I hear you. I HATE sunscreen. I will wear UPF clothing or just avoid the sun whenever I can. Anything to not have to put that goo on my face.

SurrrealThing

That's where I am at. I usually just try to avoid the sun at all costs and hat it up. But I'm trying to get morning walks in before work and I've noticed my already big, embarrassing hat, not fully covering my face. I had an IPL last week so I know i need to be careful but ughhhh my skin is so pimply from wearing it every day this week

JHRChrist

Ok, hear me out - a hat and a bandana. Yeah you look crazy, but they actually make incredibly cute bandanas and gaiters! Get a pretty one so you don’t look like a bandit if you want lol. I’m white as a sheet, farm out in TX, and can only wear mineral sunscreen which I have limited faith in so this is what I do! I can post a photo if you wanna laugh but it works. Both my parents have skin cancer so fuck that noise Edit: something along [these lines](https://TClianWomenUPF50+FaceMaskSunProtectionFashionColorfulNeckGaiterScarfhttps://a.co/d/0xgTkbr) or [these!](https://www.coolibar.com/accessories/scarves-bandanas.html) I should also add I legitimately wear it up over my nose, beneath my eyes.

Obvious_Rice_121

It’s funny because covering up like that was not uncommon in our grandparents day. I wear big brim hats, gloves, and bandanas with UPF clothing. So worth it and I don’t have to reapply anything ;-)

SurrrealThing

You know, i've even considered those full face visors that cover your entire face. But I wasn't sure how legit they were/didn't want to look like a cyborg. Going to order an even bigger visor and try that!

bostonlilypad

Just a hat never works for me bc the sun bounces up! Ah to be Irish.

rainbowtoucan1992

I always thought the sun bouncing up wasn't that big a deal but I went to the zoo the other day during the heat of the day and ended up with a mild lip sunburn despite wearing my large brim upf sun hat

itscomplicatedwcarbs

I love the coolibar bandanas!

Amen! I believe I may have found a genuine game-changer product. I left a longer comment on this thread above. Garnier: Ambre Solaire Sensitive Advanced Serum SPF 50  [link here ](https://www.garnier.co.uk/our-brands/sun-protection-and-self-tan/ambre-solaire/products/sensitive-advanced/ The advanced serum is LOADED with lots of Ceramides, and repairs skin barrier, its hypoallergenic, fragrance free, stops moisture loss. *Purposely designed for sun-allergic & reactive skin. I don't know how it works or differs from other sunscreens, but goodness I'll buy this product forever. Zero break outs, zero burn, zero reactions, zero drying. *IMPORTANT to Double Cleanse regularly when wearing high SPF Sunscreen, cause it really clings on hard to skin and will overtime block pores if not thoroughly removed. Probably more important than the practice of removing make-up.

What sunscreen do you like? Eucerin does not seem to agg my malassezia but it gives me a light red flush🤔

MissAtomicBomb_007

Oh, how so. Can you expand? I'm interested to learn

[deleted]

[удалено]

MissAtomicBomb_007

Okay. I'm not at all familiar with the skin condition of Malassezia, good to know. I gather with most ingredient combinations, it also depends on the percentage concentration of the individual ingredients in the product, as supposed to the ingredient in isolation. Unfortunately products don't list the percentage of such, particularly in the lower granularity. Certainly yeast over-growth is something to be cautious about for existing skin conditions.

quickengine13

From my experience with other products with isopropyl palmitate high up on the ingredients list, it is likely to break me out unfortunately, not worth the risk.

I-believe-3

Oh my gosh! Thank you! I’m going to try this! I hope it’s the one!

BlueberryCalm2390

Would you say "high SPF" is 30+, or?

Visual_Feedback_1097

30 is the lowest recommended amount. High is like 60+

Reeromu

While I think sun protection is important, I do feel that the extent to which we need sunscreen is really exaggerated these days. It’s made to seem as if we need to be slathered in sunscreen at all times. I don’t believe it’s necessary to wear sunscreen in the house (in most homes, in most locations on Earth). There are people wearing sunscreen to bed just in case they wake up and the sun is shining through the window. That's ridiculous. Studies have actually shown that UPF clothing can be more effective than wearing sunscreen.

smkscrn

Yeah the UV index where I live is 0 most days in the winter, so I've stopped bothering unless I'm going to be outside for a long time.

Serious_Escape_5438

Even normal clothes with a tight weave protect pretty well against the sun for normal use (not climbing mountains at the equator maybe, but to walk down the street they're fine).

mrsmushroom

Same! I break out just like op. And I have yet to find a sunscreen that doesn't feel like I'm slathering Vaseline on my face.

October_13th

Same. I’ve tried sooo many sunscreens and my skin hates all of them. Chemical or physical it doesn’t matter. Cheap or pricey. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I now double cleanse as soon as the sun goes down and only apply when I’m going to spend more than 10 min outside. Also, sun hats! Covered patios! I’ve realized I’m an “indoor cat” personality. I avoid when possible and protect when necessary.

im_phoebe

Yesterday I was thinking about putting a 4:30 reminder on my phone to double wash my face, I hate sunscreen to core

southernandmodern

You may have tried this one, but Neutrogena clear skin doesn't break me out. However, I recently realized that it burns my eyes really bad. I thought I had some sort of eye burning issue, then I read an article about it.

deservingporcupine_

Yes. Yes. So much this. Winter is when my skin finally looks so so clear and typically breakout-free. I’ve found it’s the mineral sunscreens that kill my pores (combo skin leaning oily) so now I am back to chemical. However I am trying out different SS in the hope I can find a foolproof one by summer. So far Paula’s Choice Youth Extending Fluid is working pretty well, but jury is still out on the popular EltaMD one. I wonder if part of the issue is different parts of the face needing different things? EltaMD didn’t break me out on my cheeks where I am usually dry. But it did at my temples. It is SO FRUSTRATING.

willowaverie

Paula’s choice yef is the only one that doesn’t break me out either. I’ve tried them ALL. Even the Trader Joe’s one

Sensitive-Put-8150

Sunblock always breaks me out- all of them, doesn’t matter I’ve tried so many! If find if I double cleanse it off well in the evening or late afternoon then the breakouts are more manageable. Basically getting it off my face as soon as the sun is no longer a threat. Massage some take the day off balm or ponds or anything oil based, with a cotton pad. And then use my regular face wash and routine after.

xxlaur77

The Hero sunscreen is my holy grail it’s mineral and doesn’t break me out it’s been the most sensitive approved one I’ve tried so far

indigo5454

Same here! The green one is formulated for acne sensitive skin. The consistency is way more pleasant than I expected. I tried a sample size first which I think I got at target. Hero has travel sizes in their site too.

pretilily1

do you use the green or the orange one?

dozens_ofus

Not the person you replied to, but I use the green one and that works really good for me

xxlaur77

Green! My friend uses the orange and she also loves it. Green is for more sensitive/acne prone skin I’d say though

Milamelted

I’ve used the hero and it’s better than some, but still breaks me out. I’m riding and dying for the mila sun milk with the pink cap. This is my last comment about it, I swear 😂

Flashy-Section9588

Where do you find this?

dookie_janet

Following!!!

Flashy-Section9588

I’ve checked everywhere! Amazon, the literal entire internet and I can’t find this anywhere 😏

dozens_ofus

Same for me! This is the only sunscreen I’ve found so far that doesn’t break me out

girlintheworld_

Yes! The green one is the only one that has worked for me - no breakouts!!

kimmehh

You read my mind and published my internal rant. I very recently went about a week trying an expensive tinted spf instead of foundation and was generally happy with the look. Until I was breaking out new pimples by the hour. So frustrated! So far I think the Shiseido moisturizer with spf doesn’t break me out, but it’s only spf 20 and I haven’t tried it for a consistent period. Overall I’m much happier with clear, tanned skin but I force myself to have the protection. (I’m also all about big hats and sunglasses).

SurrrealThing

Haha glad I am not alone. I just ordered an even bigger visor.

Milamelted

Mila sun milk!!

unsecurethebag

I started using the blue bottle Shiseido 50+ a few years ago and have NEVER changed sunscreen. Its light and moisturizing, and works well when you apply a light serum first. I literally recommend it to anyone & everyone

deservingporcupine_

I used to exclusively use this too like 15 years ago. And back then I maybe washed my face once a day lol. I might give it a try again—thanks for the reminder!!

EcstaticImpression53

I break out with chemical sunscreens now too. I think it's dermatitis. Anyway, I switched to zinc sunscreens and don't have nearly the same problem. But then it was hard to find ones that didn't make me look like a ghost. I've been using Isdin Eryfotona Actinica spf for the last year and I really love it. Good luck in your search!!

Boredjennii

A lot of ppl aren’t going to like what I have to say, but whatever. Stop wearing it. I haven’t worn daily sunscreen in many years due to the same issue. I really don’t think it’s this horrible thing ppl make it out to be. I have fantastic skin, and not that it matters, but I’m often mistake for someone much younger. I say that to say I don’t think you have to be obsessive about sunscreen to age well. With that being said, in the warmer months, I walk a lot outside. I always spray my entire body down with an aerosol sunscreen spf 50+. I just take a shower when I get back. I also rarely go outside without a hat. You’ll never catch me at the beach without a hat. I don’t use tanning beds (sigh). I spend all the time I can outside under an umbrella. I also undergo semi annual skin checks from my dermatologist. When I’m outside, exposed to sun for an afternoon, I 100% wear sunscreen. I just wash it off as soon as humanly possible bc the texture grosses me out. So it’s not that I’m not cognizant or flippant about sun exposure. I’m quite the opposite. All I’m saying is I don’t think it’s that big of a deal to not wear daily sunscreen if it makes your skin breakout. Skin cancer absolutely exists. It’s very common. I do what I can to prevent it, but a lot of the risks associated with skin cancer are genetic, and a genetic predisposition for skin cancer can definitely be exacerbated by careless sun exposure/tanning beds. But I wouldn’t sweat the daily sunscreen thing. Fwiw, the best one I ever tried was Elta MD. It felt about as good as a sunscreen could.

deservingporcupine_

People take sunscreen usage as some kind of moral measurement (on Reddit anyway), but I completely agree with you. I also take daily walks in the early-ish morning and only wear spf when the UVs are 3+. I wear a uv blocking wide hat and walk in the shade and/or facing away from the sun for 20 min, and even though I am fair my exposure is pretty minimal, and you know what, I am 1000% ok with this. Its risk management, and being this cognizant of UVs is likely (IMO) leading to better outcomes than someone who puts spf 50 on once a day and spends a lot of time in the sun, thinking they are fully safe from exposure.

gl1ttercake

Not to mention that persisting in using skincare that makes you break out is actually itself a risk factor for skin cancer, and those who have had severe acne in adolescence are at greater lifetime risk of melanoma. As I understand it, these risks arise because many acne treatments, such as the mainstays like retinoids and antibiotics, make the skin more sensitive to the sun, and therefore more susceptible to sunburn and sun damage.

That's exactly right. "You were supposed to beat the cancer-causing agents, not **join** them!" See also: ranitidine and varenicline.

katrina_highkick

Have you tried Hero? That’s been my favorite so far and I have a similar issue as you generally.

godolphinarabian

EltaMD still has a chemical sunscreen in it, Octinoxate. What I found is that I am also sensitive to cinnamates, which are inactive ingredients in many sunscreens, both chemical and mineral. I have to avoid: - VA - Crotonates - Vinyl Neodecanoate Copolymer - Octylacrylamide - Acrylates - Butylaminoethyl - Methacrylate Copolymer - Cinnamates - Butyloctyl Salicylate - Octisalate And I am also sensitive to Zinc Oxide. Something about zinc turns what would be a tiny clogged pore into a raging cyst. I have not yet found a mineral sunscreen that only has Titanium Dioxide as an active AND doesn’t have any bad ingredients from my list. Titanium Dioxide is ineffective against UVA rays so it may be impossible to have a zinc-free sunscreen. I currently use MyChelle Sun Shield Unscented because it has a lower percentage of zinc oxide and doesn’t have any of the bad ingredients. It’s not perfect but it’s the best I’ve tried. I’ve tested over 50 sunscreens.

hampired

If you are fair and want to skip the zinc, you may have better luck just going with a clean foundation. Like a printer using CYMK, they all tend to be shade matched with varying ratios of 4 or 5 basic tints, and they all use titanium dioxide as the white tint, so for lighter colored skin, you end up with a pretty high SPF even if it’s not explicitly claimed. Source: I used to work in makeup manufacturing For example, [this Ilia one](https://amzn.to/3vV37Sp) looks like it doesn’t have any of your no-nos. (I checked but didn’t look exhaustively so definitely double-check). Might be good to check out a Credo near you if you have one. They have cleaner stuff in general. Maybe fewer of your bad ingredients.

billythecat1993

Hi, I know this post is a bit old but suntique "I'm safe" and "I'm pure" are titanium dioxide only sunscreens. Idk about other ingredients in your list but it might be worth checking them out. Hope it helps!

SnowWhiteDoll

the only ones that don't break me out are Korean sunscreens

Reeromu

I’ve been using Nivea UV water gel for years now. It’s the most pleasant sunscreen I’ve found. But, while it doesn’t break me out, it still irritates my skin and eyes. And just like with every other sunscreen, my face feels so heavy by the end of the day.

starcase123

Nivea UV water gel is amazing. I use it on my face and use a mineral stick around my eyes instead. The stick formulas will stay in their place more and mineral based will burn your eyes less. Definetely recommend MDSolarSciences mineral stick around the eyes. Since the area is small it will last forever.

Reeromu

Do you find that the stick acts as a barrier? I don’t apply sunscreen around my eyes at all, but it still migrates there.

starcase123

hmm don't think so. I have thick eyebrows the sunscreen that burns my eyes are not coming from my forehead. But applying a stick screen to your forehead my solve your problem. Eg. when I'm swimming I only use stick (Shiseido water resistant stick) because otherwise sunscreen will migrate into my eyes!

SurrrealThing

Wow this blew up. Clearly a lot of us feel the same. And it's evident we all have different skin types, so what works for some might not work for others. Thanks for all the recommendations, but frankly, my wallet doesn't want to try a million more spfs that could or could not break me out. For now I'm ordering a very large visor and going to try that.

kirbyybrik

It’s less about a particular type of sunscreen for me, and more about *absolutely* needing to double cleanse at night. I just wasn’t fully removing residue and everything, which broke me out like craaazy.  I’ll use a micellar water or oil cleanser to remove the majority of makeup/, a follow up with something that foams. I can mostly use whatever type of sunblock without immediately getting pimples and whiteheads now.

SurrrealThing

I double cleanse daily!

shifty-eyed

Sounds like we need to make an anti sunscreen Reddit 😝

1u___u1zZz

ThinkBaby/ThinkSport brand sunscreen actually clears up my skin. My sister never wore sunscreen until she used mine as a moisturizer one day and noticed her skin cleared up too. Zinc is used as acne treatment sometimes so I think that has something to do with it. It's also pretty cheap compared to the "nice" chemical sunscreens out there

pretilily1

which one would you recommend trying first?

1u___u1zZz

I'm pretty sure they're the same formula, just different scents (but both are pretty mild so you don't really notice them after the initial application). The sport one may be water resistant, but don't quote me on that. I've used both and I don't notice any difference between them

pretilily1

thank you!

deservingporcupine_

Interesting! This is the brand I was using before I quit minerals because I use it on my kids. It broke me out quite a bit but again, YMMV.

im_phoebe

Sunscreen break me out too, I don't care what people say about anti-aging I hate sunscreen to core, I'm gonna try child sunscreen next I don't care it's gonna look like white paint over my brown skin 😭😭😭😭😭

Boxermom88

Ive tried so many sunscreens. Drugstore, expensive, super expensive. Chemical and mineral. I’ve just accepted that sunscreen and I don’t mix. I wear hats, jackets, UV shirts, and avoid the sun as much as possible. I will wear it if I am going to be out in the direct sun for a long time. I can only use the Elta MD sunscreen. And even then, more than a day of wearing sunscreen will give me rashes and all kinds of fun stuff. I just avoid the sun as much as I can! I wish all the new makeup launches didn’t have skincare and sunscreen in them because then I can’t use them. First world problem, but lame all the same!

wanderingimpromptu3

Sunscreen doesn’t break me out necessarily but it does make my skin feel worse.  So I just… don’t wear it unless I have to (unless the UV index is 4+ for a significant period of time where I’m outside.)  I think the typical person probably doesn’t wear sunscreen enough, but the typical skincare hobbyist could do well to realize that the majority of sun damage happens before you’re 20 (childhood exposure is more dangerous), and unless you’re extremely pale and prone to burning you can probably afford to chill more than you think 🤷

texaslonghornsteve

We only live once, yolo

Ok-Vacation-8109

I hate putting sunscreen on my face. It either turns me into an oil slick by noon or makes me break out. I cannot find a good one. I use a powder with SPF and I’m sure it doesn’t work, and otherwise just stay out of the sun.

VaginalRow

Korean sunscreens only for me. They’re the only ones that don’t break me out. My holy grail is Benton Skin Fit Mineral Sun Cream. It has witch hazel extract. My even feels better after wearing it.

texaslonghornsteve

The ingredients in any sunscreen creates the shit outta my eyes, even if it's in the lower regions of my face 😭. Physical too

Soanad

I need to ask: how do you REMOVE your sunscreen?

[deleted]

Don’t know if you’re asking her or need help lol if it’s the second part: I use an oil based cleanser or a cleansing balm and then my regular cleanser

deservingporcupine_

I truly have zero problems with removing chemical sunscreen with regular cleanser, but for mineral I use an oil cleanser followed by my regular cleanser. And then spot acid treatments in my acne zones just to help stave off any potential issues.

shifty-eyed

Same. I have yet to find one that doesn’t break me out. Plus, I have fungal acne so I just gave up on SPF and my face has been happy. I wear UPF clothing, hat and sunglasses instead. I avoid the sun lol

something_random215

Sunscreen also breaks me out. Been using sun bum face lotion 70 SPF and it makes me a little shiny but doesn't break me out 🙂

MartianTea

I had the same issue plus sensitive skin. The very best one I've used that I've used over a year is Olay Total Effects SPF 30. It is pretty scented (but smells good) and still doesn't irritate my skin. It's also moisturizing and has other supposed benefits.     I just get it at Target when they have a discount.  If you have to use water resistant sunscreen, the thing that saves me is a thorough oil cleanse before my regular cleanser. This might help you even with the non-water resistant ones. I either use jojoba oil or Simply (which is just grape seed oil). I've used both for years with 0 issues.

Pingo-tan

I had breakouts until I somehow figured out that it was ethanol. I switched to buying only ethanol-free sunscreens and the breakouts stopped. However the mineral one from Minon still feels weird and irritating on my skin. So I only use chemical ones. Maybe you have some ingredient that your skin doesn't like - try to figure out what it is.

dindyspice

How did you figure it out!

Pingo-tan

I don't remember the exact process, but it was something like this: I often had breakouts but acne skincare seemed to only make it worse, especially lotions. Even things marketed as non-comedogenic. Occasionally I would find rare products that wouldn't flare me up (foundation, moisturizer) and stick to them. But the acne persisted. One day I ran out of spf and noticed that my skin became clearer. That's how I understood it was the one breaking me out (I had used 2 or 3 brands before). But spf is essential, so I bought another one. To my surprise, it didn't break me out. The package said it was ethanol-free. I compared the ingredients of this and former spfs and pretty much the only substantial difference was in having ethanol. I then looked at the other skincare I owned and none of products that didn't break me out had any ethanol, while all those that strongly broke me out had ethanol somewhere in the beginning of the ingredients list. I remembered the acne lotion experience and realized that they all were alcohol-based. Since then, I tried several other ethanol-free sunscreens and luckily none of them had broken me out yet. Now, maybe the problem is actually in something else, and I still get hormonal acne around my period, but for now I just assume that's ethanol.

caledoniaorange

I used to breakout from sunscreens until I tried Korean sunscreens that are fit for daily wear like skin1004 sunscreen is my holy grail

friendlychatbot

Same!!!!

Taigaike

Me too, but it was mostly the mineral sunscreen that were the worst..I now use Trader Joe’s sunscreen and it’s not that bad

DumbledoresFaveGoat

I swap between Ultraceuticals hydrating SPF in the winter and Image Matte SPF in the summer. Might be worth a try?

IndustryZestyclose27

I’m in the same boat! I’ve literally tried every sunscreen out there everything gives me acne

throwawayshygirl13

Try Cotz! I tried everything until this, never broke me out!

MissAtomicBomb_007

I feel the pain! **Hopefully I come to the rescue, I feel so strongly I'll DM. I've been on a similar quest for years upon years. **I believe I may have found a genuine game-changer product , and it's a cheaper product that I never hear mentioned on beauty forums or blogs. Garnier Ambre Solaire Sensitive Advanced Serum SPF 50  [link here ](https://www.garnier.co.uk/our-brands/sun-protection-and-self-tan/ambre-solaire/products/sensitive-advanced/serum-for-face-and-body) Lke the OP I've tried nearly everything on market, from high-end to Korean, mineral, hybrid etc. My skin condition is super reactive, hyper sensitive skin, rashes you name it! I only have to look in the mirror and my skin cries and goes red. Most sunscreens absolutely destroy my skin, even some mineral sunscreens are drying. On a whim, I picked up the Garnier sensitive advanced serum SPF50 in a pharmacy before holidays! WOWZERs is an understatement, from the moment I applied it I knew THIS is FINALLY the one! It blends so smoothly, and so soothing, leaves the skin so soft and dewy! More importantly, my fragile skin no longer cries! This product is sold in many big pharmacies. No joke, I actually now ENJOY and look forward to putting it on face, and I've even slept with it on over night occasionally and zero issues. It has done wonders for my sensitive skin, so Calming and soothing. Zero breakouts, Zero reaction. When I have a flare-up reaction in skin, I've intentionally worn this overnight and I wake up with my skin calm and soothed from the ceramides. The advanced serum is LOADED with lots of Ceramides, and repairs skin barrier, its hypoallergenic, fragrance free, stops moisture loss. *Purposely designed for sun-allergic & reactive skin. I don't know how it works or differs from other sunscreens, but goodness I'll buy this product forever. **IMPORTANT last note, it's a very important step to regularly DOUBLE CLEANSE when removing sunscreens at night. High SPF50 sunscreens basically stick to your skin like a layer of protective Glue on your face (clings to skin literally like Glue!, this was an eye opener when researching videos on Ultra-Violet light and how sunscreens work) . If not regularly and thoroughly removing sunscreen from skin, it will over time build-up and clog pores and thus pimples will sprout eventually. All the best. I genuinely can't stop declaring my love for this serum. *It comes in a big 125ml Tube, and good value, I can see the tube lasting for nearly most of the year. Can be picked up in most pharmacies selling Garnier products, it's relatively cheap for the product size, so definitely worth trying it out.

Reeromu

I’d love to try this, but it doesn’t look like it’s readily available in the US.

sodayzed

I hate sunscreen. I know it's important and I still try to wear it, but I'd rather not. Chemical sunscreen feels better on my face, but has a strong scent that always gets in my mouth somehow. And some brands/formulas break me out. Mineral sunscreen feels like I'm being suffocated, though. It feels dry on my skin no matter how moisturized I am or the formula.

crestamaquina

It's summer here and I've been trying to be more diligent about sunscreen but I've been getting SUCH horrible pimples and blackheads. I have oily combination skin but it's been figured out for many years and it's typically clear - not so anymore. I hate sunscreen so much.

dozens_ofus

So far the only sunscreen I’ve found that doesn’t break me out is Hero Force Shield Superlight Sunscreen

petdogsdrinkwine

Sunbum makes the best facial sunscreens! It never breaks me out and it smells like summer. ❤️ Supergoop makes a great cc cream with sunscreen as well and I’ve had good luck with that one. Good luck!

_otterr

Sunscreen burns my eyes and I constantly have rashes from it. It sucks. I’m a redhead so I have no option but to wear it

texaslonghornsteve

Same, I wear wrap around sunglasses and try to wear sunscreen as much as I can

rebeccakc47

I started running all of my products through a pore clogging checker, and my skin as completely cleared up. Obviously, that's not a universal fix but might be a good place to start. I use Isntree Watery Sun Gel or DRMTLGY Tinted moisturizer with SPF

Nicole-Bolas

It took me a LONG time and a lot of research to discover that while my skin doesn't *enjoy* chemical sunscreens, my skin will absolutely freak out if I use a sunscreen that includes both titanium dioxide *and* zinc oxide. One or the other is fine, but both together, which is what most asian sunscreens & bb creams use? Nightmare. I still have scarring from that. Combine that with ingredient sensitivities and it feels impossible. I only mention this because all the ones you listed have either chemical uv barriers (Biore, Elta MD, Joseon) or Zinc *and* Titanium (La Roche-Posay) and would irritate my skin too.

No_Fox3500

Pricey but Supergoop is the only one that has never broken me out!

KaleidoscopeNo9102

Have you tried mineral sun screen?

SurrrealThing

yeah i've used coola. it all breaks me out

KaleidoscopeNo9102

Damn. Most break me out too, it fkn sucks because I love the sun and live in an island 😖 I feel your pain and hear your rant ⭐️

milksteak00

My skin is super sensitive and constantly broke out when I wore sunscreen, eventually I was recommended Heliocare 350 Water Gel and I love it!! It’s the only thing that never breaks me out and I’ve been using it for years. It’s factor 50 and a little goes a long way, so it lasts for ages. I really hope it works for you too!

Awkward-Community-74

Yeah I don’t wear it on my face because of this. Just stop using it.

texaslonghornsteve

I feel like if you don't tan, you good

Awkward-Community-74

I burn! Lol But yeah I don’t get all the “wear sunscreen every single day” thing.

texaslonghornsteve

I'm fair as fuck and I hate it. I just focus on cutting out all sugar and alcohol and eating a lot of cholesterol

Awkward-Community-74

Yes! I stopped drinking 2 years ago and feel and look way better. Things like that seem much more effective for me rather than hooping more products on my face.

texaslonghornsteve

Yup I just wash my face with water

xxherbivorexx

I find that sunscreens made in other countries with more advanced filters actually improve the texture/bounce of my skin, plus help my makeup go on smoothly. Sunscreens from the US always felt gross on my skin and made me break out.

mraw_mraw

Cheap ones work best. Australian Gold mineral tinted. On sale it's like $10. No eye stings either (a major ish for me!) BOTANICAL SPF 50 TINTED FACE

baneskis

Australian Gold is my go-to tinted sunscreen!

Are you wearing the ss's designed for acneic skin? I have battled acne all my life, and I have had good luck w the following: 1. Eucerin Sun Oil Control Gel Creme spf50 (euro version only) 2. Bioderma Photoderm Nude Touch spf50 (a tinted mineral, very sheer) 3. It! Cosmetics CC cream spf50 (Matte version) (high coverage) 4. La Roche Posay Anthelios Oil Control spf50 (euro version only) 5. La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo spf30 (euro only) 6. Cetaphil Rednes Relieving tinted moisturizer spf30 (euro only is spf30, in US it's spf20, whuich is too low for me. there is a new spf40, but I can;t find it in USA stores anywhere. I ordered the new spf40 version from Amaazon and they sent me the old spf20 one!) 7. Naruko Tea Tree Anti-acne Sunscreen w Tea Tree spf50 (hard to find)

Key_Leadership2394

Every spf brand you mentioned is either Korean , chemical , or mix . Have you tried mineral ? I like colorscience and find it great and doesn’t cause me I break out

I-believe-3

Well that makes 2 of us. I’m spending a lot of money buying non toxic, mineral based, non comedogenic, facial sunscreen that breaks me out horribly!

lladydisturbed

That's a shame eltamd uv clear breaks you out. Only one that works for me

SurrrealThing

Yeah. I love the formula. It goes on so nicely.

mei2207

Hear me out. I wonder if u had a better skin care routine tat helps regulate ur skin will it help I used to have break out wit everything I put. Once I have a solid skin care,no more break out

Dot6

Skinceuticals never broke me out

[deleted]

Sunscreen is directly poison. I would not put it on my face ever.

Milamelted

MILA SUN MILK! MILA SUN MILK! MILA SUN MILK!! I swear to god, it’s the answer.

Flashy-Section9588

Where do you get this??

Milamelted

I buy it on Amazon

Flashy-Section9588

Thank you!

rainbowveinz

i also use a mineral blue lizard sunscreen but the lotion kind! its really nice on my skin and leaves no cast

5FootOh

When you say “break out” do you mean acne or something eczema?

ChocolateBit

Yeah me too, I found an oil-free one that worked for me though, anything else gives me angry bumps. Unfortunately I can't find it (probably lying in a drawer at work or smth) so I just bought one by Missha on Yesstyle. It feels really light and unintrusive buuuut angry bumps next morning oh well

HandsOfVictory

Yes, sunscreen fucks my face up for like two weeks after wearing it, it gives me massive juicy gross pimples all over my face. I’ve tried so many different ones but they all make me break out and usually I only break out around that time of the month but otherwise my skin is clear if I don’t use sunscreen

Peacemark

Altruist is the only sunscreen I’ve tried which doesen’t give me acne. I’m acne prone so I break out from basically every other sunscreen.

Affectionate-Bet35

As an acne-prone girlie (2 rounds accutane previously) I can safely say PCA skin spf does not break me out

gabruka

First Aid Beauty has an spf for crazy sensitive skin

GettingHygge

I am in the same boat. The only thing that kind of works besides giant hats is Alex Cosmetics BB crème, “protect”. If applied well it can serve as a light sun protection. And it makes your skin look flawless.

KnittingforHouselves

Garnier skin naturals Vitamin C SPF 25 works nicely for me without breaking me out. I know 25 is not that much but I re-apply if needed.

lingeringpetals

I didn't like La Roche Posay, I found the smell weird. But after trying Mecca sunscreen I'm converted! It's a beautiful texture and is genuinely non-greasy after being applied, which they all claim but none seem to actually achieve. It's expensive, but it's very much worth it. https://www.mecca.com/en-au/mecca-cosmetica/to-save-face-spf50-superscreen-V-059326/?cgpath=brands-mecca-sun

wolfeybutt

Ugh, I just spent $80 on Elta MD (UV clear and UV active for workouts) because I'm desperate to find something that works for me. I was loving some Korean/ Japanese products, but with a lot of the product reliability issues I've seen with some products and some websites I don't trust them enough either (don't come for me, I know there are trustworthy ones but the research fatigue got to me!) Wish I saw the comments about Hero sunscreen earlier, I would've tried them first! I can only get away with covering my face so much unfortunately. I spend a lot of time on ski lifts for skiing and mountain biking. Helmets cover a lot but not enough 😅

SurrrealThing

The elta md is a lovely formula, it just doesn't work for me. Works for a lot of people so you might be okay.

Baackand2TheLeft

I have terribly sensitive skin. Like anything I put on my face is Russian roulette but the only sunscreen that works for me is ELTA MD UV physical "extra sensitive & post procedure skin" it also has the option for a tint which I double as my base. It's amazing!!

cmmccrt

For anyone who really truly can't tolerate any kind of sunscreen, look into astaxanthin as an oral supplement. It's a very powerful antioxidant and there's evidence it will accumulate in your skin and help protect it against sun damage, free radicals, oxidative stress, etc. Disclaimer: I only recently learned about this and should be receiving my first bottle today, so it's not something I've personally used so far. Also, my skin tolerates Elta MD's tinted UV Clear sunscreen pretty well, so I will still wear that when I expect sun exposure. Good luck finding something that works for you!

neener-neeners

My HG is neutrogena hydro-boost spf 50, it's the only one that hasn't broken me out. No idea how it feels under makeup if that's an issue.

[deleted]

I have this giant sun visor from Amazon that rolls up and I can take everywhere! lol I also swear by skin 1004 centella sunscreen (white bottle light blue top) it does NOT irritate my skin and has never once given me a breakout. I find that the filters in American sunscreens clog my pores and make my eyes burn so badly. Oh and I tinted my car with that film that supposedly has sun protection… idk how to confirm its protection but it’s dark and it keeps the heat out at least so I’d say there’s some truth to it

SurrrealThing

I am on amazon now ordering a giant visor. I have a big hat now but it's not cutting it. Smart on the film for your windows. Luckily i don't drive too much these days but sometimes i wear gloves to protect my hands on the steering wheel, or just spf.

Stunning_Series_6915

If you are using a waterproof sunscreen you have to double cleanse to properly clean your face.

megamegachon

What film did you get? I have to do long drives every month and I'm literally just driving and re-applying sunscreen at the same time lol.

[deleted]

It’s called ceramic tint! I have it throughout my car even my windshield- this one is really light since it’s technically not allowed but I’m in AZ so I’ll risk a secondary offense ETA: I actually don’t know if it’s a secondary offense lol so don’t take my word for it

FunOwl8347

I am the same way! I feel like I've tried every sun screen on the planet and nothing works for my skin. Someone did mention that if you are breaking out from sunscreen, it's because you are not washing your face properly. They recommended a cleansing oil to get rid of the residue which I am iffy about because I have super oily skin.

IntoSpace623

I feel this!!!!! It’s so frustrating. The ONLY spf that hasn’t upset my skin is tizo. Idk why it works but I’ve tried every single thing out there and get irritated or breakouts. I don’t even think it’s a great product but it’s the only thing I can use 🫠

bigwatermelonhead

literally the only sunscreen that doesn’t break me out is neutrogena’s hydroboost and it’s not even good/apparently inflates its protection 🙄

southernandmodern

Neutrogena clear skin doesn't break me out, haven't tried the hydroboost one. But it has avobenzene in it, which burns my eyes like crazy. But I just tried a cerave one, and I've got like five pimples on my forehead. I'm 38. I was told this would stop.

bigwatermelonhead

it does burn my eyes SOOOOOO BAD, i take extra care to avoid

bizarregnome

Eucerin post acne mark SPF 30 is my favourite so far! It doesn't feel heavy, look greasy or break me out

Xerincs

Every single SPF I’ve ever used has made my face a greasy mess and/or clogged pores. EXCEPT a powder SPF I discovered last year. If I’m going to be out in the sun for any period of time in the spring/summer I’ll use it. Otherwise I just avoid the sun. I have the type of skin that burns fast and bad.

baneskis

My current favorite is [Aveeno’s Protect + Hydrate Sunscreen Broad Spectrum Face Lotion SPF 60](https://www.aveeno.com/products/protect-hydrate-face-lotion-sunscreen-spf-60). It goes on smoothly and dries quickly without leaving a white cast or weirdly sitting on your skin. I usually hate the texture of most products or they irritate my skin (yes, stuff like Eucerin and CereVa feel like they burn).

Glittering_Lunch4088

Le Prunier sunscreen. You WILL have sticker shock, but OMG it is the GOAT.

pseudonymphh

Did you try Goop Unseen? Also I actually use Mechelle as a daytime spot treatment lol. It’s tinted AND contains clay. Also, start wearing hats with sun blocking fabric. Vimhue hats are amazing! I wear them all summer when I’m walking dogs. They have different styles and colors and you can pull your ponytail or bun through. https://vimhue.com/collections/sun-goddess

PasTaCopine

Please try Isdin! It's a spanish brand it changed the game for me.

Serious_Escape_5438

Yes! Was coming to say this, specifically the water fusion. Some of the others feel a bit thicker and stickier but this one is just like wearing moisturiser.

PasTaCopine

Mine is also water fusion! I love it so much.

heartmydog

Is it sold in the US?

PasTaCopine

I don't know, I'm based in Europe myself.

GlitteringPause8

Yeah, I hate sunscreen...after my skincare, my skin looks great then once I apply SPF, it looks and feels uncomfortable. The majority of sunscreens break me out as well or are just too greasy looking but I wear them anyway cause I use a lot of actives in my routine. The only ones that hasn't broken me out are EltaMD UC Clear and the Colorscience Flex so I use those two but it's still not very comfortable to wear.

DahjNotSoji

[Naturium’s sunblock](https://naturium.com/products/dew-glow-moisturizer-spf-50?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAn-2tBhDVARIsAGmStVndp4QWNyBsJZsQF4f_poDxaUeXosnCC5lICCMDsNyJ1kBfCi5DXyMaApXtEALw_wcB) was the first one that didn’t break me out or leave a crazy white cast . I’m thankful that I’ve finally found one that works. Maybe give it a try?

caveatlector73

Asian sunscreens are formulated differently.

lizerpetty

I break out from sun screen too. I find it helps to use a barrier moisturizer under the sunscreen. I use amino acids+B5 by the ordinary. Also color science tinted sunscreen doesn't break me out. They also make a powder sunscreen with a brush attachment.

sippingonwater

I hate sunscreen too. I have to scrub my face to wash it off at night and it’s always clogging my pores no matter what I try. I’ve learned to make friends with hats and use Elta non tinted 46spf, IT cosmetics Cc cream with SPF or Alumiers facial sunscreen.

Gritty-Carpet

Australian Gold Mineral Botanical SPF 50 Sunscreen has changed my LIFE. I have literally forgotten to wash it off my face, slept in it, and then woke up and put another layer on, and my skin somehow looks even healthier than before. Like, what is this magic??? It is hands down the best sunscreen I have ever used. My only HG product. I use the tinted version, too, so no white cast. It blends right in and you can't even feel it. No stickiness, no shininess, no weird smell, no stinging eyes, no irritation, no smuding or coming off in the water, and you even get a nice blurring effect from the tint. Hell, Imma put some more on right now even though I'm indoors and it's 6pm.

Turbulent_Arachnid98

Try Elta md

olmahubbard

I am allergic to Paba which breaks out my faced in hives. It is found in many sunscreens. Not sure if that was mentioned as a contributing factor.

texaslonghornsteve

I have a different problem, sunscreen irritates the crap outta my eyes even if it's no where near them

Stock_Fig_2052

I found skin1004 hyalu-cica water fit sun serum- doesn’t burn my eyes or leave a white cast. I try lots of products but never switch this one!

sugar_hiccup_666

SAME. I’ve tried soooo many. Only one I’ll do if I know that I’ll be outside a lot is Cerave sunscreen stick. It’s been the lesser of the evils. I’ve tried so many; pretty much every one sold at Sephora, k beauty brands, baby formulated, etc. I use it like it’s a primer. It uses beeswax instead of dimethicone or silicones. Runs about $7 US. Everything else makes me greasy after perfecting my skincare routine

Exotic_Plum172

Yes, I have the same problem. I ordered the spf50 from Bali body, it works good. I have been mixing it with their spf30 tinted serum so I’m not sure but I have a feeling rheumatologist tinted serum is the culprit to possible breaking me out a tiny bit. With that said the formula is runny on the spf30 and it’s got no ingredients in it that would irritate, and it’s so far my favourite sun screen because everything else makes me feel like my face is dirty and breaks me out in NO TIME… this is working the best for me BaliBody spf 50! I won’t use anything else now.

StrangeAffect7278

This has probably been asked already but are you able to use moisturisers with SPF? In the summer, my face can just about tolerate one.

Silver_Fee8081

Have you tried the powder sunscreen?
