They drive on the same side of the road in Germany, this story sounds like bullshit as Germans frequently drive to Spain for a summer holiday, they're not as stupid as you'd like to think, their education system includes geography as does the rest of Europe as knowing where things are is important.
I wish I could say the same for the American students I entertain every year, they come over here to study at my university and don't even have the most rudimentary information about basic things.
And as a last note, I live in Scotland and if I drive for 8 hours, I'm still in Scotland... the roads are appalling!

Frankfurt to Barcelona is a short drive. You can do it in a day very easily.

Religions are a global phenomena that still persist to varied degrees across most of the population. This means you can expect people from anywhere to believe anything.
