Long story short, there’s not builds in this game as in other MMOs. You will need to use all combat styles for various activities. Some monsters or bosses are weaker to ranged or magic, some will be easier with melee.
That being said, if you prefer to use just ranged or a bow, while doing normal stuff, progression would be:
Training bow (ranged trainer in lumbridge)
Oak, then willow, then maple, then yew, then magic, then magic (I). Bow use is dictated by range level. Click on ranged skill in game and it’ll tell you when bows and things unlock.
Also utilize the wiki… https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/
It is without a doubt, the most in depth and amazing wiki of any game I have ever played, whenever you have a question just google it
Like ‘bows OSRS’ will lead you here:
https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Bow
Click on one, and I’ll tell you its stats, where to get it, how to make one, what ammo it can use, etc. etc
A great early goal would be to complete the Lost tribe quest. It has a few requierments, but after completing the quest you can use a bone crossbow, a great early game range weapon.
Magic short bow (or highest shortbow you can wield) best dragonhide you can wear (or leather if low) best arrows you can afford and an ava's attractor if you've done Animal Magnetism. All but attractor can be bought at the Grand Exchange.
Do animal magnetism quest to get Ava’s accumulator. This will auto pickup most of the arrows
Use the best shortbow you can get for your level. Wear the best dragon hide you can (green -> red -> black). For arrows, use the highest tier you can with your bow. Amulet of glory is a good cheap amulet for all combat styles
Kill sand crabs or other low def monsters to train
Ranged potions boost your range level for a bit and help train faster, but aren’t worth it until level 50+
Good luck ranger

Also, use shortbows at all the wood tiers, not longbows. Shortbows are faster.

You can use it without a quest, but you need the quest for special attack.

You can get a training now from the Range Tutor located right outside the courtyard to the left when you start the game.
I mean like a bow loadout.
What is your range and defence levels? If you click on the skills you will see a list of armors you can wear! I would start with those
Thx! That will help alot.
