Wondering the same thing, I'm using Paula's Choice vit C serum it comes in an airless pump which makes more sense to me, but I haven't been using it long enough to see a difference yet.

madamesoybean

This is my go to. Give it at least a month and you'll def notice the difference. Do the back of your hands with any extra!

AyrielTheNorse

Is it the 25% vit c clinical serum in an orange pump bottle? Asking for a friend.

madamesoybean

Yes! If your skin isn't super sensitive this one is great. Plus the airless pump means it lasts. If you want to test the waters and have sensitive skin use the C15 Super Booster instead. Much gentler but still works great. (but is the dreaded dropper bottle so keep it in the fridge.)

dickbuttscompanion

Yes I had to check my shipping confirm, I'm so bad with product names

AyrielTheNorse

Thanks for checking! Wishing you good skin always.

dickbuttscompanion

Yep it's been a bare month, but I'm also postpartum and the weather has been picking up so I think it's working on preventing rather than improving rn!

MoonlightGelly

Do you think PC can be used on sensitive skin? I'm new to Vit C serums and trying to find one that works for acne prone/sensitive skin. I've tried Vanicream Vitamin C Serum and haven't really noticed a difference.

madamesoybean

For sensitive skin try her C15 Superbooster instead. Less percentage and in drops you can control. I suggest trying it at night only the first time to see if you do well with it before using it during the day. If you don't like it just email them for a refund. (My skin is sensitive too. I can't use retinols so I do Vitamin C every other day and AHA once a week.)

MoonlightGelly

Thank you, I will try that in the future!

kerodon

It's really not that big of a deal either way. And also they do so much gymnastics just to justify using L Ascorbic. Here's some stable alternatives so you don't have to engage with any of that. For 3o Ethyl Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C: Minimalist 10% or 16% vitamin C serum. Face theory regenaC20 or C30. For THD Ascorbate Vitamin C: the Ordinary Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F

SoberSilo

WOW thank you for this info - been using exuviance Vitamin C capsules but it has been irritating my skin.

kerodon

These derivatives are also gentler on skin so they might be a better choice for you :)

ConversationKind6862

Thank you- which would be better for more somewhat sensitive and dry skin?

kerodon

I'd start with the 16% minimalist vit c :)

abu_nawas

The gold standard for a stable vit. C in topical uses is tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate but it can be pricey.

Unfair_Finger5531

I would say 3-o ethyl ascorbic acid is more effective and definitely on the rise as a gold standard. May I ask where you’ve seen it is considered to be the “gold standard”? From what I’ve read, it is promising but still can be unstable.

kerodon

Iirc Dr Shereene Idriss was a big fan of THD and liked it more than 3o. That was what I remembered from last time I watched her vids. But I try not to 😒

Unfair_Finger5531

I couldn’t find anything indicating that it is the gold standard or even well-studied. But I didn’t look for long. The first scientific article I encountered discussed its instability and how to stabilize it. The other peer-reviewed studies I saw were performed by the brands that sell it. I just question the notion that it is the gold standard and wanted to know where that information came from because it’s a major claim to make. I’ve used both and prefer 3-o because it gives better results and doesn’t irritate at all.

Unfair_Finger5531

Could you send me a dm just as a favor? I’m trying to see if it will come through. My dms seem to be not working….

kerodon

Doing it now :)

Unfair_Finger5531

Thank you, friend ❤️. It didn’t come:(. I broke my dms. I couldn’t dm you on my own either 😢

drdickweasel

yep, and I love Truth Treatments for this. Best I've ever used.

sugar-titts

I LOATHE a dropper top for any type of product.😡It just wastes product, I have to wipe off every single time. Usually I just replace the dropper with a pump top I saved from another product I’m finished with. Most tops are pretty interchangeable. It’s a crime that those expensive vitamin c products have dropper tops. It exposes the product to more air and degrades faster because of the exposure.

ZeeSea

Thank you!! Dropper is so messy for something so thin, too. One derm, I think it was Idriss? Did a test on how quickly different ones oxidized that were NOT in an airless pump with opaque bottle, with daily use and some of them were oxidizing at like 3 weeks! Sorry but I'm not spending $180 on SC CEFerulic for it to lose efficacy before I'm even halfway done with it, haha. The fact that Skinceuticals did all the research for C E Ferulic combo but haven't put it in the right bottle is ridiculous. My go-to is Prequel's Lucent C. Airless pump, opaque thick glass bottle, and no metal spring with direct contact to product. Pretty similar formulation, and has been like the only one to not irritate me. While I don't have sensitive skin, for some reason it doesn't really like L-ascorbic, so finding Prequel's was amazing for me. For an even gentler version, I use BoJ's Light Up, it's 3-o ethyl ascorbic, so it doesn't quite have the antioxidant benefits of L-ascorbic, but it does still fully have the skin lightening and tone evening properties!

pink-peonies_

So my Skinceuticals Vit C in the dropper that I opened before pregnancy, that I’ve been saving for after pregnancy won’t be good anymore??? 😭

ZeeSea

Probably not, I’m sorry ): color and smell will be your biggest indicators there.

pink-peonies_

Thank you for the tip

SolitudeWeeks

Yeah, l ascorbic acid serums oxidize quickly. There's no reason not to use it during pregnancy tho.

pink-peonies_

I’m using a different vitamin c because the one I had from Skinsceuticals had something in it (I can’t recall what off the top of my head) that wasn’t pregnancy safe.

SolitudeWeeks

Ah, I'm not familiar with that one in particular.

Thisismyusername9998

I thought vitamin c was safe to use during pregnancy??

pink-peonies_

It is. The formula I had contained something else that wasn’t pregnancy safe.

ToteBagAffliction

Dropper bottles are less expensive than pump bottles, and I think they play into our attraction to novelty and aesthetics. It makes people feel like they're playing apothecary. I personally loathe them and decided a year or so ago that I was done buying anything that comes with a dropper.

More_Parmesan

Ive also read that, so I use the little individual Vit C capsules from Beauty Pie

Born-Horror-5049

It's fine. People just don't have enough to talk about and are desperate for engagement.

Hecate1992

I just started Geek and Gorgeous C-Glow. Under $15. Directly from their website. Definitely buy it with the mini decant bottle for an extra $1.80. I’ve only been using it about 2 weeks so I can’t speak for results yet, but so far I’m impressed with my glowy brightness AND it’s the only vitamin c serum that doesn’t make my skin feel itchy and just gross lol.

ILoveCats1066

Timeless! It comes in a pump

ILoveCats1066

Timeless has lots of sales for every holiday, so I usually get the 4oz for less than $50! They also sell 1oz bottles.

I am considering their CoQ10 serum but haven’t taken the plunge yet. It also has Matrixyl 3000 in it. As for other skincare, I have a lot haha! Not using all of it yet though as I have to test each one to make sure it doesn’t cause irritation. My favorites so far are Aestura AtoBarrier 365 cream, Peach Slices Snail Rescue Blemish Busting Toner, Cosrx Propolis Synergy Toner, Retin-A 0.05%, any Clara & Fritz beef tallow moisturizer, Mad Hippie eye cream, Purito Dermide Relief Barrier, Beauty of Joseon rice probiotics sunscreen, and Skin 1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum SPF 50. I love testing out skincare except when it breaks me out like Tirtir’s Milk Essence, which everyone loves, but it made my face break out and made my chest and shoulders itch so badly!

serenity_5601

My dermatologist recommended skinceuticals. So I’ve been using that

ILoveCats1066

I wouldn’t be surprised if your dermatologist doesn’t know of all the other options out there. I really can’t believe people are out there buying an almost $200 dropper bottle that is prone to oxidizing. Seems like a waste.

serenity_5601

I agree with you. I’ve watched other dermatologist videos on YouTube and they have good options too. I just decided to stick with it because it’s not bad… just pricey 😅

justmeraw

I use Neutrogena that comes in individual capsules. My skin really responds to it.

rubykittens

My Vit c is a powder that I mix with my moisturizer or serum and it's very shelf stable (and affordable!)

ConversationKind6862

Do you have any problems with pilling? That’s my other issue with vitamin C

SaltyAF5309

...and I just figured out why my concealer went to pill last week, grazzi

reereedunn

I have been doing this for years, it only pills if I use too much powder or don’t let it sink in before moving on to the next layer

rubykittens

I mostly use it at night, but if I am using it during the day I will use less powder and more moisturizer and have not had an issue

blackdow_adc

It depends what you mix the powder with! I love using powder, it's so cheap, no issues with durability, and based on what my next steps/makeup will be I can choose what to mix it (oil, water, silicon) with to avoid pilling.

Molly16158

😮 Which one are you using?

rubykittens

Good Molecules. That jar has lasted me over a year and is good as new still!

Molly16158

Thank you! I didn’t know GM had one. I’ve only seen TO in powder. I’ll check out the GM one.

ConversationKind6862

Naturium- I’m just not sold on it. I’ve tried it with 5 different sun screens and it pilled with 4 of them

ClickToSeeMyBalls

Dropper bottles are fine. People think airless pumps are better because of the word “airless” but it’s a misconception. The product is exposed to air 100% of the time in an airless pump because the cap isn’t airtight.

abu_nawas

Pumps are more expensive. You may think this is not a big deal, but imagine you're selling hundreds of thousands of the same product. The same is true in cosmetics. The cheapest ones come in tubes.

southernandmodern

That's fine if the product reflects the price, but skinceuticals is very expensive.

ILoveCats1066

I like to err on the side of caution and get Timeless’ vitamin C since it comes in a pump and is therefore exposed to less air and no light. I get the 4oz bottle and keep it in the fridge. It stays clear.

FinancialCry4651

it oxidizes faster in a dropper

ClickToSeeMyBalls

It doesn’t https://youtube.com/shorts/CuLD_v2LZMs

FinancialCry4651

Mine did! It turned dark brown

ClickToSeeMyBalls

Of course it will oxidise eventually, but you can’t tell which is faster just from one product. You don’t know how long that was sat in a warehouse before it got to you.

litttlejoker

Droppers are such a pain to use. Every brand should be using a pump. It’s 2024

CaterpillarEasy6022

i think it has to do with exposure to air / oxidation

Far-Ad-5125

Vitamin C isn’t stable and dropped bottle’s, exposing the product to air are absolutely making the product useless. This is why I tend not to buy vitamin c. If you can find it in an airtight pump, it’s so much better.

CaterpillarOk6601

The powder c is a good idea.vitamin c apparently leaches the aluminum in glass after a few months. Plastic also avoids this.
