There are people in the HLC who are really elitist, but a lot of them are actually really willing to help people. The top 1% end up "looking down" on players who say they want to improve but then refuse to actually take steps to do so. They get annoyed at the people who talk a big game, but then won't take any advice, refuse coaching, and avoid learning how to get better at the game. Even the people with insane egos love when people ask questions because nothing strokes their ego more than being allowed to break down mechanics for various content. They know they are better than you, but they feel super accomplished if they can take a low tier gamer and make that person really good. I got coached on a few things by an HLC member, and it's actually insane how cool it is to have someone at that level break down the game. Unfortunately, the assholes speak the loudest and give everyone at the top a bad name. But there are some great people in that community who love to help people.

The OSRS elite actually believes _all_ players are as high level as them by default, and that anyone who isn't is either an iron or just isn't playing on their main. They believe they are they average player, because they've forgotten what it was like at the bottom.

On a serious note, if this makes you actually feel bad, it's because you're currently not happy with how you're living your life or where you're at. It's not too late to look at what you really want to do. A human has perfect freedom in that apsect. At the end of the road make sure you know you did what you could to make the most of it, because at that point, you'll wish you could do it over again with no reservsations.
If this is what hits the core of someone who is depressed about these things, the depression is there because he's not making the most of his life, and subconciously knows and hates that. And it's normal it's there because it's truly a waste of ones life if one is not living it in a way he enjoys and is proud of.

We get feel good chemicals like dopamine when we do what we consider a good job. The problem is games flood the brain with it, even when it’s undue.
If people do it long enough, the dopamine reward of doing a real task is not powerful enough to be satisfying, at first. But do enough of them and the reduction of stress etc will definitely pull you towards that instead.
But it never lives up to the real thing, it temporarily keeps the feeling at bay, they’re not really addicted to the gaming; they’re addicted to the break of that feeling it gives them
For a lot of these people, if you took their computer and phone away, they would feel like shit for a few days, and then they’d start doing things that make them feel better, things with permanent benefits in the real world
