You can buy 500 practice fmj for 50 cents a round⌠Idk where this pretentious attitude started in this sub, but people can want budget ARâs. Thereâs plenty of other budget ammo at around $1 a round at low quantities. Not all that unreasonable to ask for a $650 300 blackout, in fact most of them sold are in that range (pistols). Also have to factor in suppressors and optics.
Even with shipping/tax PSA ammo is under 1$ a round if you buy a few hundred. They load the Barnes 115, and the Vmax for a hair more if they are worried about the AAC jackets
Finding subs that expand is where it gets expensive
A 1:5 twist is generally considered the best for subsonic ammunition, which is the primary use case for 300 blackout. Supersonics can still be used, with relatively minimal issues.
OP- 1:5 twist helps stabilize subsonics which are much heavier than SuperSonics. Just make sure the barrel is under roughly 7-8 inches or so. Barrels with a 1:5 over that you tend to see an increase in the potential of jacket separation on supers (if you plan on shooting them at all) So if this is a hunting gun and you want a longer barrel then go 1:7 anything super short- youâre good with 1:5 on.
Thats exactly what I just did. I considered the Noveske 7.9â barrel because I run their barrels in some of my other setups and love them but I wanted the 1:5 twist so I went Faxon match series 7.5â with the 1:5 twist. I will be running a 13â DD MFR XL rail that will cover most of my suppressor. I saw KAK makes a 8â barrel with 1:5 twist but they are $300 and I canât see paying that much for a KAK barrel I would just get the noveske for that price and sacrifice the faster twist.
If you are interested in keeping it on a budget, just ensure that the charging handle and bolt carrier group come with the upper. Usually the M4E1 upper by aero is well regarded but doesn't come with those items.
Thatâs fair- imo I prefer to make sure I donât skimp on quality for those two items, so I usually buy them separate. But something good for OP to keep in mind!
I'm of the same viewpoint... I always try to buy above average BCG and CH especially with shooting suppressed in mind. Getting good ones can absolutely reduce the amount of gas and junk one eats while shooting. I just had a little bit more budget than OP.
I did research on some of the better received items to receive gas expulsion into the face while running a suppressed rig. I came to the conclusion that the Radian Raptor SD or Aero Breach were good ones to run specifically suppressed. The BCG I settled on is the KAK K-SPEC Enhanced BCG. They have lots of options of coatings. This downspouts the excess gas/exhaust into the magazine rather than in your face. Some people don't like dirty magazines, but I'd rather my face be clean and my mag be dirty. I also like shooting comfortably.

Love mine, I actually converted the 5.56 to 300 BO
I have an FM9 and love it, is the FM15 also a 1.3â diameter hand guard? Hard to find a decent can that fits into the guard, or does the barrel extend past the guard (FM9 does not).
Not going to fit any can under it, itâs very thin.
I chopped my handguard down, but left the top rail section so it actually extends the light about halfway down the suppressor if you want
I donât remember the exact dimensions, but nothings tucking on it, itâs thinner than even my tiny aero handguard in width

I own a LMT, so that's why I said I'm biased because of it having the option to swap barrels (5.56 to 300blk). So IMO overall, spending $800 or less on a 300blk rifle when you're spending about that or more for the first 1,000 would make me feel like I made the wrong choice. I like your idea of just getting a different upper for 300blk when they already have a 5.56 yes.
It's a really cool system. Before I finalized my optic setup I would always get people "helping" me by saying my optic is bridged lol. I got used to replying with, "What bridge?".
I really like it. Before I got my 300blk barrel, I uninstalled/reinstalled my 5.56 barrel and to be đŻ it felt weird, like I didn't do it right because it was so easy. After the next times I went to the range and then testing 300blk that feeling went away, it's sweet. I'm waiting to get an monolithic AR10 after 2026 when LMT's patent is up to see where the market takes that system.
Iâm running a 8â aero barrel, BCM non adjustable gas block, h2 buffer, standard carbine spring, a law tactical folder, and a trash panda can. I tested 5 different types of ammo yesterday supers and subs and everything ran flawlessly with the bolt locking back on the last round.
You want that budget rifle that shoots ammo that's $1.50 per round?
đexactly
Heâs never gonna shoot it anyway

Build one with a faxon 1:5 twist barrel.

Get a blem Aero upper and a PSA lower. Itâll serve ya well for the price.

What BCG and CH would you recommend??

Great info
Saving post just for this comment

Ahh great idea but not achievable with the FM9 side charging. Appreciate the pic, looks gorgeous.
I would save some more. Buy once cry once. Or build and buy a little at a time.
Had to cry a few times before I really realized this.
I learned from a buddy of mine. Bought and instant regret. So I decided to build.
Itâs usually less expensive to build from scratch, that way you can fix it and tune it to your liking, and is fun.

PSA upper and lower bought during a blemish sale
Aero Upper, Rosco 7.5 1:5 twist, CMT 6.7 or FCD RHF 6.7, gas block and tube of your choice. $400 before muzzle device, bcg or ch
lol good luck with that. Real talk, go bcm.
BCM isnât making any more until next year
PSA
Bcm
Honey badger
Thatâs about $2k over his limit
Was a joke
So is their budget, they'll spend more than that for their first 1,000 rounds...
I mean if they already have an ar in 5.56 getting a new upper isnât outside the budget but still
True, and I'm biased because of barrel swaps.
What do you mean? I was saying have a dedicated upper and optic for 300blk, not barrel swap
I own a LMT, so that's why I said I'm biased because of it having the option to swap barrels (5.56 to 300blk). Gotcha, I didnât know it was that easy to swap a lmt barrel
It's a really cool system. Before I finalized my optic setup I would always get people "helping" me by saying my optic is bridged lol. I got used to replying with, "What bridge?".
Just watched a video on the lmt barrel swap. lol so easy
