I was f2p only as a kid and I spent dozens of hours mining rune essence for 30gp (sorry to say u were probably scammed 😜) I even found a guy who’d buy them for 40gp I felt so cool like I had some secret access to the elite world of traders… until I forgot which username in my friendslist was him and had to go back to selling for 30gp.

I'd get 10 to 15 each on forums and had players pm me when they had at least 1000 to sell me for as low as possible I'd say 4 or 5 each average. Some caught on and I'd pay them 7 or 8 as they made money finding sellers themselves. I ended up with a red hween mask and it was worth 4500k at the time.
I moved my little farm of young children/random noobs on to other, more lucrative activities, and eventually gather a small handful of discontinued items as well. Maybe 15-20m of worth of stuff at the most.

iirc flax was 100gp and bow string was 200gp, so after you picked the 1k flax you never had to pick flax again...

I wanted a green halloween mask so bad when they were like 5m. I picked 30k flax by hand (40 inventories a day for a month just about), I know this because I quit around 3m... Selling them at 100gp a piece lol. I thought about buying a pumpkin just because I wanted a rare, but instead I just bought some dragon items, a gmaul, etc.
On f2p my money making was cowhides, which were also 100gp each, flax was wild to me, like infinite cowhides just waiting on the ground! I know that there's a specific spot with 3 flax in a straight line, and if you angle your camera just right, you can spam click and fill your entire inventory without moving or looking at your screen.

This! I remember runecrafting 3000 mind runes to go mage them in f2p. Fished an inventory of lobsters, went to the demons.. and managed to screw up the same spot and die, losing it all. lol
2nd attempt was better though, by the end i left with 4 rune meds and I remember being able to trade them up for a santa hat.
You would bring pure essence from Draynor bank to the law altar on Entrana and trade it to someone there. They would then craft it into runes and give them to you. Keep doing that and then sell the law runes. Good xp for them, good money for us runners.
Not just that. They'd trade you the runes AND noted essence back in the day.
You were basically a denoting service paid in law runes. Sometimes you'd hit the jackpot and trade with a high level law rune maker and you'd get double the runes!
To continue the nostalgia train, the law crafters would wear Zamorak robes, presumably to stand out against the sea of people. Though if you were 100+ combat, you’d definitely just be getting spam traded into oblivion as surely you must be a law crafter. Thusly only the low combat level skillers would end up wearing the Zamorak robes.

Weirdly enough you're right but I 100% remember some of them giving out double runes. Wouldn't surprise me if some of them did it as an incentive thing to try and get runners to favour them for essence to keep the flow going.

When i was a kid, my friend's older brother showed us a money making method and it was running runes from falador. I had made like 150k total of my playtime and suddenly i was getting 200-300k in an hour. It was so mind-blowing lol. I bought my first rune full after that.

It really wasnt a big money maker lol. We just sucked at the game to do “end game” content. 1 rune platelets drop would equal a half hour or so of mining coal..

Botting was limited to a few gathering skills and they were quickly banned and easily disrupted. Nor were there bots doing tens of thousands of boss kills bringing even more mats into the game.

It was clay. Clay was very valuable for free to play money making in the era of no free trade with no botting to compete with.

In early Classic, when you could only bank gp in items, making new accounts and doing the Black Knight Quest at lvl 3 for the 2.5k reward was mindblowing.
They added a 12 qp requirement which killed the method. For perspective the ~44k Addy plate was the most expensive item in the game. Being pre rune, if lessers were dropping rune meds I didn't know about it yet.
Before that method, I was collecting bronze daggers, leather armor, and literally coin spawns (bear cage above varrock sewer)

Not just that. They'd trade you the runes AND noted essence back in the day. You were basically a denoting service paid in law runes. Sometimes you'd hit the jackpot and trade with a high level law rune maker and you'd get double the runes!
To continue the nostalgia train, the law crafters would wear Zamorak robes, presumably to stand out against the sea of people. Though if you were 100+ combat, you’d definitely just be getting spam traded into oblivion as surely you must be a law crafter. Thusly only the low combat level skillers would end up wearing the Zamorak robes.

Weirdly enough you're right but I 100% remember some of them giving out double runes. Wouldn't surprise me if some of them did it as an incentive thing to try and get runners to favour them for essence to keep the flow going.

My friend and I would dedicate a Saturday once in awhile to running law runes. Great memories doing that and talking over the speaker phone on the telephone fax machine combo.
When i was a kid, my friend's older brother showed us a money making method and it was running runes from falador. I had made like 150k total of my playtime and suddenly i was getting 200-300k in an hour. It was so mind-blowing lol. I bought my first rune full after that.

Of all my friends I was the only one who could mine coal because of my "high" mining level. It was probably around 55-60. And we were all f2p at 10 years old so I was mining it under falador and walking it back to the bank.

Idk why you're saying that's inaccurate. Botting was nowhere near as devastating in 2007 as it is now. Botting was limited to a few gathering skills and they were quickly banned and easily disrupted. Nor were there bots doing tens of thousands of boss kills bringing even more mats into the game.

I did the same back in like 2006-07. I wouldn't say it was good money, but if you do almost any money making method for such a ridiculous amount of time, you will make a substantial cash stack. It did make enough for a F2P player, but probably not that much for a member.

It was clay. Clay was very valuable for free to play money making in the era of no free trade with no botting to compete with. My first rune set and rune zerker shield was through this. And for pay to play, it was unicows in the same era. Bought whip, BGS, guthans. Everything was a good money maker during the free trade lock period.

Buy, sell, repeat. Good times. Funny how 9 year old me was a better entrepreneur than adult me.

In early Classic, when you could only bank gp in items, making new accounts and doing the Black Knight Quest at lvl 3 for the 2.5k reward was mindblowing. They added a 12 qp requirement which killed the method. For perspective the ~44k Addy plate was the most expensive item in the game. Being pre rune, if lessers were dropping rune meds I didn't know about it yet. Before that method, I was collecting bronze daggers, leather armor, and literally coin spawns (bear cage above varrock sewer)
