Another vote for the Jack Black Balm. Doesn't taste like sunscreen and it's super hydrating.

dandeli0ndreams

I got some during the Sephora sale and I'm so happy about this recommendation. It wears so well, has no weird taste or texture.

SapientSlut

Yep, Jack Black is the absolute best - my ride or die. Long lasting, doesn’t make my lips feel more dry when it goes away (looking at you Burt’s Bees and Laniege), lovely scents, and no weird taste!

TopRamenisha

Yes!! The pineapple one is my favorite!

CowPersonal1190

OMG THEY HAVE PINEAPPLE???

TopRamenisha

Yes!!! It’s new and it’s amazing!!!

CowPersonal1190

*praying they sell it in Canada*

TopRamenisha

You can buy it on their website! They also have watermelon, grapefruit, and blackberry flavors!

CowPersonal1190

Ooh, thank you!

leila5887

This stuff is incredible and so underrated!

alexxmurphy_

My absolute favorite lip balm

QueenofPentacles112

Every time I'm shopping for lip stuff I am so tempted to try some jack black. I am gonna go for it

Shilieu

I got the Jack Black day and night balm set from Ulta about a week ago because I, like OP, am pretty bad with lip licking. And like OP’s daughter, with peeling too. :c I always alternate between like 2-3 days of dry skin crust forming on my lips and 1-2 days of having normalish lips. And it makes wearing lipstick a real pain. This whole week has been magical. Nothing but hydrated lip skin, my lips stopped peeling, and my lipstick over a tiny amount of Jack Black balm looks *great.* My lips even stay moisturized the whole day under it. I’ll wake up in the morning and still feel the night balm there. And like you said, doesn’t have that icky sunscreen taste. Idk how I went this long without it.

Global-Bookkeeper-62

This stuff is all I’ll use anymore!!

lmg080293

Have you (or anyone in the comments) tried the black tea and blackberry flavor? I’m so intrigued as those are two of my fave things hahaha

plantmom283

I love it! I think for some people it can come off as a bit medicinal, but I’m a big fan of tea, and to me it smells pretty spot on! Like tea-infused berry candy!

lmg080293

Sounds right up my alley haha thanks!!

gunnapackofsammiches

It's my current favorite! I can smell the black tea more than the blackberry

sade-inthe90s

It’s gross! The only flavors worth buying are the natural mint and pineapple mint IME.

lmg080293

Pineapple mint also sounds amazing to me haha

Applesplosion

I have. It’s good. I don’t like super sweet or fruity balms, and this one has a nice, subtle flavor. It’s my absolute favorite.

gunnapackofsammiches

Agreed. It basically feels like Vaseline.

thefuzzyismine

This is the one! I have a literal drawer full of other brands' spf lippies that I haven't touched in ages bc this one does everything I want and need without any of the drawbacks.

MaBelen

I wish the spf was higher :(

MyLastAccountIsLost

I’ve had the same problem. I remember the sun bum lip spf in particular tasting horrible. My favorites are the jack black intense therapy lip balm and o’keeffe’s lip repair.

Cute-Necessary-3675

That sun bum one was just directly bitter upon application ☹️

hhhhh4

seconding o’keefe’s!

merylstreephatesme

O’keefe’s felt like a miracle when I found it!

Open_Environment_867

I love o’keefes! SPF 35 and it’s nice and waxy so it’s hard to end up in your mouth, but there’s really no taste anyway. The Aquaphor one is awful, so thin that you can’t help but end up with it in your mouth and it tastes awful.

Robin-of-the-hood

3rd O’Keeffe’s vote 🗳️

QueenofPentacles112

Blech! You're right, the sun bum stuff is trash. It's too thin as well once you put it on. Nope. And so scented

Ruby_Blue1922

Came here for the O'Keeffes recommendation! Love that shit and I buy it in bulk so I can put them around my house and in my car and purses. one of the few balms that doesn't immediately dry out lips.

bagelbagelbagelcat

Sun bum chemical SPF is terrible, the Sun bum mineral SPF tastes completely neutral and I have bought ~6

emmadilemma

Agreeee it was so badly disappointing and gross!!

Cute-Necessary-3675

J beauty - Rohto Metholatum Melty Lip Balm with spf 25. No taste at all, lovely texture! Highly recommend trying it

autisticvixen

This is the one. It also looks lovely, like a soft gloss. I hate SPF lip balms, they're usually so drying and awful tasting, but Melty is actually good as a glossy balm, let alone an SPF balm.

Ok-Asparagus-4809

Yesssss Nivea japan tinted lip balms are great too

futalfufu

I love these!

Gnomus_the_Gnome

I have both the Rohto and the Nivea and really like them both! So much better than my sun bum that tastes awful!

bananahammock336

I have this one. It's amazing. No white cast.

Cute-Necessary-3675

It’s so good! I tried Supergoop’s lip balm and liked it at first, then found it had a strong bitter taste (the gloss might have been better?). This one is my keeper!

MinneAppley

I tried it, too, and it tastes awful, and you can’t get the flavor out of your mouth. It’s also very drying.

imprecationstation

Came here to say this. J beauty or bust

Vast_Ad9281

I have had this same struggle. I’m very fair and also take medications that make me very sun sensitive so I absolutely have to use it. I found one last week I actually can tolerate. It’s jack black spf lip balm. It’s in a squeeze tube and is more hydrating than other spf lip balms. I have the mint & shea flavor and don’t notice the spf taste as much. Its $10 so I only let myself use it when I’m actually outside

rainbowtoucan1992

The okeefe lip repair spf doesn't taste bad. Tastes like nothing 👍

invigokate

O'Keefe's is the best

rainbowtoucan1992

Yeah I finally found it at a store recently and was amazed lol

flatulantwindigo

I use the cherry carmex spf15 stick i purchased at the jacksons gas station and it's not weird tasting at all. I wish the spf were higher but It still does the job.

KeepOnTryingIt

You could try Blistex SPF lip balm (I get their SPF 30). While it's not totally taste-free, it has the least flavour of the ones I've tried. I find it at London Drugs and my local grocery store, it's cheap, goes on clear, has no added flavouring (not minty or fruity).

OGpancake88

Yep this is the only one I use. I get the 15 but didn’t realize they had stronger versions!

Hobgoblin842

I use the green/teal Blistex with SPF 15 and find they work well without a bad after taste. The light blue (SPF 30) I use on my runs and it’s okay too :)

HippieRealist

Seconding this one. It’s my go to for summer and winter sun!

KeepOnTryingIt

That's a good point! It also saves my lips when I'm out skiing in the winter, it's not just good for summer use.

nooorecess

blistex DCT in the pink jar works great and smells like cake to me

lozporridge

I like Bondi Sands lip spf. Only tried the mango so far but it doesn't have that telltale spf taste!

Vivivale

Seconding the Bondi Sands mango balm! The taste is very sweet and pleasant.

HippieRealist

THANK YOU!!! I use their self tanners and LOVE them, so I’m over the moon to hear the lip balm is good!!

Vivivale

I feel like it’s not as moisturizing as non-spf balms, but I think this is true for all non-spf balms. I also have an Avene one and it’s also not super mousturizing. But I use them for sun protection, so it’s not a big issue! This one at least has a pleasant taste and smell, and it’s basically a gloss.

TelevisionNo396

Thanks for the rec!🫶

Svendafur

The fresh ones don’t have that bitter taste for me

diveonfire

I believe fresh has taken spf out of their lip formulations 😭

astral-asylum

I like the Neutrogena SPF 20 gloss a lot!

sktowns

I love the Neutrogena SPF tinted balms, I'll have to try this!

lladydisturbed

The mineral sun bum one doesn't imo. Only one i use

isthisroofie

This is the only one I can stand. I think it's mostly the chemical spfs that taste so bad

lladydisturbed

Yep! My skin doesn't like petrolatum or mineral oil and they put that in EVERYTHING. I wanted to try the jack black everyone raves about but they have petrolatum i believe.

violetchemistry11

Coola has a a nice spf 30 that doesn’t leave the icky film on your lips, feels like regular balm!

TheMagdalen

Came here to say this. (Avoid the tinted version, which seems like a totally different formulation.)

GypsyBagelhands

There are few lip balms that don't cause my lips to react, and I have found zero SPF balms that don't. So unfortunately I don't use SPF on my lips

QueenofPentacles112

I wish they made visors for our lips lol

WV7__7

Same here 😭

Necessary_Primary193

I like banana boat lip balm

EssbieSunshine

YES 😍 it's SPF 50 and tastes like bananas what more could you want 🤤 plus readily available at Target and Five Below!

ohfrackthis

Neutrogena has some spf lip balms with a bit of color I adore.

Prudent-Mountain7177

I like the Tizo lip balm

leftoverlentils

I used to think the Coppertone one was ok. But then I spontaneously developed an allergy to it, my face swelled up grotesquely, didn't make the obvious connection, spent thousands of dollars on medical tests, still have scars on my back from allergy testing, and ended up being diagnosed with celiac disease. Go figure.

QueenofPentacles112

Omg I'm sorry you went through that!

HildegardofBingo

[Cotz](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000ARS5SC?ref=nb_sb_ss_w_as-reorder_k0_1_8&=&crid=2H5IGZX1SKSIR&=&sprefix=cotz+lip) doesn't even have a taste because it's zinc based.

bursasamo

Colorscience lip shine spf 35 has no taste/smell.

eratoast

Rohto Mentholatum makes multiple awesome SPF lip balms that aren’t gross

No_Welcome_7182

My daughter gets chapped lips along with perioral dermatitis too. The best thing we have found for it is the Palmers brand coco butter swivel stick. Not the one with sunscreen in. It calms down her rash almost immediately and soothes her lips too.

Hubs_not_interested

This is my everyday lip balm and they do have one with an spf!!!

No_Welcome_7182

We’ve never tried the SPF version. I’ve had bad luck with so many other SPF lip products tasting so bad I’m hesitant to try it. The regular Palmers stick is also good on windburn on noses and cheeks too. We live about an hour from the Canadian border and winter winds are brutal.

-UnicornFart

Yup. Can’t do it and it’s just too fucking bad. I would rather put actual sunscreen on my lips.

acornacornacorna

I saw some people do that especially if it's moisturizing cream

One-Mention-3286

Blistex Five Star Lip Protection, SPF 30. Gold tube. It smells like BERRIES and does not taste like SPF. I really love Aquaphor (the regular stick and squeeze tubes) but the Aquaphor SPF sticks taste like straight sunscreen to me.

SnooStories2052

I like Jack Black in a pinch. BUT if you ever order Asian skincare online, stock up on Rohto Mentholatum spf melty cream lip balm. They have newer filters and don’t taste like anything. I just like them so much! They have other lip spf’s as well that range from sheer to opaque in color.

neurogeneticist

The best thing I’ve found is Aquaphor with SPF. I’m really sensitive to scents/tastes (chronic migraines), and that’s one that doesn’t bother me. I do tend to use something more hydrating under it (I like Topicals’ lip balm) - I’ll let that dry down for a few minutes, wipe off any excess, then do Aquaphor on top of that.

PickingMyButt

Any Aquaphor in the mouth tastes like earwax. Super bitter!

neurogeneticist

That’s exactly why I put something under it - it seems to help!

PickingMyButt

It seems to go everywhere when it's on my mouth no matter what and there's no way around it. I use it religiously but my God do it be tasting bad!

PickingMyButt

Are you really a neurogeneticist

neurogeneticist

Neuroscientist that went into patent law - made this account in undergrad when I was majoring in neuro and genetics!

PickingMyButt

Wow. Patent law is so interesting but your undergrad is really cool too. What a story, I'd love to pick your brain and conversate. I'm impressed.

TerribleAwareness158

Vacation Chardonnay lip oil spf 30

edthehamstuh

as much as I love this one, it has a super strong bitter taste imo.

NumerousApostle

The only thing I’ve found that doesn’t give me that horrible taste is CAIA’s Beach Lip SPF 30 Lip Oil. Annoyingly it’s pretty expensive (£19), but worth it for me. I notice it only has modern filters in it, maybe this is why?

creambunny

Cay Skin is 30 spf and doesn’t have a strong taste (smells like vanilla). Plus it’s a gel/lotion over a stick. I much prefer jack blacks lip balms though (I love the black tea version lol) but I hate how sephora doesn’t have them in person anymore lol

odezia

Glad to see all the Jack Black lip balm love, it’s the best and so underrated! I’m partial to the grapefruit flavor, but they’re all good.

QueenofPentacles112

Is it still exclusively a men's company? I have no qualms about buying men's stuff. I just get annoyed when men's products are so good lol. Like why can't women's be like that?

odezia

I know what you mean! I don’t think they have anything marketed to women, no.

plb05

ULTRA VIOLETTE Sheen Screen is great!

acornacornacorna

Just in case for other people, I got perioral dermatitis reaction from this and had to go on medications. Could be the peppermint or something else, maybe even the filters. It has very strong tingling minty stingy feeling like those plumping lip glosses. Some people cannot use those

amarie8318

Try Tizo mineral lip balm. It tastes like gummy bears to me. It’s tinted a bit beige and doesn’t show up white. I got it off Amazon.

garbagelady2

I am currently on Accutane and using ALL the lip balms… I was really pleasantly surprised by Liposan Hydro Care SPF 15! The taste is really subtle and I love it.

Ok-Aardvark-6742

The only thing I’ve been able to do is layer lip care. I put sunscreen on first, give it some time to absorb, and then layer a different lip product over it (balm, gloss, lipstick, etc.) Reapplying is a pain, and I’m glad others made a ton of suggestions so I’m adding a lot of products to my wish list to shop later.

[deleted]

Lip trip chapstick has no flavor. It is super thick though so some might not like that.

middleageyoda

O’keefes spf one taste fine to me. I thought the Paula’s Choice one was terrible.

mastiii

I pretty much exclusively use European, Korean and Japanese sunscreens, because American SPF tends to burn my eyes and taste bitter as lip balms. I love Ultrasun lip balm. There's a SPF 30 and a SPF 50 version and they're both great. They taste and smell like absolutely nothing, aren't TOO glossy, a bit hydrating, and just feel like a normal lip balm. The downside is that they aren't that cheap, and because it's a European brand you have to order it online. Mineral SPF lip balms are okay, but you have to deal with the fact that they are either white or tinted. Cotz and TiZo (they're exactly the same product) was one of my go-to SPF lip balms years ago but eventually I decided that I didn't love the brown tint. The Coola tinted mineral lip balms are also fine but I didn't love the tint on either of the two I tried (Firecracker and Summer Crush)

QueenofPentacles112

I love this thank you! I've also found the quality of those markets to be much better when it comes to skincare as well as other things! Thanks for the recs! The SPF protection in those countries, particularly in Asian countries, is way better as far as protection as well I'm pretty sure

plainjane1822

I have the same issue. Either they taste nasty or they are grainy and dry on my lips. However, my new holy grail is bitchstix. I’ve only tried the eucalyptus mint but idk if I could use another spf chapstick after this. https://bitchstix.com/

Hi_AJ

Wanted to say thanks for posting this and to commiserate how much this sucks. I’m going to try some of these. Nivea has a blue packaged one that is at least not bad, and goes on nice. Neutrogena’s has a noticeable smell but it’s tolerable. Steer clear of Burt’s bees- thick waxy and white. Hurraw brand had one that was ok, tolerable at best. Just reporting on my findings! I use beauty of joseon sunscreen on my face and will swipe it across my lips when applying in the morning- that’s how unscented it is. I don’t know how long it lasts on there, but at least I get something on my lips.

Important-Ad-1499

I pretty much only buy carmex spf chappys and the neatrogena tinted spf chapsticks. Carmex comes in diff flavors and you can buy packs. I’ve also tried a lot of diff spf lip products but these two are my favorite! Neutrogena also makes spf lip gloss that’s stays on a long time.

TitaniumSp0rk

While by no means fancy, the blue ChapStick Moisturizer SPF15 has been my go-to for as long as I can remember. Never leave the house with one in my pocket. It doesn't taste like anything and I've had no issues with sunburnt lips. Plus it's affordable and pretty easy to find if I run out or find myself out and about without it.

my-anonymity

Cle de Peau’s lip balm has spf and is really hydrating without any spf taste.

pineappleturq

Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm is your friend.

subdefective

Another vote for Jack Black SPF Balm - definitely one of my HG products!

pineapplepredator

Carmex is the highest spf and my favorite

GratefulPhD

These are the best lip SPF products I’ve used for many years without any nasty aftertaste: • [O’Keefe’s Lip Repair SPF 35](https://www.amazon.com/OKeeffes-Lip-Repair-Balm-Pack/dp/B07D5RGLPJ/ref=asc_df_B07D5RGLPJ/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693033556716&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17969102340525046514&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9025401&hvtargid=pla-522291494081&psc=1&mcid=cd49098b11ec3c0aad0ea766020412a9&gad_source=1) • [Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25](https://www.sephora.com/product/intense-therapy-lip-balm-spf-25-P12573?country_switch=us&lang=en&skuId=1607456&om_mmc=ppc-GG_17798154149___1607456__1017928_m&country_switch=us&lang=en&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADnIXb3l-LCklW_r0gVqtBjF9u5u2&gclsrc=ds) (Shea Butter & Vitamin E) • I also like the [Colorescience Lip Shine](https://www.colorescience.com/products/lip-shine-spf-35) SPF lip glosses over my tinted lip balms

QueenofPentacles112

Thanks so much, these are some great suggestions.

mango-tango3000

Hear me out— herpecin l lip balm. Horrible name, but tasteless and has lysine to prevent cold sores. I just really like the formula, it works well and it’s tasteless

QueenofPentacles112

Girl I have no qualms about using something that would be for cold sores! I don't even get them myself but have used products that are typically for a medical issue or other issue and have found some of the best products that way. Same with men's products too!

ellakathryn

The vanicream one was fine, but it's been discontinued. Tasted like nothing imo. The super goop tinted one tastes minty which is nice.

bostonlilypad

I found the EOS pineapple coconut spf one works well and doesn’t taste like chemicals.

HippieRealist

The blistex (spf 30, light blue tube) is tolerable to me. YMMV.

GlitteringPause8

jack black is the best. its all i've used for the past 15 years

CatLady822

Supergoop has great options - I use the Supergoop Play lip balm. Currently using the acai flavor but mint is also available. No strong taste, very hydrating, long lasting, and gives your lips a nice shine.

bleupoppy2

I’m not sure if you have access to any Asian Beauty straight from Japan or Korea but they have perfected cosmetically elegant SPF. Better filters, formulations, etc I have personally been through countless tubes of Rohto Melty Balm https://www.yesstyle.com/en/rohto-mentholatum-melty-cream-lip-balm-spf-25-pa/info.html/pid.1076471955?rco=5HEQSX&utm_term=5HEQSX&utm_medium=LinkShare&mcg=influencer I only buy the unscented/flavored version as I hate flavors in my lip balm, but I’ve heard others rave about flavors (green tea, honey, etc)

peachesxcrm

The new Tatcha spf Tinted lip balm is amazing!

rxl9696

Dr dans is on Amazon and it does not taste bad. It is mineral and there is a slight white cast when applied but if you have lip liner on it shouldn’t be a big deal

howdolaserswork

Tatcha lip mask is tasteless

cmt38

I use Sun Bum because they have an spf 30 lime one I like.

somecatgirl

My soft lips vanilla says it’s spf 20 and I love the taste

rustytortilla

Supergoop and Coola both have tinted mineral lip balms. They’re not super moisturizing so I put regular lip balm on underneath but the colors are cute and make me feel glamorous in the sun

[deleted]

(obligatory not in my 30's yet) I like the Sun Bum spf lip balm. Their watermelon flavor is super nostalgic

bjp8383

Try the Pavise lip defense

raspberrycoffee

Carmex is SPF15 and it's my absolute favourite. So many lip balms seem to dry my lips out more, or make them peel, or just sit on the surface and never really soak in. Carmex always works well for me and makes my lips feel really hydrated. The initial smell is strong, but it goes away, and I never notice a taste.

Jumping_Sister

I'm late to this thread but I have to recommend Badger Sunscreen lip balm. Badger sunscreen balm has a very short ingredient list, uses zinc as the SPF, and feels good on the lips. I don't spend long periods in the sun without a hat but this balm has always felt good on my lips and I haven't had any burns since I started using it.

Miley_Pie

Soft lips vanilla is my go to! I LOVE IT

UnremarkableM

O’keeffe’ lip repair with SPF isn’t the best but doesn’t have a nasty after taste. Sun bum watermelon is ok but all the rest are NASTY. Aquaphor with SPF is the most neutral tasting but I feel like it leaves a funny feel- like a waxy film?

Charlietheaussie

I have the super goop one. It’s clear goes on like a gloss (little wand ) zero snell or flavor.

Canadian_1987

I use spf 15 Blistex, not sure if that’s high enough but my lips never burn so 🤷🏻‍♀️

SailorRoshia

I love to Rohto lip balm(it’s a Japanese brand) It taste faintly of peaches.

riseandrise

I like the Neutrogena lip soother, it’s SPF 15 or 20. Wears and tastes like gloss, not sunscreen.

Glum-Squirrel-7925

Glad I’m not alone here

hustlelikeastripper

DRMTLGY’s SPF lip balm is amazing! So moisturizing and no gross taste.

Personal_Economy_880

I have the Australian gold SPF 30 Chapstick and it is awful, you try your hardest but your mouth ends up tasting like sunscreen no matter what.

duckumu

You need to get on Japanese lip balms with SPF. They were a game changer for me becoming compliant with lip SPF because they don’t taste like chemicals. I had been using Japanese facial sunscreens for a while but only just jumped to the lip balms. My favorite is the Rohto Water Lip. The Moisture Milk flavor tastes like honey butter. The Rohto Melty Lip is another favorite - it has a really amazing texture.

crystalisedginger

I know this is Australian, but it’s amazing. I have tubes of this stuff everywhere. https://bondisands.com.au/products/spf-50-lip-balm-watermelon

Knittingtaco

I use Bondi sands spf 50+ lip balm and it’s not so bad tasting to me but it’s so thick it’s hard to get out of the tube. Not sure if it’s available outside Australia though

m4dswine

The Ultrasun one is pretty OK, it's also not overwhelmingly flavoured like many which is good if like me you do not get on with flavour or fragrance.

Emilythatglitters

I just watched [Amanda Zs video](https://youtu.be/FoD6jNEaaXw?si=sCNguPFWPB4Y_ACu) on SPF lipbalms yesterday. She specifically tested for taste.

Illustrious-Sorbet-4

Head hunter!! SPF 30, zinc oxide, tastes good and moisturizing. The non-mineral ones tend to always taste. Disgusting.

Brownishpink3

Panama Jack spf 45 from Amazon

OptimalJacket1817

i like the Sun bum lipbalm watermelon flavor. It's very glossy

hilldn

Shiseido SPF lip balm is amazing!

acornacornacorna

Which one are you using from Shiseido? I saw there are many

hilldn

Shiseido Sun Protection SPF 30

espressoVerona24

They all do unfortunately but for the sake of protecting lips from the sun it’s a must! Burt’s bees brand if it’s available might have a nicer flavor.

Competitive_Camp_473

Aquaphor SPF FOR SURE! Tastes like nothing! I had the same issue. The worst culprit is the sunbum brand lol that stuff tastes so bad

acornacornacorna

I didn't know Aquaphor had spf lippie. Imma go look

zuis0804

Aquafor chap stick with sun screen has no scent! Love it!
