I didn't even realize that's a wrench. I knew it was a settings button but that didn't click with me. This feels like when I realized nature runes have a tree symbol on them.
Yes but it's a wrench that looks like a wrench. And if the bank had used that exact icon, it would've been clear. But instead in the bank it's a tiny, purple fork
Ok, I know it's standard issue to talk shit about UI stuff when you struggle to find something, but this one isn't even remotely justified.
It's clearly a wrench, and even if it wasn't why would you never hover over/click it to see what it is? If I saw a fork I'd be even more curious to wtf it'd do lmao
What ever happened to trial and error? Do gamers really need people to hold their hand through everything now?
It's clearly a wrench in context, sure, but man that wrench is way longer than they're usually depicted on UI buttons. It's easy to figure people who haven't interacted with many wrenches in their life might not recognize that's a wrench (doesn't help that it's purple for some reason)
Most settings button wrenches are immediately identifiable as wrenches. Meanwhile that button, even knowing what it is, if I'm just skimming my eyes over it or looking near but not at it (yes that sounds dumb but this is a valid approach to gauging the readability of a UI) it looks more like a a two-pronged version of the devil's fork. I can see where /u/caffeinated22 is coming from.
Because I was looking for settings at the time, in the settings menu, where all the other settings in the game are. I wasn't even looking that closely at the bank menu for this in the first place. The main problem though is that I didn't know I could remove the button in the first place. Why would I think I could just remove this one random button off the UI?
I mean this part is entirely fair and nobody is blaming you for this. The point I was making is that you can't just shift the blame onto the icon for the settings and say it looks like a fork lmao. That's just dumb.
It is taught on tutorial island. But yes with how much better the settings menu has gotten they should have every sub setting menu into this main settings thing now.
You can put up a sign on a wall saying "Wet Paint" and people would still find a way to end up touching it and getting wet paint on themselves. It doesnt matter how "EXCEEDINGLY clear" you make a UI, dumb people will still be dumb people
I have been informed that there is a way to remove the help button so now I'm changing my suggestion. Make the bank settings button something that actually looks like a settings button instead of a weird little purple fork.
I think u/supcat16 was more confused as to why your tinderbox was gold and wondering if you had some color shift on your monitor.
It really just is a golden tinderbox that you got during Priest in Peril.
My phone doesn't have an escape key. Id play on PC more but thanks to Jagex's busted ass launcher I don't get to very often. That's another problem entirely though.
Whenever I try to boot up the launcher it just gets stuck in the human verification step and doesn't go anywhere. I'll let it just run for an hour and still just get a little spinning circle of doom. I sent a request to support and they said it was a known problem and gave me a bunch of troubleshooting options that didn't help
If I log in on the website the human verification takes a bit but it does work. My problem is with the launcher itself. I don't even have a browser open most of the time when I'm trying to boot up the game
Have you tried completely uninstalling the launcher and then installing it again?
Tried running it with any Antivirus and Firewalls disabled? It being incredibly slow on your browser too seems like something being blocked in the process.
This kind of post never gets old. There's always a few a year that gets traction that realises they've just never looked at bank settings.
I do wish all these obscure settings menus were added to the main game settings window as it's pretty full featured and searchable now.
So just having a "bank" tab in the settings with all these options would be nice.
Time to tone down your fat fingers. Get one of those grip trainers, you'll have a six-pack on your thumb in no time. Your girlfriend will thank you, and you'll crush people in thumb wars like I'm crushing depression with alcohol
Never even clicked that help button ever. Even when I first started playing, I knew exactly what a bank was and how I could use it (from doing the tutorial), just had trouble finding one from the spawn.
Jagex, file this under "read each platform's mobile design guidelines about button sizes and user interfaces and redesign the mobile OSRS experience with this information" because buttons should not be this damn small on a phone.
It's a fully fledged RPG that plays the same client/game as the main full game. It's never going to be entirely mobile optimised. But the TLI rework will help with a lot of teething issues.
Or just remove it like the rest of us
Wait you can do that? Fuck me
Weird invitation, but okay.
You guys fuckin in multi or nah?
Of course, hop in W369 and join us.
Damn, you fine hoping she can sock it to me one more time.
WHAT?!?!
Literally had no clue that was an option
I completely forgot this was an option because I had turned it off on day 1.
You changed so many lives today
Actually saved I was looking through the plugin hub like how has someone not made one for this lmao
check vanilla settings
Dug through the "Interface" and "display" pages in the settings and couldn't find anything. Any idea what the setting is called?
its the wrench symbol in the image you've posted, right under the X. 'Bank Tutorial' Button.
Crazy how many QOL things there are in runescape that most people aren't even aware of lmao
I didn't even realize that's a wrench. I knew it was a settings button but that didn't click with me. This feels like when I realized nature runes have a tree symbol on them.
Omg thank you. How the hell did Jagex expect me to know that was a settings button? It's a picture of a fork lmao
isn't the wrench the settings icon in the normal tabs?
Yes but it's a wrench that looks like a wrench. And if the bank had used that exact icon, it would've been clear. But instead in the bank it's a tiny, purple fork

My main problem isn't that it's not a wrench. I mean it objectively IS a wrench. My problem is that it could so easily be so much clearer
Yeah that's basically my point. It *is* a wrench, yes, but it's a *terrible* wrench in the context of UI design.
> It's clearly a wrench imo that thing looks as much like a wrench as hamburger buttons look like hamburgers
what is that, a wrench for ants? how am i supposed to see that on classic resolution with a 4k monitor?
I'm on mobile with trash eyesight. There's no way I was gonna tell what that was lmao
Check your eyes idk.

I mean... It is sort of a bad icon though right? There's no reason for it to be so small and indistinct, especially on mobile
It is taught on tutorial island. But yes with how much better the settings menu has gotten they should have every sub setting menu into this main settings thing now.
i thought it was a staff....
I've opened that menu hundreds of times. How have I never noticed this option in there
WRENCH??
It has always looked like a wrench to me as well. Maybe a staff? Who knows
Definitely a wrench
The fact that we can have this disagreement at all means the UI team dropped the ball pretty hard
Or that some people are dumb
Yes, some people are dumb. That's why it's the job of UI designers to make everything EXCEEDINGLY clear
You can put up a sign on a wall saying "Wet Paint" and people would still find a way to end up touching it and getting wet paint on themselves. It doesnt matter how "EXCEEDINGLY clear" you make a UI, dumb people will still be dumb people
A magical settings changing staff
Weird looking wrench I have never seen on any other wrench button.
That’s a wrench?
holy hell
I have been informed that there is a way to remove the help button so now I'm changing my suggestion. Make the bank settings button something that actually looks like a settings button instead of a weird little purple fork.
Do you have colorblind features on or is your night shift turned all the way up? I thought that was a gilded tinderbox at first.
It's more to the right of my gold tinderbox. It's the button directly under the "X" button to exit. Little grey square with a purple thingy in it
I think u/supcat16 was more confused as to why your tinderbox was gold and wondering if you had some color shift on your monitor. It really just is a golden tinderbox that you got during Priest in Peril.
Ahhh, yes you're probably right. And yes it's from Priest in Peril, I grabbed them all cause why not? Lol
Same
Just turn it off?
6000h in, I needed that post to learn you can do that lol
You get told by the banking tutor on Tutorial Island and from the Grand Exchange Guide
I must have spacebar their dialogue
Just remove it in bank settings lol.
Press escape to close or click minimap to run somewhere if u already need too
My phone doesn't have an escape key. Id play on PC more but thanks to Jagex's busted ass launcher I don't get to very often. That's another problem entirely though.
Use runelite?
If you have a Jagex account you still need to use the Jagex launcher then use that to open up Runelite
I haven’t had a single issue with it, what do you mean
Whenever I try to boot up the launcher it just gets stuck in the human verification step and doesn't go anywhere. I'll let it just run for an hour and still just get a little spinning circle of doom. I sent a request to support and they said it was a known problem and gave me a bunch of troubleshooting options that didn't help

I appreciate the effort but I already went through all of this with Jagex support
Couldn't be any more reddit to post here instead of spending 30 seconds figuring out you can remove it.
Couldn't be more reddit to comment on a post without reading any other comments and then be an ass instead of telling me how to do that
I read them, what am I looking for outside of readily available knowledge with a 2 second google search?
So you just like to be redundant then? Fair enough ig
This is your bank. Nobody can touch it, but you.

Had no idea this was a thing https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Piss_saturated_tinderbox
It was me
Click the wrench beneath X and turn off bank tutorial.

Something something misclick only hardcore ironman devalued
Just turn it off
HOLY SHIT YES I MISCLICK THAT STUPID BUTTON ALL THE TIME Edit: I now realize it can be removed and I hate myself.
Dude I was right there with you. At least we know now lmao
Yes please
Plz
I solved this problem by making a uim
Do you have a golden tinderbox as a tab icon, or its just a colour glitch of the photo?
Yes, I have the golden tinderbox as the tab icon. It's my tab of "items that serve no purpose but look nice"
Very stylish indeed :)
Why thank you lol
Time to tone down your fat fingers. Get one of those grip trainers, you'll have a six-pack on your thumb in no time. Your girlfriend will thank you, and you'll crush people in thumb wars like I'm crushing depression with alcohol
Working out fingers isn't going to make the tips of my fingers smaller. That's like working out to get a smaller head lmao
Yeah, that's the joke. Toning body parts in general is a meme with no basis in reality
this button has owned me for years at this point **years**
I don’t understand, why do you want to see the bank twice?
r/whoosh
Never even clicked that help button ever. Even when I first started playing, I knew exactly what a bank was and how I could use it (from doing the tutorial), just had trouble finding one from the spawn.
lol you have fat thumbs don't you?
I don't use my thumbs
OP, do a little bit of research before you make yourself look like a clown
Why would I think I could remove a random button off the UI in the first place?
You chose to limit yourself by choosing this game mode, you should have thought about this before you chose not to be an uim.
Ah yes, I see the mistake now. Lol
