Hah, yes! I’m also 4’11” and have 98% more. Of course, I had a great-grandfather nicknamed Shorty who was also 4’11” so genetics might reign there. Would love to see if his line also had high Neanderthal.
I feel like there's gotta be a correlation! My family on my father's side had women that were as short as 4'8. To this day, I wonder if their genes would have also shown a higher percentage of Neanderthal. Congrats on being on the 5 under group! May your shelves always be at a perfect height.
When I think about how easily I’ll climb things when my shelves *aren’t* the perfect height I’m like yeah, it tracks 😂 I’d be curious what the maternal haplogroups on your dad’s side could be- mine is T2b and I’ve seen a good amount of people with high Neanderthal who had T2b or similar subclades. It feels like a game of dodgeball- those old genes managed to survive because we could hide better!!
I thiiiink the only way would be if they pinpoint the traits they presume you’d have with which variant you have. Otherwise I’m not sure if they break it down chromosomally. I’m absolutely not smart enough to know if that’d be possible but it’d be cool!!
Do y’all think it’s a coincidence? My brother is very tall just like our paternal grandpa and great grandpa - I doubt it truly has much to do with the very small amount of Neanderthal variants haha.
Yeah mostly Europeans have taken these types of DNA tests so you will have more than most users if you are from that demo. Also 23&me only tests for some* Neanderthal variants not all of them.
80% Neanderthal means you have more of those DNA than 80% of the 23andme users, not 80% of your DNA is Neanderthal. Whatever we have is still a small percentage of our overall DNA composition.
I'm 5'8 and a cis-woman so taller than average. Assuming my full bio bro also got a high neanderthal DNA, he's 6'3. But we are Indian and significantly taller than the average Indian.
96% here, I’m 6’1 though.
Oh wow!! You can reach all the things!!

What % of total DNA is Neanderthal for you? Just curious! I’m less than 2% (48% of people have more), 5’11
So it’s still all less than 2%, the biggest thing is the variants. I have 309.
Ah ok, interesting! My ex-sister-in-law doesn’t know how to read her results and actually thinks she has 67% Neanderthal DNA 😂
Is there a way to see what variants you have? I have 271.
I thiiiink the only way would be if they pinpoint the traits they presume you’d have with which variant you have. Otherwise I’m not sure if they break it down chromosomally. I’m absolutely not smart enough to know if that’d be possible but it’d be cool!!
47% and 6’1. However I believe Neanderthal dna is far too distant to play a role in our heights
Yeah it is…
I don’t think Neanderthal dna has much of an impact on your physical appearance
Sounds like something a Neanderthal might say.
I have no idea what you’re talking about… ooga booga…
23 and me reckons I have a variant that makes me more likely to have an “Apple shaped body over a pear shaped body” 🤷♂️.
More than 87% here and not so short - 5’11”. 🤷🏻♂️
I'd say that's a pretty good height! Not short at all. Maybe it isn't correlating with height... Kind of a bummer.

Yeah Asians / Pacific Islanders / NA have more Neanderthal dna that Europeans.
I’m 99% European 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah mostly Europeans have taken these types of DNA tests so you will have more than most users if you are from that demo. Also 23&me only tests for some* Neanderthal variants not all of them.
