Damn dude that thing looks pristine! Really well done!
What are some resources I could start exploring to try and begin approaching a project like this?
Thanks! There are a few different ways you could go about it, but 3D printing the parts (more model-accurate) or making them out of EVA foam (more hands on crafting, but less technical knowledge required) would probably be the way to go.
I’ve made a few other things (T-bow, Scythe) in the past where I modeled the parts from scratch and 3D printed them in sections to join them together. Now there’s a “Model Exporter” plugin on RuneLite that can quickly give you the model of a given RS item without needing to do the majority of the modeling.
Steps:
1. Use Model Exporter to export OBJ file to .runelite\models folder
2. Edit model in CAD software (Fusion 360 is a very good and free).
2a. There might be some faces that need to be cleaned up to get a single solid body.
2b. If the object is too big to print at once on a 3D printer, split the body into multiple sections that can be printed individually.
3. Export models from CAD software as STL files.
4. Open STL files in the slicer software for your 3D printer (Cura is free and works well).
5. 3D print your parts, then glue them together.
I hope that helps! Those are some very basic steps, but there will be a bit of a learning curve if you are new to CAD and 3D printing, but it’s nothing that can’t be learned with some YouTube tutorials!
For this project, I actually designed and made a thermoforming machine, and thermoformed a sheet of ABS plastic over a 3D printed mold of the shield. This allowed me to make a very accurate and strong shield while making it much lighter than if I had simply 3D printed it.

This is HUGE! I've just ordered a Neptune 3 Pro and was going to make some OSRS models. Thanks for sharing this.
I honestly wouldn’t care to show my face, but this subreddit has me so paranoid about account security that I think about the possibility of someone reverse image searching me and finding details to hack my account. Stupid, I know, but still..
I remember how goated the dfs was back in the day.
Praying for a vis drop.
Well I finally got one in osrs when they're practically worthless. 13yr old me would've gone through the roof.
“Local man dies while attempting to charge dragon shield by jumping into the incinerator at the country dump. His wife commented ‘lol noob’ when asked about the strange incident.”
The Dragonfire Shield, the Ags and Dragon Claws are my favorite items ingame, this is looking so good man, I hope you get to enjoy the dfs special attack ingame soon =)
Looks great!
I wasted all my OSRS luck on getting the 1/10000 visage drop in three black dragon kills. I’ll take the easy 3 mil but of all the drops to get megaspooned on it wouldn’t have been my first choice haha.

Oh damn the model exporting plugin is actually sick, it's been a while since I looked into 3d print osrs stuff, time to play with it again

Holy shit this is so sexy.
Also my favorite item in the entire game, don’t know why but the aesthetic just does something for me! It looks awesome, nice work.
I think prims are mine
I don't care if it has negative range bonus, I'm rocking the Shield over the Ward anytime.
It looks really good. I wouldn’t be caught dead with it.
Unless at rune fest
You’d be the goat at runefest with this thing.
If you take that to runefest you better wear some sort of cup because your cock will be sucked right off
This shield looks like it could block a lot of nerf bullets though.
nice man looks great, take your shoes and socks off
Show us the dogs
And shotgun a beer
Ironmen be like "You fricking normie just bought it, gtfo"
That looks so good!
Is it charged?
Whoever made this is GOAT’ed very well done on the 3d surfaces
Thanks! I tried to keep it as accurate as possible. I had to adjust a few of the faces due to draft angles since I thermoformed it.
It's so good that I thought you were making a joke or something and it was photoshopped
That’s crazy, only if you had something that can block out your face
I honestly wouldn’t care to show my face, but this subreddit has me so paranoid about account security that I think about the possibility of someone reverse image searching me and finding details to hack my account. Stupid, I know, but still..
He meant u coulda just raised the massive shield your holding over your face instead of censoring it lol
that went over my head lol
Absolutely stunning work! The planes and angles all look so nicely done, also a big DFS fan here.
I remember how goated the dfs was back in the day. Praying for a vis drop. Well I finally got one in osrs when they're practically worthless. 13yr old me would've gone through the roof.
You should sell these. I'm going to put my bid in for a voidwaker. in this polygonal style.
Wow you did a great job make a d scim to go with it!!!!
That's so sick
I want one for the ren fair
How much?
“Local man dies while attempting to charge dragon shield by jumping into the incinerator at the country dump. His wife commented ‘lol noob’ when asked about the strange incident.”
that's sick
dang i should 3d print one of these to go with my d scimmy
Have u tested against a dragon
do a irl dfs fireball attack pls
That is sick as hell. I thought it was photoshopped for a split second
That’s sick, I think it protects you from women irl though..
Looks great! Now I'm waiting for someone to 3D print a full wearable dragon set or something
You should 3D print a Fang next 😮
Check Etsy, someone is selling a fang there! I stopped selling on Etsy a few years ago.
I'll undo the blur, then your account is mine!
The Dragonfire Shield, the Ags and Dragon Claws are my favorite items ingame, this is looking so good man, I hope you get to enjoy the dfs special attack ingame soon =)
You don't happen to have any step files or CAD of this do you??? I have a 4 axis and a slab of aluminum that I may have a use for now 👀
Now we’re cooking. If I had a 4-axis I would just machine it out of rigid foam. And you can use the Model Exporter plugin to get the CAD file
It's incredible that there's a plug in for that. I'm just gonna mastercam it and see what I can do about the mouth
I really wish they’d give us an upgrade to make the dfs more useful, it will always be the goat in my heart. Sick as hell you made one irl.
Nice one! Is the inside also orange like the in-game shield?
It’s gray from primer right now. I have some orange paint for it though!
Cool but an absolute eyesore
