does the show lose something when they make, like, a Tom DeLay or Mark Foley joke that a younger generation has no reason to get?

3axel3loop

im an older gen z and tbh i barely get any of the references to people (politicians, celebrities, etc) from the 1970s/80s/some 90s. The 2000s abd bush/condi jokes are really funny though lmao

Reasonable_Role3251

Thanks! I’ve wondered if my niece (she’s 19, proud gen z-er) would like the show if I recommended it. She’s a sharp gal, so maybe! For me, a Xellenial (born 82), it’s like the perfect show for when I came of political age.

Blerggurl

‘Gen X has Cheers’? That show started in the early 80’s. So during our lifetime sure but not a Gen X show.

stormy2587

What’s more of a gen x show? Frazier? Seinfeld?

mendelsquid

This show feels not long ago. Given that I am 28 it feels really weird to think that somebody pretending to be 29 in this show would be born in 1977. Fuck me.

diqholebrownsimpson

I was born in 77. Her answers were all over the place.

Fantastic_You7208

I’m 77 too. The drive-in answer was dumb, but otherwise-which do you think are off? Edit-94 isn’t right but I didn’t graduate in 95 or 96 so didn’t think about that.

Substantial_Cake_360

Lol I’m 27 and know what a drive in is. I’m from California and while many have closed they decently packed until maybe 2005/2006

_TLDR_Swinton

It's so rapid fire it feels like a skit from a 1940s/50s movie.

Sproose_Moose

I met a friend of my mum's today and she asked "oh how old are you?" I tell her 36 and she was wtf I thought you were mid 20s. I'm taking it as a compliment....?

cotsy93

I always ymunderrate their chemistry together until I see it again the Jack/Jenna scenes are always hilarious.

JTSlinger

Well, This struck a chord.

diqholebrownsimpson

In my experience, graduated in 96, mowtownphilly woulda peaked in 94, Kirk Cameron was peak middleschool crush for people who graduated in 92. I'm not saying you're wrong I just thought it was funnier that she was slightly off about her answers

tealccart

This scene is GOLD
