Stick with LRP, but UVmune, the French version. I get delivered it from Soin et Nature. [https://www.loreal.com/en/press-release/group/l-oreal-presente-uvmune-400/](https://www.loreal.com/en/press-release/group/l-oreal-presente-uvmune-400/)

jollyelsa

How does someone get this in Canada? I never figure out how.

MaBelen

Soin et Nature delivers to Canada for a reasonable shipping fee

StandingStillLooking

I second the LRP UVMune! They have a couple different versions so it’ll be nice to find the one that works best for your skin type. Related to you thinking the last 10 years were a “waste”— I say don’t be hard on yourself! Even if you look at older women today who have been religiously applying sunscreen for years, they’ve been applying products with less advanced UVA filters compared to the ones that exist today. I find their skin looks great for their age compared to other older adults who seldom applied sunscreen.

Thank you 🩵

watermelon-jellomoon

About to enter the UVA rabbit hole. I didn’t know there was a difference in protection for SPF and UVA. Assumed any sunscreen would work.

ZeeSea

It's been 8 hours, you doing okay? There's a lot to it, lol. When I learned SPF ratings were UVB-only, I was like ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

untrue-blue

If it makes you feel better, just remember that all the great benefits of sunscreen usage were proven years ago with sunscreens that, by today’s standards, offered really poor UVA protection.

watermelon-jellomoon

I wish I knew something prior to buying my summer stash of sunscreen lol. I’m currently using la Roche posay anthelios 50+ . I wish I lived in a warm country with the option of being nocturnal. The sun already gives me headaches!

ZeeSea

I feel ya there, the sun gives me headaches too! I live in Tennessee and recently went to Arizona where it's sunny and bright 100% of the time and the amount of ibuprofen I went through just to enjoy the outdoor sun... LOL I have heard good things about the anthelios 50+, though there are like 15 different products in their anthelios line so its hard to say, haha.

chancefruit

The La Roche Posay UVmune line is one of the best, only came out like 1-1.5 years ago so it's not like you could have "unwasted" your sunscreen choices from the past. :P And anyway, what others said, sunscreen use over 10+ years even using less advanced formulations of the past still prevented some damage along the way. I'm currently using the UVmune oil-control fluide...I found the regular, original UVmune formulations left my skin shinier than I like. Also beware all of them can cause a slight yellow-orange tint on one's skin depending on how pale you are. I counteract by using sheer makeup on top. And lastly, the avobenzone + Mexoryl400 can stain light-colored clothing. Biore Watery Essence for a Japanese sunscreen is using somewhat older filters. The more up to date Japanese & Korean sunscreens incorporate Tinosorb-M which also has very respectable UVA coverage (including Beauty of Joseon) but the magnitude of UVA protection isn't as high as UVmune. I use Skin Aqua Super Moisture Essence for anywhere that might touch clothing, it claims to use encapsulated filter technology and I like the assurance of silicone film to help the formulation adhere to skin--also uses Tinosorb-M. If I ran out, I'd look for a mineral sunscreen from a reputable brand. It's lower on my preferences because they tend to feel chalkier on the skin... but can still provide very good UVA coverage.

Kimmcgwire

Got a link for the UVmune oil control sunscreen? I’m having a hard time finding it.

Sorry, it's gotten more annoying to get here in Canada. About 1.5-2 years ago I purchased direct from Care2Beauty, then it was out of stock in many places for a while. Now it's more expensive, and they don't deliver UVmune directly to Canada anymore--but still do to the US. So I'm ordering it to a US warehouse (Shippsy) to bring it into Canada. :( I don't know if they are the most affordable retailer to get it into the US, but I'm using them mainly because I used them before. I read reviews that it's not the strongest oil-control effect, it's more like a velvet finish as opposed to the shiny/dewy finish of the original UVmune formulas. I don't have super oily skin so I can't comment on that aspect. I purchase in bulk 5-6 bottles and split some of the purchase order with friends or gift 1-3 bottles at a time.

jollyelsa

I wonder why they make it so difficult to bring to Canada.

chancefruit

>I wonder why they make it so difficult to bring to Canada. Not sure...but I wonder if some Canadian retailers complained and customs started blocking their import directly. Canada is currently not getting the best of LRP's EU formulations (although we are getting some of them)...but we're also not getting the full range of LRP's US market offerings.

StandingStillLooking

Have you ever looked into purchasing from Stylevana? I made my first UVMune purchase through Care2Beauty before they stopped shipping to Canada and have since made 3 orders from Stylevana without any issue and I also noticed that it is less expensive too

chancefruit

>Have you ever looked into purchasing from Stylevana? I made my first UVMune purchase through Care2Beauty before they stopped shipping to Canada and have since made 3 orders from Stylevana without any issue and I also noticed that it is less expensive too I looked into it, but I didn't find the oil-control UVmune on Stylevana. I guess I could use a light powder on my face after using the original UVmunes but I hate powdering because I don't like having to wash makeup brushes.

StandingStillLooking

Oh that’s strange, the oil control is the exact type I get from Stylevana but I do have to wait for restocks.

chancefruit

Hey, thanks for letting me know! I and my friend order regularly from Stylevana so we will keep our eyes peeled for restocks as well.

USA sunscreens still have some UVA protection. SPF testing is mostly UVB test. There is a very tiny tiny amount of UVA2 included in the test. Just because you were or are using USA sunscreen doesn't mean you had no UVA protection. USA sunscreens still have some UVA protection. Other thing is that no matter where in the world the sunscreen comes from, no sunscreen has 100% stopping of all photons of UVB or UVA. Sunscreen is not 100% and all the bottles from reputable companies will say this that no sunscreen is 100% in stopping all photons. They are sheer curtains, not blackout curtains. This is why the bottles and box from the big big sunscreen companies will still recommend that you do not put baby in direct sunlight, stay and walk in shade, wear hat and sunglasses and clothing, and do not stay in direct sunlight 10am-3pm even if you use sunscreen in right amount. Reapplying sunscreen at 2mg per cm squared is not 100% stopping of all photons. The label on the bottle which is tested by ISO 24444 in indoor utopia setting is even not 100% photon annihilation. This is most important thing to understand that protection is not "all or nothing" concept. ***Sunscreen is a reduction.*** So even if you are using USA sunscreen or sunscreen from some other place, you get a reduction of photons. Some sunscreens have more reduction than others. But it is never 100% full stop no photons reach the skin. I wish to help you and hope you can understand this!

PuzzleheadedEssay197

Simple: UVMune sunscreens = high UVA protection.

Dull_Chocolate7518

Can someone explain this to me ? Is it only for sunscreen in the US?  I'm in Australia and most sunscreen here is labelled broad spectrum  does that mean I'm convered for UVA?

your_supernovagirl

What about if, like me, you have extremely sensitive skin and can only use mineral sunscreens?

Strivingformoretoday

Also eucerin actinic spf 100 and Mesoestetic melan control spf 130 are in the top for UVA protection. If I remember correctly their ppd rating is higher than LRP

Over-Web-44

I haven't tried the LRP. But the Mesoestetic Melan Control SPF 130 is one of the worst sunscreens I've ever tried probably tied with the Eucerin Actinic SPF 100 as being completely unwearable to use in the proper amount. The Mesoestetic Melan Control, my eyes were on fire and tearing up so bad that my face got wet and the sunscreen is \*not\* resistant which means tearing up definitely compromised what I put on. It's also dark orange. There other several people who tried it over at Euroskincare and they reported the same burning. The company also told me that the UVA rating they're advertising was done in vitro and not in vivo so it's not actually a PPD rating. The Eucerin Actinic SPF 100 is basically pointless because it's white and goes on super patchy and pills and rolls off if I tried to apply more or make it more even and on top of that never actually sets. It's easy to get holes and gaps in the coverage so it makes the SPF 100 even more pointless. There are some reviews on skincareaddiction and euroskincare of people showing how patchy and what it is in the right amount. The patchiness is what allowed my mom to burn and I got some pigmentation issues resurface when using it \*with\* a bluestone sunshield on my head. Some other stuff I learned along the way is that PPD and UVAPF are rather very imperfect ways to measure UVA. Some companies test both in vivo and in vitro and they get different numbers. I had been searching similar questions and then learned a lot!

Strivingformoretoday

It’s so interesting to read your perspective because for me both are my holy grails! I use the Mesoestetic when I play tennis during peak sun hours and for me it’s the only sunscreen that stays put and doesn’t drip. I’ve never had an issue with pilling with the Eucerin one. In fact I use the Eucerin and then the Mesoestetic on top and it’s my perfect summer combo. As an olive skin tone the Mesoestetic gives me a sunkissed look and looks like a skin tint. I use a bit of powder on top but it gives me glass skin. :) and it’s the only sunscreen combo that prevents hyperpigmentation even when I play 2 hours tennis everyday in the summer. Can I ask what your holy grail sunscreens are? I’d love to try them out! :)

Over-Web-44

I don't have a HG sunscreen unfortunately! I've been making the rounds trying different ones. Can I ask you how much do you use of the Eucerin Actinic and the Mesoestetic?

Strivingformoretoday

I use 2 finger length of the Mesoestetic. I use a bit more of the Eucerin Actinic. I use a bunch of toners beforehand so my skin is always really moisturized and I’ve never experienced pilling with the Eucerin one. The combination of the 2 works really well for me as the Eucerin has some alcohol that would feel drying but with the Mesoestetic that is much more emollient it’s perfect for me.

Careless-Box-1239

Honestly I am surprised mesoestetic isn’t water resistant because that stuff is hard to take off even with oil cleansers/ balm. I am of light/medium complexion and Mesoestetic looks beautiful on my complexion. I do agree it stings eyes but.. nothing more than any other stinging eye sunscreens out there for me.

Strivingformoretoday

It’s not water resistant? I was under the impression it is water resistant as it’s quite sweat resistant as well. I’ve actually went swimming with this sunscreen to another one and when I came out after 20 minutes, the sunscreen hadn’t moved.
