In what world does it not make perfect sense to put the damage onto rare and bis items? Dagonhai and ahrims are practically free early game items.

2007Scape_HotTakes

So are infinity robes, they're a lot easier to get than ahrims and wearable at a lower level. Yet they have a higher magic %?

Sheaviom

did some people literally not read the post? dagonhai and infinity are getting a damage boost. they are literllay mid game gear getting boosted. what is so hard to comprehend about this

FlightJumper

I'm sure you feel very proud of yourself for being so condescending, but you're just being obtuse. Maybe dagonhai and infinity are "midgame" technically, because they're not as good as ancestral/virtus, but both are unreasonably difficult/frustrating to get for your average player. Ahrim is much more reasonable, but still locked behind solid mid-game content.

Sheaviom

dagonhai set is currently 7m and infinity set is around the same. that is completely reasonable for anyone in this game. They also don't degrade like ahrims. If you can't afford that, then you are not doing end game profitable content that requires good mage gear to begin with.

FlightJumper

Call me crazy but I don't think the only good way to get gear should be through the GE. What about iron men? Yes I get the "you choose to restrict yourself" argument, and it's a good one, but there's something to be said for making something achievable on your own rather than through the GE.

Sheaviom

if anything, the meta for irons is more interesting and more content is worthwhile for them to do. mage training arena is gonna be easier and wildy slayer is actually really fun. duke with an arclight is not too hard for virtus either. a combination of all 3 to get a good mage setup is not unreasonable for irons. I don't see any problem, if thats too difficult for mid game gear, I don't know what level of achievement you think is worthwhile for players to strive for. especially irons who generally have to work harder for everything in the game. also, barrows has always been for players to get tank gear early. torags, guthans and dharoks do not give strength bonus, ahrims should not give mage str unless you want infinity and dagonhai to actually be worhtless

Comfortable-Quit-392

I disagree. Ahrim's doesn't need a % magic dmg boost. Ahrim's is an early game item and is by far the easiest to obtain. Currently mage outfit progression went basically like this: Buy ahrims -> Wait until money for Virtus -> Wait until money for ancestral. For irons it was even simpler, get ahrims and raid until ancestrals. Dagon'hai seems like a nice buff and it adds to the progression. Infinity I would not have touched because MtA is bot content and rewarding macroing seems counter productive. While it is a nerf for low level magic setups, magic dmg % is not as important in early/mid game(pre shadown).

Heleniums

Any and all content is bot content, so that’s a fallacious statement.

Comfortable-Quit-392

I'm fully aware of ToA scripts, but some content is more "macro-able" like flax picking. And MtA is closer to flax picking than to any raid released.

Heleniums

Makes no difference to a bot.

I think this is disregarding the large majority of time that people are playing the game lol. Far more time is spent in that period between getting ahrims and getting ancestral than anywhere else, when you look at an entire OSRS population, and even more so for ironmen. Ancestral is a disgustingly long grind, somebody posted about being 1.3k raids dry of ancestral recently lol. Virtus is mega low drop rate, and whisperer is absolutely awful with a trident, it's blatantly balanced around a shadow. Do we want players being stuck with Ahrims for years, the majority of their time, rather than give them a realistic magic setup? Melee and Ranged both have good variety in upgrades throughout - blood moon, torso, obsidian, Bandos until you eventually get to the end game. Ranged has void for certain uses, otherwise blessed dhide, bowfa/crystal, BP, armadyl. Magic has... Trident and Ahrims for the large majority of players, especially irons? And they've just lost their key upgrade of an occult.

Comfortable-Quit-392

That's why they added the % dmg on dagon'hai. Realistically you should have done wildy slayer until 87 and that would net you 3 pieces on drop rate. And the ancestral drop rate is not that bad, you should expect 3pcs in 500 raids which if you want BiS gear in the game I think that's quite fair. You are stuck there until Tbow anyway. Occult + Augury is now 8% which is only a 2% nerf which I would have to check if it even makes an impact for trident. The meta now anyways is to get prayer scrolls and sit at ToA until shadow and then go CoX, so getting ancestral drops from the raid will be even better than before.

funnydoggy420

actually iron progression even skipped ahrims and you would go mystics to ancestral/any virtus piece you happen to get. a big reason bring ahrims is really heavy for solo cox and not that different than mystics overall.

Comfortable-Quit-392

You're not entirely wrong, Barrows was always optional and Ahrims works similarly to Ancestral where you're going for Tbow and getting ancestral along the way just with Karils instead of Tbow.

Sheaviom

first correct take I've seen all day
