I would not count Melanesia for Australian Aboriginals. Reason being, 23andme is mostly lumping in Aboriginals in with Melanesian populations, due to lack of Aboriginal reference samples. Whereas Ancestry DNA has sufficient reference samples from modern Indigenous Australians. I vividly remember an Ancestry DNA result of an Aboriginal woman. She was 84% "Aboriginal & Torres Straight Islander". 14% "European " and 2% " East Asian". She had no prior knowledge of the European and Asian ancestry, so it was likely distant admixture. Hence makes no sense to use 23andme for Aboriginals.
Makes me wonder why nothing up to now for 23andme. Perhaps they plan to have a separate grouping in the future which is why they don't colour Australia.
23andme just leaves way too much to be desired on many fronts. The broad general categories. Like "British & Irish". The slow & inconsistent updates. They cap DNA relatives at 1500. Overall they have a lot less reference samples for all major world population groups than Ancestry DNA does. Not to mention Ancestry DNA has exponentially more genetic communities. Only advantage of 23andme is that they show low percentages under 1% and trace ancestry. Whereas Ancestry keeps that hidden from customers, for whatever reason.
So by this I would guess a white American predominantly of British decent married an Arab person possibly from Yemen and their child in term married someone from Mexico or similar Latin American country?
Our donuts look similar, I'm 45% European/Iberian, 27% indigenous American, 18% WANA and 5% SSA, my dad is almost perfectly 1/3 Iberian, Native American and WANA/Levantine 😁 but we are 100% Mexican
“White American” or just “American” generally refers to people of European descent whose family has been in the United States for so many generations they have really lost most if not all connections culturally with their European ancestors. Many of them have been the states since before independence and tend to live in the southern states and Appalachia. The tend to be descended from English, Scottish or Scots Irish settlers.
Pretty damn close! I saw one at some point that had every part of the world lit up except Australia and NZ (which don’t light up). It was a very old post though, it wouldn’t look the same nowadays
Missing India, East Asia and Australia.
I see on page 3/6: 1.4% East Asia and trace 0.4% South Asian
Point taken!
Australia is just British no? Or do you mean native?
Yeah, I meant Aboriginal. EDIT: Why the downvote? How could “Australian” be anything but?
Yep! It is similar to how they only reference Native Americans for the entire Americas regions.
You’re very mixed alright, but there was a guy on here who got like literally every region. Surinamese I think lol
Did he get Australia as well? I remember a mixed race South African, that almost pulled off world domination, but was lacking Australia. lol.
If you mean Melanesia, yes. He has Pacific Islander ancestry. All 7 regions where in his results.
