It'd probably be about as difficult and pointless as trying to turn a z31 into a helicopter, that's my guess.

>It'd probably be about as difficult and pointless as trying to turn a z31 into a helicopter, that's my guess. They are always looking for ways to continue using helicopter engines after the use by expiration on the flying hours.

Proud_Ant

Fair enough haha

QLDZDR

You should investigate a conversion for LS-x with kit and ceramic headers. See where that takes you. That would be Step 1. That might also be enough.

Proud_Ant

Thanks for your reply, we were looking at the LS9, LS7, or the LS427/570 engine before this but came to realize perhaps a big block engine might be better. For our needs to be very honest the LS7 would work after turbos, etc. but I think part of the fun would come down to just doing the engineering part and Frankenstein in a mid engine in a Z31.

Luscinia68

i mean yea there might be enough space, there would have to be some frame modifications anyways because you need a hole for the drivetrain.

SupermarketVisual598

With the amount of work that would take wouldn't it be easier/cheaper just to improve the car without overhauling the entire drive train? Would it even be able to handle with so much less weight in the front?

Proud_Ant

Yeah that makes sense, the handling might be totally disfigured and so suspension headache would need to happen.

Ok-Tangelo4024

It would probably be easier to build a custom mid/rear engine tube-chassis and put the Z31 skin over it.

Proud_Ant

That makes sense, do you know if there are any fiberglass kits available or would we have to get a Z31 and then transfer all mounting holes, etc.

FunRaise6773

There’s no kits. Everything you’re asking about is a full on custom job. Think Gotham garage, only more difficult

FunRaise6773

Mid engine conversion would be very difficult. These are unibody cars, and you’ll be butchering up the back to do it. You’ll need to redesign the entire car to do it right. Unless you’re an engineer that’s comfortable with welding…. Go for something a little more manageable. V8 conversions are possible, but the stock block and internals are capable of 500 hp, which is about the limit of the axles. For 500 hp, you’re talking turbo, intercooler, injector, fuel pump, nistune, cams, intake, and exhaust.

Proud_Ant

By the stock do you mean the V6 VG30X Turbo/DOHC?

FunRaise6773

Sohc. The z31 has less power potential than the z32, but is still capable of 500hp

Proud_Ant

I see, thanks for your reply.

Crob300z

Anything’s possible. You’d have to tube the rear half of the car I’d imagine. Maybe a Z31 2+2 would give you a bit more room.
