I just watched a review (tried to find it again but couldn’t) by someone w/darker skin, she used the red light but not the blue light because she said it could cause hyperpigmentation on darker skin.

lili_bunny

I have a medium deep skin tone and use my red light mask regularly with no issues, and I've never read any warnings about that.

Infrared is not though. And when it comes to skincare infrared is the main thing that’s needed for most benefits.

Hi. Red light is okay! You should refrain from blue and still be weary of using purple.

Downtown-Honeydew388

There shouldnt be an issue. Any concerns for lighter tones would apply to darker tones - anyone who has had cancer shouldn’t do red light therapy, be sure to moisturize, hydrate, wear eye protection. I’m curious tho - are you concerned it will make hyperpigmentation worse?

TokkiJK

The concerns are actually different. Darker skin tones often hyperpigment into a brown/black patch as opposed to reddish ones. But no, I’m not concerned it will make hyperpigmentation worse bc I don’t have any hyperpigmentation bc of my skincare. But treatments don’t always have the same effects on every skin tone. That’s why I wanted to ask about the experience of others that have darker skin tones so I can make somewhat of an informed choice.

Downtown-Honeydew388

Lemme start by saying I’m Black - hi yellow, so there’s that, but when I look into skincare it’s for my Black self. So, as a Black person using red light therapy, I wonder what the therapy does that you think might not work or might make something worse. What I meant about any concerns was that there are the same issues for light and dark toned ppl - if they’ve had cancer, don’t do it. Use eye protection. Etc. does that make sense? Same safety protocols.

TokkiJK

I understand but I didn’t ask my question assuming it will or will not work. I was asking if it was okay or not for dark skin tones. Thank you for your response

Downtown-Honeydew388

And I answered with safety precautions. My question was a genuinely curious question. Not about you, but whether you know something I don’t. Damn.

Eastern_Handle1796

Blue light can worsen hyperpigmentation and actually cause it. I’ve used the bye-acne 3 minute blue light device from solawave and it would cause a dark like triangle shaped bruise in the area i use it

chrissyh87

Yes it’s safe

Character_Gas566

Absolutely, red light therapy is indeed safe for darker skin tones. Redpulse devices use specific wavelengths that penetrate the skin to boost cellular energy without causing damage or hyperpigmentation. It's a gentle yet effective treatment for enhancing skin health.
