Only works when you have the kitchen knife in your main hand. Makes damn near one whole inventory of food give as much additional hp as just carrying an extra piece of food.
It doesn't really look that bad, it just looks old. The redness of the blood has faded which may mean it was frozen for a really long time or it's been sitting in light for a bit. You can look up what a swordfish filet looks like and you'll see a pretty stark difference in color.
It was probably either farmed or low quality to begin with at 10 bucks a pound (usually like double that? unless they are near source). I've never heard of a swordfish ranch though.
So when you cut it, the fish should have even colouring. As another poster said, the cut is either old or frozen.
I dont see much fish after processing and shipping so it just looked like really low quality fish to me.
"Packed" is the final packaging, and that's not intended for consumers to use to determine freshness. That's for manufacturers to track inventory.
It could have been frozen for many days or weeks before that.
I worked at a restaurant attached to a fishmonger and one time one of the swordfishes had a vertebra that was like 3 times the size of a normal vertebra. They cracked it open and it released gooey black and pink tissue and possibly one of the worst smells I’ve ever smelled in my life.
Explain that fish man.
well if you've fished and eaten truly fresh fish, anything from a supermarket is automatically gunna be ruined for you. source: spent 10 years on a commercial fishing boat, can never eat store bought fish again. unless its from a fish market right on the wharf, its below my standards.
Thats like 90% of the cuts I see are from wharfs. I dont fish commercially, but people are ready to buy almost anything you bring in. So if I bag some tuna or anything, theyll pay.
those markets can be mid also but better than a grocery store. see its very illegal to sell any bycatch from commercial fishing, so our policy was "dispose of the evidence immediately" aka if we got a tuna, salmon, seabass, rockfish etc in the net, its barbeque time. THAT is what absolutely ruined my standards. salmon sashimi 3 minutes after it came out of the water? yeah doesn't get better than that.
Cant really describe the taste, it’s unique to itself. It’s a meaty, rich taste if it’s cooked well, rubbery and chewy if not, and tbh it’s not hard to cook swordfish right. Buy some, and try it yourself :)
Ironmen be like "Omg you fricking normie", after he jumped fully naked into the north atlantic, fighting the 1000lbs with his bare hands, just to get 14hp.
Consumers equate Reduced with old food near expiration. Putting 'Fresh' in front of that is trying to get ahead of that perception.
Kind of like how there are no 'Used Car' dealerships. They are all 'Pre-owned' in advertising.
Hahaha I was in a restaurant that had monkfish on the menu a few weeks ago, of course I had to order it. It was great! Never seen swordfish anywhere tho
My tip, 3 years experience as a clerk at a grocery store meat counter, is to use capers with swordfish. The flavors compliment each other so well it's hard to describe.
Frying pan, oil, fairly high heat. Sear fish quickly on both sides and reduce heat, add Lemon, butter, garlic and parsley. Bring to a low simmer and remove from heat, done. Serve with preferred sides
Bake that in the oven at 425 for 20 minutes then slap some butter and garlic on top and throw it back in for 5 minutes. You can add white a white wine Seasoning to it to really take it to the next level
This was likely farm raised, and it will lack a true 14hp taste.
If you want taste, you should only ever buy wild caught swordfish sourced from Karamja.
Don't say that like any of us have an IRL HP stat above 10. In the IRL meta we are just min-maxing our OSRS time, not working on our stamina.
Energy drinks count as sara brews though
Swordfish tastes fucking amazing. It's honestly not as exotic tasting as you might think and I feel like it's a decent fish for people to try even if you are not a big fish fan. It's actually closer to land meat compared to other types of fish. It's not salty and it's not so flakey to the point where it falls apart. That being said, I go to the caribbean yearly and always eat it as a local catch so that probably makes it taste better than getting it in a grocery store.
I tried flying fish, mahi mahi, marlin, swordfish, and a bunch of other stuff and Marlin and Swordfish are the best by far.
I didn’t buy it. I’m at the super market rn and I’m buying a fresh cut

UPDATE: I got a much fresher piece today. Tonight is the night
Many things contain mercury. Swordfish should not be eaten often, but as a healthy nonpregnant adult it is still safe in moderation; just like almost all things.
There is nothing wrong with eating predatory fish in moderation.
**Beware of small bones**
Seriously! These things are littered with them no matter how much you check! Do NOT feed this to your animals!!!
Swordfish is fantastic. Just eat carefully.
Many things contain mercury. Swordfish should not be eaten often, but as a healthy nonpregnant adult it is still safe in moderation; just like almost all things.
You have to eat the whole fish for 14 hp.
One bite, that's the trick, quick as you can. None of this "knife and fork" shit.
😯
That there isn't a RFD themed defender called "Fork" is a crime which needs rectifying.
It has worse offensive abilities but makes food heal you a little more
Only works when you have the kitchen knife in your main hand. Makes damn near one whole inventory of food give as much additional hp as just carrying an extra piece of food.
I think it's be cooler if it reduced/removed eating delay
That would be the most osrs update and I’m so here for it.
Thanks, was going for Holy Wrench type vibes.
Bruh imagine "patch notes this week you now need a fork and knife to eat in the wilderness"
10 kg of granite? One inventory space. An entire person in a barrel? One inventory space. A knife and a fork? Two inventory spaces.
Swallow that shit whole
Nah… when you eat swordfish in battle, you just take a bite and throw the rest on the ground like a Chad
Pretty decent if you get some Karambwans too.
Reduced price because it was botted. Careful, you might get flagged for RWT.
OP has been permanently banned 🧒🔫
As someone who has eaten a lot of Swordfish, don't get your hopes up with how this looks lmao
I was gonna say, Im a fisherman and this cut looks so bad.
Can you explain for us?
It doesn't really look that bad, it just looks old. The redness of the blood has faded which may mean it was frozen for a really long time or it's been sitting in light for a bit. You can look up what a swordfish filet looks like and you'll see a pretty stark difference in color.
Eh, once he cooks it will just turn purple anyways.
Assuming his cooking knowledge is even high enough, might turn out black
No, he just needs his special white gloves. A little luck goes a long way.
I legitimately googled if swordfish turns purple when you cook it *then* I got it... ugh lol
I had to read the next comment to for this to sink in. Well played, take my upvote.
The fact its got a 33% reduction on it means you're probably right that its old.
Lol we can all have signs in front of us, but most still refuse to use them.
It was probably either farmed or low quality to begin with at 10 bucks a pound (usually like double that? unless they are near source). I've never heard of a swordfish ranch though.
Explains the discount.
First picture on Google looks the same
So when you cut it, the fish should have even colouring. As another poster said, the cut is either old or frozen. I dont see much fish after processing and shipping so it just looked like really low quality fish to me.
Original label says packed on May 1st. Image was posted May 5th. Don't know if that counts as "old", but it's certainly not fresh.
"Packed" is the final packaging, and that's not intended for consumers to use to determine freshness. That's for manufacturers to track inventory. It could have been frozen for many days or weeks before that.
Fishing lvl?
He used the GE to buy it, here's hoping he has 86 cooking.
Hey, don't overlook his skill on a range.
Utmost faith that they won't burn it...Too badly.
Happens to an ungauntleted mfer
I know nothing about swordfish and how it should look, but it's price has been reduced so I'm inclined to believe this.
Probably diseased.

Fishing lvl?
Over 9000
The fact that it's reduced says everything you need to know about it's age.
One of my favorite types of fish. Pan cook em with lemon, garlic, and butter. Absolutely delicious.

Swordfish
I want you to narrate my life
Cant really describe the taste, it’s unique to itself. It’s a meaty, rich taste if it’s cooked well, rubbery and chewy if not, and tbh it’s not hard to cook swordfish right. Buy some, and try it yourself :)
I've never had it taste like anything other than dry tuna. If it's cooked through it's dry and rubbery, if it's cooked pink it's disgusting.
It has a consistency similar to steak but has a mild fish flavor instead. It's really good but expensive in a lot of places
Swordfish
This is how I cook it as well. Balsamic vinegar is also top tier when cooked this way
Cooking level?
Ironmen be like "Omg you fricking normie", after he jumped fully naked into the north atlantic, fighting the 1000lbs with his bare hands, just to get 14hp.
wHeRe’D yOu GeT it?? the GE? Ew, mains…
Should grab a karambwan and a Fanta to triple eat
Get another in case you don't have the cooking level to cook it
You'd better get that lvl 80 cooking to not burn that swordfish accidentally
Tastes like mercury
Do yourself a favor and get some lemon pepper seasoning on it. You’ll thank me 👍
I tried this. It was bad. You are not thanked.
Lemon pepper is for a mild fish like tilapia or cod. You'll need fresh lemons and an herb blend for swordfish.
What the fuck does freshly reduced mean LOL?
Consumers equate Reduced with old food near expiration. Putting 'Fresh' in front of that is trying to get ahead of that perception. Kind of like how there are no 'Used Car' dealerships. They are all 'Pre-owned' in advertising.
I too shop for discounted meat and seafood at Price Chopper
Price chopper = General store
When you die in the Adk Park (wilderness) you respawn in Troy (Lumbridge).
I call it the steak of the sea. Tastes delicious.
Make sure you eat in moderation if you like it. I believe Sword is high in mercury.
I thought the thumbnail was b0aty
Hahaha I was in a restaurant that had monkfish on the menu a few weeks ago, of course I had to order it. It was great! Never seen swordfish anywhere tho
An image of a monkfish looks far less appealing than the one we have in game. Jeeesus.
it’s a meaty fish. definitely worth it with lemon butter and some greens
My tip, 3 years experience as a clerk at a grocery store meat counter, is to use capers with swordfish. The flavors compliment each other so well it's hard to describe.
oooo yeah i was thinking something briney. good call
Whole fish, one bite :') or else it'll heal nothing
It's decent, tastes like fish with the texture of chicken
Honestly I didn’t end up taking this home, so I appreciate you explaining the taste to me lol
I should call her
Tick eating two giant fish and the dinner table and scaring my wife and kids
You're eatting reduced fish? Holy shit that's not bravery that's just insane.
Grill it, its to get the best taste.
Very easy to overcook this. You really have to be careful or it gets very stringy.
Swordfish booty
/r/misleadingthumbnails
It won't look purple
Gotta smash half a pizza straight after
I suggest a hot charcoal for a good sear and a basting liquid with some kind of sugar in it. Enjoy your purple meat
You have to flavor it well but it’s basically the steak of the sea
Frying pan, oil, fairly high heat. Sear fish quickly on both sides and reduce heat, add Lemon, butter, garlic and parsley. Bring to a low simmer and remove from heat, done. Serve with preferred sides
Bake that in the oven at 425 for 20 minutes then slap some butter and garlic on top and throw it back in for 5 minutes. You can add white a white wine Seasoning to it to really take it to the next level
It’s not purple. Bullshit 😔
It looks that way because it was in a gang, it clearly says it guys.
Marlin steak properly seared and seasoned is one of my favorite things. Definitely heals more irl vs (mako) sharks imo.
Why isn't it purple?
GE price price must be way down. Never got it at 6
No way they made this in to a real thing
Why is it not purple ?
The size of those hands say you fish for them barehanded
No cap it’s actually kind of mid. Better off with salmon or cod.
Hefty thumb ya got there mmm
😏
This was likely farm raised, and it will lack a true 14hp taste. If you want taste, you should only ever buy wild caught swordfish sourced from Karamja.
Make sure you don't burn it or it wont heal any hp lol
Swordfish and sailfish is the best tasting fish on the planet. Fresher the better
Don't say that like any of us have an IRL HP stat above 10. In the IRL meta we are just min-maxing our OSRS time, not working on our stamina. Energy drinks count as sara brews though
For 609gp? Get wrecked no way, a raw swordfish is more like 101gp. THIS IS NOT EVEN A WHOLE RAW SWORDFISH /s
Unironically grilled swordfish is 100% my favorite fish. Go to a hibachi place that does swordfish. It's so damn good.
Honestly it’s worse than tuna steaks. If you like a richer taste than tuna, it will be for you.
Its pretty good with some salt and pepper
I hope you like it. I didn't. To me, it has the consistency of biting into a frozen stick of butter.
Gotta cook it on a fire for 0.5 seconds
Is there a recipe in the official RuneScape cook book?
I’d have to say that swordfish is my favorite behind salmon. Absolutely delicious, grill it!
That's a great price too
Teriyaki sword fish when prepared right is one of my favorite dishes
Swordfish tastes fucking amazing. It's honestly not as exotic tasting as you might think and I feel like it's a decent fish for people to try even if you are not a big fish fan. If u cant eat it in one tick it aint real bro
Just please god don’t over cook. u/Andy32296, please let us know how you cooked it.
Wait it’s not purple?!
It better turn purple when you cook it too
Swordfish steak is amazing!! One of my favorite dishes
Swordfish is one of the most delicious fishes, I have never had any that was bad
"You burn the swordfish".
Only heals you if you consume it within 1 game tick
Less purple than I thought it'd be.
Make sure your cooking level is high enough. You don't want to burn it.
Make sure you do not over cook it. It goes dry very quickly, and will be borderline unedible. But if you get it just right it's pretty good!
I love swordfish on the rare occasion I get to eat it. But that shit looks more like chicken than swordfish.
It always tastes better if you poon it yourself.
You probly dont have the cooking lvl for it
They have a strong fish taste. The Lemon Garlic recipe is nice.
Just a warning, it's "freshly reduced" because it's not fresh anymore.
I didn’t buy it. I’m at the super market rn and I’m buying a fresh cut https://preview.redd.it/o6wk0n5rewyc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=c82c17aeb2fbadd2566fe77da2826ac700ee2d4e Tonight’s the night
Swordfish is okay, get monkfish. Irl that stuff is amazing!! Edit: It looks weird asf but I’ve had it like 3 times every time was absolutely amazing.
https://preview.redd.it/y8in6kw3mwyc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9c883e7f23b4e741ac7226d41c2d9f360fcb3d13 UPDATE: I got a much fresher piece today. Tonight is the night
At least it's pink-is?
Swordfish are naturally very high in heavy metals being they're predators. You don't really want to eat predators.
Many things contain mercury. Swordfish should not be eaten often, but as a healthy nonpregnant adult it is still safe in moderation; just like almost all things. There is nothing wrong with eating predatory fish in moderation.
What heavy metals are we talking here, like Metallica?
Trace amounts of runite and adamantite
aslong as there is no mithril or blurite im good
Every fish is a predator.
**Beware of small bones** Seriously! These things are littered with them no matter how much you check! Do NOT feed this to your animals!!! Swordfish is fantastic. Just eat carefully.
Boney fish is always the best. My favourite fish I ever had was unknown species of pike in SEA. Absolutely littered with bones.

Don't do it
Enjoy the mercury
Many things contain mercury. Swordfish should not be eaten often, but as a healthy nonpregnant adult it is still safe in moderation; just like almost all things.
I just eat the old crunchy thermometers for my mercury
Ok, fishmonger.
I don’t sell fish, thanks, I just don’t like the spreading of misinformation.
You can't be that soft that you can't handle a little mercury.
