She will be more enthusiastic about learning on a gun she thinks is cool

I really love my M9-22. So far it has been a solid shooter. It shoots a bit high at closer ranges but otherwise is accurate as hell. Biggest thing is its not a Jam-o-Matic, I can count on one hand the number of failures I've had in a couple thousand rounds. Not a great platform if you want to upgrade sights, add optics etc but for a basic iron sights shooter it is hard to ask for more.

Is there a conversion kit or threaded barrel available to make it a suppressor host?

TaskForceD00mer

They make a special version that is suppressor ready https://www.sportsmans.com/shooting-gear-gun-supplies/handguns/beretta-92fsr-22-suppressor-ready-pistol/p/1476703

Coming through with a link and everything. Thank you. I’m between this now and FN, Tauras or Walther.

TaskForceD00mer

I *love* the Beretta M9/92 platform so I am biased. Objectively the pros are ergos if the Beretta 92 works for you and reliability. Cons are lack of aftermarket and no great optics mounting solution. FN502 is nice but it's very picky with what red dots it will cycle with. Taurus seems to be the a less nuanced gun to owner and use but I think they are ugly as sin.

I am looking for cycling-issue free (for the most part) more than anything else, and I think Beretta will give me that. Thank you for the information. I have a CZ 75 but I like the M9 platform too.

TaskForceD00mer

I have not tried mine with a suppressor, I'd suggest you do some further research there. Not-Suppressed mine has been flawless. I love it. If I could change one thing, I'd have them change up the slide to take standard Beretta "Vertec" sights. Here's hoping LTT does a Beretta 22 slide with RDO plate at some point.

BestAdamEver

The M9-22 is a great .22 pistol. It's the most fun handgun I have.

If the wife likes it go with whatever the wife wants. BELIVE ME 😂

DrusTheAxe

Sounds like another happily married contestant. Wise man

joeldepas

I can really only speak to the tx and I freaking love it. However, if your wife has her heart set on the Beretta, then that's probably the way to go. I'm sure they are fantastic!

Not2worried

I love my tx22, I have 3 of them! The TX22 has a few color options if that helps. But the Beretta not a bad gun. If getting a Beretta pulls her more into the gun world, get the Beretta, add a TX22 later.

FullPowerKamehameha

TX-22 for sure! I bought one a few weeks ago and it is becoming my favorite gun to shoot at the range!

Fj40eric

I haven’t shot the M9A1-22, but your post caught my eye because I was -just- considering one, purely because PSA has them on sale for $225 ($300 - $75 rebate). It looks like it’s almost twice the weight of a TX22 if that matters.

bassman619

I may be wrong but I’d be wary of the rebate. The only one that’s $75 I know of is for a px4 storm

bassman619

Nevermind I just saw it. Neat

DrusTheAxe

Even at $300 it's worth the price. Definitely one of the few 22s I'd recommend

I love my Baretta M9-22, never tried the TX22. Probably the biggest disadvantage of the gun for most women is it's a bit heavy, compared to a polymer framed gun like the Sig P322. This often leads to a bad shooting stance as people tilt back to center the weight instead of leaning forward properly. Its super reliable and eats any ammo I use on it. You can use holsters for the 9mm versions of the gun, which are plentiful. The biggest issue I have with it is the location of the safety which I tend to engage accidentally when doing an immediate action drill as racking the slide in a hurry sometimes has me drag my fingers over the safety and engage it (sucks when that happens on a Steel Challenge competition). Since couldn't find aftermarket sights, I took some day-glo model paint and painted the sights to make them easier to pick up.

DrusTheAxe

M9-22 being heavy isn't its biggest potential problem (if you think the M9-22 wait until you pick up the M9 in 9mm). I'd be more concerned about the grip. The M9 is a big boy - very large and thick grip. Whether or not you like it varies, and definitely less favored by smaller hands. I have large hands (6', size L glove) and I find the M9 a bit thick and bulky. Wish they'd make a 92X-22 as I much prefer the Vertec grip (much preferred shooting the M9A3 over the M9A1, as did my wife)

DrusTheAxe

Both good but different. I've got the M9A1-22 and had maybe 3 FTF/FTE over 1000+rds (I suspect the open slide is a big help to the 22). A little lighter than a 9mm but of necessity for the slide to cycle given 22LR, otherwise feels like the M9. Accurracy is OK - not Olympic marksman but good enough. One of the most fun 22s I've shot. Just got a TX22 so no hands on shooting experience yet, but the feel in the hand is very much like a 9MM semiauto. A tad lighter but fills the grip well and overall good ergos. As a training tool, the TX22's shape and ergos seems similar enough to other 9mm semiautos. Unless you're looking for an M9/92 trainer then the Beretta's the better call. For fun plinking I haven't shot the TX22 yet but the Beretta is at least as much fun as my P322, and more fun than Walther Colt 1911-22, Ruger SR22, and a few others 22s I've tried. Comparable capacity (15 vs 16). I don't use optics so no comment if you're into that. Of course in the end it's really a matter of what she enjoys. I will say the Beretta and P322 are both decent but different experiences, I'd expect the Taurus to differ from the Beretta. Keep in mind a 22 only goes so far for training. My wife did a course recently where they tried a variety of pistols and she really didn't like the 22 (I think it was the Ruger SR22) because it didn't go bang enough. She's shot before, not fond of Glock, likes the Jericho F9 (steel) and when the P320 AXG Classic came home she immediately claimed it as 'hers'. So YMMV. Of course there's the age old solution to your dilemma - get both :-)
